SporkBot edit

Hi: I'm not sure about the utility of this edit. I left the whole template in place in case a now blank line would be needed in future; those "year" lines presumably refer to the SAT and ACT parameters, which are currently blank, and would be better left in case someone adds the scores, to remind them to also add the year. (For this school that is unlikely to happen.) Yngvadottir (talk) 05:28, 22 December 2014 (UTC) ... and again here, although this is a non-US school so I'm going to go ahead and remove both SAT and ACT lines. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:11, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

(tps) Yngvadottir, the fact that it removed the duplicate |year= is a very good thing. had these been left in the template, and someone tried to enter values, there would be confusion wondering why the values didn't appear in the infobox. if you have
{{Infobox school
| name = Some school
| ACT = 18
| year = 2001
| SAT = 1100
| year = 2011
| graduates = 1300
| year = 2013
}}
the only year information that appears is the last one. what we need, in this case, is to change the duplicate |year= to |ACT_year= |SAT_year= and |graduates_year=. see the documentation for Template:Infobox school where you will find that |year= is not a supported parameter. asking to have a bot clean up transclusions of {{infobox school}} is on my to-do list. Frietjes (talk) 19:13, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, although it puzzles me because I was the one who added the infobox to these schools, and so I guess the parameters have changed? In which case, why not just substitute the labeled date parameters rather than deleting? Or the other question would be, why did the infobox use to have unlabeled date parameters and now doesn't allow them? However, I admit I don't write or improve many school articles - and they fall in the minority of cases where I add an infobox - so I have two good reasons not to pursue the issue. I find it puzzling, though. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:12, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Yngvadottir, the bot is removing the ambiguous |year= when it is (1) blank and followed by another |year=, or (2) not blank, but followed by one with the exact same value. in the example I gave above, the bot wouldn't change it since it's not one of these two cases (since all the years are different). yes, it would be great if a bot could safely replace |year= with either |ACT_year= or |SAT_year= or |graduates_year= or ..., but I imagine that will require more coding for specifically cleaning up {{infobox school}} transclusions. hopefully, SporkBot can do that as well in the future, but it will probably require a WP:BRFA. Frietjes (talk) 20:37, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
and, to answer your other question, there was a mistake in the "blank copy-and-paste" template where it had duplicate |year= parameters. we figured out this was a problem, and replaced the multiple |year= parameters with |ACT_year=, |SAT_year=, and |graduates_year= in the documentation. we have also been fixing the articles, but it takes some time. Frietjes (talk) 20:39, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Hidden multi-line

How did you arrive at a decision of "keep" at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 December 3#Template:Hidden multi-line? With only two people commenting, me as nominator and another saying "keep for now" (my emphasis) and calling for extra discussion, at most this might have been "no consensus", but re-listing would have been better. Please reconsider. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:20, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Nina_Iliescu ..."wife of the 2th President"...

ive got a query regarding some grammar/facts on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nina_Iliescu in specific "wife of the 2th President" The article, right at the begining, says "...wife of the 2th..." this isnt right grammar... 1st 2nd 3rd 4th ... all good but 2th isnt right. i dont know the actual history to be confident enough to correct it. is it just a grammar thing or is a fact that is wrong, i just see the grammar inconsistency.

im a real noob as far as, just about everything goes, with wikipedia. i have good intentions. but hope ive not done too much, wrongly etc.

Undeleted template

Hi, I noticed that though you closed the discussion of Template:DC Comics' shared universe films with a consensus to delete back in December 2014 (see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 November 29), the template still hasn't been deleted. I've also found what I suspect may be the reason why: the nominator never tagged the template for the TfD. Is there anything I can do to fix this situation?--NukeofEarl (talk) 16:53, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

(tps) NukeofEarl, Template:DC Comics' shared universe films is a redirect not a template. the redirect was created on 10 December 2014, after the tfd closed. if you feel this redirect is inappropriate, you should nominate it at WP:RFD. Frietjes (talk) 17:59, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Somehow I thought the redirect was the result of a move that occurred during the TfD; perhaps I was confusing it with something else.--NukeofEarl (talk) 19:14, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Wrong action for duplicate template args

Hi, regarding this edit by SporkBot - it was the wrong action. The correct action would have been to leave the first instance of |lat_sec=00 alone, and alter the second one to |lon_sec=00. There are many more cases like this, because almost all of the railway station articles for Italy and Switzerland were created with that typo. This came about because the documentation for the template was itself in error, see Template:Infobox Italy station/doc (old version) and Template:Infobox Switzerland station/doc (deleted revision). How feasible would it be to locate all the cases where a |lat_sec= was removed, and unfix them, so that the proper fix may be applied? --Redrose64 (talk) 23:13, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

@Redrose64:, the bot keeps a log of all edits on my machine. The log includes a diff for each edit, so it should be no problem to search it for any 'lat_sec' matches. I will do that soon and make sure that none are still broken. On a related note, it might be good to have Module:Location map track uses of |lat_sec= without |lon_sec= and the reverse? The same could be done for other pairs? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 05:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Exactly what I was thinking very late last night. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:26, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
good idea, you could ask Jackmcbarn to add some tracking for lat_sec without lon_sec, lat_min without lon_min, ... which would help find this problem. Redrose64, if you want to clean up more of these, I made a list of about 450 matches after scanning the category. Frietjes (talk) 15:54, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
I formed an idea, and then had a look at {{Location map}} - and it's been Lua-ised, which makes it unmaintainable. So I left a note. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:00, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
@Redrose64: I did generate a list here. Given that you now have a tracking category, to find both the ones that the bot changed and the ones that are still lingering, I am assuming the list isn't needed? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Your list is good, these are the ones to give priority to, because a parameter was removed in error leaving five. Then I can work on those which still have six, and amend the one that is misnamed. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:30, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
The first five I checked were either "false positives" like [1] or fixed by an IP like [2], so it's possible there aren't many left to fix. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:35, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I've checked them all... it looks like that IP had already fixed those that needed it. Thank you for making the list though. --Redrose64 (talk) 00:17, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Query regarding standard TfD/TfM procedures

