Request for adding Biswa Singha to 2409:4065::/36's block settings[edit]

Is it possible to add Biswa Singha to the block settings of [2409:4065::/36]? Biswa Singha is an article closely related to Koch dynasty which is already included in the block setting. Thanks. Chaipau (talk) 10:55, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! But it seems the same user is using a different IP range as well. Compare [1] and [2]. Is it possible to link the 2405: range to the 2409: range? I am not sure what the technical solution could be. Chaipau (talk) 16:08, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

user:Atorabtab[edit]

I have some serious concerns about the additions and in particular deletions this user has been implementing on the Osibisa page over the last week or so but I don’t know how one approaches these things. I did try to communicate with the user but have been ignored as I was attempting to find out why their changes were deemed applicable. Any idea how this can be addressed. I’m ok with updating various things, particularly regarding music but I’m not that familiar with how to manage or deal with what I think is corruptive edits and changes Regards Malc McMalcolm (talk) 22:13, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have the source for the addition to the American University of the Caribbean page. It is a pdf. Do you know how I can cite the pdf?QQQspadesQQQ (talk) 00:17, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Wikipedia:Citing_sources. A PDF may or may not qualify as a reliable source depending on it's origin and who published it. If this is a primary source, you'll want to read Wikipedia:No_original_research#Primary. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:22, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Picture warriors for Bollywood actresses[edit]

There's an increasing number of editors, such as Anjney11, NIKE 01, Jha09 who come in to change pictures of Bollywood actresses almost every single day to "recent" ones, or they splash the entire page with pictures. It's getting a bit tiring tbh. Can something be done about this? Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:36, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's tiring. Unfortunately, unless there's a suspicion of sockpuppettry, we have to deal with them on a case-by-case basis; warnings, protection when it gets too excessive, etc. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:43, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the revision history of Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani, picture updates and changes by these users are a daily occurrence. Can we increase protection of these two pages to prevent this happening? Krimuk2.0 (talk) 18:17, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for that, I promise that this will not happen again by my side. But I just wanted to know that when to update an image to a newer one so that the mistake does not happen again.

If we already have a reasonably recent high-quality photo, please propose photo changes on the article's talk page first. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:22, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I think the IPv6 you just blocked at Alexandra Beaton has come back as a named-account sock. Not sure if you want to block the named account, semi-protect the article this time, or both. Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:06, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

At Nuno Tavares (i come to you since all the other users with whom i felt it would be pertinent to discuss the subject - in fact, with one of them i have once or twice, in other "wiki-fields" - have their talkpages protected; due to that and due to the fact that you blocked the last IP address, they have thousands): this person clearly does not understand that what they are doing is a serious wiki-offence, and they continue to wage excuses like "My little brother did it", to name this one). One WP guideline tells us that sock contributions are to be reverted on sight regardless of their merits, does it not?

I have reverted once more in Mr. Tavares' article, but they will return believe me! Attentively, from Portugal 193.137.135.5 (talk) 09:34, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I like your "Wikipedia is a serious business" and "User is not notable" templates but I can't seem to find it in the templates used underneath the page, or by searching it up in templates. If you could tell me the code for it I would much appreciate it. Thanks, Matthew. MasterMatt12 (talk) 00:55, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There aren't templates for those, I just made them "by hand." You can see the code in the source here. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:01, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate it, also, I was wondering if you could show me the edits User: AG5263 made to show that he is using several accounts on the same IP adress? That's not how the WP:STANDARDOFFER works. Follow the instructions on the link and make the request on your account page (ideally, User:GoravSharma0245 unless you are unable to log in to that account for some reason). Technically I should block this IP for block evasion. I advise you to not make further logged-out edits if you want to have a chance of having your account unbanned. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:59, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I requested while logged out because i was unable to log in. You should not block whole IP as this is our collage wifi (personal suggestion as I’m not going to any further request for block evasion). BTW, thanks for your suggestion. Have a great day ahead, OhNoitsJamie. 18:09, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It was created as an article and existed for six years before it was redirected. The target article has a title that seems to be relevant, but is actually about the primetime schedule; the pages were not merged. The redirect is misleading and was disputed, so the editors redirecting it were also disruptive; usually contested redirects of existing articles such as this are restored and taken to AFD. Peter James (talk) 14:33, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I saw a single editor edit-warring against several other editors. I don't have an opinions as to whether it should remain a redirect or not; that should be hashed out on the article's talk page. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:20, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The schools I keep removing from list of schools/institutions in Warri are not in Warri. Please look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Acadia: A New Orleans Bistro, which seems to be a mess[edit]

