Welcome[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Peter E. James, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! Please warn vandals[edit]

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Maslow's hierarchy of needs: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you.--M4gnum0n (talk) 14:54, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Feel Like Makin' Love (Bad Company song). Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. --M4gnum0n (talk) 23:17, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club for deletion[edit]

The article Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club is being discussed concerning whether it is suitable for inclusion as an article according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. - Ahunt (talk) 14:18, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Limited edition[edit]

Hi, now that Limited edition points to a disambig, please don't forget to clean up the incoming links per WP:FIXDABLINKS. Navigation popups with the popupFixDabs flag set to true is a big help. Cheers, --JaGatalk 16:27, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like a separate page (Limited edition) will be needed before some of the links can be fixed, as there is no page about limited editions, only about certain types of products (books, and candy; in many contexts "special edition" isn't exactly the same). Peter E. James (talk) 00:02, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In the time being, I'll probably revert to what we had then - unless you wanted to create this article. --JaGatalk 03:29, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hugh Darwen[edit]

It has been the third time UKWikiGuy tries to delete Hugh Darwen, without ever putting up an argument. I will try and find if he can really be such a nuisance or if there is any policy against such bothersome behaviour. Both the article’s talk page and the deletion page have the arguments for keeping, and no answer to them whatsoever for two months now.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Sheepwash, Devon, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Sheepwash. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 09:14, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing.. Not really sure how I did that. :/ Matthewedwards :  Chat  17:50, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

National Tradesmen Day--Deleted[edit]

Hey Peter,

Is there a way for me to edit my post so that it is no longer in violation of code <G11>? The intention of the content was to inform people about the newly announced National Tradesmen Day. I have drafted some changes to remove the IRWIN Tools branding but cannot figure out how to apply them now that the article has been deleted. I am also welcome to any suggestions from you on what content may need to be rewritten. Just want to make sure we get this right!

Thanks, Abaker1067 (talk) 21:30, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see any sign that the book generated much press. The article is unsourced and the link to the one known review no longer works. So I will set it up for an AfD. I'm going to get rid of a lot of these vanity listings. Spoonkymonkey (talk) 16:12, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Peter, on my talk page, another editor has questioned the wisdom of my actions regarding the full protection of Nicosia; I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter, before making a decision. If you wish, please feel free to chime in here. Salvio Let's talk about it! 14:37, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peter. I have replied to your comment on the Nicosia discussion page and I would like to see your thoughts. The issue of representation of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality in the Nicosia page is controversial and it needs to be discussed more thoroughly. Thanks. Mallya[edit]

I see you deleted my proposed page deletion but without giving an edit summary or putting anything on the talk page. have I missed some clear reasons why this list doesn't fail WP:LISTN? Alf.laylah.wa.laylah (talk) 22:14, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a surname article, and is useful for navigation. According to Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Standards#Example it seems to be a valid surname page, similar to the example under the "surname stub" heading on that page - if you think it should be deleted you can take it to AFD. Peter E. James (talk) 22:19, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to check your reasons, which seem perfectly fine to me on reading the standard, of which I was unaware. Thanks for clarifying! Alf.laylah.wa.laylah (talk) 22:35, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While it probably makes sense to redirect these minor areas to the larger area, there ought to be some mention of them in the target page. Otherwise someone following the link will have no indication why they've got where they have - and the redirect is liable to be deleted if someone spots that there is no mention of "Whitecote" on the Bramley page to which it points. Linking PROD reasons[edit]

You are doing an excellent job PRODding hoaxes! One suggestion: it is possible to use Wikilinks within a PROD reason, and if instead of "Unverifiable, and if it exists is probably not notable" you put "Unverifiable, and if it exists is probably not notable", it gives a newbie links that may help him understand what he's doing wrong. Skoda Bigfoot[edit]

I think we should keep it. Yes, there are not as much details yet announced, but it will be one day. We could improve the article on that day. And also, Wikipedia readers would be able to discover that a new car will be coming soon. That's what happened to me when I was just browsing around Wikipedia and saw "Peugeot iOn", looked at the article, and discovered that that car will be coming soon. So... --Chacha15 (talk) 17:06, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol survey[edit]

New page patrol – Survey Invitation

Hello Peter E. James! The WMF is currently developing new tools to make new page patrolling much easier. Whether you have patrolled many pages or only a few, we now need to know about your experience. The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation also appears on other accounts you may have, please complete the survey once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey. Global message delivery 12:45, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

You really should take a look at this one again; despite what your edit summary says, there are no references, just external links to wordpress blogs and advocacy web sites. I've been following edits made about this person and without fail they're all soapbox-type POV stuff. 69.181.251.214 (talk) 23:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The amount of coverage is what is important (WP:GNG). There is enough from reliable sources (Canadian newspapers) to indicate significance, and to avoid speedy deletion, however you could nominate it at Articles for deletion. Peter E. James (talk) 23:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NPP survey[edit]

