Thoughts[edit]

Great work on this Pipian! I had wanted to update the instrument infobox for some time, but you did pretty much everything I wanted to. My remaining suggestions:

  • Make the inventor field optional, as many instruments do not have a known inventor
  • Remove the developed and "related instruments" fields entirely, as I think these are too difficult to describe neutrally and briefly, and just aren't suited for an infobox
  • Add an optional field for Chinese/Japanese traditional classification: metal (bells), stone (stone chimes), earth (ocarina), leather (drums), silk (stringed instruments), wood (double reed wind instruments), gourd (sho , or mouth organ), and bamboo (flute)[1] and one for the traditional Indian classification: non-membranous percussion (ghan), membranous percussion (avanaddh), wind blown (sushir), plucked string (tat), bowed string (vitat)[2]
  • Combine the builders, musicians and "More articles" fields into an "Other" area, as they don't seem likely to ever be expanded beyond a link to list of X players. Make the "Other" section optional.
  • Add an optional field for at least one sound sample - ideally, each article should probably have one basic one (playing the scale or a simple rhythm) and one that's a freely-licensed full song based around the instrument, or something like that.

Thank you. I agree that a sound sample would be good, especially for blind people; Xun (instrument) sort of kludges one. HLHJ (talk) 22:29, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