You have a reputation for no nonsense administrative solutions to issues on WP, and are not involved with this deletion discussion as far as I can tell.

The reason for asking you to take a look is to consider whether it is likely ever to be closable in a "healthy" manner (Justice being seen to be done) or whether an out of process early closure is appropriate. I am being careful not to seek to influence your opinion, though I obviously have an opinion.

I thought of taking this to Closure Requests, but I felt it probably needed a troubleshooter to take a look "from afar" to seek to determine what to do. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 23:37, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As was noted early in the AfD, these entries shouldn't be grouped in a single AfD; as long as they are, I can't imagine a reasonable way to close as any other than "keep" or "no consensus." I'm not against AfD bundles per se, but this is not a good application of bundling. OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:38, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User vandalising pages[edit]

This user, 114.198.30.253, is vandalising certain pages. They believe that what they're adding is needed, when it's actually not. They appear that they're not going to stop. If you feel the need to ban them, like myself, you know what to do. Dipper Dalmatian (talk) 04:55, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Glancing at a few of their recent edits, it's not clear to me how those edits are vandalism. OhNoitsJamie Talk 04:57, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Their edits are vandalism because they keep adding the same things that are completely unnecessary over and over again. No matter how many times I revert their edits, they keep coming back. The Camerlengo[edit]

Hi I'm a Catholic priest and I can`t understand why you considered that my comment about the Camerlengo in the Angels & Demons article is not useful or interesting or appropriate. I think the opposite, because people ask me constantly about this subject (and about many others, in this film). I put the references, the original ones. But you deleted it without explanations, thank you for your politeness. I'm not a rookie in Wikipedia. You can correct what I said, or correct my words, of course, that'd be useful. But you decided to delete all. Why? You are the judge. I don't know you pesonally and I wouldn't like to upset you, but it seems you doens`t mind to judge or upset other people, and I can't understand this so arrogant attitude in many experienced wikipedians. Thank you.--Habibicb (talk) 12:46, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated use of .xyz domain by replacing it with .com[edit]

Hi I see you around blacklist and whitelist pages. I am confuse whether it is possible to evade the .xyz blocked domains by changing it's tld by .com repeatedly. I do not agree with this. One of the user named Apaugasma is continuously doing this. Please see Special:Diff/1134587522 and Special:Diff/1134781829 . I think blacklisted website which is block due to their .xyz blanket should not be cited by using .com repeatedly. 27.123.253.83 (talk) 17:15, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The *.xyz is blocked because the vast majority of .xyz sites have no legitimate use on Wikipedia. If qadrishattari aliases to both .com and .xyz, there would need to be a discussion as to whether qadrishattari should be specifically blacklisted. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:24, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jamie, I think I may in a way have indulged in WP:DNFT here, so sorry to bother you with this.
For context, 27.123.253.x is arguing (here) that a paper which itself cites this blog as a source (p. 175, ref 7, listed at p. 179) is reliable, whence my repeated linking the blog (to show that it is first-rate unreliable). Because I can't link the actual URL, I link to a .com (chose this at random) clarifying that it should be replaced with .xyz to actually access the blog. For some reason 27.123.253.x is now trying to cast me as a spammer for linking to the blog they are arguing is reliable.

