Sorry about that edit[edit]

I thought that when you spend around the same as Non-Stop (film) on a movie and don't even cover your budget, that was a box office bomb. I was mistaken, sorry about that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteelerFan1933 (talkcontribs) 01:37, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Admin right[edit]

Hi Sir ... User:Itcouldbepossible this is my original account I've accidentally created this account User:AAhap36 and this account is blocked... Now this is User:Itcouldbepossible my original account please give me admin rights ... I need it . 2409:4060:2D93:270A:0:0:5848:4005 (talk) 10:59, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) 2409:4060:2D93:270A:0:0:5848:4005, I don't know what to do here as I'm not an administrator. After a brief glance at AAhap36's talk page, I believe you are simply Shaiksuhana2 but logged out, as Itcouldbepossible uses Alliance Broadband rather than Reliance Jio Infocommunications. Now, just to inform you, Ohnoitsjamie is not a bureaucrat, as only they (bureaucrats) have the right to assign the "administrator" right to others. To add to the difficulty, you can only become an admin through some really intense process called requests for adminship.
Also, @Itcouldbepossible—courtesy ping, if you want some insight on this. — 3PPYB6TALKCONTRIBS — 13:35, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
3PPYB6 Oh, thanks for the ping! I already know about this mess. This IP or IP range had created an account and made this same type of request on GeneralNotability's talk page. Firefly removed the message and blocked the account. Now it is back and making another of his silly requests. By the way, how did you come to know I use Alliance Broadband? Did I mention it somewhere? I don't recall it. Would you mind telling me how you gathered this piece of information. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 14:55, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Itcouldbepossible—You disclosed it at User talk:AAhap36#Blocked as a sockpuppet. Side note, Ohnoitsjamie… I'd suggest blocking the /64 range for this IP as it is probably block evasion. — 3PPYB6TALKCONTRIBS — 15:01, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I unblocked 92.40.184.0/21[edit]

This was a 6mo range block, but it's actually of a 3 Mobile telephone company range - lots of mobile users, fast-changing IPs. It came to my attention from a reasonable user whose phone service was blocked - David Gerard (talk) 23:09, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK; the LTA has been dormant awhile, but they were using that range pretty consistently for awhile. I've bookmarked it for later reference. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, it's a PITA when they hit an ordinary phone range - David Gerard (talk) 23:39, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

FYI about blocked user[edit]

First, thank you for blocking user Seven Years Turners today. I just wanted to call to your attention that it appears likely that there is a fair possibility that the user is a registered name for IP user 50.228.19.234. I noted this because an edit you reverted on the Washington Capitals article from Seven Years Turners was identical to an edit I reverted two days ago from the IP user, and the IP user (like Seven Years Turners) has an edit history consisting of a lot of edits to sports-related articles with a focus on single-season articles for specific teams. I doubt any particular action is needed at this time, but we'll see whether the IP user resumes activity (most recent edits yesterday; I have not had time to look at them). 1995hoo (talk) 20:55, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up; I'll keep an eye on that IP and range. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:56, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see it's now irrelevant because someone else blocked the IP editor. Sorry to waste your time! 1995hoo (talk) 20:04, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, not a waste of time! I didn't realize SYT was an LTA. Good to communicate these things. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:14, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LTA?[edit]

I see you were the one that last protected SML (Youtuber)... In any case, that page has just been recreated and it's of very low quality (all the sources are Youtube or fandom wikis; the tone is entirely unencyclopedic, ...). Just letting you know - I don't know the particulars, but it's a new account with nearly no other edits, recreating a page which has seemingly been previously deleted, so that's immediately suspicious. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 01:01, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could be the LTA; I'll keep an eye on them. Moving to draft is fine, it's not going anywhere in that state. Thanks! OhNoitsJamie Talk 04:51, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New administrator activity requirement[edit]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Possible block evasion[edit]

Considering that the earlier IP netted a block from you just for adding that in the first place, the reinsertion definitely merits a block as well, whether or not it qualifies as block evasion. 49.178.0.0/17
49.178.128.0/17 - blocked till May 14, 2022

Hi again. Going back to your most recent archived talk, under the heading "Same IP? (Australia WP:CIR user)", re the earlier discussion, I think that this one shows remarkably similar traits: 49.178.99.219. Would you please have a look and see if you can determine anything? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:46, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Aaand I suspect that 49.178.132.148 might be our old friend again, although slightly less belligerent so far. Pattern of editing looks similar though, as in topics, bare urls, etc. I don't have time to follow up all of the changes now, will check again tomorrow if you don't get there before me. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:08, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Yep, same voice. I've blocked that range and added known ranges above. Let me know if I've missed any. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:07, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Jamie. I'll keep an eye out, but I don't know how to recognise ranges. I just notice odd edits and then look what else that IP has done. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:40, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly, when I inadvertently started to edit without logging in today (computer switchover happening at the moment), it told me that my IP was blocked, based on that first range above! It doesn't bother me, as I have an account, obviously - but presumably that means that the pesky user is using the same range of IP addresses as mine? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:06, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Every once in awhile I'll try to edit something from my phone, and if my login has expired, I encounter the block that seems to be semi-permanent on my mobile provider's large ipv6 range. The UK and Australia both seems to use dynamic IP assignments for residential customers more frequently than some other areas, which makes more targetted blocks tricky unfortunately. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:12, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see - thanks for the explanation. Well so long as it keeps the malign editors out, I suppose we just have to accept it as collateral damage if it also blocks a few potential newbies... Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:27, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering about this one - the pattern looks similar. Blocked by another admin, but do they need a longer block? 103.246.39.1 Laterthanyouthink (talk) 10:45, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, and I suspect this one as well - similar pattern although not quite as damaging, yet. 49.178.159.239. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:02, 5 June 2022 (UTC) @Ohnoitsjamie:, in case you missed this yesterday? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:29, 6 June 2022 (UTC) p.p.s. Oh sorry, just noticed that you've blocked them already. Ignore previous p.s. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:51, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jamie. Thought I'd let you know that 173.241.188.47, whom you blocked last month over their conduct at Special:PageHistory/Talk:Kmart, is still causing trouble. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 23:34, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The spirit of the rules[edit]

