(From Tlim7882)

You're good. You keep beating me to reverting articles that have been vandalized, such as John Dalton. Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your anti-vandalism efforts, and I want to encourage you to keep up the good work!. Thanks, Tlim7882 01:57, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I, Tlim7882, award you this Barnstar of Revision for being consistently faster at removing vandalism than I am. Keep up the good work. Congratulations! --Tlim7882 03:26, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

"He has been widely criticized for his gross incompetance during the political and humanitarian disaster that the Iraq war has quickly become. Most embarassingly for the Bush administration, Major General Paul D. Eaton, Major General John Batiste, Lieutenant General Gregory Newbold, General Anthony C. Zinni, Major General John Riggs and Major General Charles H Swanneck have all publically demanded his resignation from office."

This is all true, even from a neutral point of view.

Even the Bush administration has admitted that a change of strategy is needed in Iraq, and the whole global community agrees that it is a humanitarian disaster (600,000+ Iraqis dead) and a political one (the Republicans have not been more unpopular since Nixon and the Watergate scandal). Since Rumsfeld is secretary for defense, he is chiefly responsible for this. As for the list of generals who demanded his resignation, there is not even room for discussion here. It was reported by every major media group and is not a matter of opinion.

  • Thank you for signing my talk page this time. I prefer this kind of discussion here.
Response: Your statements about the matter are presented way more intelligently this time. Your views do have backing but you must realize it has nill place on an NPOV (Neutral Point of View) encyclopedia website. Next time rather than editing the article search for places of discussion on Google where you can state your views without consequences in an open forum. ¤~Persian Poet Gal 20:38, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

You fail to realise that what annoyed me in the first place was that you decribed my contribution as "vandalism". If you had just put "biased" or swomething I would not have thought you to be some kind of retard and would not have bothered chasing it up.

Hello,

I'm really sorry about that...I was only accurately stating what Tony Montana said during that scene in question. I didn't realize that this was vandalism...forgive me :(—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.156.99.105 (talkcontribs) .

Protecting Saddam Hussein

Just to let you know, adding {{sprotected}} or {{protected}} to a page is only a means for an admin to notify users that a page is protected. This does not actually confer protection to the article, such as with the notice you placed on Saddam Hussein. If you need help protecting a page, please contact an admin or request it. Thanks! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for letting me know, I just recently have become more active and am trying to help along in the small ways I can :).¤~Persian Poet Gal 22:18, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I've noticed you on RC patrol, and thanks for helping out! Feel free to contact me if you find yourself in a situation needing another pair of eyes or if you run into a crafty vandal or whatnot. And sorry about not observing the format of your talk page – I just used the "+" button blindly (not to mention the implications of a message subject like "Protecting Saddam Hussein", in retrospect, which should probably be changed in the code of the template I used for that, which is {{noprotection}}). Thanks again and happy editing! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:24, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the bugs, but here's just one more thing: would you please consider adding "subst:" to the beginnings of your templates? It's a warnings standard here that saves server bandwidth and processing power. I wasn't sure if you were aware of that function or not; WP:UTM is another cool page for patrollers to check out if you're interested and haven't seen it before.

That's my last message for now. Keep up the good work! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:43, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Yet again you provided me with another kernal of knowledge, thanks :).¤~Persian Poet Gal 00:36, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalizer Seems To Quit to No Avail

A vandalizer has consistently attacked both my user page and left comments on my talk page since last night. They had spoofed my account twice. Luna was monitoring it last night but they sneaked in another episode while I and Luna were gone, take a look at the history. I appreciate any help thank you. ¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 15:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

He he, welcome to being a vandal fighter, Persian. My user page has been vandalized 25 times, and would have been more if it weren't sprotected. That's in the space of less than 2 months. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 17:33, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Which club? Do you mean this club? Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 17:37, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Well those that patrol and end up getting their pages vandalized, that club :P. Thanks for the cheerful words, they gave me quite a chuckle.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Try an RCP tool?