Hi Peter. I would just like to thank personally on behalf of the survey team for your excellent and thoughtful feedback. Do keep up the good work, and if you ever have any questions regarding NPP, don't hesitate to drop me a line - I'm also part of the team that is developing the new tools. We are also asking just a few patrollers to supply us with screencasts of their patrolling sessions; if you would like to submit one, let me know. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:07, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide some reference for why you have changed the link from Leyland to British Leyland - I suspect most of Michelotti's work on their trucks came before the Leyland/BMC merger. RGCorris (talk) 17:39, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was just using the information already in the article, which only had a section about British Leyland - although I hadn't realised that "Leyland" was referring to both companies (which would require separate links). I've changed the mention of trucks in the lead section to Leyland Motors (as this includes Scammell). A search of Google Books suggests there were other Leyland trucks, but no access to the text. Why have you said that there is no evidence of sock puppetry there? I have clarified exactly how I mean they used these IPs to avoid scrutiny in a later comment in the section below. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:35, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see anywhere that the anonymous user has denied being the registered user - the "no" seems to be in response to a request to log in. The account has no recent edits so checkuser is unlikely to provide any additional information, and although the editing is disruptive, it isn't sock puppetry that is the problem (unless there are other IPs or accounts involved). If assistance is needed, discussion should probably be at one of the noticeboards. Peter E. James (talk) 16:57, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Triage engagement strategy released[edit]

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 02:38, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Triage newsletter[edit]

Hey guys!

Thanks to all of you who have commented on the New Page Triage talkpage. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out; we're discussing some pretty interesting ideas, both from the Foundation and the community, and moving towards implementing quite a few of them :).

In addition, on Tuesday 13th March, we're holding an office hours session in #wikimedia-office on IRC at 19:00 UTC (11am Pacific time). If you can make it, please do; we'll have a lot of stuff to show you and talk about, including (hopefully) a timetable of when we're planning to do what. If you can't come, for whatever reason, let me know on my talkpage and I'm happy to send you the logs so you can get an idea of what happened :). Regards, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:53, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Triage newsletter[edit]

Hey all!

Thanks to everyone who attended our first office hours session; the logs can be found here, if you missed it, and we should be holding a second one on Thursday, 22 March 2012 at 18:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office. I hope to see you all there :).

In the meantime, I have greatly expanded the details available at Wikipedia:New Page Triage: there's a lot more info about precisely what we're planning. If you have ideas, and they aren't listed there, bring them up and I'll pass them on to the developers for consideration in the second sprint. And if you know anyone who might be interested in contributing, send them there too!

Plumpot, Peter Pinkle

Hi, I'm lv123jv456 and I'm just writing an apology message for what I did to a page about the crew members aboard RMS Titanic. I did it because I was annoyed at some people who tried to delete my edits which were right. Please don't block me from editing and tell your wikipedia mates not to delete all my edits. help triage some feedback[edit]

Hey guys.

I appreciate this isn't quite what you signed up for, but I figured as people who are already pretty good at evaluating whether material is useful or not useful through Special:NewPages, you might be interested :). Over the last few months we've been developing the new Article Feedback Tool, which features a free text box. it is imperative that we work out in advance what proportion of feedback is useful or not so we can adjust the design accordingly and not overwhelm you with nonsense.

This is being done through the Feedback Evaluation System (FES), a tool that lets editors run through a stream of comments, selecting their value and viability, so we know what type of design should be promoted or avoided. We're about to start a new round of evaluations, beginning with an office hours session tomorrow at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to help preemptively kill poor feedback, come along to #wikimedia-office and we'll show you how to use the tool. If you can't make it, send me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org or drop a note on my talkpage, and I'm happy to give you a quick walkthrough in a one-on-one session :).

All the best, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:35, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Estmondson family[edit]

Hello Peter, nice catch with that heretofore unknown family of Quality. I wanted to let you know that I nominated them for speedy deletion since they were all written by an author whose talk page seems to indicate that he/she is only interested in writing hoaxes. This seemed to clear the threshold for "obvious" vandalism. Hope you don't mind! Cmprince (talk) 20:27, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A big NPT update[edit]

Hey! Big update on what the developers have been working on, and what is coming up:

coding

  • Fixes for the "moved pages do not show up in Special:NewPages" and "pages created from redirects do not show up in Special:NewPages" bugs have been completed and signed off on. Unfortunately we won't be able to integrate them into the existing version, but they will be worked into the Page Triage interface.
  • Coding has been completed on three elements; the API for displaying metadata about the article in the "list view", the ability to keep the "patrol" button visible if you edit an article before patrolling it, and the automatic removal of deleted pages from the queue. All three are awaiting testing but otherwise complete.