Hi Jamie. What do you think of these wholesale removals of content from Russian related articles? Some of the content that was removed (the one that I checked), such as this one, is easily attributable and I would of have added the RS and left it at that if this was a one off, but the rate at which they are removing the content, instead of tagging it, means that I (or others) won't be able to keep up. Best, M.Bitton (talk) 00:46, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For content that doesn't intersect WP:BLP or is otherwise not particularly controversial or dubious, I'd lean toward CN-tagging rather than wholesale deletion. You could try restoring some of the material you think is salvageable with a CN tag. If they challenge that, then you can seek wider input. OhNoitsJamie Talk 05:01, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It looks like they attracted the attention of other editors (after another 150 edits or so). I'll await their response to the concerns that have been raised on their talk page. Best, M.Bitton (talk) 14:45, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Idolings (talk) 12:45, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding and correcting information keeps getting replaced?[edit]

I’m not sure if I’m doing this correctly, so apologies. I am trying to add history and information to the Part Time band wiki page and it keeps getting deleted or replaced. I believe you have left me a message so i am just trying to find out why it keeps getting deleted. My write up had many sources that are still available. I would like to replace it with correct information as well as remove the false information of the wiki such as “domestic abuse” and issues with the label that are wrong, and i would like to add history as well as new information regarding the band. They are still present, the members have changed, and they are now on a new label. The constant removal if the information seems like a concentrated attack that has no place for a website of free knowledge. Thank you for your time i look forward to talking -Kerberosmusic — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerberosmusic (talkcontribs)

The messages on your talk page explain why it was deleted. Please take the time to read them. You don't get to remove well-sourced material that you don't like. New material must be written in a neuteral point-of-view and be attributable to a reliable source. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:34, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Linda Elriani[edit]

I probably messed up at Linda Elriani. After asking for protection, I wrote a talk-page message explaining that the sourcing was unreliable anyway (New York Post). After I'd posted it, I noticed that someone has rev-delled all the IP allegations. Since I alluded to what the allegations were in my talk-page message, you might want to rev-del me too? I didn't say anything explicit about it, but was aiming to give some explanation to the IP editors, who I felt were probably impossible to contact via their talk-pages. Sorry! Elemimele (talk) 22:56, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, easy enough to fix; better to err on the side of caution. Thanks for calling that to my attention! OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:59, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion[edit]

Hi Jamie. Hope you are doing well. I was thinking to propose, addition of qadrishattari.xyz to whitelist again or it's removal from blacklist. As I think it is not spam but a useful source for atypical niches like Sufism. I think various articles like Mustafa Raza Khan Qadri, Hurufism, Hashmi Miya can be improved with its addition. Many thanks. Dove's talk (talk) 23:27, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My opinion is that is should stay on the blacklist given the history of spamming and the fact that it doesn't meet WP:RS. Any further discussion belongs at WP:SBL, where you've already been told the same thing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:33, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all arguing with your decision but just want to say it looks like the Sufi org website and might help the project. Especially in atypical niches like Sufism where no enough good quality sources are available. Dove's talk (talk) 23:38, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits on Krasinski filmography[edit]

I am adding the references now and correcting incorrect references on Krasinski's filmography page, but we happen to be working at this at the same time, so it is like an add-delete-add-delete undo-redo-undo-redo situation unfolding. I just need a few minutes for formatting the correct references for the information I am adding. Can you please wait on undoing my information while I do this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RichWatt (talkcontribs) 23:42, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can add the references at the same time you add the content. You don't get to add the content then add the references later. There's no reason to remove references from unrelated content while you're doing that. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:44, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok no problem. Just so you know, the reason for the deleted source is because it contains incorrect information. I am adding a correct one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RichWatt (talkcontribs) 23:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection at Robby Soave[edit]

Hello. I think you mistakenly placed an indefinite page protection on the article Robby Soave, which seems disproportionate and contrary to the conclusion at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection/Archive/2021/12#Robby_Soave, in which you called for a 2-week protection. I think the initial vandalism was triggered by a TV statement, and have no idea if the article will be threatened with vandalism in the future (which could apply to any Wikipedia article at any time), but please consider returning the page to normal level. Thanks. --Animalparty! (talk) 03:12, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ooops, good catch, that was definitely unintential; as you surmised, it was supposed to just be for 2 weeks. I've unprotected it. Thanks! OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:41, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, the move protection was intended; I've elevated it to administrator. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:29, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Steel FM to the Scunthorpe page.[edit]

I am not using Wikipedia for promotion or advertising I am pointing out the facts that there is a community radio station in Scunthorpe which broadcasts 24hours a day 7 days a week, it launched in 2020 and is 2 years old it is a legal station and has on average 25000 listeners per week, it is a not for profit radio station with guidance from Ofcom on how to operate and generate an income. Steel FM broadcast from studios on Britannia Corner, they are members of The Community Media Association, Radio Academy and Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire. Steel FM are backed by North Lincolnshire Council, DN Colleges, UCNL, Humberside Police, give work experience to students from North Lindsey College. So as you can see they are a service just like Viking FM and Lincs FM and so should have a mention just like them, you are been unfair to Steel FM as a community service and precedential towards them, and giving Bauer Radio all recognition and nothing for an independent. If it's not clear within the description please feel free to re-write it so it fits your criteria but as a community station Steel FM deserve to be listed under Scunthorpe and with it's own page. Just like you have Beverley FM on Beverley's Page, Sine FM and TMCR on Doncaster's Page, Lincoln City Radio on Lincoln's page, they are community stations just like us so why do you keep deleting Steel FM from the Scunthorpe page.

Fbg999 (talk) 06:07, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Marco[reply]

@Fbg999: If you dont mind me leaving a comment while jamie is not here, your revisions seem to have been reverted by multiple editors for sounding like WP:PROMO (Specifically see point 5). A lot of the information presented in the paragraph is also info about the station that I'd say is generally not considered relevant towards the main article (E.g. Steel FM will also be applying for a SSDAB licence as soon as Ofcom advertise the licence in late 2022/early 2023.). As for your comment about as a community station Steel FM deserve to be listed under Scunthorpe and with it's own page, id recommend reading up on WP:NOTABILITY. I won't be commenting on whether or not its notable myself, as this is no where near my area of expertise. Aidan9382 (talk) 06:47, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You will be blocked if you try to add it again. You've been given plenty of warnings with explanations of why it's not an appropriate addition. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:18, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the case please can you tell me how I can word it to be able to be added to the Scunthorpe page. Marco Fbg999 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 18:41, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Contributions of 志強演員[edit]