Hi, Plastikspork. I was just reviewing the February TfD discussions in which I had previously participated, and I noticed this: [3]. This seems to be an out-of-process addition of a third template to the TfD after it was already closed; it also appears that the third template was "boldly" merged/redirected previously with no prior TfD discussion. While I have little doubt that the outcome would probably have been the same if these three templates had been collectively discussed, that's not really the point. Can you explain your thought process here? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:48, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey Plastikspork. Obviously the consensus was against me. Obviously your close of the discussion as delete was proper. But, you may not delete the template before substituting its uses (after pointing all its redirects back at it), and thereby changing all my posts where I used it and its redirects, as well as posts of others when they used it. I will help with that process, if you want, or even just do it for you. Please advise.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:52, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

(tps) Fuhghettaboutit, it looks like there are zero? see Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Tiny_ping. Frietjes (talk) 23:06, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Fuhghettaboutit, template:tping points to template:reply to. so what would be the point of changing all the template:tping (a redirect) to template:ping (another redirect)? Frietjes (talk) 23:20, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
It points to it now; Plastikspork redirected it after he deleted tiny ping. My posts, using {{tping}}, were me using a shortcut to {{tiny ping}}. It is effectively no different than me (or anyone else) having used it directly.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:25, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Fuhghettaboutit, right, so what would be the point of changing all the transclusions of template:tping (a redirect) to template:ping (another redirect)? Frietjes (talk) 23:33, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
What? No, {{tiny ping}} – what {{tping}} was a redirect to – did not have the same content as {{ping}}, it had its own content (a much smaller-sized linked name). Tiny ping needs to be restored, and tping pointed back at it, so that all transcluded uses of it, when substituted, will place its content, and thus display as intended when originally placed. I'm not sure why you're bringing up {{ping}} at all. That just a redirect to reply to.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:40, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Fuhghettaboutit, as far as I can tell the entire purpose of deleting template:tiny ping was because it had such small text, so replacing it with a substituted version would be a bad idea, in my opinion. a better option would be to ask for a 'tiny' option to be added to template:reply to. I'm sure Andy Mabbett, RexxS, Timothy G., and editors concerned with accessibility would be happy to help come up with a compromise. by the way, if you don't like the size of template:reply to why not open common.css and add .template-ping { font-size:50%; } ? see here for an example. you can change the 50% to anything you want. Frietjes (talk) 00:06, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes, that was the purpose and going forward the template will be deleted. That's no dispensation whatever to change my posts in a few hundred places, as I intended them to display (or anyone else's). Nor does it stop me from pinging people however I want, including manually reducing it in the future. It only stops this template from future use. This should have been done without my asking. But as I said, I am even willing to do it though I shouldn't have to. Of course I could just undelete it, undo the redirect and get started and then delete it when I'm done, except that using my admin powers to undelete something after a discussion in which I was involved (even if it would be intended only for the few days to allow the substitution) is some species of wheel warring.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:23, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
This is a WP:POINTy request and should be ignored. The community consensus was clearly that using such minuscule, unreadable, text is a beach of our policy on acesisbility. Manually recreating its effect wuld be disruptive. An admin should know better. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:11, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes, of course you would say that Andy, in lieu of actual civil discourse. No, if this was pointy, I would have some other agenda than to simply have my posts not changed, which should have happened seamlessly without any effort on my part. No matter; I've figured out a way to do this without undeletion. I am disappointed that you, Plastik did not remedy this or see fit to even comment.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:44, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Plastikspork. Why did you close this discussion less than twelve hours after I posed a question? In addition, what were the opposing arguments that convinced you to close it as a "no consensus"? Alakzi (talk) 11:14, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

No consensus was coming out of the discussion, mostly due to the events immediately preceding the nomination of the template. There also wasn't a clear consensus concerning the choice of replacement. I would suggest waiting a bit, renominating it, without pre-orphaning it, and you will most likely get a more conclusive result. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 11:45, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
You say "no consensus was coming out of the discussion", and I would agree, if your closure were to simply reflect the discussion up to that point; however, directly above, you say, "I felt as though the arguments ... were convincing". Did you not weigh the arguments on this particular occasion? Why not? Alakzi (talk) 11:56, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Evidently, my query has upset you in some way, so we needn't spend any more time on it; it's not important. Take care. Alakzi (talk) 12:00, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of Template:Lists by country

Hi, i have just seen this discussion as a consequence of the template being deleted. I would have said Keep and do not agree with the deletion. I think there has been too stricter interpretation of policy here that does not meet common sense. I found this template useful and belive many other readers would as well, i found it a useful way to navigate between topics that inform about *different* characteristics of a country; the central value of the template is exactly the reason that was erroneously but well-meaningly cited for its deletion. Also, i believe the process has been floored. Only two or three editors views seem to have been taken into account which seems insufficient without making further efforts to draw others into the debate. I see no review of available facts like to number of page views, number page links, which could indicate support for counterarguements. Whizz40 (talk) 09:34, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Sorry you missed the discussion. I felt as though the arguments put forth by DexDor and Rob Sinden were convincing. A {{tfd}} tag was placed on the template, and the creator was notified. So, anyone reading the transcluding articles, or watching the template would have noticed. I did review the number of page links, and in fact, that was one of the reasons for deleting the template. Unless there is some procedural error that I am missing, your next step would be WP:DRV. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 10:21, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, on reflection the template probably doesn't fit the nav box policy. Whizz40 (talk) 20:24, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Former CHL team roster templates

I was about to create roster template for the Allen Americans, but I saw the notice that it was deleted before. I assume that was because only AHL & ECHL teams have roster templates? Raul17 (talk) 01:18, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Nevermind. It seems that the wikigods decided that ECHL teams should not have roster templates either. Raul17 (talk) 02:21, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm proud of you

Hi I just wanted you to know that I'm really appreciative of what you're doing here. Thank you for everything you've done to enrich our knowledge of the world. You truly are an inspiration to us all. When I was growing up, I found it difficult at times to transfer my knowledge to others in a way that was easily comprehensible. You are able to overcome the challenges I faced for years without any trouble. As a frequent Wikipedia reader, I find myself rarely bothering reading an article unless I see the elusive "last edited by SporkBot" in the top left corner. Thank you for not only filling my time with pleasure, but for educating the public and everything else you contribute to our nation. A tag has been placed on UAS International Trip Support requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". What is an arg?