All other elements are either undergoing research, or about to have development started. I appreciate this sounds like we've not got through much work, and truthfully we're a bit disappointed with it as well; we thought we'd be going at a faster pace :(. Unfortunately there seems to be some 24-72 hour bug sweeping the San Francisco office at the moment, and at one time or another we've had several devs out of it. It's kind of messed with workflow.

Stuff to look at

We've got a pair of new mockups to comment on that deal with the filtering mechanism; this is a slightly updated mockup of the list view, and this is what the filtering tab is going to look like. All thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome on the NPT talkpage :). I'd also like to thank the people who came to our last two office hours sessions; the logs will be shortly available here.

I've also just heard that the first functional prototype for enwiki will be deployed mid-April! Really, really stoked to see this happening :). We're finding out if we can stick something up a bit sooner on prototype.wiki or something.

I appreciate there may be questions or suggestions where I've said "I'll find out and get back to you" and then, uh. not ;p. I sincerely apologise for that: things have been a bit hectic at this end over the last few weeks. But if you've got anything I've missed, drop me a line and I'll deal with it! Further questions or issues to the usual address. Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 17:09, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages update[edit]

Hey Peter James/Archive 1 :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on.

On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :).

On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks! New Page Triage prototype released[edit]

Hey Peter E. James! We've finally finished the NPT prototype and deployed it on enwiki. We'll be holding an office hours session on the 16th at 21:00 in #wikimedia-office to show it off, get feedback and plot future developments - hope to see you there! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 03:35, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Triage/New Pages Feed[edit]

Hey all :). A notification that the prototype for the New Pages Feed is now live on enwiki! We had to briefly take it down after an unfortunate bug started showing up, but it's now live and we will continue developing it on-site.

The page can be found at Special:NewPagesFeed. Please, please, please test it and tell us what you think! Note that as a prototype it will inevitably have bugs - if you find one not already mentioned at the talkpage, bring it up and I'm happy to carry it through to the devs. The same is true of any additions you can think of to the software, or any questions you might have - let me know and I'll respond.

Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 13:20, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some baklava for you![edit]

Thanks for correcting the page as I wasn't sure how to manage that as I came across the name without the middle initial and didn't know how to reconcile it. Incidentally is there any way to remove the middle initial? Truealpha (talk) 20:34, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - although now I've looked again I noticed a typo in the redirect I created. If you think that the move is unlikely to be opposed, you can use the "move" tab - probably at the top of the page, if not then search for "move" in the page. Otherwise there is a template that can be used on the article's talk page - see Template:Requested move for instructions. Peter E. James (talk) 20:43, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again for clarifying, I shall research that prior to doing anything on it. Just to clarify when you said there is a typo in the redirect -- is there anything I need to rectify now or it is ok? Truealpha (talk) 21:14, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to do anything with the redirect, although a redirect will be needed if the article is not moved. Is the redirect I created, with "Basir" instead of "Bashir", likely to be useful or should I tag it for deletion? Peter E. James (talk) 21:19, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The only variation that I see via research is Bashir Tahir so "Basir" wouldn't be the same person. To be honest I actually don't even know where you have created that redirect (it should now be obvious I am relatively new to this!) -- is it on the same page? -- I guess one solution would be to correct it for the right spelling? Truealpha (talk) 21:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, the redirect is a separate page - see Basir Tahir (link without redirect) and Bashir Tahir (link without redirect) - an explanation is at Wikipedia:Redirect. I've created it with the correct spelling and tagged the incorrect one for deletion. Peter E. James (talk) 21:38, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great thank you and appreciate the help. That's a more elegant solution to simply redirect "Bashir Tahir" than the method I used. Enjoy the baklava! :) Truealpha (talk) 21:44, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uranium[edit]

Please reconsider your deletion, Rosie and I have moved it to Uranium mining in Namibia and removed most of the essay. Best solution would now be to delete the capital letter original title and close AFD.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:12, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reinstating edits by a banned user[edit]

You appear to be reinstating edits made by a banned user at Louis Finson, Catherine Trianon and Romani (adventurer), without giving any explanation in the edit summary or at the relevant article talk pages. It is always preferable to give an explanation of your edits, and in this case it would be particularly desirable to acknowledge explicitly that you are reinstating a banned user's edits and that, in accordance with Wikipedia:Banning policy you take complete responsibility for their contents. New Pages newsletter[edit]

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Both will be in #wikimedia-office as always. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 15:42, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Genuity[edit]

The article Genuity has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Death of Azaria Chamberlain[edit]

There was a very lengthy discussion over the inclusion of that redirect to the fictitious band "Dingoes ate my baby". The issues concerned that appropriateness of the inclusion of a reference to black humour in relation to an article dealing with a tragic incident involving living people. The Wikipedia policy is to avoid victimisation of living people. In this. However the name of a fictitious band was deemed as being not of sufficient importance that Wikipedia should seriously risk further insult or injury to the parents of the dead child by including it as a redirect right at the top of the article.