Just wondering: have you considered using an automated tool for vandalism patrol? I'd say you have a good enough track record and more than enough edits to successfully apply to use one. You might like it, as it does make vandalism patrol quite a bit easier. One caveat, and then a tip: you probably won't be able to use {{Vandal-Warn}} automatically. Still, programs like (and most popularly) VandalProof are somewhat standard for frequent recent changes patrollers because they make it a lot less painful to do for extended periods. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:57, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Why thanks for the suggestion. I had not pursued it yet because I did not think myself qualified enough to use them yet :). I will consider applying to use Vandal Proof.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:59, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Blocked vandal

Your pesky IP out of Canberra has been blocked for a week. If the little noodge comes back after that time and starts in again, I've got your back. I'll block him again for much longer. It hadn't occured to me that the "user name" was a variation on your own or I would have blocked him rather than just warned him. Thanks for looking to me for help. I appreciate it greatly.  :) Best, Lucky 6.9 19:19, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

That wasn't vandalism! We really *don't* respect them ;)

Yes, the subject is a joke. I'd like to ask you to pretty-pretty-please un-revert a change to the TSC article on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tech_Support_Comedy&diff=next&oldid=86824358). The edit in question was *not* vandalism, it was meant to clarify the fact that the term "starfish" is used exclusively to refer to the annoying and the stupid and *not* to end-users in general. Also, as a matter of personal taste, I do believe that the sentence reads rather better when started with, "The dullest of end users," rather than just, "End users." Thanks in advance (or if you're going to disagree with me here then, uh, go in peace, I guess.) 82.69.51.59 00:08, 10 November 2006 (UTC) Richard B

Digital Opportunity Index (DOI) AfD

The "non-notable business" that you thought was behind the Digital Opportunity Index (DOI) article turns out to be the International Telecommunications Union, an agency of the UN, which is both notable and not a business. I invite you to reconsider your vote. cheers --Xtifr tälk 11:30, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I won't say anything else on the matter, as I've said my piece on the barnstar page, and I would every much like to stop saying my piece there, because its distracting from actual discussion on the barnstar, but I hope you can understand that when someone falsely accuses me of being irrational, biased, and taking criticism of the barnstar personally, I feel obliged to defend myself. Could you possibly have a few words with Badbilltucker and persuade him to stop harrassing me on the page? Its doing neither of us, and certainly not the proposal, any good. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 20:28, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Yeah I figured that might have upset you. I understand that you feel you should act on it but really let Badbilltucker say his piece, he might feel offended if I accuse him of harrassing as he has accused you. I believe that the whole group of you in the LGBT barnstar discussion have good intentions. People are just a bit brash in expressing them is all. As I said, give it some time to mature on the page.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:37, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Mehmet Öz

Hi PPG, thanks again for the barnstar. I was taking a peak at some of your contributions, and noticed Mehmet Öz. I'm familiar with Michael Roizen, who cowrote some books with Oz. When I checked to see if there was an article about Roizen, I noticed that there is a duplicate article about Mehmet Öz at Mehmet Öz. I'm thinking that your contributions should be merged to that article (since titles such as "Doctor" aren't typically included in an article title (see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Academic_titles), though it is common to have a title lik Dr. Mehmet Oz redirect to the main article. Once again, keep up the great work! OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:01, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for reminding me about that! I meant to tag the article that the poster brought up. I will add a merge tag to the one I created.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Just a small heads-up. With a heavily vandalized article (which November 22 will be today), it's a good idea to check for multiple vandalisms, like this. Two IPs vandalized it a few minutes apart, so the revert only removed one of them. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 18:33, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Lol, I thought I caught most of it. I see I missed an edit that added "pwnz0red". Sure, I'll screen the edit history more closely to make sure that future reverts remove all of the nonsense.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 18:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Heya, I saw you added the {{db-nonsense}} tag to the above articles (beat me to it!), but didn't seem to warn the users about it. When patrolling newly created pages, please always remember to place an appropriate warning tag on the creator's talk page when it's clear that they are a new user; optionally, you can also add {{welcome}} to soften the blow.

The reason for this is simply that many speedy-able new pages are created by people experimenting with Wikipedia, so finding their creation tagged for speedy deletion or simply gone can be a nasty introduction to the website. To avoid implicitly biting the newbies, its best to first welcome them, and then explain that they shouldn't create useless pages using a tag like {{Test1article}}. I hope you agree with me on this. :)

Cheers, Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 22:32, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Sure, I usually always use the t-templates when on vandal patrol. I will also start using them for the new page edits. Thanks for the advice.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Designing a Barnstar

I just wanted to ask, is there a programme for designing Barnstars? The one i have used for the Discussion Award was using Publisher and Paint. I was referered to you by KP Botany btw. Simply south 22:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I personally am a big fan of good old Adobe Photoshop. I use Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite however, any standard version of the program should give you enough to work with. Unfortunately there is no official program built for designing barnstars :P and lack of a good photoeditor hinders some of the freedom you can create with the design. If you type photoshop tutorials on Google you can get some pretty good advice on certain techniques that can make a constructive design. Try to construct a good concept first. Once you have a good idea you have more to work from. For example with the Wildlife Barnstar I first thought up various animal prints to use. Then from there I made the star look less "cut and paste" by making the prints beveled and added a transparent beveled spoke in the middle. Mixing and matching these techniques adds a bit more realism to your star. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:07, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Do you think my design is any good?