What is an arg as used in some Edit summaries recently? BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 06:18, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @BeenAroundAWhile: arg = argument. It might be in the context of an argument of a function, but if this is in the context of a Wikipedia template, it's another name for a template parameter. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:14, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) See Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:23, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not sure why this abbreviation, which is certainly not a common one, is used in Edit summaries. In my opinion, it adds no information and is very confusing. Yours, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 02:33, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Good question. I am sorry, but I can't find the pages that bothered me. I appreciate the responses, though. Yours in Wikidom, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 02:54, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
There is a script User:Frietjes/findargdups.js (see User:Frietjes/findargdups for installation and usage). If when editing a page you invoke that script and it succeeds in finding a duplicate template parameter, it sets the edit summary to "Clean up duplicate template arguments using findargdups", which may be amended before saving. But it says "arguments", not "arg", so that might not be the kind of edit that BeenAroundAWhile is thinking of. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:58, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Well done. The edit summary links to the category linked above.Perhaps BeenAroundAWhile missed the link in the edit summary, which leads to text that explains the edit summary nicely (especially now that I have added some explanatory text). – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:27, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Alakzi, no problem. Perhaps you or Magioladitis know how to fix the section ordering? I put the 'see also' section above the references, but I noticed that many have the 'external links' section above the 'references'? The articles in question are mostly found in this list. Thanks! For example, see Tralee railway station and Tipperary halt. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk)
Not sure. There's not too many, so the easiest thing to do would be to look for ==External links.*==See also in AWB and fix them manually. Alakzi (talk) 17:25, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Infobox Italian comune

Hi, any chance you could update this to display Template:Location map Italy Sardinia as the pin map instead for the comunes in Sardinia? Much better scale. Also can't get a pin map on Tisselskog Church to work.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Dr. Blofeld: Two problems with the pushpin map at Tisselskog Church - first, there was no indication of which map to use, so I added |pushpin map=Sweden Västra Götaland; second, the coordinate params are |latd= |latm= etc. without underscores. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:28, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Cheers Redrose.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:31, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
The second is not exactly a problem. The pushpin map works without the coordinate parameters; the coordinates are on Wikidata. I've added a |pushpin_map= parameter to {{Infobox Italian comune}} for specifying maps other than the political map of Italy. Alakzi (talk) 13:33, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Mughal flag image

Regarding this (and similar) edits: As was discussed at the TfD the various Mughal Flag images available on wikimedia commons (including File:Flag of the Mughal Empire (triangular).svg) are problematic, and that is the reason to delete the template that uses any one of them. So the deleted template should be replace by nothing, or a link to the Mughal Empire article, as discussed with User:SiBr4 at the TfD. Can you halp with that? (I had also asked for SiBr4's help on their talkpage a few minutes back.) Abecedare (talk) 21:46, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Abecedare - In that particular case, the flag image was already being used above, so my edit just made the two uses consistent. However, feel free to simply remove them if there is a problem. You can find all of them by checking links to the file page. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:55, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

My concerns: Competitors, medals and flagbearer are not linked like before, location of the games are not shown, and most importantly: the history of the previous appearances of countries at the said games. This is a huge change and removal of material that should not have happened. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:36, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't think these were intentional. I'll take a look. Alakzi (talk) 18:37, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

The link to the category seems inappropriate and the opening ceremony link is an egg. The medals link might be worth keeping. Alakzi (talk) 18:55, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Why is it inappropriate? The Olympic infobox links to it... There is no link to opening ceremony. There is a link on flagbearers, which links to an article on the list of flagbearers for a games, so that should be kept as well! What about the history? The top of the inbox should say "Country at the Pan American Games" not Country as the 2015 Pan American Games" as well. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 19:06, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Weird sporkBot edit

[4] The bot seems to be making a lot of edits, so I'm not sure if it's been doing this a lot, but obviously that's not right. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:46, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Beeblebrox: The template was redlinked, it's possible that the person placing it was not a regular at English Wikipedia, but was familiar with the templates of another language. Since the topic is Mexican, I'm guessing a Spanish-speaking editor; and es:Plantilla:Destruir is equivalent to our own Template:Db. It takes one parameter, and in this case it's |A4 which is documented as
This speedy deletion criterion does not match our A4, so in altering it to {{db-a4}} the bot was assuming that our A4 was intended. It did not consider the possibility that Spanish A4 was intended, since there was no indication that the conventions of that language should be observed. es:WP:SRA is equivalent to our WP:N, but lack of notability is not a valid CSD criterion on English Wikipedia. Perhaps something like our WP:CSD#A7 was intended: but this is also not applicable because a "credible claim of significance or importance" is being made in the article. You can decline it and send out a {{subst:sdd2}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:54, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Question

I have a question about a TfD you closed today as "no consensus". I did not nominate it for deletion but I did support deletion in the discussion. I improved and used the template back in 2007/2008, but obviously since then most franchise-specific character infoboxes of this type have been replaced by {{Infobox character}} with success. In any case, my question is, is it inappropriate for me at this point to boldly implement the generic infobox across the character articles which use the Dune infobox? I have shown in Princess Irulan that no information need be lost in the conversion, and I am a self-declared Dune nerd so I have no intention of negatively impacting the articles. I'm in no rush but wanted to know your opinion. Thanks. — TAnthonyTalk 02:16, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

TAnthony, if you don't think there will be any major backlash, then go for it. There well may be consensus for revamping the article infoboxes, but I just didn't see one in that particular discussion. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:41, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Member's designations vs. Members' designations (in ICS infobox template)

Hello I empathise with template issues on Wiki and if you don't mind would like to flag up two issues which (whilst not causing major concern) are certainly not correct.

1. Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers - Member's designations should be Members' in the plural... 2. Savoy Chapel - the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Oliver Letwin) is the boss but is not "Clergy" more like "Admin" (or Lay Clergy) - so how to get him to appear under that heading?

Many thanks & I realise it ain't [sic!] easy so will be patient - many thanks.

PS. also a glaring error of the spelling of Lochiel which I am sure you have picked up (as well as certain people deleting PM David Cameron's relationship with the present Clan Chief, which hopefully now will not be erased again - assuming of interest of course!).

