That one....that was written immediately after recieving that lovely message, so I was angry. Is that an excuse for it, no...could have it been written differently, of course. Should have it been written at all, no. I could have deleted it without an edit summary, but I didn't. That shows you that when him and I come anywhere near each other, it isn't good. Again, not an excuse, just the way it sadly is. - NeutralHomer T:C 06:01, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help on suspected SPA[edit]

Hi OIC - as a trusted admin, I was wondering whether you could check something out for me. I'm a bit suspicious of the user Endarrt. He's appeared in the last few days, and besides creating a userpage, his first edits were to delete swathes of railway information from Sydney railway station pages, including one which was a featured article and over which we've had a great amount of discussion in order to pass it for FA class. I gave him a level 2 warning for vandalism for it. Today he's nominated a whole lot of trackplans for deletion, some of which are worth keeping. His only justification is that everything is "unencyclopedic" and "directory-like". There is no discussion whatsoever, just outright deletion for everything. I'm a bit suspicious as to whether this user is a legitimately new user, or a SPA or sockpuppet used for deletion of material; but I find it highly suspicious that a completely new user would go straight for deletion of Sydney train material without discussion - it seems like an old user who's editing under a new username for the purposes of deletion of material. I'm not sure how I investigate this sort of thing, but I would appreciate some advice first on what to do. Thanks. JRG 02:04, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OIC, I'm not suggesting this is who it is, but you may like to check out Joestella and Endarrt and do a request for checkuser - the former user has already been found out for engaging in sockpuppetry (see User:ChampagneComedy)- given the former's earlier propensity to delete rail information which he thought was not worthy of keeping on Wikipedia and claim to WP:CIVIL if anyone would dare criticise his work, and given the latter's propensity in the past few days to do both of these... you may be able to put 1 and 1 together... St Marks College[edit]

Hi Orderinchaos, thanks for commenting on my talk page about the paragraph I wanted to add to the St Mark's article. I have referenced the paragraph but the main issue is that the major contributors to the article think that the paragraph I have proposed gives the subject undue weight. This is the paragraph I have proposed:

In March 1991, The Advertiser reported student claims of sexual harassment and initiations at the college. It was claimed that male students forced female students to perform domestic tasks and that senior students initiated first year students by urinating and spitting on them. The then acting master of the college, Professor David Nicholas refuted the claims.

The regular editors want to use this paragraph:

In March 1991, The Advertiser reported student claims of sexual harassment and initiations at the college. The then acting master of the college, Professor David Nicholas refuted the claims.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on the issue? Cheers. Username nought 09:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look at it tomorrow evening Perth time. Orderinchaos 15:09, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User warranting warnings[edit]

Kath and Kim[edit]

"Work Choices has been blamed for ruining Christmas, church on Sundays, Father's Day, marriage, Anzac Day and the tourism industry among other things," Joe Hockey said. "It seems oddly fitting that a fictional character's job should join the list.
"I think most viewers are smart enough to enjoy the show for what it is, and understand the difference between fact and fiction. Sunday night's episode of Kath and Kim[1] was about as realistic as the union ads, but much more funny."
"It seems I am not the only woman with a funny voice from the suburbs of Melbourne talking about the hurt Work Choices is causing Australian working families," the Opposition's industrial relations spokeswoman said.[2]

About Wikimania 2008[edit]