Hi Ohnoitsjamie! It's good to talk to you again, and I hope you're having a great Saturday! I was checking into the edits for user 志強演員, and I saw that you had revision-deleted the revision text and edit summary of both this user's edits citing RD3. I'm very likely missing something (and, if you know me well, that's usually the case... lol), but I don't see how the edits and summaries constitute purely disruptive material. Can you tell me the reasoning behind this? I know there's suspicion of sock puppetry here, but the edits themselves don't appear to meet the threshold. Thanks in advance, and I wish you a great day! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:56, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oshwa; edits were from an active LTA self-promoter using edit summaries to circumvent content filters. Probably would've been sufficient to revdel the summaries in this case. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:39, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ohnoitsjamie - HA! Hey, fair enough! ;-) While I don't think the edits themselves necessarily meet the RD3 criterion for redaction, we're talking about an LTA here... In these cases, the level of "shits I give" regarding the strict compliance of the rev-del policy takes a significant plunge. ;-) Even if I wanted to or felt the need to start a discussion with you over this, in the end, it would only be a huge waste of our time. Instead of moving on to do more good work, we'd be spending time discussing an LTA's edits, meaning that we're giving the user time and attention when we shouldn't be. ;-) Anyways, thanks for getting back to me, and I hope you have a great weekend. :-) Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:48, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Barnstar of Good Humor
While surfing through page histories, I noticed some hilarious edit summaries by you that parodize spammers' wording, such as "subtracted external links of spam" in response to "Added External Links Of Wiki", and "I removed spam" in response to "I add external links because of one referral link is marked unreliable". Very entertaining! Anerisys (talk) 21:09, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My browser stalled while attempting to add deletion tags to Kevin Baugh[edit]

Which caused me to accidentally tag the micronation AFTER your bold redirect. Since I haven't made this mistake before, can you help me clean this mess up? I'm fine with the redirect as long as the page creator doesn't object. BusterD (talk) 18:42, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So I removed the AfD tag from the wrong article, withdrew my nom and talked to the page creator, who seems a good sort. (I also foolishly removed the process from the AfD log, then quickly undid myself.) I'm so used to using the scripts it's been a while since I managed this material by hand. While the process is still listed under various afd discussion categories, I think everything will drop away after the process is closed. Did I miss anything? BusterD (talk) 19:11, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the confusion; when I saw your G4 tag, I checked the history and saw that prior to the AfD it had been a redirect. The newer article was slightly different than the previously AfD'd one, but it still seemed that whatever notability that existed was intrinsically a part of the other article, so I restored the redirect. I think the withdrawn AfD nom is fine, unless someone wants to contest the redirect; then we're faced with either (1) unwithdrawing the 2nd AfD or (2) creating a third AfD. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:09, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note and your BOLD. The page creator doesn't seem to have problem with the redirect, which gives that editor options on how to restore it when and if better sources are revealed. I feel I over-reacted in the moment and your redirect righted me a bit. Thank you for being dependable. I'm a bit on edge today because two articles to which I'm a major contributor (Vicki Iseman and John McCain lobbyist controversy) have been edited today with a just released primary source which spills a bunch of dirt on everyone EXCEPT McCain's widow. I'm seeing pop culture journals which are linking the controversy page directly. If you would watchlist these two pages, I'd appreciate the sharp eyes. I'm expecting a sh%tshow because there's sex AND petulance AND journalism AND partisan politics involved. It is entirely possible even the NYTimes will be unable to cover this, since they signed an agreement with Iseman in 2009. Today I'm seeing NY Mag and Salon as RS so far. The show will escalate when TV newsrooms think they have enough cover. I think we've done a reasonable job as wikipedians on these pages to date, but I expect some passion to work its way into these pages over the next little while. Restore Pentagon UFO Reliable Source Edit[edit]

Hello OHNO The edit you archived about the Pentagon UFO videos now has a reliable source sites as the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. The edit is being removed with weird comments about‘flying spaghetti monsters…the original reliable source was reporting from the New York Times and the edit sited a quote directly from parties involved in the Pentagon proceedings. I look forward to your restoration of the edit. Sincerely An Editor — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.115.33.12 (talk) 21:28, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's clearly a consensus against your edits on that page. I agree with the rationals for reverting your edits (WP:FRINGE and WP:NOTNEWS); WP:UNDUE would also apply. You're free to propose changes and seek a consensus at Talk:Pentagon UFO videos. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:40, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

.—-Hello Ohno I think you missed the point of the edit. The original reliable source of the edit was a New York Times article titled “US govt finds no evidence that aerial sightings were alien spacecraft” no sarcasm about flying spaghetti creatures need apply. The NYT article addresses several times the publics concern about the reports possible ‘Other’ category dealing with possible alien intelligence by the participants who developed the study. The edit proposed seemed the most economical way to convey those thoughts expressed by a direct quote from the article. In fact the edit seemed the most rational thing to do, unless you consider the people who developed the report to be ‘fringe’. User: 96.250.66.163 making disruptive edits on pages about albums by The Wiggles[edit]

Hi Jamie, there’s a user, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/96.250.66.163, who’s making edits on pages for album by The Wiggles that are unnecessary. They started a few days ago, all their edits were reverted, and they’ve started again today, I’ve reverted all of their recent edits. I don’t think their gonna stop. Good morning, that persistent disruptive editing person who has been blocked many times using many different ip addresses is back. 2603.6011.DF01. His latest was the Jersey City Fire Department. Please assist. Thank you Doriden (talk) 14:51, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure that's the same user? The IPs geolocate to different states. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:54, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, not sure if related but I wanted to warn a disruptive IP user and seem you partially blocked their IPs as 2600:1017:B000:0:0:0:0:0/36, and as it seems your partial block "connects" it to other vandalising IPs, incl. a separately blocked, there is perhaps a better solution than just warnings for the specific IPs? Could you please look into it as I don't know anything about IP blocks etc. Thanks, WikiHannibal (talk) 06:11, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A quick primer on ranges (apologies if you already know this); with IPv6 ranges, anything range specifier lower than 64 is likely to cover multiple users (the lower the number, the larger the range); 36 is as low as the software allows a range block to be applied, as that's a huge range likely to affect thousands of possible users. As to whether it's useful to warn an individual IP, it depends on how "dynamic" their IP is. If it's changing rapidly (within minutes), it's much less likely that they'll even see any warning you post. If the address assignment lasts for hours or days, then yes you should try to warn them. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:29, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I did not know that. So basically they are probably thousands of different users and an IP used by a vandal can be used by a non-vandal the next day. I thought the range block from Linda Elriani meant they are connected somehow bcs their edits was mostly vandalism, including the same edits from different IPs (diff 1, diff), which is rare, though. No magic solution then. WikiHannibal (talk) 08:48, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ohnoitsjamie,

