Hello[edit]

Hi. I have seen you editing football-related articles a lot (a field which I too "specialise" in), but have never formally intoduced myself, Kingfisherswift. Anyway, the point is I would like to thank you for your countless good edits to football articles, and hope to work with you on some articles sometime. Cheers! Kingfisherswift 10:50, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, right. I realised you were heavily involved in the FAID, and I knew someone was sticking the notices on peoples pages. Anyway, hope to see you around. Kingfisherswift 11:05, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hi Simon,

Bit new to all this but dedicated to making the Aston Villa as comprehensive as possible. Sorry if I've been a little over-zealous! Look forward to contributing good stuff within the guidelines in future!

Aston Villa[edit]

Stuart Walker and Patrick Riley are part of Aston Villa's coaching staff featured in this season's team photograph, and, as such, should NOT have been deleted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.37.181.198 (talkcontribs) .

Manchester City Players[edit]

Gingerdave- hi, thought id let you know that ive created articles for all of the former Manchester City players that did not have them in the likst that you posted to me. They are short in the main but im glad that i could at least put something down about so many former heroes of the team i support. If you have any other suggestions for things i could help with i am happy to oblige though i will be returning to university soon which will impede any help that i can offer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.47.123 (talkcontribs) who is almost certainly a logged-out Gingerdave (talk · contribs).

Whats up? Hi, I'm trying to gather some more interest and support for the Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music. Please check out the topics and lets get our WikiProject to function better. I've taken an interest in the Wikipedia:WikiProject hip hop and I consider that WikiProject to be better developed. Hopefully we can all work together to improve articles relating to punk. Also, I am trying to gather support and opinions concerning the punk house article and specifically the Theta Beta Potata article which is currently in AfD (x2) at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Theta Beta Potata (second nomination). Please check it out and voice your opinion. Xsxex 06:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Oldelpaso. I know that you noticed that Dr Pepper Ballpark was up for featured article status. Considering that you contributed to the peer review and are therefore familiar with the article, I was hoping that you might come by and drop your comments at the FAC here. I hope to have time to look at your peer review soon. Thanks so much. — Scm83x hook 'em 22:29, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome, mate. Cheers for the tip on the name signing, it's a lot easier than attempting to do it manually. Chris Larkin 19:01, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zola's shirt number[edit]

I'm fairly certain that Zola's shirt number was never officially retired, although no other player has had it since. I had a quick scan through the archives of Chelsea's official website, but could find no mention of it. Hope that helps a bit. SteveO 16:42, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This page should not be deleted because this is NOT original research. I use the page http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/Quran/int/long.html and posted some intolerant verses.DAde 15:54, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Thank you, Oldelpaso, for voting on my RFA, which passed 95 to 1. Now that I have the mop, I hope I can live up to the standard, and be a good administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. —this is messedrocker (talk) 21:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Problem[edit]

Sorry for turning to you for help, but i'm stumped - why, on the Northern Cyprus Football Federation page, does the image I've used not show? As far as I can tell, I've followed all the steps, but it's foxing me! Help! Superlinus 10:48, 22 September 2006 (UTC) EDIT: I managed to sort it, but in a backwards way. Any advice would still be welcome! Superlinus 17:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

Hi, could you please tell me why the links to Football/SoccerMercato have been removed from the section external links? The article is about the football transfers and that site presents the latest football transfers worldwide for FREE. From my point of view, this free content seems to be 1) very much related to the article 2) interesting for the wikipedia community as it covers the transfers worldwide I don't understand why Footballtransfers.net remains in the external links. Either all transfer news site remain there or none. Do you agree? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 194.51.20.124 (talkcontribs) .

(This reply cross posted both here and to 194.51.20.124's talk page due to probable dynamic IP) Systematic addition of the same link to multiple articles tends to alert suspicions about the motive for adding links. That in each case here two links to the same site were added increases suspicion. Some of the articles to which the links were added are clearly not directly related to the content of the site, such as British football transfer record, hence I removed them all, regarding them as likely spam. I recommend reading the guideline Wikipedia:External links, which explains what sort of links are generally acceptable or not acceptable. If you think a link should be added to a page, please discuss it on that article's talk page. Also please bear in mind that editors are encouraged to add content instead of links, as Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a vehicle for advertising or a repository of links. Thanks. Peer Review Thanks[edit]

(Barnstar moved to userpage) I'd like to thank you for responding for my request for a peer review on the Sydney Roosters. All of the suggestions you put forward I agreed with and hopefully now the critics at Wikipedia:Featured articles may think the same way I do now about the article. As a reward for your time into helping me improve the article, I award you the Original Barnstar above. Many thanks, --mdmanser 13:40, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Leicester City[edit]

Thanks for the blurred star, sort of a back-handed compliment I guess. If you could have a look at the article and help me sort out any problems that would be great. I've rewritten alot of the article so to see it reach FA would be great. On Tony I just thought he was harsh, there is only one short paragraph but he said there were loads. It's annoying when you work hard and someone does that. Jimmmmmmmmm 17:47, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism?[edit]

I don't think I've edited a page in a long time, so what are you talking about? :/

Ciarán

My warning was in response to this edit adding false information to List of Liverpool F.C. players. If this was not you, then it was probably someone using the same ISP, as some ISPs share IPs between many users, and allocate a different IP each time you log on. The easiest way to prevent any cases of mistaken identity is to create an account. Oldelpaso 19:12, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm on an ISP that gives out dynamic IPs, that must be it. ;d

FAID[edit]

Have you seen any of the football stadium articles? A lot of them are just stubs. Maybe FAID should focus more on football stadiums more then anything else. Kingjeff 19:23, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at Weserstadion. I added the infobox and the trivia. So, it was almost blank before I worked on it. This seems to be almost common place for football stadiums. Kingjeff 20:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've proposed a Sports Venue WikiProject. Come here and check it out.