There are a number of cultural reference to the death of Azaria Chamberlain included at the foot of the article.

Amandajm (talk) 23:55, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The only consensus I can see is at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 June 14 and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dingoes ate my baby (disambiguation), which seem to leave the incident page as the only place for any disambiguation links. I've changed the redirect to a soft redirect, so the disambiguation link can go there instead of at Death of Azaria Chamberlain. Peter James (talk) 21:41, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Roger de Beler, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hugh le Despenser (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Notice of Dispute resolution discussion[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hurricane Kira".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 17:57, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can discuss on the article's talk page, or on the talk page of one of the relevant Wikiprojects. The previous moves have been reverted as lacking discussion, or have been cut and pasted without linking the new title's page history to that of the old title. Template:Requested move can be used. St Mary and Bodfan and St David's Church, Barmouth[edit]

Has there been any progress on the status of the St Mary and Bodfan and St David's Church, Barmouth articles? Are they being deleted? If you like, I could edit them and get try to get them look presentable Pjposullivan (talk) 09:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on The Beards requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:00, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think there isn't enough information to warrant a standalone section - Wikipedia ain't indiscriminate. If you can provide some information about it great, if not don't bother adding to the list page.--Launchballer 23:40, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree a separate article isn't needed, and maybe couldn't be supported by reliable sources, but it would be suitable for a mention in the list - records by Leftfield, Grooverider and Bally Sagoo were released on the label - so it's useful to have a mention somewhere, which appears to be possible. Dane Bank[edit]

Hi Peter, I noted your move of the page created by the new editor TheSimsChicago45, which I was confirming on maps. Could you also checkout the other article page he created:- Saltersford, as far as I am aware there is no Hamlet or any other housing at, or near that location. Is is just a road junction where old salt trading routes crossed!, by the site of a historic church Jenkin Chapel. I have also reverted a couple of his other edits, changing village, town, hamlet and settlement description. The style of them and his initial edit on his userpage makes me suspicious that the user is a Sockpuppet of the indef baned disruptive editor Jameslovesavril. Richard Harvey (talk) 17:37, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the similarity in the type of edits, but couldn't see enough evidence to link the accounts or even request an investigation. There are mentions of Saltersford as a hamlet in the 19th century [1][2] but nothing recent - but whether it would still be described as one I don't know. There's also a mention of houses in Saltersford (http://www.rainow.org/TheStoryOfRainowRedux.pdf, page 14) which appears to be self published but is likely to be accurate. It has also been described as a "scattered community", maybe more accurate as the area appears to consist of farms. If it's confirmed that the user is evading a block, I recommend deletion, otherwise I'm neutral for now, but maybe it could redirect to Rainow and be mentioned there. Peter James (talk) 18:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked again and noticed this edit on a sockpuppet's user page, so it's likely to be the same user. User:AvrilLavigne63935 appears to be unrelated, the account was created (and blocked) in 2010 and the edits are not similar - is there evidence somewhere linking them? Peter James (talk) 18:49, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That message, editing his Dunford Bridge location to Dane Bank also ties in with his Jameslovesavril editors summary on this edit to the Dunford Bridge article. I've removed the sock tag from User:AvrilLavigne63935; however I've been observing the edits by TheSimsChicago45 and have increasingly formed an opinion that he is is another Sockpuppet of Jameslovesavril. This has just become more plain with his edit today in reverting my removal of his edit by one of his other known Sockpuppets:- AvrilParamore27 on the Giggleswick railway station article. I think The duck test is proven. Richard Harvey (talk) 20:56, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Giggleswick edit can stay - it's only an addition to the lead section of a fact that's already in the article. Other edits appear to be in good faith but often unsourced and occasionally inaccurate. The pattern of editing that the user was originally blocked for seems to have stopped, but some edits on Settle Rural District (an article started by TheSimsChicago45) have been disruptive. Do you suggest a sockpuppet investigation (which would probably result in the account being blocked and a new one created) or just continuing to check for disruptive edits? Peter James (talk) 23:51, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I spotted he had started with his disruptive editing again. The style and type of editing was unmistakable. I opened an SPI and it has resulted in an indefinite block. Keep your eye open for another new editor with the same style on his usual articles. His current known socks are listed here:- Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Jameslovesavril. -Richard Harvey (talk) 20:12, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IRAN demographics[edit]