Barnstar design (trial stage perhaps but not sure)

Simply south 10:57, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I think its a start, but rather than a phone representing Wikipedia discussion how about a talk bubble or a head that's speaking next to the star?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 16:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I think i'll keep it but put another design up as well. So sort of like you suggested. Simply south

I've tried a second design and loaded it but now i think it look worse.

2nd try

. Simply south 17:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes the first one is still a better design. Why not go a bit more simplistic if you are going to use the talking head idea, such as a silhouette?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Okay, i've gone back to the first suggestion but based it a little bit more on other barnstars of similar design. I hope i am being more realistic.

Also, sorry to clutter your talk page with images.

3rd try, hopefully better

Do you think this one is better? Simply south 16:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes, that design looks way better than your second try. I think the only thing that needs work is maybe changing some of the colors around. However at this point I think its safe to post that design yourself on the proposal page and begin to get the opinions of others. Its always better to design it to cohere with more than one opinion ;).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:56, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dr. Oz.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dr. Oz.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Why don't you take notice of other people comments?

I’ve noticed you’ve received a number of comments for new but well-intentioned users, why don't you listen to them instead of abusing your powers by reverting on every little whim. Couldn’t you simply keep what they have said? It’s people like you who help vandals by choosing to keep only a few opinions and views present in the wikipedia.—Preceding unsigned comment added by JEENSK (talkcontribs)

  • If you read Wikipedia policy you will notice a line that says No personal attacks. In that policy it is said that it is considered acceptable to remove personal attacks. Promoting people to leave constructive comments on talk pages is actually way more productive than to allow them to continue to harass users. And also, I would appreciate if you had actually left your comment with your own account other than a one-use-only-account. However, one thing I admire is that you presented your views very respectfully. As you see I have not deleted your comment because it was constructive and not a personal attack.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 03:27, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal, I wish to inquire why you construe User:Andrew Winston's page as a form of vandalism. I do not see why he should be blocked or threatened to be blocked as a user. He has as much right as any person to use wikipedia, and his page is virtually unknown. But i think it would be good for you to get into contact with him and advise him on what to do.

From, Disgruntled user—Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew Winston (talkcontribs)

  • I was unaware that your IP address was making edits. The kind of content you were adding at first seemed very much attacking the page. I revert personal attacks to user pages quite often. Looking at the edit history I realize that your IP often edits your page. Just realize that I was mostly looking out to protect your page.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal, Thank you for your understanding. I would like to know if I continue editing user:andrew winston, will i be blocked for it? • I am not an administrator myself, I'm pretty much a Recent Changes Patroller, I watch out for vandalism. As far as being blocked, I cannot say. If other users feel your edits appear as vandalism they might report it themselves to administrators. The XAMM logo entry shouldn't be reverted—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.196.247.193 (talkcontribs)

  • First off, adding the creation of a logo to an article about November 28 is not considered an important enough event to add. Second, its ghits do not indicate a notable resource.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 07:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • No problem, as long as your following edits are productive there is nothing to worry about.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 07:46, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Nonsense article...

I dunno, that looks like pretty serious academic stuff. You should read over WP:DELETE and consider {{prod}} or the AfD process.

...okay, so it's totally deleted. Cheers! Luna Santin 08:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes I'm so uninformed with today's hotbead of academia and serious knowledge :P, thanks Luna. When a nonsense article remains still up after 20 minutes or so it seems like a tad long. Once again, thanks!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 08:58, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Manson Iowa article vandalism

I see the article for Manson, Iowa is vandalized again but you have been keeping after it. As I am a newbie to Wikipedia I didn't know whether I should alert a more experienced user or just deal with it myself. If it's the same person they probably need a ban. Ethbin 15:08, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for keeping watch, you can always revert vandalism if you ever see it with a few simple steps (check my "How to Guide to Wikipedia" on my user page ;)). If the same vandals continue to attack the article then I'm sure an admin will take care of it. I'll keep tabs on the article for awhile and if the vandalism continues I'll request semi-protection for it, that should help quite a bit.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 16:14, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