Thank you for your message re: sources, but a quick question[edit]

Hello,

I appreciated your message however I am slightly confused as I only edit wikipedia while I am logged in and do not make many edits, let alone with poor or extremist sources.

There are other individuals on my network, so it may have been one of them if this was truly from this IP address. Alternatively, this IP could have been rotated to me by my ISP. I haven't edited any pages since November and am as such slightly confused, is there any way you could tell me which pages were edited that your message is in reference to so I could definitively conclude whether they are my edits or not?

My account can be found here if you'd like to more easily continue this conversation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:CatharticHistorian

Edit: Ah! Found the "Contributions" button for logged out users. Seems there are 3 listed, this current conversation, an edit I made while accidentally logged out on November 20th (and you can see it is similar in nature to a couple edits I made that day to other pages), and one about an animals page which is odd. I didn't touch the "Fastest Animals" page, but it does seem that my IP has been stable since November so I may have to do some asking around the house!

Kind regards. 98.97.22.124 (talk) 01:36, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me to Unblocked My Website[edit]

Good Morning @Ohnoitsjamie According to Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks I can appeal a user who blocked me, so I have a right to say. Yeah I have a Good Reason for being unblocked.
• In some article pages their is minor mistake, I can resolve it in wikipedia.
• I can Also Help wikipedia to create page and write 100% original content for it.
• In some their is also ( citation needed ) I Can Fulfill it, but not doing spam again, I understand what is wikipedia, so you are a good person to give last chance to prove me.
If I will try again to do anything wrong on wikipedia, just don't thought to much blocked me for whole life, I will not not say anything, but right you can give last chance sir. sorry for disturbing you. Thanks for your important Time

Reliable Source on a Disambiguation Page[edit]

You removed my addition to a disambiguation page for lacking a reliable source. How do I add a source for an addition to a disambiguation page, and where can I find sources cited on a disambiguation page?

In this specific instance, the disambiguation page states that the page title is the name of a character from a TV show, and I added a line linking to a video game that also has a character by that name.

If it's not relevant to the page, that's one thing, and I can remove both. Or was your issue that there isn't a source that there is actually a character by that name in the game I linked to? Davedwtho (talk) 19:11, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Gaster" is a fan theory, and doesn't belong on Wikipedia per WP:NOR. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:56, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's not true, though. He is referred to more than once in the main story of the game and his name is spoken by NPCs if the save file has the correct randomly-determined "fun value". Is the game itself not a reliable source per that article? Davedwtho (talk) 15:14, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No; however, this source from Kotaku is probably sufficient, as it appears in this list. Please see WP:CITE for how to cite sources. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:18, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, then back to the original question of disambiguation pages not having sources. Where am I supposed to put that link on the page? WP:D3 says to not include source links on disambiguation pages. Davedwtho (talk) 15:45, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For notable characters, typically the target article will at least mention that character; Undertale does not. The question is if the character is notable enough to merit inclusion on the Undertale, which is debatable. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:05, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:124.197.12.90[edit]

Hi, Thanks for looking at my contributions. I'm new here and would appreciate it very much if you could let me know which one was specifically incorrect respectively not constructive and why. Cheers Atelier-KaRo (talk) 23:26, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You added a name to Shiraz that didn't seem to meet our WP:BIO notability criteria. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:26, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your answer. I went through the regulations. The poet I added meets the standards. I assume that Wikipedia is politically neutral and does not adhere to censorship-oriented standards of dictatorships. The list currently ignores many major artists who have had to leave the country due to political circumstances. To disregard these individuals, even though they belong in the list artistically and in terms of public awareness, would be wrong and requires at least a clear factual explanation. Right now millions around the world are demonstrating for the rights of the people in Iran. I hope Wikipedia brings a corresponding sensitivity to the topic. Wikipedia doesn't need to do the job of censors. Please let me know, if you need any further information. Atelier-KaRo (talk) 20:17, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My deletion nomination has nothing to do with politics, just Wikipedia notability policy. Wikipedia is not a memorial. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:30, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Of course I fully understand your concern. However, this is not about nostalgia. This is about an important poet whose works can be found in many libraries abroad. According to my information, his works can be found eg in the USA, Germany (more than two dozen libraries), Austria, Switzerland, the UK and even New Zealand. On request, I can name more than 30 libraries specifically. More than 20 university libraries. Many references are in Persian. Some are from political groups. I deliberately focused on his literary work, which can also be read in English language. I hope you take into account whether or not a poet has lived in exile too. I hope you don't feel offended but the Iranian government is trying to annihilate everything democratic and all who are fighting for it. Spam - on Pittsburgh Beautiful[edit]