Hello I have found two maps while searching for "valid" sources for Wikipedia. I have the website of origin for these maps, but how can I know if you accept them??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.160.118.146 (talk) 21:27, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can ask for editors' opinions at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard; if you intend to upload anything as well as citing it, it's only allowed if there's a suitable licence at the source, or if permission is given by the owner of the site. If this is about Urmia, it looks like there has been a dispute there for a few years that has never been resolved, and I would advise you to also use the article's talk page as editors have already received 24-hour blocks for contributing one revert (or partial revert) to the edit war - I'm surprised that the article hasn't already been fully protected. Glasgow Citybus[edit]

Do you have a source for the changes made here regarding Glasgow Citybus and Henderson Travel? The only thing I could find was http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:298109-2013:TEXT:EN:HTML (and copies of it) saying that Henderson Travel was surrendering its licence and that its contracts were being taken over by Glasgow Citybus. Peter James (talk) 13:41, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The statement re the sale was made by (User:92.40.249.176) on 5 September. Have requested a cite, but as 6 weeks later still can't find any reference, have my doubts. Seeing the date is the same as your link, suspect someone has got their wires crossed. Will give it 72 hours and if cite not forthcoming will reverse.Mo7838 (talk) 14:00, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

92.40.249.176 added: "It was announced on the 3rd of September that Glasgow Citybus has taken over Henderson Travel." You changed it to "In September 2013 the business was sold to Henderson Travel." Peter James (talk) 14:12, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sailing on the Seven Seas[edit]

Is the date of 18 March correct? It was added by a vandal adding wrong or unsourced dates to a great number of articles, over several addresses. It might well just be made up. Jamesx12345 16:32, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's correct according to https://web.archive.org/web/20090918031602/http://www.omd.uk.com/discography/html/index_87_91.html - I can't find a singles discography on the current version of their site. It looks like the anonymous editor is assuming that records (albums or singles) were released 12 days before the first chart entry, which is usually correct (a record released on Monday enters the chart on Sunday dated the following Saturday), but not if they have entered the chart later than the first week of release or were not released on a Monday. It's probably not vandalism, but original research that's sometimes wrong. Peter James (talk) 16:43, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've checked the changes to OMD release dates and the editor made more errors there than corrections if the official site is correct; however, it would be better if we could check with other sources such as at the time of release (particularly for "La Femme Accident"). Peter James (talk) 17:34, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's a difficult one because they do not respond when blocked, switching to a different I.P. to continue as before. I have no idea what to make of it, to be honest. Thanks anyway for looking into it. Regards. Jamesx12345 18:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Protected userpages[edit]

Peter, it is not clear to me why you feel that I should modify the protection levels of my pages; you might care to explain your reasoning? FYI, my talk page is open to every autoconfirmed user; my userpage is admin-only, which is wholly reasonable as no other editor should need to edit there, and vandals, if allowed, have a habit of attacking the userpages of the more active vandal-fighting admins - which I happen to be. So no, I will not change the protection levels. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 12:14, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are, I think, confusing user pages with talk pages. There is never a reason for a user to edit my user page. Any established user can edit my talk page. Re-read the link you posted - it deals with talk pages only. I do not mean to give offence, but please check your facts before criticizing users of many years experience.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:40, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Having established that, did you actually have anything you wanted to ask me? If so, go to my talk page where you are free to edit! --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:45, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally, because of your persistence I have looked back through my talk page, and have received 65 postings there since I removed the semi-protection including some from new editors, plus three from you. So what is your problem?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:22, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd arrived at your user page and noticed that it was protected, surprising considering your addition of a comment on another user's page, but then noticed the reason, which no longer applied, and the semi-protection on your talk page. I had assumed it was just something you had forgotten about when you returned, and that you would just remove it, and maybe semi-protect your user page; I don't believe that the current talk page protection is justified. Some messages that wouldn't have been possible with semi-protection and are not vandalism:[3][4]. I didn't mention a wikibreak template, only the "wikibreak" that was in the protection message (visible when editing the page from an autoconfirmed account with no additional rights). Further regarding The Banner's deletion of user page review[edit]

It's inappropriate to continue using a closed review for discussion.

I recognise that we can't always keep up with our intentions and it's all too easy to let too much time slip before we return to an issue. Unfortunately, you miscalculated its being "an obvious keep" (sic) and failed to comment until 7 November, while the request had been submitted 24 October.