Hi, do u rememeber this -- Wikimania 2008 Perth unoffical bid? I'm a wikipedian from Hong Kong, just curious that if you would change the status to official bid or not. Please let me know.Stewart~惡龍 15:20, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply, I merely worried that you guys do not know the latest movement of Wikimania 2008, cos the site of unofficial bid is so detail. Then, I have checked some other user who signed on Perth unofficial bid as a voluteer, half of them are not active anymore. And I do understand that it takes a lot of workload for the local team to take this huge project. Anyway, it's not too late to organize another local team whatever in Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, but the key point is "effort". Stewart~惡龍 05:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for your comments on my talk page which are much appreciated. I think we've all learnt from the experience, and I hope that we can now move on. I am not a fan of school songs at the best of times and, looking at my comments, I can see with hindsight that it was quite preposterous to suggest that we should include the song in every article. In practice it is probably something which would never have happened, but I can see how our intentions were misunderstood. We were rather hoping that other editors, having seen the work on the Lucknow article, might have been inspired to improve the articles on the other schools. In the absence of input from anyone else some content, however trivial or inappropriate, seemed better than none. Your constructive comments on the assessment process have been most welcome. With so few people working on the assessments we've all had to learn as we go along. Some of these school articles are so dire that 'cruft' is the least of our problems! Gregory David Roberts :Chaos can you check out this article ASAP as not sure whats going on with it. Boylo 08:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Most of that article stray's from the subject with no reference to sources. Thats why my last edit was ref improve. Boylo 09:24, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • More has happened with this article. Someone claiming to be Roberts or representing him replaced everything with promotional material after i tried to make corrections. That now has been removed by another Editor and the article has been reverted back to a one line stub and semi-protection placed upon it. Not sure what can be done with the article now, but i suppose its best left as a stub as it dont cause any problems that way. How this article can progress from now on is something that may need to be discussed to save it being reverted once again back to a stub. Boylo 23:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD[edit]

My solution to this mess would have been to fix the lists first then treat as an internal housekeeping matter, but I'm not touching this AfD with a 10 foot pole. :) Orderinchaos 18:57, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately the die is cast so we'll have to see it through to a conclusion. Its annoying because I think a better considered conclusion to each debate would have resulted if each one had been nominated separately. I'm still of the opinion the lists are unencyclopaedic but I'm sure some people are going to !vote to maintain the status quo because the nominations were badly presented. —Moondyne 23:58, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a decent article. Some effort has certainly gone into it. I erred on the side of Start class as I feel the article could do with a splash of images here and there to lighten it up. -- Longhair\talk 14:49, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with Editor[edit]

Hi Chaos ! Not sure what the problem User:SatuSuro has with me, but him getting on my back and critizing my work on Wikipedia isn't making me very happy about contributing here anymore. His remarks and words on my talk page i dont find amusing at all and this has now happened a few times. Also i dont wish to correspond with him via email, as he is always insisting, as i dont remember anything being written about this is how editors are to correspond with each other, as i prefer to keep my email out of Wikipedia. His lastest gripe is with me making 2 Categories, that User:Meredyth requested as there was no awards categories for non fiction. Yet i find that he approves of for example, Categories such as 'Category:Mayors of Badung' which only has one article in it. So i find his remarks to me hypercritical and his words disrespectful. I work on Wikipedia for free giving my own time to try and improve it, and i find negative remarks such as his discouraging. Anyway, if he has a problem with my work, he should let you know, since you Adopted to help me with Wikepedia, as i am not interested in listening to his discouraging remarks or his 'Whatever's and 'Savvy's as I dont find them helpful at all. Regards Boylo 03:18, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note this should have come directly to me- and I am answering it all at boylos talk page - if it doesnt resolve there I will be actually asking a different third party to deal with it. cheers SatuSuro 03:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried to speak to him before about his remarks and get them dismissed by his ' Whatever ! ' so dont find it worthwhile when i get a reply like that. I have never had any problems with any other Editor's here except for him. So if he wishes a third party friend of his to get involved he can forget it, i dont need someone else to defend him, when i can see the manner in his remarks myself. This has made up my mind for me to leave Wikipedia permadently. Thanks for your help, but Wikipedia isnt for me if its like this. Boylo 11:19, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OIC, I was just reading this article, it's pretty bad, I'm not sure I'd be able to fix it, either it would need a lot of work by a talented editor (such as yourself?) or the recent history section should be removed completely and gradually a proper article can emerge, the Beattie Government had its faults, but this write up is concentrating on nothing but negatives and writing them like it was written deliberately in a non-neutral POV. What do you think? WikiTownsvillian 11:06, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll check it out, but right now I'm more interested in history in the making ;) WikiTownsvillian 12:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smile! :)[edit]

Smile a little, smile a little, all along the road;
Every life must have its burden, every heart its load.
Why sit down in gloom and darkness with your grief to sup?
As you drink Fate's bitter tonic, smile across the cup.