I was wondering if you would consider lowering protection on this draft page to extended confirmed or even to semi-protection while retaining admin-only status to the main space page. Otherwise, I think new editors will just create pages on slightly different titles like Draft:Uncle Waffles (DJ) or some other variation. Looking at this DJ's career online, she very well could be considered notable in a few years but not now. It might make sense to allow future drafts to be written by more experienced editors. Thank you for considering this option. Liz Read! Talk! 23:25, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vaultralph edit warring and making unsourced ethnicity edits again[edit]

Hey Jamie, you recently blocked this editor: Vaultralph (talk · contribs), giving them a final chance stating that they would be indeffed if they were to continue the same behaviour. I tried to ping you on their talk but not sure if it went through, but they did the same thing shortly after their block expired on Sámi, claiming a man was of this ethnicity citing their own original research of claiming it is common knowledge and examining his facial features, which is ridiculous. I added diffs on their talk page showing it, they were also recently reported to ANI. I think the indef is in order at this point. --TylerBurden (talk) 20:37, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Trees[edit]

Multiple sources say woody growth is not necessary to be a tree including the tree page on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gentilcore (talkcontribs) 22:17, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also in Tree: "Under such a definition, herbaceous plants such as palms, bananas and papayas are not considered trees regardless of their height, growth form or stem girth." Please talk further concerns to Talk:Banana. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:21, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That is only one of 5 definitions given on the page and its not scientifically accepted. As the tree page clearly states "Although "tree" is a term of common parlance, there is no universally recognised precise definition of what a tree is, either botanically or in common language." I've updated Talk:Banana — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gentilcore (talkcontribs) 22:31, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

National teams of Ice Hockey[edit]

Can you please stop removing this source. It is the primary source for historical national team data, there does not appear to be a better source online for nations that do not play at the top level.18abruce (talk) 15:34, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's a Wordpress site, and as such, doesn't meet WP:RS and violates WP:ELNO. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:35, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
First you said it was spam, which it clearly is not. Just a strange thing to do for a website that uses a website builder. They moved there because it was free so that makes it not reliable? Wow.18abruce (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It clearly does not meet WP:RS guidelines. I haven't removed any instances of it being used as a reference for now, but it certainly isn't appropriate per WP:ELNO as a standalone external link. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:48, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You made a pretty quick change from being mistaken to having multiple policy reasons, not just taking your word for it seems rather rational. Can you please point me to a specific discussion on why anyone using Wordpress would not be a reliable source. Additionally, what specifically is violated in WP:ELNO; it has more than 10 points and you are not providing anything more than a desire that the community just takes your word for it.18abruce (talk) 16:08, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what mistakes you are talking about. Please see WP:RSSELF and WP:UGC; the "about" portion at the bottom of the "nationalhockeyteams" page makes it clear that it falls under WP:UGC. By the same token, I would've thought it should be obvious that this falls under point 11 of WP:ELNO; Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites (negative ones included), except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities who are individuals always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.) You're free to appeal to WP:RSN if you think a case can be made to recognize this Wordpress site as a reliable source. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:42, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)I am certain that multiple users objecting to your removal of a source should have initiated a discussion, but you went ahead with it anyway. Since your page says that you are an administrator I hope that you have knowledge of what wikipedia is without me citing policies. You are talking about removing the basis of a significant amount of content on approximately 150 pages, take some care here and perhaps respect the people who know the content. The clear and obvious mistake was you calling the website spam, not sure how you could possibly backtrack on that.18abruce (talk) 16:52, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to take your concerns to WP:RSN. I'll abide by any new consensus established there that establishes that this personal Wordpress site meets reliable sources criteria. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:57, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Amir Sarkhosh[edit]

I would like to know what you and User:Lee Vilenski would suggest that I do about Draft:Amir Sarkhosh (2) and Draft:Amir Sarkhosh (billiards player). The two of you create-protected Draft:Amir Sarkhosh and Amir Sarkhosh in 2020 due to sockpuppetry. I moved a sandbox to Draft:Amir Sarkhosh (2) because the primary draft title is protected. It appears that the drafts and articles were deleted due to sockpuppetry rather than due to lack of notability. So should I review the two drafts (which appear to be identical), or should I wait until a sockpuppet investigation has been conducted into their authors also? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:56, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I compared a deleted draft against the current one; there are enough differences that it's probably not WP:DUCK sockpuppettry, but likely nonetheless given that we're dealing with an SPA. I'll file an SPI. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:45, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's worth noting that amateur snooker players are really rarely notable. I think this item is doing everything it can to try and show notability, but it seems really likely to me that this has some sock vibes to me. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:27, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ohnoitsjamie So I seem to be mistakenly involved in a problem that I'm not involved in, so the IP article, which is similar to mine, copied the exact text of the article from Everybodywiki, and part of the text of my article is taken from the same article, ie Everybodywiki The body wiki that I thought was part of the Wikipedia project and I thought was part of the wiki. If I make a mistake, delete my draft article so I can work on a healthy article from this person and wait.--Liyan baboo (talk) 22:55, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We're not interested in an article about that person; that's why the article target was salted, which I'm sure you noticed when you created a new draft with a (2) in the title. I'm confident that you're either (1) evading a block or (2) the subject of the draft or (3) being paid by the subject of the draft. The outcome for all of those is similar. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:36, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are wrong. I made the article in my draft without a title. Am I right? It was user:Robert McClenon who transferred the article to 2.--Liyan baboo (talk) 23:48, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Robertsky - Yes, that is the question. I saved it as (2) from a sandbox because the primary title was salted in draft space. There is also Draft:Amir Sarkhosh (billiards player). Robert McClenon (talk) 05:43, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Minor nitpick[edit]

Hi Ohnoitsjamie, if I may make a minor nitpick in case I'm not completely misunderstanding the situation, File:Dmitry Utkin.jpeg seems to have been uploaded in a genuine misunderstanding of the fair-use requirement "non-replaceable", looking at the text of the first page revision, which would – to my understanding – make it ineligible for the speedy deletion criterion F9 ("not claimed by the uploader to be fair use") and usually require a delayed deletion, as was specifically requested in the next revision. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 08:40, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This blocked editor mysteriously seems to be editing again — Epipelagic (talk) 09:29, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's a partial block on a very large IP range. We use partial blocks instead of full blocks sometimes to avoid too much "collateral damage"; that is, preventing good-faith editors who share that range from editing. That particular partial-block targets an WP:LTA who's on that large dynamic IP range. OhNoitsJamie Talk 11:57, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock Request[edit]

Trust me Jamie, my intention was not wrong. The blunder is that I didn't know much about Wikipedia guidelines. But now, for 3 days, i was continuously reading them. I found it was my mistake and I deserve to be block but for a limited time period, atleast. Trust me, life is incomplete without Wikipedia editing. Please forgive me, I promise I'll never do this type of shit again. And will try my best to make Wikipedia even more better. Hi, greetings,

We are running an edit-a-thon to newbies without Wikipedia User name.