Considering that he/she has the option of appealing the finding via WP:DELREV, is it some sort of life and death issue? Should an appeal be lodged and find in favour of the user, the contents would be reinstated or allow him/her to replicate it on another 'noindex' page. That stated, would you consider that The Banner's response - mirroring the entire deletion review and referring to it as a 'gag order' on the deleted workpage (which was being watched after other contributors spotted it on the RfC page) - to have been justifiable and reasonable? --Iryna Harpy (talk) 03:11, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maths is wrong?[edit]

Hello, please forgive me as I am using a public library here so cannot login to my regular account. I was patrolling this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mark_Pearson_%28entrepreneur%29 and note you state the consensus was undecided. Is there some sort of weighted voting here, as I see 4 deletes and 2 keeps? Kindly extrapolate! Thanks. 90.214.192.15 (talk) 18:54, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I only stated a reason for keeping the article, I didn't mention anything about consensus. The statement that there was no consensus was made by Mark Arsten, who closed the discussion after relisting; SarahStierch had also relisted the discussion after the same number of deletes and one fewer keep. No consensus usually means keeping the article (with some exceptions, such as if the subject of the article requests deletion). You could take it to deletion review, but to me this looks like a reasonable closure: the discussion is not a vote, and some arguments for deletion were weak (or in one case, non-existent) and didn't address the arguments against deletion, so were probably given less weight. Thank you for the oppose on my ban[edit]

I just wanted to stop by and thank you for the oppose on my ban. I appreciate it. I'm also sorry I am posting from this username. Unfortunately the admins have preemptively blocked the IP's I was using in an effort to force me to create an account, so they could then be able to justify blocking me for socking (I really hate it how they are allowed to bait the trap like this) I had to create one for now. Cheers and happy editing. Kumioko BannedEditor (talk) 16:22, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Starwars35[edit]

It's a quirk of doing things at UAA. The bot had picked it up thinking that the "ars3" might be a way of hiding "arse". Obviously it wasn't intended that way, but the only option from UAA for blocking as a VOA defaults to {{uw-vaublock}} as the blocking template.

Does it really make a difference? Wikipedia's better off without them as they currently are. Daniel Case (talk) 02:05, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey Peter, thanks for the reverts; careless of me. I've added those articles with proper "RTE"s to the bot's exception list so it won't happen again. Sorry for the inconvenience CmdrObot (talk) 23:25, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There were also Low-floor tram (where it refers to a Turkish tram), Vivekananda Vidya Mandir (the RTE act again), and 9th Engineer Battalion (United States) (possibly abbreviation of "Route"). Fatboy Slim is a redirect?? How on on earth can that be? Who has ever heard of Norman Cook? Could there be a clearer case of wp:stagename? Is there some kind of of special story one should be aware of as to why the situation is in this state? walk victor falk talk 16:18, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - he was notable (although primarily as a member of various groups) before Fatboy Slim. The article was moved in 2009. Peter James (talk) 08:19, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that sounds more reasonable. Many cases are ambiguous, where an artist's real name is not utterly unknown, but neither widely known. walk victor falk talk 03:56, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Astor and the protection of my talk page[edit]

  • Since no named sources confirm the affair in that archived Times article, I'd still consider it off-limits for us. If either one of them did, or it became the subject of a court proceeding, that would be different.
  • I leave my talk page semi-protected because I regularly do vandalism enforcement. This in the past often led to retaliatory vandalism of both my user and talk pages (I still have a couple of userboxes bragging about this). I just decided to spare other admins (and users, FTM) the trouble of reverting it. Daniel Case (talk) 22:38, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From the list at Wikipedia:Pending changes#Timeline the most recent is Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2013 (62% support) closed without reaching consensus primarily because the circumstances in which PC2 would be used weren't clear enough. If you regard that as an earlier stage of the 2014 RFC, Wikipedia:PC2012/RfC 1 (55% support) was the most recent, so unless you're referring to an earlier discussion, or one not clearly linked from the timeline, there was not a previous consensus. It looks like a an RFC on a specific use, with "oppose", "support" or "neutral" options, could reach a clearer consensus, rather than the multiple questions and disputes over implicit and contradictory positions that affected the 2014 RFC. Your revert of my entry in VFD[edit]

Hi, concerning your edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=VFD&oldid=prev&diff=609948330

I realize that now the "disambig" macro says

This disambiguation page lists articles associated with the same title.

and you deleted my entry because it would not refer to a specific page (although there were several links to pages talking about "VFD" in that sense).