Smile upon the troubled pilgrims whom you pass and meet;
Frowns are thorns, and smiles are blossoms, oft for weary feet.
Do not make the way seem harder by a sullen face;
Smile a little, smile a little, brighten up the place.

Smile upon your undone labour; not for one who grieves
O'er his task waits wealth or glory; he who smiles achieves.
Though you meet with loss and sorrow in the passing years,
Smile a little, smile a little... even through your tears!

That was presumptive of me, I would not have thought there was any question. A little thread, here and there, or perhaps ... string? Anyway ... when the impossible creature (above) was discovered, they invented a new sort of punctuation to resemble it. Prior to this, a full stop was all that was needed to end a sentence -period! Hi there,

I wrote most of my points in the, now deleted, mediation page (which means that my plan to simply copy/paste it to the arbitration case is failed) and I'm tired of bickering with these 2,3 users who just won't stop repeating themselves. On top of all that, my grandson is visiting me this week and I don't have much time. I've said everything I wanted on the talk page, I'll see if I can find the time and energy to write a statement in the arbitration case, but no promises. :)

All the best,

Deletion and undeletion[edit]

Regarding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Lake Macquarie 2, I understand that you can do this, BUT have concerns that reliance on it is misplaced. See Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Archiving and Vibber's comments. This was brought up on MfD talk but no one ever really discussed it, so I may be the one misunderstanding. Please let me know.--Doug.(talk contribs) 00:42, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see, part of my concern, which I've raised several times at various places, is that "delete it we can always undelete it later if we need it" is 1) irresponsible based on the statement by Brion Vibber, which I think was this past January, and 2) an argument for archiving by deletion. But maybe I'm all wet and my uninformed interpretation of this has gotten me misunderstood a couple of times. If you care to join in the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Inactive projects your thoughts might be very helpful as we're talking about developing guidelines for disposing of inactive projects through mergers etc.--Doug.(talk contribs) 01:09, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Re the LM MfD - is it possible to simply make this a task force of NSW? --Doug.(talk contribs) 01:14, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should userfy it as a present for WP:TIMDAY.--Doug.(talk contribs) 01:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good stuff, here it's well past time I headed home to my family or at least worked on a trust or something I could bill for. I am serious about userfication, I think it's often the best alternative when there are only a few members, but will probably leave out the TIMDAY part for now.--Doug.(talk contribs) 01:35, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice sought[edit]

Talk:Leanne Clare RE: →Chris Hurley - remove hopelessly POV commentary, how did all this get by without my noticing?

Hi Bec, OIC, VS and CJ (Aussie Admins that I know of); wow Jb3 can go on! I think we have a wikilawyer-in-training, although he/she only seems to ever focus on this one issue.

If you're interested I'd like to know your opinion, the section seemed pretty blatant POV to me, the neutrality of the sources themselves could also be questioned. His analysis is flawed but I think it would be counterproductive for me to get into a whole point by point technical argument for pages and pages, I didn't have the page on my watchlist otherwise I would have been on to this long ago. So your third opinion is sought on how much I should engage/disengage on this issue, or if you might like to come in as a non-involved party. Reminds me of a certain wikilunatic (who OIC knows and was actually ousted by the foundation for breaking the core principles as an administrator) who used to reply to anything in an extremely long-winded manner, to the point where the stewards would just tell him to "use fewer words". Mapit should be used when useful details can be obtained from the links below that would be a hassle to obtain said information from the top right (or wouldn't think to look for it). Coord is used when such information is largely meaningless, for example a rural locality like Congelin, Western Australia. Should be noted that GA gives both min/deg and decimal links if one clicks in, but only the decimal are reliable. Apart from the fact that a minute = 0.017 degrees, the fact that some are obscurely rounded down to the last minute even when there's 50 seconds or more on it introduces a lot of inaccuracy, particularly with the suburb ones.