I have a Event Coordinator's right that i can use for creating user names for participants during edit-a-thon.

I am unable to use the right because of the IP range block coming your username.

Removing sourced material[edit]

It's pretty funny that you checked me for "Removing sourced material" when that's literally all you did on your last edit on Breezy (album). You removed plenty of well sourced content without any valuable reason. You restored a version of the page dating back to when the album wasn't even released. Nowadays the album has been released, so your edit that is putting back the text "Breezy is the upcoming tenth studio album by American singer Chris Brown" is not that welcomed..... Especially when you put back a version of the page where Bruno Mars is listed as a featured artist on it, when he's literally nowhere to be found on the album. The way you left the link to the song "Call Me Every Day" as "[[[Call Me Every Day]]" shows me how much you care about the page. Please, stop ruining that page with this behavior. You're not helping that page being any better with these super-messy removals.

And by the way, I removed "Iffy" on the list of the album's official singles because it's a buzz single, scilicet a song that appears only as a bonus track on the album, that consequentially can't be the lead release off of it. Have a nice day--Big slime 2000 (talk) 14:57, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Several reliable sources describe it as a single from Breezy, period. I'd suggest you not continue to remove sourced material. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:58, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but those sources date back to when the album wasn't released, plans for it have changed since then--Big slime 2000 (talk) 15:03, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of template:spamlink[edit]

I am curious about your addition of {{spamlink}} to talk:Mistey4555. What is its purpose and should I use it? Not much documentation on the template/doc page. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 22:04, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It helps us identify and track spamming campaigns. Note the link on User_talk:Philippines_trade_data's talk page; the first two links (en and (https) show a summary of all pages where http and https links to that domain currently exist on Wikipedia. If previous users/IPs have a tracking tag (I put mine in the heading, but many people include it in the body of the warning), we'll see cases where other users have been warned about spamming that link. In this case of the aforementioned user, I was able to see a pattern of long-term spamming, leading me to blacklisting that site. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:16, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dredg update[edit]

Hi. Just an update. I've been receiving emails for the past year or so on the subject of the Dredg rangeblock, in my capacity of a crat, an individual arbcom member and others. Since the forum shopping is still ongoing, and we're only a few months away from the end of the block term, I believe that the vandalism is likely to return after the period ends, therefore the block is still appropriate and have extended it back up to 2 years. Hope that's ok with you! WormTT(talk) 07:44, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely support that given the time-wasting tedium inflicted on you and many others. I documented the LTA here; feel free to add to it if you'd like. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:56, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for blocking user[edit]

Hey Admin, This user User:Vikas Sharma223 and User:William6027 both are continuously making disruptive edits. Even after your warning, I saw them creating pages like Kashika and Mallika (These are not languages, these are their self analysis) I think both are same user. They are also violating rules like multiple account abuse. Please stop them from making these edits or put protection on these pages which they are continuously making disruptive edits. Thank you. Jilataap (talk) 14:38, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's not simple vandalism. They are providing sources, but from my casual reading of those sources, most seem to suggest that Kashika and Mallika are dialects; in most cases, information about dialects should be covered in the main article about the language, though there are exceptions to that (e.g., Flemish). We should try to get additional input from other editors knowledgeable in this topic. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:56, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for giving a warning to the user[edit]

Hello, I hope you are well and good. Actually this user User:Jilataap redirecting the Articles Page name are Kashika Language and Mallika language and also Changing the Languages of Many Articles like Gorakhpur,Varanasi,Kushinagar etc. Please stop him from Redirecting the referece attached Sourced pages and Unwanted Changes. And also Please fix the Both language Pages which I mentioned. Thank you. User: William6027 (talk) 20:38, 5 July 2022 (UTC) Vikas Sharma223 (talk) 15:13, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IMO, those both should be redirects, as the source you are adding suggest that those are dialects, not full-fledged languages. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:25, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As i told you this editor is abusing multiple accounts, which violates the rules like WP:SOCK, Please take action on him, He himself is saying that he edited these two pages, I saw these pages are created by these two different accounts. Jilataap (talk) 15:29, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File an WP:SPI. It's not clear cut sockpuppettry; it's plausible that there are multiple editors interested in advocating the language status of those dialects.OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:31, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please Don't merge the Language Pages[edit]

Kashika Language and Mallika language both are so different from Bhojpuri they have their own identity. Please don't merge these two language with Bhojpuri. They also have many sources and evidences and they don't have any relation with Bhojpuri. William6027 (talk) 15:32, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The sources you have added either say that they are dialects or are closely related to Bhojpuri. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:35, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wiki don't work on your personal analysis, Kashika and Mallika are dialects of bhojpur, Kashika dialect is spoken in Varanasi, you can check the language of Varanasi in government website: Varanasi.nic.in it is clearly written that language of Varanasi (Kashi) is bhojpuri not Kashika, Kashika is the dialect of bhojpuri language, I am from thr bhojpuri speaking are, I can see your IP address you're from begusarai that is thethi speaking area, please work on your language. Jilataap (talk) 15:41, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please discuss this issue here rather than at my talk page. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:42, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Track listings on Wikipedia[edit]

Track listings on Wikipedia do not have references sourced. Typically reserved for samples, album reissues, or the personnel section, to give additional clarification or context. Take a look pages for popular R&B/Hip Hop albums like Blue Water Road, Honestly Nevermind, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, DS4Ever, none of them have references. Classic albums like Sign o' the Times, OK computer, Rubber Soul, also do not have unless as mentioned for one of the 3 scenarios prior.

Credits are available publicly on Spotify, right click on a song then click credits. or check the official youtube topic page of the artist it will show in the infobox below.

That's all very exciting, but we require reliable sources without exception for credits. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:15, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking very wide IP range 2A02:587:0:0:0:0:0:0/32[edit]

How come you blocked such a huge range? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:2A02:587:0:0:0:0:0:0/32

In this talk page I see a message in Albanian (translator says "Good morning or good evening"):

Mirëmëngjes ose mirëmbrëma. It's better if you create an account as a new editor. It has many benefits as explained at the page Wikipedia:Why create an account?. --Maleschreiber (talk) 20:25, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

This area is Greece, Chalkidiki. So have you essentially blocked all IPs (from one ISP?) in the prefecture or maybe just the village near me? I'm not sure how this all works tbh. The IP I got went like 2A02:587:D401:.....