West Ham external links[edit]

Just regarding your recent removal of two external links. Not so bothered about the Poland one (even though it's valid - not sure what the WP:EL argument is against it) but KUMB provides more information than you'd find on any other site (including the hopelessy garbage official site that doesn't even list the full squad). KUMB is also used as a source (such as for squad numbers a la James Tomkins). Appreciate your attempt to help, but I thought I'd best explain why I intend to reinclude KUMB in the article before I reinsert.--Koncorde 23:04, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images in templates[edit]

Why can't I put logos in the Serie A squad templates but Celtic F.C. are allowed to have their logo on their squad template.--Rossoneri3 02:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

FC Moskva and Manchester City F.C.[edit]

I think that you underestimate the popularity of the FA Premier League in Russia :) To the point, I was unable to find any confirmation of connection between nicknames (though I personally think there is such connection), and I've removed the reference to MCFC from the article for the sake of verifiability. I've asked for help at FC Moskva's official forum, but I don't put much hope in it. Conscious 09:01, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look in the article history. When I split this off from FA Premier League ages ago, I made a table of what happened each year -- perhaps this might be a good way to present the data. [1]. Regards, howcheng {chat} 19:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and thanks a lot for your feedback on the GA nomination. I'll get right onto it.

Just a couple of issues I'd like to bring up with you. Firstly. Broad range. I agree that it covers mostly (indeed too much) history. You also state there's not enough other information (eg ground, supporters etc). Well, the ground has it's own article (Bramall Lane, as you pointed out), so I was considering slimming down this page and creating separate articles, as per User:Lewisskinner/Template:Sheffield United F.C. (see Sheffield United F.C. managers.) Would this help towards a GA/FA status? The preceding comment contained scenes of a violent or sexual nature, and should not have been viewed by young children. Finn Harps and players[edit]

  • I believe you have wrongfully nominated these articles for deletion. 81.151.164.158 19:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
* People like this are the scourge of the site. Ryannus 19:22, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - Why must you nominate these articles without knowing anything about the articles in the first place? You clearly have not got a clue. Thank you very much for making a nuisance of yourself. Ryannus 19:38, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • As you admit in your confessional area, your "football knowledge has more flaws than [you] think". I feel that your nomination of the Finn Harps-related articles is highly ignorant, downright careless, wholly unnecessary and utterly incomprehensible. In no way can I see how it benefits Wikipedia's Football Project which aims to collect as much notable information as is possible from the national leagues of every country. You seem to have adopted a lazy broad-brush approach by nominating them all simply because of their association with a club you personally perceive to be minor/non-notable. This subjective method of "cleaning-up" really isn't good enough. Have you investigated the case of each individual? Please do. Do you have any form of authority in the area of League of Ireland/FAI National League football at all? It would be unfortunate to lose these articles, especially to someone who is part of the football project. I would be content if you withdrew your nominations. Thanks. --Danny Invincible 03:30, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, points taken on board. I agree that it is frustrating when such articles are never expanded beyond an uninteresting stage. But I don't feel that the best method of dealing with that is to delete them altogether, unless your overall aim is to provoke a debate which will pull more information out as well as test and verify notability in a roundabout fashion. I will try to include and verify the notable material discussed in the debate later when I have more time.

Yeah, I know that Elisson is quite experienced. He seems to have created the football project. I was only toying with him as (maybe you're aware) Derry City knocked IFK Göteborg out of the UEFA Cup qualifying rounds earlier this season. I knew full well that this wasn't the real reason behind his belief that the article is B-class. Hence my use of a ';)' smiley.

Although Elisson has given me some pointers, you can go through the article if you want. That would be very helpful. Cheers.--Danny Invincible 13:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The result of the Eloka Asokuh debate was 'no consensus', but the other players remain nominated for deletion it seems. I have developed a number of these pages. Tell me what you think. Do you have the power to remove the nominations? Also, thanks for your support regarding the name debate - I had no idea it could cause so much trouble. You said: "This block seems like an overly strict interpretation of WP:USERNAME to me. Danny Invincibile is not particularly well known, his unusual name is probably the only reason a lot of people have heard of him. Would a simple note atop the userpage such as the one on User:John Reid not suffice?"

This suits me. Note that I am not the blocking admin, however. --Yamla 19:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Danny Invincible[edit]

The unusual nature of the name contributes to why he was blocked.. He's admitted to it being a) not his real name and b) knowingly the name of a notable person. John Reid is a pretty common name and likely the legal name of that user. As he's editing on football topics and is member of the football Wikiproject the limited reputation of the footballer is balanced by the fact a lot of people, myself included, will think "wow, Danny Invincibile is editing Wikipedia" in the areas he is focussing on. I will chat to him about possible options, he's emailed me and I'll reply to him by email and on Wiki. Deizio talk 20:15, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

East Stirling[edit]

Thanks. I added a tag (and a BLP one also), but (while trying to assume good faith) it's pretty likely he's just going to ignore that anyway and insert the content again, and as there were multiple policy violations I thought it might be best to get help sooner rather than later. Once it's calmed down I'll have a look the article and see what recent edits can be re-inserted, as I had to revert a few weeks back to get to a "clean" version.