Now I think in former times, a disambiguation page also often contained small "stand alone" definitions which would not justify a page on their own. Picking a random example, Passion features many entries (e.g., songs) where only a link to the band or composer of the song is found. Not so much different of the entry I added, IMHO. — MFH:Talk 03:49, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Entries such as the songs in the Passion disambiguation page should link to articles in which the titles are mentioned according to the guideline; the only article linked in the VFD entry was to initialism, which doesn't mention that initialism, and I thought that it was unlikely to be added there or created as an article. According to WP:Disambiguation guideline, "Disambiguation in Wikipedia is the process of resolving the conflicts that arise when a single term is ambiguous—when it refers to more than one topic covered by Wikipedia" - a search for the relevant words from the VFD definition in articles only produces one result, the VFD disambiguation page. If a mention is added to an article, an entry can then be added to the disambiguation page. Peter James (talk) 07:59, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re closing of Mitchells & Butlers' Ground[edit]

Peter, when you execute a move that is listed at WP:RM you should properly close the RM per the instructions at WP:RMCI. Failing to do so leaves the RM open in backlog and its confusing for regular closers to find RMs that don't need any attention. If you need assistance in the future, please contact an admin to help. RE: Hernando de Soto

Peter, I placed an answer to your question on my Talk page, but I wanted to answer you here as well. There is a standing request for comment on the Hernando de Soto Talk page which outlines the serious issues with the so-called "White Ranch" site, including the possibility that site represents a hoax. The two users calling themselves "LisaWalsh" and "DalvarMartinez" have been asked repeatedly to address those issues and have repeatedly refused to do so. Accordingly, the edits were reverted until those questions have been addressed, particularly since Boyer has published a peer-reviewed paper on the work at the Richardson site.Veritas20132014 (talk) 01:51, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

your revert about VFD[edit]

Hi, concerning https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=VFD&oldid=prev&diff=609948330 : You seem to say that disambiguation pages should not list self-contained definitions but only links to existing pages. I don't agree and I think on the contrary often those pages list self-contained definitions, and this is very valuable content of WP. Am I wrong? Can you point to a guideline page that confirms your argument? Thanks! (PS: I also think it's wrong when you say (1) no link to a relevant article: WP:VFD is a relevant article, and also when you say "it's unlikely that such a page will be created" [since it already does exist ; and also, since google finds 53 000 hits for the exact phrase "vote for deletion"].) — MFH:Talk 13:35, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shorten article[edit]

Hi User:Peter James, on Maiorana, should "of" be added where it says: "dialectic term for a type [(of)] oregano"?
It won't let me make edits to the Maiorana page, but this might be a mistakes, also the article has some questionable sources and needs shortening, let me know please, cheers.--Theo Mandela (talk) 23:15, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - I've also changed it to "dialectal" which I think was the correct word, and removed a name that required a reference (the linked article has some but they seem to be unavailable - all "not found" or redirects to the sites' home pages). There may be more changes needed, but you should be able to edit the article, unless there was a temporary error or an external link was blocked by a blacklist - it isn't protected and I can't see anything in the edit filter log. Peter James (talk) 23:40, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks User:Peter James, I've tried since you edited, but still can't edit Maiorana? I noticed Macdonald surname could do with some work, infobox should be removed and it's info added to article (like Maiorana), also it calls the name Irish a lot when really it's Gaelic Scottish (and perhaps Ulster Northern Irish), I can edit, but a bit busy with new music articles at moment, like "Feels" - Calvin Harris and "Instruction" - Jax Jones.--Theo Mandela (talk) 17:49, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article is not protected, what happens when you go to edit it? Peter James (talk) 17:33, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Peter James, it won't let me click or type words in, I think I could edit if I wasn't logged in, but then it wouldn't show under my name. You've made it good so no need for me to add anything now, just the fact I can't even if I wanted to. What do you think of Macdonald, should Irish be removed as origin? Thanks, --Theo Mandela (talk) 23:00, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It should be possible to edit, if not you could ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). I agree about Macdonald - it seems to be primarily a Scottish name according to the sources, which isn't clear from the article. If unsure you could use the article's talk page or the talk page of any WikiProject linked there (in this case, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anthroponymy). Peter James (talk) 22:48, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Peter James, here [5] that gives Patrick Hanks as a reference which is good and has Scottish as the only origin but that in Ireland it "derived most often from Scottish settlers who arrived in to the Province of Ulster in the seventeenth century", if you can show me how to phrase it here please, I'll add it to article.--Theo Mandela (talk) 06:35, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

July 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Moxy (talk) 22:56, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The dispute was about whether Riley should be redirected to O'Reilly. Obviously it shouldn't as it isn't only a version of the Irish name. It looks like the other editor is the same person who removed the English version before. Peter James (talk) 20:20, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