Recent TfD close

Hi Plastikspork: I'm curious why you closed the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2015 June 27 § Template:Subject bar as "no consensus to delete" rather than "keep". While discussions are not based upon vote count, out of eight contributors, only two contributors opined for deletion (including the nominator), and most !votes were essentially policy-based. North America1000 02:39, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

I closed it as "no consensus to delete" because there was no consensus to delete it. The fact that's used on such a small number of pages, doesn't suggest that there is strong consensus to keep use it either. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 01:00, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I disagree with the closing rationale relative to the number of pages the template is used on. For example, at AfD under this rationale, one could state that a retained article with a low number of monthly page views equates to "no consensus to delete", since people don't read the article much. People would likely complain about such a close. No offense intended, but your close comes across as somewhat of a WP:SUPERVOTE. Also, the template is presently transcluded on 2,054 pages (see Template transclusion count), which I find to be significant, because Template:Subject bar requires more work to publish than a simple copying and pasting of its contents. Perhaps you should have !voted instead of closing the discussion. North America1000 01:43, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
And to think I was having a generally pleasant day before you came along. I find your comments are extremely offensive. If you have anything more to say on this matter, please direct it to WP:DRV. Request for unprotection of Template:Infobox building

On October 12, 2009 you fully protected {{infobox building}} under the argument that "[it's a] Highly visible template". However, this template is (1) not mainstream, (2) user-created, and (3) used only on 0.28% of the English Wikipedia articles. I tried to find any discussion about this lock but I couldn't find anything on the template's talk page nor in WP:RFPP [6]. It seems to have been unilaterally protected by you under good faith. We currently have an issue since we can't perform a simple edit on the template because it's locked even though I'm a seasoned template editor.. but since I'm not an administrator I can't perform the change. Per WP:RFUP, I'm required to first ask you for unprotection. Kindly let me know what do you think. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 06:48, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Infobox questions

  1. In {{Infobox Hindu temple}}, one of the options is |telugu=, but I don't see this in the code. I think this is causing Venkateswara Temple, Vykuntapuram to show up in the deprecated category
  2. In {{Infobox broadcast }}, two of the options are |former_cities= and |former_locations=. but I don't see these in the code either. This is causing the 10 articles in the deprecated category to show up.
  3. In {{Infobox Christian leader}}, |ordinated_by= was replaced with |ordained_by=. Could you stop |ordinated_by= from showing up in the infobox, but still show up in the deprecated category.
  4. I think some of the deprecated image parameters are showing up in the infobox for {{Infobox school}}. I cleaned out the deprecated category. Could those parameters not show in the infobox, but still show up in the deprecated category.

I don't have a clue if #1 and #2 the parameters should or shouldn't be in the infobox. I'm just reporting a dependency. Bgwhite (talk) 21:55, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Bgwhite, some proposed answers for you:
1. |telugu= was erroneously added to the documentation with this edit. I have reverted that edit since the parameter is not in the template. I commented the parameter in the article in question, and that seems to have fixed the categorization. I don't know why the list of deprecated parameters is so long and undocumented.
2. |former_cities= and |former_locations= were added to the documentation with this edit, but I do not see them in the template's history. It is unclear whether these parameters ever existed. There is a discussion on the talk page. If I were trying to clear the deprecated parameter category, I would comment those parameters in the articles, remove those parameters from the template's documentation, and post a note on the infobox's talk page in the section I linked in the previous sentence.
3.  Done. See this discussion. It looks like the steps are: 1. You change all instances of |ordinated_by= to |ordained_by= in articles. 2. Ping me or post here and I will edit the template to prevent it from displaying values for |ordinated_by=, since the Talk page shows consensus for doing so.
4. Since this infobox is a merger of at least twelve templates, I think a Talk page discussion would be appropriate before removing support for any parameters. On the Talk page for the infobox, show a list of parameters that are currently deprecated but displayed in articles and that you would recommend changing to deprecated and not displayed.

Hi again. It seems like everything is now in place for the bot sweep. Seven days have passed, and there are none against. The discussion is here (also linked from WikiProject Rivers and WikiProject Dams). Basically, as soon as the bot is ready run, we need to copy all the code from the sandbox to the main template. The list of bot actions are listed here, for your easy reference.

The final list of supported parameters are listed at the sandbox page. P.s. The sandbox template contains some non-documented parameters, this is only to support high-use depreciated parameters, and will eventually be removed later.

Thanks for helping. I will ping you via email shortly. Cheers, Rehman 13:27, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Issue with repairing duplicate template arguments

Hi Plastikspork! While working to fix some talk page templates, I noticed that last year Sporkbot made edits like this edit to delete duplicate template arguments. Mondak, Montana

Good Evening/Morning,

I am new to the editing on Wikipedia and apparently I made some mistakes by taking too long and making too many small revisions. I see that you reverted everything I did and called it vandalism. I apologize for that and it won't happen again. But, I don't believe the information I did provide was "nonsense" or vandalism. The information I provided was relevant. The dating on the Mondak, Montana page was incorrect, in reference to the rail station closing. I added newspaper articles confirming the true closing year and I re-edited the page to correct it. Did I do the right thing? I don't want to be blocked from future editing for a simple mistake on a newbie's part. Thanks so much, in advance, for any feedback you can provide. MrsEscue (talk) 06:18, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi MrsEscue, I was the one that reverted your edits to the Mondak page, so I'll reply to you. First off, I'm not sure why you chose to post on this user's page, you should have posted to the article's talk page at:Talk:Mondak, Montana (I wouldn't be surprised if Plastikspork moves this whole section over there). As for your edits, they certainly appeared as test edits and when you added your user name to an existing cite, that appeared to be a nonsense/vandalism type of edit. I accept that you meant no harm. I have since added a 'welcome' template to your talk page. I would suggest you read through all the information to be found via the various links so that you can learn how to contribute more effectively. Should you have any questions or need more assistance, you go can to the help desk. Good luck. - theWOLFchild 07:27, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Template protection of Template:Infobox political party

Hi Plastikspork, I noticed your template-protecting Template:Infobox political party. Following a few good-faith edits that mildly broke the template, but were immediately reverted, I don't think the template deserves full protection, and per WP:TPROT, template protection is only meant to replace full protection rather than to expand (full) protection of templates. While from what I can see, neither vandalism nor edit-warring ever occured, a majority of edits (including edits by regular users) were improvements. While it is fairly visible with a few thousand times transclusions, it is also closely monitored. Regards, PanchoS (talk) 11:38, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Sporkbot duplicate parameter refinement?

