not sure why you said that[edit]

I uploaded a page as I noticed that there wasn't a page on magic magazines and I made the effort to put up an impartial post about the various magic magazines including the newest one street magic magazine that has become the only public magazine of this nature and has an actual ISSN, whereas the others that are listed do not. I have no association with them whatsoever, yet these pages were all taken down by you. I simply do not understand that when some of the people listed under "street magic" have NO fame whatsoever in our community and are selfishly promoting themselves, yet they stay on and a link to a recongized magazines does not. I am new here and I wish to follow the rules, but I have to say, it has been an unenjoyable experience thus far. But for the record I have a LOT of knowledge about the magic community, whereas, few here do. I would have thought one would assume that it was in good faith, not the opposite. Would you be wiling to help me do this right? Thanks, TJ StreetMagic2 .

Greetings, please be aware that David York is avoiding his block using IP sockpuppetry as this edit and this revert (to his version) on a David York71 favorite article Islam and slavery demonstrates. This is not the first time he's edited from this IP range as this edit demonstrates (there he was commenting via that range on a 3RR report against himself). (Netscott) 13:47, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the SSP suggestion. Actually obvious sockpuppetry can be treated as such. This is an obvious case given that the IP is in a range that has previously been used by User:DavidYork71 and given that he reverted to his preferred version of Islam and slavery twice as the IP. I'll keep the SSP advice in mind for the future though. Cheers. (Netscott) 15:16, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
DavidYork71 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) continues to utilize IPs for sockpuppeting. His latest IP: 149.135.34.252 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). (Netscott) 07:40, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I added to the report as well. I'm likely going to be motioning for a community ban of this user in the next few days given the increasing amount of problematic editing he is engaged in. (Netscott) 08:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Policy repository[edit]

Answer to one of your points - WP:POLICY is such a directory, and WP:5 is a shorthand link to core fundamentals which descends into the policies. Orderinchaos 06:15, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh. Thank-you for that. Finally. Sure, I haven't taken the time to look for a policy repository per se, but I still hold that it isn't very obvious and accessible to the uninitiated. One of my stronger points on constructive criticism on Wikipedia, is that whenever a policy is cited, especially on AfD discussions that a link is provided. There should be no nonsense of "This article is x, y and even G4" -- and innocent users will have no idea what G4 is because you didn't provide a link. Sure, we probably couldn't force people to give links to all policy that is cited, but in certain situations there should definitely be a notice that encourages it -- such as AfD discussions, Deletion Review discussions, etc.
Anyways, thanks for that. Cheers. Rfwoolf 08:47, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Malber's images[edit]

Hi, just to make sure we aren't wheel-warring, when you (re-)deleted these two images:

were you aware of the thread at WP:ANI#Disruption by User:Malber? I had previously undeleted these because they were bad-faith nominations by Malber, and potentially useful (at least one was still used in an article). In my understanding, G7 requests aren't mandatory if the contents in question are proper useful encyclopedic material, as the creators don't "OWN" them, and Malber was clearly on a POINT spree when nominating these. I probably made a mistake in forgetting to remove the bad-faith speedy tags after undeleting (thought I had fixed them all, but a few seem to have slipped through). Second glance[edit]

Hi Orderinchaos, I've added a fair bit of info to the Palm Island articles this evening and while there is plenty more to go and I'm on a bit of a roll... I'm going blurry eyed, so will leave it for now. I would appreciate it if at some stage you can have a look over it just to make sure I'm still heading on the right track, I'm hoping that I haven't strayed into POV territory. Also the main article is getting too long so I/we may need to create some sub articles such as History of Palm Island, Queensland, etc. and then summarise what is currently there, not a task I'm looking forward to:) Ta, WikiTownsvillian 18:58, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, would you please re-review your closing on this? All three of the delete !votes were for article quality reasons, two of which specifically stated the subject oif the article was notable enough. with an equal number of keep !votes, it seemed a likely keep outcome. Thanks for the reply. Could you restore the article to my user space, so I have something to work off when I go to recreate a new article about the subject? Thanks, Jerry 02:59, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found it at User:Jerry/Alan Waddell. Thanks, Jerry 03:06, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, would it be possible to restore the talk page for this article to the talk page for the restored version in my user space? This will allow me to review the suggestion, objections and concerns of editors who may not have particpated in the AfD. Thanks, Jerry

This article was closed before I had a chance to vote, and/or make the necessary changes to the article. How do I go about getting it restored? Thanks, JWaddell 07:31, 21 April 2007 UTC

No problem. I felt sort of stupid making 5 subsequent edits to do one thing.. anyway, I actually found the article on the future FA list and I figured there'd be some good spots to use it in the article. I'm trying to "raise awareness" of the handy little tool.. it can do quite a bit. If you ever need any help with how to make it work for your articles (you can fiddle with the way it spells, abbreviates, the grammar it uses.. etc) just let me know. -- drumguy8800 C T 22:20, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ross "The Skull" May[edit]