At User talk:Belmop, you stated that Wikiprofessionals said Belmop wasn't one of their accounts. I'm not seeing where it is they said that; would you be able to point that out? Seraphimblade Talk to me 19:25, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Diffs for usernames (also mentioning HappyKatsu): [7][8]. List of articles [9] - the list originally included many created by established editors including at least one (Hornblower & Marshall) where they are unlikely to have been involved. Peter James (talk) 21:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. Yeah, that's part of the general difficulty in tracking down paid sock/spammer rings. Belmop hasn't edited since 2018, so it's possible whoever was spoken to didn't even have a record of them doing paid editing. HappyKatsu is more recent. And yes, I suspect given their pattern of unethical behavior in general, they may have claimed to have written some articles they didn't, but in at least several cases the articles they claimed were written by known socks. It's something we'll have to carefully consider as we go through the cleanup. Seraphimblade Talk to me 21:34, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The only "evidence" was from a list of articles, many created by established users (Hornblower & Marshall wasn't the only one) - at COI/N editors just removed those from the list and copied the remaining list to WP:AN. The reply about Belmop was misread and that account was mistakenly identified as the main editor involved - in reality the two accounts blocked were selected randomly from a list that would have initially included many editors who were clearly not involved in this, so it's likely that many of the less active accounts were also not involved (although looking at their edits it's likely that some have a conflict of interest). Because of the lack of certainty the articles should have been taken to AFD if not promotional enough for CSD. Peter James (talk) 21:51, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You were free to argue that at the community discussion. However, consensus there was that those likely to be paid spamming ought to be deleted. I understand your point, but I just closed the discussion based on its result. I did not choose what consensus the community came to. Seraphimblade Talk to me 20:35, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Everybody knows what a singer is[edit]

Restoring this link was entirely unnecessary. Everybody knows what a singer is. If you want to link to a part of the MOS that says contextual links are sometimes and not always beneficial, great, but that part of the MOS also doesn't say anything about linking to terms that are universally understood. Nobody is going to be clicking on a link from Poarch's article to singer, wondering what it is. WP:OVERLINK clearly states that everyday words and common occupations should generally not be linked. Insisting on such links is of no benefit to anybody. Ss112 12:40, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • They are when defining, and "wondering what it is" isn't the only reason to click. If everybody knows what singing is, should the article about it be orphaned or even deleted? Peter James (talk) 12:51, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you suggesting that because an article exists that means we should link to it? You sound like a proponent for a sea of blue. You know as well as I do that encyclopedias define common terms. Those articles are there for further information if somebody wants to directly search for them. If a reader has searched for Poarch, they presumably want to know about her, not click through to learn more about singers. Ss112 12:59, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Links in the lead section that define the topic can be useful there. That's why the overlink guideline includes the words "Unless a term is particularly relevant to the context in the article". Peter James (talk) 13:41, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These sorts of disagreements always come down to some line an editor can point to in a guideline as justifying their actions. You'll find singers who have a far more substantial career than Poarch don't have the term linked on their articles (and before I have WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS cited at me, it's relevant because it shows precedent that most editors don't consider it worthwhile to link to across Wikipedia), so I disagree that it's "particularly relevant" here at all. If Poarch's career goes on and grows in stature, you're going to find more editors disagree with you about linking such a widely understood term. Later. Ss112 14:02, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Electric Brae[edit]

The explanation about the Electric Brae in Scotland is incorrect. The road is clearly steep downhill and this can be checked by a view of the sea. For the Electric Brae to work you must park opposite the RAC box and release the handbrake. The vehicle rolls the wrong way ie. Uphill because at this point the road actually slopes the other way. Because the hill is clearly steeply downhill you have to look carefully to see that,at this precise point there is a slight downward slope. Obviously nothing to do with electricity or magnetism or even a trick of the eye - you just have to look carefully as I did.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a02:c7d:3c13:2a00:ec1b:bee1:df03:2db8 (talk) 10:19, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My only edit there was to add the closing braces of a template. (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Electric_Brae&diff=808079797&oldid=791120147) I've moved this to the article's talk page. Peter James (talk) 15:40, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

From Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2022 February 6[edit]

Are you planning to answer my question about what other accounts you have edited with? Spartaz Humbug! 20:58, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I previously used an account based on my real name, with no entries in the block log, and I have never been subject to any editing restrictions or warnings, or had any user rights revoked. A865 (talk) 22:01, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have you previously edited under any other accounts? SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:13, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I answered above. Also before creating this account there was another used briefly to make edits that, if made from my new account, would make it easier to connect it to my old account (but no overlap with old or new account in pages or chronologically). If checked, another account would be found, but it was an unintentional automatic creation from another wiki and will not be used here. A865 (talk) 23:09, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. So I am understand that this new account is your main account going forward. It is quite understandable that you might want to continue anonymously. I am not wanting to connect breadcrumbs or anything like that, but have we crossed paths in projectspace previously? SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:40, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