That page is considered media in pittsburgh. The visitpittsburgh page quotes it as well as other links on Wikipedia. It has been around for 7 years and totally dedicated to the history and culture of the area. I’m not sure why you would consider it spam? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingcalvin1970 (talkcontribs) 00:47, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't meet WP:EL guidelines. Please promote your site elsewhere. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:06, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just as an FYI, visitPittsburgh, the cities official tourism and hospitality partner, has linked to and quoted Pittsburgh Beautiful. I just attended their yearly shareholder meeting as an invited guest. We have done work with Phipps Conservatory, the University of Pittsburgh, KDKA and more. I added the link because it is an important resource and has been for the better part of 14 years, since I founded it in 2009. I guess you could call it promotion, but if I wanted to promote it, I would've done it a long time ago. I was hoping that it would add to the content on Pittsburgh's wiki page. I would ask you to please reconsider, as I am not adding or attempting to add links anywhere else in wikipedia. thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingcalvin1970 (talkcontribs) 22:57, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

user 86.83.170.173 - block evasion, not sockpuppetry[edit]

This ip user is currently under a 30 day block. This wasn't just sockpuppetry, but a block evasion. I think, though I'm not sure, that the user 2A02:C7C:5699:B300:284F:A48F:3E79:DB20 might be another sockpuppet of the same user, used only for three edits, all today, and all on the same page the originally blocked user had been so disruptive on. It seems a 1-week block that will expire before the 30 day block expires is no sanction at all for this block evasion. Dcs002 (talk) 22:00, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked based on an edit filter indicating partipation in a WP:MEAT vandalism campaign. I'm not aware of other sockpuppettry or active blocks. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:06, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lakota West High School Article Changes[edit]

Hey - I had updated Lakota West High Schools Wiki page recently (specifically some of their clubs and band info). Earlier today I looked back, and was notified that parts of it were leaning into a bias opinion and did not follow guidelines. The info removed however, was simply stating past events the band has gone to and how they did. Lakota East's High School Wiki page has the same things, so how come it got removed here, and why? Curious to see if it could be redacted and that info could go back. TP12907 (talk) 18:11, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of school clubs go on trips, we certainly don't need to enumerate them in Wikipedia per WP:NOT. I've cleaned up Lakota East as well. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:23, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dachshunds can be called hot dogs[edit]

The example I gave between calling dachshunds hot dogs and police officers cops did not seem to register. Neither have any of the sources I have provided indicating as such, that dachshunds and hot dogs share a close history and in colloquial jest, dachshunds are often called "hot dogs". This edit is not meant as vandalism, yet it seems to be treated as such. I understand your position as a moderator and want to consider all sides of the equation. How can I make this contribution in earnest? 139.182.208.223 (talk) 22:35, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cedars Park, Cheshunt[edit]

Hi,

The website "broxbourne.gov.uk/cedarspark" is not associated with the blacklisted site. This is the web page of Broxbourne Borough Council, who own and manage Cedars Park. "ParksHerts" is not an official website.