I was going to delete all the Ross "The Skull" May rubbish as A7, but you beat me to it. I don't think G5 applies because David isn't banned, he's just indefinitely blocked. Although I'm not moved by your references to the FA status this article once achieved, I am more than willing to discuss and rectify shortcomings in my own contributions to this article. I look forward to your constructive engagement here. For example, the level of detail on the parties and electoral systems are clearly out of place – agreed? Joestella 16:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I object to being accused of vandalism here. If you're worried about the edit summary, that had to do with the fact that while I was refining the text, you were intent on edit-warring. I apologise if there was any confusion. Joestella 16:18, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is no excuse for hiding behind a misleading edit summary. [3] "Rewrite council analysis" does *not* explain removal of two-thirds of the article, major changes to the lead and reformatting. It would justify two or three sentences at most. Orderinchaos 17:04, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Come now, OIC, you hid your revert as "mangled english issues in last edit". The reality is that this article is in a terrible state and is in urgent need of repair. I challenge you to rebutt more than a handful of the 23 most egregious problems I listed on the talk page. Joestella 17:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you actually *read* that edit? [4] "Labor received a benefited from 3.7% primary swing, winning 4.39 quotas:" Our definition of egregious differs, you have a point on about 8 of them from what I can see, and I have never once said this article is beyond improving. You can see what I said on DanielT5 (talk · contribs) and Joestella (talk · contribs) if you are interested. I'm going to assume the blanking was an error and will not be repeated. I'm also going to assume that we've established that edits to a featured article should be treated with care. I'm not going to do anything administratively at this time; I'm going to monitor the situation for now.--Isotope23 17:06, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I said on Joestella (talk · contribs) talkpage... WP:DR might be the logical next step here. Without diffs I'm not going to point fingers at anyone, but if there is long term disruption going on then mediation or a user RFC might be what needs to happen.--Isotope23 17:21, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Train/railway stations[edit]

Yep I noticed that some didn't have the "apart" already. Having the word "apart" there makes it sound like the stations were forcefully separated from Perth Station at some point - I can just imagine that ... maybe that's the real reason for the delay on the Mandurah railway line? :) Graham87 12:19, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah right - it's not like train drivers have any problems figuring out where they're going. They just need to follow the beaten track. I could almost do the job under most circumstances except for finding the right place to stop the train .. and maybe the signal lights ... Graham87 12:31, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hamersley on the main page[edit]

Good to see this one up there. Funny though how the almost 100 edits basically cancelled each other out. Some changes to the lead, updating of the house pricing and some style/wording referencing changes. A whole day of vandal-whack-vandal-whack with small edits in between makes me think that in some ways citizendium is onto something. Also, after watching the online episodes of Joe Versus the Volcano I'm glad I stay out of politics articles, as it looks like a good way to lose my remaining hair. Advice needed[edit]

Bit concerned by this one. A user Sibenordy (talk · contribs) appears to be cut-and-paste moving articles, then Wiendietry (talk · contribs) within only a few minutes (and in the case of Hamersley, in the *same* minute) has changed links to them all over Wikipedia, even in talk page archives. Both users' talk pages and contribs suggest this has been an issue several times before - and with articles which are not even vaguely related, although some recent Sibenordy changes related to another main page featured article. I was able to fix Hamersley and the 25 or so changes with rollback within about 10 minutes of it occurring, but I was really, really unsure how to proceed as far as warnings or whatever, or letting the Wikipedia community know this might be an infrequent problem. Orderinchaos 06:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I saw this - you wasted a hell of a lot of time and effort undoing their crud. Buggered if I know what to do. Is it stupidity or malice? Does it matter?
I suppose the first thing to do is to ask them why they did it, and not to do it again. Then judge of their response. An inadequate response should be met with a block IMO, at least for the one that has had plenty of warnings. Hesperian 06:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

5266 is B. menziesii. 5109 is one of the Crocinae, probably B. prionotes. I'd be happy enough to take them all for Commons, even though we might not find a place for all or any of them in their Wikipedia articles - I reckon Commons should be treated as a general media repository, rather than a cross-encyclopedia repository. Hi Orderinchaos, could you please look at my recent contribution list and the conversation I've just had with SatuSuro and let me know if I've done something wrong, I guess it would have been better to consult first, but it was annoying me that no one was rating for wiki-politics so I decided to be bold and start on it and I thought that all Government leaders at least post-federation would warrant either a top or high rating (top for prime ministers and high for premiers) to a wikiproject based on Aust. politics... let me know what you think. thanks, WikiTownsvillian 12:20, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks mate, always good to get your opinion, particularly on tonight's issue. Suburbs & LGA[edit]

When assesing Suburbs and LGA's of Perth, what WP do we put them into - WA or Perth? Twenty Years 10:50, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okies, sounds awesome. ty. Twenty Years 11:38, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sting[edit]

