August 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Marilou Awiakta, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may discuss this with other editors on the article's talk page. You reversed the meaning of sourced text, but did not add a new source. This misrepresents the sources and is considered disruptive. Please read the guidelines on citing sources. Thanks, - CorbieVreccan 00:35, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The source cited was absolutely correct. It was the way the statement to which it was attached that was inaccurate. It said Awiakta "claims" to be a Cherokee/ She is no Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas wannabe and she disliked the phrasing. The source to which it was attached clearly says she has Cherokee heritage; it is not merely a claim. The source cited is much better than the wikipe3dia entry. 108.4.179.191 (talk) 00:13, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Planier. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Marilou Awiakta, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising,[1] publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. I missed it at the time, but editing at the request of the article subject definitely falls under COI, and explains the commercial details, addresses and phone numbers, etc that were added to the article. - CorbieVreccan 01:01, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