I wonder why Sporkbot did not detect and remove the |MC= parameter in Here We Go Magic (album)? The first occurrence of the parameter was blank, and the second was populated. I think that should satisfy Sporkbot's criteria to remove the first parameter. Hmm. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:36, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Jonesey95, probably because of the HTML comment. if I recall, SporkBot treats HTML comments the same as text (for the purpose of comparing parameter values) so as not to remove important comments. perhaps something could be done if the comment follows on its own line with nothing else before or after it? Frietjes (talk) 23:29, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
You are correct. Good memory. Quoth the Spork on that page: nor would it do anything to {{template name|a= <!-- some comment --> |a=value1|b=value2}}. We'll just keep fixing them by hand. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:46, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Template deletion

Hi there. I was reviewing some old templates I created and noticed you deleted my original version of {{Card games}} based on this discussion. I don't think you properly reviewed the situation, as an IP editor changed the original version of the template to this before nominating it for deletion. Moreover, I was never notified of this nomination. The consensus (with little input) was to delete, but that was based on the template after it was significantly reduced, and the template was eventually merged to {{Cardgames}}, which has a different scope. Can you quickly inspect this and let me know what you think? Mindmatrix 18:06, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Mindmatrix, I restored your old version to Template:Card game categories. I think the general problem is that category links in navboxes are generally discouraged, although not completely prohibited. Usually the need for a link to a category in a navbox suggests the need for a list article. Thanks for letting me know about the problem! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 11:50, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: What happened here? You say that you're relisting the discussion, but you deleted and closed it as well. That can't be right, surely? PamD 17:15, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

I didn't say or do anything; but Plastikspork relisted the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 August 27#Template:Genukiary. There's a link to that in the old discussion. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:06, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
@PamD: Yes, that's one of the common methods for relisting at TFD: (1) Move the thread to the new page with a {{relist}} at the bottom, and (2) Close the thread on the old page, leaving only the section heading and a link to the new page. The reason for moving, rather than copying is to reduce the post-expand size to avoid overloading the main discussion page. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:09, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
OK, I see. I've not been around TfD much and it was surprisingly different from what happens at AfD, and I didn't notice the subtlety of the linked date as an indication that the discussion had moved elsewhere. Thanks for the explanation. PamD 23:41, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

I saw the TFD on {{Needs English sources}}, and I wanted to say thanks for making a decision there. So many people look at discussions like that and re-list endlessly in the hope of finding a supermajority, so that they can just count up the numbers without needing to think about the arguments (or to avoid being blamed for the "wrong" decision). I really appreciate you making a decision. Thanks. WhatamIdoing (talk) 08:30, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

TfD autonumbered list

Hi Plastikspork.

Just curious, but can you point me in the direction of the discussion for {{autonumbered list}}. I cannot find it. (It must be somewhere no doubt!). Aoziwe (talk) 14:16, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

(tps) Aoziwe, it looks like it was about to be sent to TFD, but then was simply moved to userspace (see User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/autonumbered list). the stated issue is that it calls User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/colevel/headings, User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/colevel/column style, User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/colevel/item set, ... so moving it to User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/autonumbered list puts it in the same namespace as all its backend templates. as far as I can tell, it's not even usable in articles due to the code complexity level triggering wp:exceeded template limits. see, for example, the warning at the top of User:Pee_Tern/Sandbox/Template/autonumbered_list/doc. You relisted Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 September 20#Template:Navbox prehistoric caves. At the point you did, there were 2 delete votes, the nominator and a 2nd person who thought it was too big, and 4 supports. I didn't vote because I really thought it had been resolved as after the 2nd person voted delete because of the size it was revised so that it splits by continent, which should have satisifed that editor. I've now voted also. As the concerns about size had been met, I didn't think it would be relisted and still don't think it should have been. Doug Weller talk 14:12, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure I understand this close. Sure, two editors !voted "delete" and I was the only one explicitly arguing for keeping, but it's not raw vote count that matters, is it? I'd expect a discussion leading to consensus, and I wouldn't have minded if any of the other two participants had addressed my arguments. Is there some policy that I'm missing which says that templates should be deleted simply on the grounds of being unused? Uanfala (talk) 08:03, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

(tps) Uanfala, item 3 in Reasons to delete a template was addressed by User:BU Rob13 with the comment "The evidence that this isn't likely to be used is obvious here". Frietjes (talk) 16:52, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I was obviously involved in this discussion, but I also close discussions at TfD with frequency. This outcome was well-within the norms of typical TfD outcomes. In cases where templates have existed for a long time but were never transcluded more than a couple times, the burden of proof is firmly on someone wishing to keep the template to demonstrate evidence that some editors would find the template useful and want to use it. Obviously, it's impossible to prove any template could never be used, but a lack of usage for many months is strong evidence that the probability is quite low in the absence of further evidence. ~ Rob13Talk 17:06, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

TFD:2016 September 4#Single-use_weatherbox_templates

Why did you wait a full week after closing to address to deal with the formerly doubly transcluded templates? The unanimous opinion only applied to those templates with single transclusion. CaradhrasAiguo (talk) 13:50, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

(tps) and they were singly transcluded before you unilaterally decided to start adding them to other articles. if you really need them in multiple articles, you should use LST, but please check the references section when you do so. I spent a considerable amount of time cleaning up reference name collisions. Frietjes (talk) 16:55, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
@Frietjes: Again, a sky-high pile of nonsense. The discussion did not pertain to usage of LST, and if it did, templates such as ({{New York City weatherbox}}) would have been fair game for that discussion. CaradhrasAiguo (talk) 17:39, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
they were singly transcluded before you unilaterally decided to start adding them to other articles in the middle of the discussion. Frietjes (talk) 17:52, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
And yet none of the additional transclusions were challenged via reversion. I should note that some titles at the list I linked to above were left untouched by Plastikspork (e.g. {{Islip, New York weatherbox}}), which leaves me dumbstruck at the seeming arbitrary mergers and deletions from yesterday. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Plastikspork. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Close old discussions

Hi.

Does Tfd have a page like Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Old unclosed discussions?