Weird Simanos (talk) 15:29, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the edits from that range were vandalism. Editors on that range who wish to edit constructively can request an account via WP:ACC. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:31, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why you delete my edits on Christoper Pike page for no reason?[edit]

What's the reason for the deletion? You didn't give a reason. You just deleted. That is vandalism.124.246.69.248 (talk) 06:01, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is most definitely not vandalism. Please see WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:EL. External links should be kept at a mininum, and are not to be used inline. Rather than linking to an archive in the External links section, it's more appropriate to use a book template with an ISBN link, as I've done. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:47, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Gallagher Fact[edit]

The facts keep being removed from the Dan Gallagher bio. He created a local band in Toronto and this fact was added to his bio. It keeps being removed, along with the reference, as an opinion. It is not an opinion when the reference stated the fact that he solely began the band before he died. Also, it is NOT an opinion when the band stated that Gallagher was a huge supporter of Canadian music talent. Kenh37 (talk) 19:53, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can take your concerns to Talk:Ken Akamatsu rather than edit-warring from rapidly-changing IP addresses. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:57, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those IPs are probably sockpuppets of this user, since previous IPs doing the same edits have been blocked as socks of this user. Link20XX (talk) 14:59, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rapidly-changing IP addresses? It's not even my fault, I'm bus-travelling. You can't blame me for that. And they started it all. I even told them not to start an edit war because it wasn't worth it.

Ah, thanks for the SPI link, that's what I needed. Blocked. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:17, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Block request[edit]

Hi Jamie. I come here since you have blocked Special:Contributions/2A04:4A43:4D00:0:0:0:0:0/40 twice before. In late June 2022 they made a rather vile PA on my talk page and were determined to having used multiple accounts, including an account that was blocked one month for disruptive editing (SPI, block log). They have been edit warring again at a number of pages ([13] [14] [15]) and are generally disruptive. Could you hand out a longer range block? Hi Jailie. On Breezy you added the genres 'afro fusion' and 'hip hop' with the HIPHOPDX source. Can you please tell me where exactly those genres are mentioned for the Breezy album on the source. Just want to thank you for your pblock of 2A02:2F0D:B000:0:0:0:0:0/36 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)). It's WP:LTA/WKHF, he's still out there and he seemed to be in Italy recently.. wizzito | say hello! 06:14, 28 July 2022 (UTC)}[reply]

The timestamps between Romanian IPs and the Italian ones don't quite match, however. Separate person with the same obscure overlap (Conjuring Universe and animals/Wild Kratts) would be quite... interesting. wizzito | say hello! 06:16, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can see examples at the editing history of Valac; one day with a Romanian IP, the next with an Italian, or both a Romanian and Italian IP in the same day (on The Conjuring 2). It could also be an imitator or a friend. Range of the Italian editor seem to be 62.18.0.0/16 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) and 62.19.0.0/16 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)). wizzito | say hello! 06:21, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can only add 10 targets to the partial block on the 36 range; however, I did add an additional handful of targets to an overlapping range. I'll take a look at those other ranges as well. Note that I try to avoid full rangeblocks if there is a fair amount of constructive editing from said range. OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:40, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that page protection is a much better solution here; considering the amount of ranges used and the fact that I think that they got a friend in another country to make edits for them. Page protection has worked against this LTA before. wizzito | say hello! 04:27, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User and IPs making edits to Peacock Princess article[edit]

Hi. A few IPs edited the Peacock Princess article back in March. All of them are from a range that you since blocked for LTA. A new editor has since been making edits to the article, as well as a few others, with a Vietnam focus. Could you check and see if the user's editing patterns match the LTA, in which case an SPA may be warranted? Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:14, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if it's the same user; the user I was targeting had a very belligerent editing pattern. User:Donald Trung is a bit more familiar with that LTA. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:54, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Re the Kim Novak article & its multiple image-wars...[edit]

Thanks for protecting it. This particular article seems to attract ongoing image edit-wars, every so often - image-wars have at least happened in July 2021 and then again in July 2022. Casually looking over edits from the past year or so, my WP:DUCK sock-radar is going off a bit - the participating editors have few other edits, they obsessively edit the Novak article only about the images, they also interact with each other, they edit the Novak article for less than a month, etc. I don't think there's enough evidence to file a SPI, not even sure which editors I would file it about, but I am certainly sitting here going "Hmmm..." Settling misunderstandings[edit]

I only wish to tidy up the adolescent development articles on Wikipedia because many of them are rather flawed. I am not trying to ruin them with dishonesty, but rather I am trying to be more honest and elaborate to clear up confusion many people have. The adolescent article in some places is somewhat outdated as maturation/growth is seen to continue after 25 in many areas, and that should elaborated on specifically and stated. 10-25 is also a more up-to-date understanding of what constitutes a scientific understanding of 'adolescence'. Researchers would tell you the changes don't stop after this period, but that it is a very special period of one's life nonetheless. If you have any questions I will provide relevant sources. Schwarbage (talk) 04:37, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For reasons that I don't understand, there are at least two different banned users who have repeatedly targeted articles in these categories, which is why I have these articles on my watchlist and why I'm suspicious when I see new editors fiddling with the numbers. You created an account, proceeded to make 10 edits to video game and biography articles (triggering [[WP:AUTOCONFIRMED|autoconfirmed status]), then edited the semi-protected Ephebophilia.