Youre taking it out too quick - there is not a perth project article unassessed! waah SatuSuro 03:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC) I Love the irony of the category at the bottom of your talk page - and your awb work floating across my watch page :) SatuSuro 03:34, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Am seeking adoption to help do new articles better for Wiki. Interested mainly in Music and Australia features. Am reposting this as i placed it in wrong location first time. Boylo 03:32, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hobart[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Wiki_ian&action=edit&section=25 - I have suggested you might put them in order :) please SatuSuro 07:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC) Ta for that - my watchlist still floats with your edits - you hav been busy! cheers SatuSuro 08:37, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Postcodes[edit]

[6] Thanks. Email shortly. —Moondyne 07:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The new format looks ok - but I'd put it in a tabular format, maybe with a map (that will take ages, I know...) and maybe a year when that postcode/suburb was introduced? But in terms of the headings and arranging things by postcode rather than name is a good idea. JRG 00:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Precision[edit]

Hello. You don't know me, but I spent some time determining this distance. This was with a ruler and a piece of string and I doubt you can supply a better reference than that. The article used to say that it was 2 (two) kilometres away, but using my verifiable research method, I determined that was the middle of a train track and that I was breaking the law and in extreme danger. My ruler conforms to international standards ("International standards are standards developed by international standards organizations. By definition, international standards are ...") of precision, so this is not WP:NOR as I suppose you will claim. Besides, I was born there so must know what the distance is to the point that is not there! ````

Costpodes[edit]

What are you doing to the regal & antient numerical suffixes? I read the noticeboard for a change. Any opinion on Compact TOCs for long lists? ☻ Fred|discussion|contributions Good. Regards.

db[edit]

I also tagged South Perth Primary School which I'd also be happy to concede if something new came to light. The others, less so. —Moondyne 07:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent news. I had just finished reading WP:SCHOOLS#Notes closely (for the first time) and reckon that about 90% of school articles would struggle if we were honest about it. But I'm not interested in going there (just yet!). —Moondyne 07:22, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Laverton and Leonora[edit]

... were two of my earliest articles. Nice to see them being maintained, and glad they didn't need too much of an overhaul after all this time. Keep up the good work ;-) Hesperian 13:17, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

gmile[edit]

SatuSuro 14:14, 27 April 2007 (UTC) and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Adelaide#Station_Infoboxes might have some ramifications around the place - so to speak SatuSuro 15:16, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please help - I am about to try to do my class=NA tagging for some of the Singapore project - could you please watch - and if I have problems with NA inside the Sg template could you poissibly do a fix for me (Ok I owe) SatuSuro 05:30, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was no issue with the template - more what the project does with lists, disambigs (they tag disambigs - yikes!) - trust last nights gmail was checked early enough cheers SatuSuro 05:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Once again my watch page is ablaze with your edits - we must have very similar watch pages (to an extent) - my talk page needs to be read as my singapore friend has concerns about the SG daily bot - any help appreciated (if you are not locked in to the edits forever so to speak) cheers SatuSuro 06:08, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice Needed[edit]

I have done my first new article on a Australian band from the 70's Band of Light but a Editor has posted a box stating ' that the subject of the article does not satisfy the notability guideline '. He has put the notes ' notable? & cat ', yet the article from what i can tell passes on notable from the music listing in a few criteria, such as having a hit on national charts and releasing two or more albums. So am unsure what he is requiring or what to do now. Also am unsure of what he means by ' cat '. Can you help us out on this ? Thx Boylo 04:48, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thx for your help on that Orderinchaos. I was still working on that article to do the links to internal pages, when that box appeared. Am working on adding more info to complete it. Those links you gave me will help also. Regards Boylo 01:00, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ratings[edit]

  • Anigozanthos manglesii, high for WA, because it is our floral emblem. Low for Australia.
  • Eucalyptus marginata, mid or maybe high for WA, because it is our best known tree, very widely distributed, a renowned timber worldwide, and historically an important export industry. Mid for Australia.
  • Eucalypus diversicolor, mid for WA, because it is well known worldwide, and the basis for a major industry. Low for Australia.
  • Acacia aneura should be low for WA, but mid or high for Australia.
  • I would at least consider ranking the following as mid for WA simply because they are highly prominent, to the point of almost being household names in WA or worldwide: Adansonia gregorii, Agonis flexuosa, Chamelaucium uncinatum, Corymbia calophylla, Hakea laurina, Nuytsia floribunda.
  • Phytophythora cinnamomi is not a plant, but should be rated mid for WA because it is one of our big three conservation issues.
  • Deltasaurus kimberleyensis is not a plant; low for WA.
  • Acacia baileyana does not occur in WA; remove from WA project.

Everything else should be low for both WA and Australia. Just my two cents. Thanks for putting in the effort. Hesperian 11:46, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Phytophythora cinnamomi Id would say high, given its a consideration for all plantings affects access to various parts of the state Gnangarra 12:04, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:WA LGAs[edit]

No worries it was a little repetitive. Once the table is complete and the lead increase it might be a candidate for featured listing. Hossen27 07:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geraldton[edit]

Thats funny because I didnt put Geraldton on the locator maps - looks like that was the right decision/mistake --Astrokey44 22:57, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
