Faya-Largeau[edit]

Hi Paul, I've reverted your edits at Faya-Largeau because you replaced referenced text with your own unreferenced, opinionated thoughts about the climate (for example your use of the words "extreme" and "probably"). I've noticed you've made other similar edits to Wikipedia articles. In general, Wikipedia tries to follow a neutral point of view (which means that articles should not contain opinions), and all statements on the site should be referenced to reliable sources (see Help:Referencing for beginners for information about how to do that. I know that meteorology and eather records are exciting, but in Wikipedia we care more about the facts than people's opinions about them. Graham87 15:13, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link. I can't read the text, because as it says on my user page, I'm blind; I also don't know any French. However my main concern with that source is its age; as you probably know, quality control has become more strict since then, and the data in that source may include erroneous temperature records (more of a concern for extremes than averages). If you wanted to cite it you could use the {{cite journal}} template and write something like {{cite journal|title= Le Borkou. Aspects d'un modèle éolien|journal= Annales de Géographie|year=1968|first=Monique|last=Mainguet|volume=77|issue=421|pages=296–322|url=http://www.persee.fr/web/revues/home/prescript/article/geo_0003-4010_1968_num_77_421_15662}}. For the blacklisted link, enclose it in nowiki tags like <nowiki>this</nowiki> and I'll check it out. Graham87 09:26, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you remove the Google part of the URL, you get this link: http://people.sca.uqam.ca/~presyn/NotesdeCoursS2611/S2611Sujet6A_01c.3.pdf, which works fine. You can use the {{cite web}} template to fill out that citation to provide a title, authorship info, etc. That file appears to be a set of professor's notes for a university course; it's probably fine as a reference, but a journal article or book would be better, if possible. One thing I forgot to note in my message above is that when a reference is not in English, you should indicate what language it's in. When using {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}, or {{cite book}}, you do this by adding "|language=French" to the end of the citation. Another thing about your edit to the Faya-Largeau article: Wikipedia uses a template, {{convert}}, for measurement conversions including temperatures. For example, the code {{convert|40|°C}} (without the nowiki tags) produces 40 °C (104 °F). Graham87 12:49, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Port Sudan[edit]

Your edits at Port Sudan has been reverted for a couple of reasons. First of all, your edits, similar to the issue with Faya-Largeau that Graham87 has brought one do not adhere to the neutral point of view. You replaced neutral text with highly biased statements such as "with a long, torrid summer" and "very sunny weather". More importantly, you're removing so much crucial information such as sunshine. Why? NOAA is a reliable source unless you have a problem with using it as a source. Normally, English sources are preferred to other languages if both of them provide the same useful info so the NOAA source should be used rather than a French source as some readers may not understand it. If you keep removing data like this in other city articles and replacing neutral statements with biased one, you may be blocked for disruptive editing.