Furthermore, many people in the community, myself included, believe it's pointless and disruptive to argue about these ages; you can decide that 10-12 is the range for something, and then I can easily find another reasonable source that says it's 11-13. Human development articles can and should make it clear that ages and age ranges of milestones are approximate. I'm going to continue scrutinizing edits on articles in these categories for these reasons. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:30, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive Updates/Editing[edit]

Hey Jamie, I am fairly new to the wiki ring but I had worked on a page and I have a user that continues to make unnecessary edits that constantly need to be fixed/reverted/updated. It almost seems as if the user is making the updates just for the sake of making an update and other users have to go in and correct the edits. Hello. You wouldn't know me, but I frequently edit soap opera articles and we have been vandalised numerous times by this IP address. If you recall your exchange with [18], then you probably also remember the offensive edit summaries Abovfold was using at File:Dmitry Utkin.jpeg. At the end of his edit summary, he writes "Anyway, death to the orcs, and Slava Ukraini". In this context, "ocrs" means "Russians".[19][20] I think a block is totally warranted at this stage. >>> Extorc.talk 15:53, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Medjool Dates[edit]

Hey was just eating some of my dates and wanted to read about them, I see this page has gone thru the back and forth of Israel and Palestinian contention but my box clearly says product of Palestine. Objection of deletion of 1954 Bowman Football Card Set[edit]

You can dispute the prod (proposed deletion) by removing those tags. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:42, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ohnoitsjamie, I saw your edit, but let me remind these people said Elcano was Biscayne, which is not the same as being from the "Basque Nationality" (a nationality that has never existed, btw) and looking at the National Geographic page you mentioned, yes indeed they say he was Basque born in the Basque Country, but inside of Spain, they talk about his return to Spain, I will quote National Geographic "Elcano did not suffer from a lack of fame in his country on his return. Europe’s most powerful man, Charles V, the king of Spain and Holy Roman emperor, duly praised and rewarded the captain who had so heroically completed the voyage." they even claim how the expedition was Spanish (of course including people from all parts of Spain, such as Basques or Andalosians, as well as from other nationalities, such as Portuguese) as you can see no one denies he was Spanish, because he was born Castilian and he died Spanish.

Yes, he was also Basque, like an American can be a Californian or like a French can be Corsican or a Italian can be Sardinian. That doesn't remove the fact he was Spanish, which is the desire of the 3 nationalistic Basque users that keep monopolizing that page for some years... I just encourage you to check the Basque Wikipedia to see how there is no mention on the real place he was born (they say it was born in "Euskal Herria" which was a concept that was firstly mentioned by Basque Nationalists in the 19th century) no mention in the lead nor in an important place to the Spanish Empire and even less to Castile, even if he was born Castilian inside the Kingdom of Castile.

I am okay with keeping he was Basque as well in the lead. I think the Nationality tag in the infobox should be deleted, as proposed 2 years ago by other users. Since this is controversial. Like in the Carles Puigdemont given example in the long RfC he had (you can see it in Elcano's talk page) and Puigdemont denies he is Spanish, while there is no historical claim Elcano has ever deniend being Spanish or Castilian since he was Castilian/Spanish, we can say he was also Basque as the sources say Biscayne (which doesn't automatically remove the fact he can also be Spanish/Castilian) so I think it's better to keep it this way. And let's not forget Elcano lost his life while trying to claim a Moluccan island for the Spanish Empire. He gave his life for Spain. That doesn't make him less Basque, but neither doesn't remove the fact he died Spanish and also that he was born in the Crown of Castile. What do you think?

Here is the National Geographic official source for Elcano, where you can find most of what I've wrote above: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/history-magazine/article/this-man-was-actually-first-to-sail-around-the-world 84.125.64.219 (talk) 01:25, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Take your concerns to the talk page, not here. If you continue removing source material, you will be blocked from editing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:10, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohnoitsjamie: Such concerns have been noted by me and other users in 2019-2020 and no one seemed to care yet 3 users still kept monopolizing that page because of their own nationalistic/political views. I think it would be better if we had more support (normal users like me) from Wiki admins, because this is something noticed on that article for years, and it seems no one cares that 3 users monopolize such page. I got no reply on the talk page. Neither people that wrote 2-3 years ago, besides someone edited it today putting the source from above and manipullating the content from the source... Isn't this block range a bit excessive?[edit]

Now, Claro is now issuing IPv6 addresses so I'm mostly safe of this, but blocking 181.115.0.0/17 seems like... a huge amount of potential users for what's the actions of what seems to be just one particular individual (whose actions are so bizarrely themed -previously internal flags, now fake shade names- that I am unsure whether they're a troll or just some kid with too much time and not enough reading comprehension skills). I know it's more time needed from the moderation team to be spent hunting them down whenever they pop up, but I also think that the site should be welcoming to as many people as possible - and that includes anonymous users from countries where static addresses are not the norm.

Hi Ohnoitsjamie. You've taken an administrative decision and I cannot interfere there, but please note that two of the three have also suggested some modification to the text, and while I am the only person left to have opposed it, I believe that the text should be adjusted to explain the problems with the findings and more importantly their inability to be probed by ordinary people per usual scientific convention. So yes, there is consensus for the table being included, but not it seems for the presentation text. Any objections? --Coldtrack (talk) 16:51, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to add those notes; I've already added one about North Korea. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:00, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your effort. Sorry to be a bit of a bore here though I just want to ask you one thing. What you did was absolutely fine, though are you aware that the article contains two separate tables, and that the one which I was opposed to including was the second one. The one which you edited I fully support, as it is replete with sample sizes, times of survey, age range plus other things though most importantly a plethora of notes before the table explaining why the reliability of it should be treated with caution. The second table, which was the topic of the RfD was a plain drawn-out conclusive-looking list concentrating on estimates for 19-year olds in 2019 and said to have been based on data from 1985 until that year. My argument against it, and what @Juicy Oranges: also said after changing his vote was that we cannot scrutinise the findings of that second table, hence the reason I opposed it, and hence the reason Juicy Oranges (after reconsidering) and @Alaexis: suggested adding notes. Sorry for being technical now, but the difference between the first eclectic list, and the second one published by one source, was that the first largely focuses on arithmetic mean while the second reports "median", which means (regarding North Korea no less), we just don't know what the premise was for reporting North Koreans on that second table. OK, the source will claim that it examined X, Y and Z surveys in North Korea, yet if it were that simple and stats were freely available, I doubt we would have needed to rely on North Korean defectors for the opposite; that in itself demonstrates the difficulty in obtaining information when the governing apparatus keeps its cards close to its chest :))))) . Remember, you don't need two different surveys for comparing mean and median; it is a case of laying out the numbers you have and doing different things with them. Let me know what you think. Warmest regards. --Coldtrack (talk) 18:25, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was simply trying to respond to one of the suggestions in the talk page regarding the data, which I apparently misread as originating from the Lancet source; I see now that NK is not mentioned speficically in Lancet, so I will remove that. Otherwise, the blurb at the top of the table seems to clearly describe the origins of the data, regardless of whether or not it provides the raw data. The inclusion of a reliable source is not predicated on that source making raw data readily available. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:59, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right, yeah I am glad you noticed what I said. You're right, when a reliable source generally says something, Wikipedia takes it as factual. Only this time, it is a major claim which purports to have obtained voluminous substantial data. That's why there is WP:ONUS. But moving on towards a constructive outcome, I am happy to go away and think about how to word the preface. That might in the long run lead to another RfC but as the saying goes, we'll all have to play it by ear. Thanks for your time in replying. Regards. --Coldtrack (talk) 19:34, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your emails, and Abuse Filter 1164[edit]