Yes, there is Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Old unclosed discussions!
Which is thankfully empty. As opposed to the Cfd one. Debresser (talk) 09:05, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

And another question. Or actually a request. There is an old discussion at Cfd that needs closing, Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_June_8#Roman_Empire_establishments_.281st_century_and_earlier.29. I recently closed a lot of old Cfd discussions, but in this case I decided to express my opinion instead of closing it. Now we need an uninvolved admin to close it. Would you be willing to do so, by way of exception? Debresser (talk) 17:55, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

I will have a look over the next day or two, assuming someone else doesn't close it first. I typically only close discussions at TfD, since I am more familiar with the process and procedure there. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:06, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. It's quite a large nomination, which may be the reason nobody has closed it since June! Obviously, if it would be closed as a "keep" or, which is more likely, "no consensus", the job would be easy enough. Debresser (talk) 09:05, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Plastikspork.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

TFD close

I see you closed Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2016_November_12#Template:Trump. Why did you do the history merge with {{Trump family}} rather than {{Trump businesses}}?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 18:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

As already said in the TfD, JFG forked the content into three new + 1 existing templates without follwing WP:CWW and without helping to fix that. I'm very thankful to Plastikspork that he at least fixed one fo these (still, without getting a proper request), so i didn't want to bother him for more... Yet, it would be very nice if the history merge could also be applied to Template:Trump media, Template:Trump businesses and Template:Trump presidency (a history can be applied more than once afaik, it's "just" a text file, only the procedure is a lot of work for the admin). --SI 18:57, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
User:TonyTheTiger and User:Schmarrnintelligenz, the history is a sequence of edits and can only be associated with one page per edit. I am guessing that the reason for history merging it with {{Trump family}} is that it was the easiest (least amount of overlapping history), but I am sure spork can say more. looking at it some more, it looks like either one is just as easy, but it can be only one of the two. Frietjes (talk) 20:39, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Schmarrnintelligenz and Frietjes, thanks for supporting a history merge. I am just not convinced anyone is as good as the other. We had a big template that was split up. It seems to me that the best way to associate the history is with the template that has the largest portion of the prior large template. I am curious about the reasoning behind doing anything else.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:20, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

What was this all about? The irony is lost on me. Intentionally, no doubt. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:11, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

The simple answer is that the page that was "Template:User DGAF2" got renamed to "User:UBX/DGAF2" (inside of {{/}} the "Template:" is implied unless there is a different prefix-colon). If you want to know why it got renamed: per Wikipedia:Userbox migration, userboxes that were named "Template:User THING" were to be renamed to "User:USERNAME/THING" where "USERNAME" is a user who is willing to watch over the userbox. When many userboxes didn't have a user willing to watch over them, User:UBX was created to adopt all the orphan userboxes. ~ LukeShu (talk) 11:00, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Template:Language table

So, I'm 5 years late to respond, but what motivated edit to Template:Language table? How does it look so far

Plastikspork, thank you for your citation fix at And you are lynching Negroes.

I've been trying to improve the page after seeing, unfortunately, long-standing-conflict going back years [9].

State before [10], and after [11].

Really fascinating to discover through the course of my research the phrase was actually quite popular during the 1940s, and may even have been popularized by Leo Tolstoy as early as 1901. That 2nd part though needs more research to confirm so leaving it in the "Further reading" section, for now.

I was also quite happy to find the 1980 Václav Havel source, and the 1999 source about Prime Minister of Russia Sergei Stepashin.

Let me know what you think, how does it look so far ? Sagecandor (talk) 00:27, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Template transclusion in js comment

This edit made me laugh. The whole point of having that fake transclusion in there was to show that WM's method of detecting template transclusions at Special:WantedTemplates is broken. I commented on T10761 and wish I had the programming chops to actually design fixes for some of these long-standing cosmetic/annoying bugs that prevent gnomes from doing better work. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Jonesey95, I know. And, I knew that you knew it was a bug from the comments around it. If you still need it as a demonstration, it would be great if you could choose some template which hasn't been deleted to avoid putting your page in the corresponding database report. I was able to get the number of pages in my local version down to under 15 today! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:50, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95, Do you have any idea on how to fix Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Taxonomy/Dictyoptera? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:52, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
I fixed a few of those red-linked taxo-templates, but I skipped that one and a couple of others because of the parenthetical weirdness. I'll take another look. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:37, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
(tps) Jonesey95, the core issue is caused by the following call
{{taxonomy links/cell
    |rank=unranked
    |taxon=Dictyoptera (cohort)
    |link=[[Dictyoptera (cohort){{!}}Dictyoptera]]
    |auth=
 }}
which uses transclusions of Template:Taxonomy/{{delink| {{{link}}} }}. I don't know why it uses that instead of Template:Taxonomy/{{{taxon}}} which would be much cheaper (and probably more accurate?), avoiding the delink. someone like Peter coxhead could probably provide some insight. Frietjes (talk) 16:56, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
{| class="wikitable"
|+ Sandbox version
{{#invoke:Autotaxobox|taxonomyList|Blattellidae|_sandbox=y}}
|}
I did some experimentation, and the above appears to work exactly the same as the version without the |_sandbox=y flag, but without the improper transclusions. Frietjes (talk) 17:12, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
@Frietjes: there's no guarantee that in all cases the value of |taxon= and the delinked |link= will be the same: the first is passed in, the second picked up from the taxonomy template. However, the problematic transclusion can soon go, and {{taxonomy links/cell}} be put back to more-or-less how it was before this edit by Wikid77. He made the change to allow hard-coded ancestral taxa in templates and thus avoid expansion depth problems. Now that I've re-coded all the traversals of the taxonomic hierarchy in Lua (at Module:Autotaxobox), the expansion depth problem has disappeared. So we can remove the hard-coded ancestors in taxonomy templates and then the code dealing with them. Please just tolerate the red links for now. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:57, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Peter coxhead, yes, clearly in this case, the delinked link is Dictyoptera and the taxon is Dictyoptera (cohort), which are not the same. one has a taxonomy page and the other doesn't. I don't understand why you would ever want to use the link text instead of the link target. however, it sounds like you have a better plan for fixing it, which is great. Frietjes (talk) 18:02, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
@Frietjes: maybe you don't want to know this, but the difference arises when there are variant taxonomy templates for the same underlying taxon. Thus to avoid Aves and Reptilia both showing up at the Linnaean rank of Class in a taxobox, Template:Taxonomy/Aves has Template:Taxonomy/Ornithurae/skip as its parent, which bypasses Reptilia. So taxon=Ornithurae/skip, because the value of the taxon parameter is actually the last part of the name of the taxonomy template, not necessarily the name of the taxon. The link text shown in the taxobox has to be just "Ornithurae". Template:Taxonomy/Ornithurae corresponds to taxon=Ornithurae; it has the same link text as the taxon parameter. Peter coxhead (talk) 18:15, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Peter coxhead, it would seem that a safer idea would be to pass more fine-grained information upstream, rather than trying to figuring it all out by delinking a single link. i.e., pass link_target, link_text, and parent_taxonomy_template_name. but, it sounds like you have an easier solution. Frietjes (talk) 18:20, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
@Frietjes: "solution" is a strong word! The automated taxobox system was complicated when it was developed, mostly between 2010 and 2012. Since then it's been extended, patched and tweaked by multiple editors. Some of it is a bit of a mess (e.g. there are many apparently unused templates). Whether I have any "solutions" or just more "patches" remains to be seen. :-) Peter coxhead (talk) 20:41, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Peter coxhead, whatever you did seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the help! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:31, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Classical templates