Why did you revert this change? 37.60.66.51 (talk) 12:27, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You know exactly why I did it; because that page links to your page, and there's no useful information on that page otherwise. Maybe it's time for you to give up promoting your websites on Wikipedia? OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:51, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Jamie, I was just wondering how to make a request to unlock a page that has been protected.

Thank You NBAFAN1017 (talk) 22:10, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RFPP, specifically the "Current_requests_for_reduction_in_protection_level." You'll need a convincing argument that protection is no longer necessary. That said, I'd highly recommend going the edit request route instead. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:20, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help please[edit]

In early January, heated arguments (which I regret and wish I had handled things better earlier) occurred between me and another editor User:Wutsje, over profile photos for actress Erica Durance on multiple Wikipedia websites: Erica Durance English Wikipedia, Erica Durance Wikidata and Erica Durance Wikipedia Simple English. A compromise was made on the talk pages, with all the photos reverting to the last revision before the conflict began. Recently, however, User:Wutsje once again replaced the profile photo on Erica Durance's English Wikipedia page and continued with disruptive editing. I'm kind of end of my rope, can you please help and intervene. Thank You. Rootone (talk) 01:50, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The photo on this revision is much better; it's clearer with significantly better resolution and more recent. The "deals" described here is silly; what is appropriate for English Wikipedia isn't decided at another project, and it's certainly not appropriate to assume that one editor can unilaterally dictate terms like that. If there is signficiant disagreement over a photo to use in an article in English Wikipedia, the appropriate thing to do is seek a consensus from multiple editors (e.g., third opinion or WP:RFC). In this particula rcase though, I think it's pretty clear that the more recent and sharper picture is the obvious choice. OhNoitsJamie Talk 04:36, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello OhNoitsJamie

Its unclear to me why you reverted the edits made by 49.185.208.17. They don't appear to be disruptive, the vast majority of them merely add information about various parliamentarians based upon their public register of interests; which is a secondary source.

Kind regards

Jack4576 Jack4576 (talk) 00:56, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They were made by a block-evading WP:LTA; editing style is quite obviously the same user on this blocked range as well as several others. Had they not been obviously made by that LTA, I would've still deemed them inappropriate as WP:SYNTH from primary sources. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:04, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that blocked range is correct. I don't think they have similar styles. Neither do I think it is all that obvious (However I accept this is a subjective view). If I re-add that content whilst keeping in mind, and complying with the WP:SYNTH issue, would you have any objections? Jack4576 (talk) 01:15, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is one of several ranges that I monitor as the LTA has used them in the past; trust me that there are language idiosyncracies that are evident. I would challenge anyone re-adding that material unless there was sufficient third-party reliable sourcing for it. Erring on the side of WP:BLP, I don't see the point in Wikipedia reporting on income listed in government documents. That's very much WP:SYNTH. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:33, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Trust me the language idiosyncracies are not evident. I have strong reason to believe the edits were not made by that user. I do think politicians having an additional source of income is relevant to a politician's bio, and doesn't breach WP:BLP guidelines. The receipt of real estate income is a topic that receives considerable public attention in Australian politics. See for example this recent headline story in a major Australian newspaper: https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/how-many-properties-does-your-local-mp-own-20230214-p5ckg1.html; I might re-add the information with reliance on this article, instead of the register, if that would suit you Jack4576 (talk) 02:35, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MDE[edit]

Unfortunately the sourcing for the troupe's history is mostly in places I never want to go near and which are no-go blacklisted (obnoxious Reddit forums, the fuzzy Zealandish fruit orchard, and the like); any mainstream sourcing for the troupe or the members (as you can see by the article) is thin because when they do get inquiries, the leader tends to insult and demean said reporter or send their fans after them, rather than actually answering them. The article is a headache to deal with regularly as it is. Nate (chatter) 18:41, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So shouldn't "formerly" be removed if there isn't an RS to say who's current and who's former? The few RS's I've been able to find just list the three members without mentioning current or former. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:44, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