I disagree with your deletion of the classical radio templates for Vermont, Virginia, and Maine. These were keeping with other format templates in same and other states. Hello. After returning from an absence, I'm trying to catch myself up on some of he ArbCom actions that have occurred while I was gone. Eggishorn, no problem. Before the edit by Mr. Stradivarius in 2014, the template was silently ignoring the second parameter. I remember cleaning up a bunch of these pages after I made that edit (and similar ones at other user templates), but I obviously didn't get round to all of them. I've just fixed a bunch more as well. Most of the fixes are complex enough that I doubt a bot would be much good - so far today my fixes have involved tweaking two templates, making several null edits, "unsubsting" several substitutions of {{sockpuppet}}, plus a few miscellaneous things. @Cyberpower678: User:Floquenbeam is referring to the requirement that persons complained about at WP:AN should be informed of the existence of the thread. But I agree with you, the most important thing here was the widespread disruption caused by the edit and you rightly demanded immediate action. If there's criticism here it should be a trout directed at Plastiksport, who arguably breached the bot policy by making this change without testing it first. List of countries by motor vehicle production in the 2000s

thank you for merging the templates into List of countries by motor vehicle production in the 2000s. is there any particular reason why we need to have both List of countries by motor vehicle production in the 2000s and List of countries by motor vehicle production in the 2010s? seems like they could be merged together? Hi and happy new year. I'm always a bit hamfisted with templates and I have the possibly erroneous idea that you are really good with them ... what am I getting wrong here? Educate me! --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 09:42, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Dweller, are you trying to set up auto-archiving, or just notify users that threads older than 30 days may be archived? If the former, you need to set up something with lowercase sigmabot III or ClueBot III (though I suggest lowercase). If the latter, you have done it properly. Mendelo, while it is your sandbox, this discussion determined that the templates should be deleted. If you wish to change the fundamental way we perform deletions, then you should bring it up at WT:TFD or the Village Pump. Primefac (talk) 03:02, 6 January 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

Removing duplicate parameters

I'm not entirely sure this edit is the best way to deal with duplicate parameters, given that the two params have different values. Thoughts? --Izno (talk) 02:25, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

And the table on the right at Help:CS1#Pages seems to indicate at least implicit (if not explicit don't-categorize-me-bro) support for both in that template. Might not be the fault of the bot, but that edit is definitely suboptimal. --Izno (talk) 02:41, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Izno, What's the problem? The bot changed | volume=56 | volume=56 with | volume=56. How is that they have two different values? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:55, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Pages using a team bracket with nbsp

I was wondering if you could have your bot work on Category:Pages using a team bracket with nbsp. to empty the category, the bot would need to remove any &nbsp; after the <br> in any team parameters in any of the bracket templates invoked by Module:Tennis bracket tracking. there may be a few positives, which can be fixed by hand (usually due to a {{noflag}} which seems to have a similar pattern). I have been working my way through all the bracket templates and replacing any &nbsp; padding with proper inline css table cell padding. but, as a hack, editors were compensating for the &nbsp; padding for doubles teams by adding another &nbsp; after the br tag. for example, the extra padding that I fixed here. the tracking category may still be filling up, but I don't expect more than about 4k total. thank you Frietjes (talk) 23:30, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

thanks for the help, I was able to fix all the non-obvious ones. the clean up is moving along. could you history merge "Module:TeamBracket-Compact-Tennis" with "Module:TeamBracket-Tennis". the new module is functionally equivalent when |compact=yes and |sets=yes. Being specific

When I saw your closure of Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2017_April_12#Template:Crystal,[13] I already though to write you and be more specific with the closing statement: not simply "merge" but "merge crystal into speculation with the text of crystal", as per the discussion (based on my opinion). This[14][15] you should be specific when closing Tfd discussions. So that editors won't come along later and think they know better. Debresser (talk) 05:13, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Topic ban

Regarding User:KATMAKROFAN. He has made some really bad calls ever since he became active in the template area, which inadvertently I have had to revert. In all those cases he made some bad edit without prior discussion. Is there any way you see we can ban him from templates, or otherwise restrict him? I have found that hardly any edit of his was good in this area. Debresser (talk) 05:15, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

As it's bad form to discuss editors without pinging them, I'm pinging KATMAKROFAN. And please, Debresser, don't just jump to ANI because a user did something you weren't expecting. Talk to them first (don't just threaten to report them). Primefac (talk) 16:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC) Re-ping Debresser. Primefac (talk) 16:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
@Primefac I was asking for advice on procedure. I was not looking to discuss User:KATMAKROFAN. That is not bad form; that is asking for advice. If I wanted to discuss with KATMAKROFAN at this stage, I would have posted a message on his talkpage. I did not want to do so, and your interference in my request for advice is very much out of line and very much not appreciated. Debresser (talk) 16:45, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Technically, I did give some advice on procedure (talk first, ANI later). Also, if you didn't want to specifically discuss KATMAKROFAN, then you should have just asked a generic "if a user is doing X..." Finally, please be aware I can read your edit summaries, and while I've been called much worse it's still not a polite thing to say. Plastikspork, if you want me to stop tps-ing, just let me know. Primefac (talk) 16:55, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
So let's mutually apologize. You for interfering in a way that was specifically not desired, and I for the offense in calling that stupid and nosy. Debresser (talk) 22:48, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Primefac! I would say your best chance for getting a topic ban is to go through ANI, once you have exhausted all other options. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:42, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

looks like it was deleted before, probably related to this history. probably some confusion since they both used to redirect to {{lacking ISBN}}, which is (of course) confusing since {{ISBN}} is the exact opposite. Frietjes (talk) 12:58, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Yep, looks like the bot was using cached list from after the redirects were deleted, but before the template names were repurposed. It shouldn't happen again. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:51, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Your cleanup of a footnote in the Calabria article

Hello Platikspork, I noticed you made an edit to Calabria to one of the references I added. As you can see here right now, the link to exact line number doesn't work anymore. It worked before when it still had the "location" argument. I don't doubt your template cleanup has good intentions, but can you please fix this? --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 11:47, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Actually I managed to fix it myself by using the chapter-url argument as described here. But I would appreciate it if you would do this yourself next time. --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 11:54, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Template:uw-unsourced1 and related templates

Concerning your edit [18] in this and other related templates associated with a TFD closure: You removed a <noinclude> tag that is important to the code. I attempted to use one of the templates to warn a user, and I'm going, "What the... ?" when there was extra stuff added that shouldn't have been in the warning. MPFitz1968 (talk) 01:10, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

MPFitz1968, in Plastikspork's defence, that's a script issue, but I'll be mentioning it on the script's talk to get that patched. Thanks for the heads up! Primefac (talk) 02:08, 13 May 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
Edit: Never mind, 'spork is using the old script, which has been superseded by User:Evad37/XFDcloser. Still, thanks! Primefac (talk) 02:10, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

On a technical note

I saw your edit at {{Adopt me}}.[19] I think the |$N=Adopt me part is not necessary any more. Debresser (talk) 10:09, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

I understand my rationales at that and Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2017 April 29#Template:Africa Labelled Map contradict each other which is why I argued to keep the templates for now. I believe you should have relisted those templates at least. Would you explain how any of those templates are simplier to edit than Template:Africa Labelled Map?Gonejackal (talk) 23:57, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Your comments here and here contradict each other. The comments concerning Template:Africa Labelled Map are somewhat tangential since maps are not team rosters. For precedent concerning roster templates, see here, here, here, ... Basically, there is a really long history of merging and deleting single-use roster templates. Thanks! Userfication of Deleted template for Deletion review

Please userfy the template from Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2017_May_20#Template:La_Reine_Margot for WP:DELREV.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:33, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Sure, it's now in your userspace. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:10, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
I have put together my WP:DELREV argument at User:TonyTheTiger/sandbox/DELREV. I am suppose to talk to you (the closer) before going forward with a DELREV. I consider it likely that you were unfamiliar with the history of the discussions regarding templates with content such as historical figures. Given that you likely were not familiar with this history, I think you will now understand why I disagree with your closure and seek your blessing to go forward with a DELREV unless you want to reverse yourself.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:52, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
TonyTheTiger, I didn't see anyone other than you citing WP:BIDIRECTIONAL. The main argument for deletion was that the links provided in the template were a subset of the links provided in {{Alexandre Dumas}}, hence the navigation was viewed as redundant. However, feel free to start a discussion at WP:DELREV, but note that deletion review is not for resolving tangential disputes with other editors. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:04, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
You have definitely cited the stated reason. However, looking at the template, it is clear that the only way for that statement to be remotely true is by discounting all of the historical figure links. Otherwise, only about a quarter of the links are actually in {{Alexandre Dumas}}. Note that the deleted template has 16 links only 4 of which were in the Dumas template at the time. There have to be two arguments for a valid deletion. You have to argue that the historical figure links should be removed from the template (and ignored from consideration) and then that 4 of the remaining 5 links were in the Dumas template (the fifth has been shoehorned into the template since the debate closed). Do you feel that there was a valid argument to ignore the 11 historical figure links? if so, what is it? I am saying that their reason to ignore the 11 historical figure links has been debunked in the 6 prior debates over the language of BIDIRECTIONAL.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:43, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
TonyTheTiger, if you feel there are links missing from {{Alexandre Dumas}}, why not add them? Seems like the obvious thing to do if the overlap between the two templates was so great. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:16, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
The other 11 links don't belong on {{Alexandre Dumas}}, which is why this template serves a purpose. Therefore, I will restate the question that you did not answer. The deleted template has 16 links, 5 of those are now in {{Alexandre Dumas}} (4 were there at the time of the debate). Thus, the majority of the links are not redundant. In order to make the case that the links in the deleted template are redundant you have to explain why the other 11 links to historical figures should be disregarded. As I stated above "Do you feel that there was a valid argument to ignore the 11 historical figure links? if so, what is it?"--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:36, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
TonyTheTiger, from my reading of the discussion, the three other editors (Jc86035, Robsinden, and Frietjes) who voiced an opinion in the TfD believed that the overlap between the two templates was significant enough for the "La Reine Margot" template to be considered redundant navigation or not necessary. I don't think their arguments were baseless. If I am mis-characterizing their stated opinions, they should absolutely correct me. I, personally, really don't have an opinion one way or the other, I just read the discussions and close according to the consensus opinion. So, if you think I misread the discussion, you (or anyone else) are welcome to get a second opinion at WP:DELREV. Just make sure that the reason falls under the reasons listed at Wikipedia:Deletion review#Purpose. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:48, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying your decision. I will be going forward with a DELREV later tonight (tomorrow UTC).--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:37, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello! I hope you can join in cleaning-up K-drama pages and their international broadcast sections as they are in violation of Wiki guidelines (Wiki is not a catalog/ TV guide). It's also a breeding ground for promotion from streaming sites, legal or not. It's an exclusive feature of these Korean pages, US/UK shows don't have it.

For example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Lovers:_Scarlet_Heart_Ryeo#International_broadcast It's one of the better formatted ones. The others just full-blown lists of flag icons, TV stations and broadcast time.Chiefyuks (talk) 03:26, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi Plastikspork.