Hi Ohnoitsjamie! I hope things have been going well for you and that life is treating you kindly. :-) I wanted to follow up with our email conversation; I saw in my alerts list on-wiki that you had emailed me, but (if I remember correctly) I responded, we chatted, and all was good. I wanted to double-check with you and make sure that I didn't miss a response that came from you that I didn't follow up with. :-)

Update: I just found the email you sent me. I have no idea why, but a few messages that I received over the last week or two were deleted without me even opening them. I must've accidentally done that while checking my Wikipedia mailbox on my mobile device. Please accept my apologies! I'm responding to you now. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:55, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I took some time and re-organized all of the code on edit filter #1164 (one that I see that you've been making a lot of changes and updates to). I wanted to let you know so that you could check it out and make sure that I didn't miss anything. I also wanted to give you a heads up in case any weird false positives or hits start being logged that aren't supposed to happen and as a result of my changes. Let me know if you see anything come up and I'll take a look ASAP. I always like to have more than just my pair of eyes watching the log when a change like this is deployed; I obviously can't be online and watching it 24/7, so I thank you in advance for your input, feedback, and time. By the way, if you're ever interested in learning more or just expanding your comfort and learning with regex and code, let me know! I'll be happy to arrange a one-on-one with you and share some knowledge! :-D

Anyways, that is all that I have at the moment! If you have questions, need anything, just let me know (ping me if you respond below) and I'll be happy to help! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:46, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; one thing, I understand how cc_norm works but I don't know how to test it when I'm diagnosing false positives, which is why I usually "roll my own" version of it that I can test in a regex container. I see there was a recent false positive on 1164. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:41, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

Thank you for your concern of my 'irrelevant ʼ information but all the edits I make are of relevancy and the edits I have made so far are of facts because for one, I watch Faith Nketsi's show, i listen to both SsgKobe and Ka$hdami plus I listen to the South African singer/songwriter, Elaine. So I do my edits based on my knowledge. I respect your concern but any edits I make is of facts. Thank you. Hf FMI fn (talk) 12:08, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure where you got "irrelevant" from, but the problem with your edits was that they were unsourced. Your own personal knowledge does not qualify as a reliable source. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:23, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could you look again at the Cyber Anakin RFPP?[edit]

Hey. Sorry for asking this directly and if this is out of order, could you look again at the Cyber Anakin RFPP please? Over the last day or so the IP editor has been showing up on a new proxy, as old ones get blocked. While Malcolmxl5 has just blocked the latest IP proxy, I'm fairly confident that we'll see another one shortly. Thanks. Sideswipe9th (talk) 20:43, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at it again; I'm not convinced that protection is warranted at this point given the history. If someone else wants to protect I won't object, but I'm not going to protect it at this point. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:45, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I realise it's a judgement call, just thought I'd ask just in case. Thanks. Sideswipe9th (talk) 20:47, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I gave it a week, because otherwise I feel like it'll be whack-a-mole with more proxies if we keep blocking the IPs. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:49, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There have been many time I've protected an article, and then when I went to update the status on the RFPP board, someone else had just declined protection; ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:08, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there's a lot of that, I see it at AIV too. I'll start monitoring someone to see if they continue, and see they're blocked a minute or two later. I guess that's why RFA is mostly just about how people feel about candidates, since it's mostly judgement. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:10, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting additional IP blocks[edit]

Hi Jamie,

I see you've blocked the IP vandals for the Allison Stokke and Chapman University articles and wanted to thank you for that. I also wanted to bring to your attention a few more IPs that may have gone under the radar here: [1], [2], [3]. I'm also wondering if you could also apply the 1-2 year ban on this IP as well, since they've only received 31 hours.

I don't know who is so hellbent on getting back at Allison Stokke, Lydia Ko or Chapman U. Pretty bizarre. Never mind the fact that they've been at this for months!!

Thanks. — That Coptic Guy (talk) 02:43, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

174.251.167.177 will be covered under this partial rangeblock. The others appear to be one-offs; no other obvious disruption from those ranges, no recent disruption. I think it would be premature to block them at this point, but if any of them become active again, definitely. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:34, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

question about RFPP[edit]

Hi Jamie,

I came across alot of disruptive editing in NHL 23 and I was wondering if you would get a harsher consequence if you request a RFPP while blocked.

Thanks, 45BearsFan. 45BearsFan (talk) 19:46, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are blocked from making RFPP requests for a reason. Trying to evade that block could lead to a wider block. I suggest you not go that route. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:02, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I had previously written something saying I will never let go of the truth and was gonna drop the entire fall thing and about going and telling anyone who I meet about my findings . No winners or losers. Cited something to Wikipedia library which is definitely not proof that contradicts the truth. Trolling is trying to start an argument is what I consider trolling.I’ve told this person, that the evidence I have is proof about him being fine and this person is trying to cite sources that have no fruit. Meaning proof to a glitch in the database. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joytotherainbow (talkcontribs) 02:39, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're making an assertion on and article page, and Jlvsclrk and I disputed those assertions. That's hardly trolling. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:52, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

E I understand it’s not fully trolling but trying to convince to someone that evidence that is proof that an incident never happened is false but you fail to present real evidence like race records or clues that those articles are telling the truth. I interpret that as wanting to start an arguement. No real proof like official racing records to a track. No convincing me. They keep getting dates and numbers mixed up so that’s definitely a red flag. As long as no hate speech occurs toward me. I will revert any edits unless real evidence comes such as a from equibase cause newspapers.com adds stuff and how am I supposed to know that it’s an accurate, true piece of info. I don’t know why you are so trusting of, if articles say it, it must be true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:4EA0:D80:9D0:C34D:252B:4508 (talk) 20:13, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A deletion from the article about Carl Eric Wickman[edit]

Jamie (I assume):
You deleted a new sentence from the article about Carl Eric Wickman, by reverting the preceding addition.
The deleted sentence was a correct statement.
Regrettably, however, the previous user had not taken the trouble to explain the noteworthy relationship between Wickman and those four women.
The significant and interesting background is that Wickman's daughter, Margaret "Betty", married Ralph A.L. Bogan,
who was one of the original busmen in Hibbing, Minnesota – who started in competition with Wickman but soon collaborated with him.
Bogan later long served as the executive vice president of The Greyhound Corporation under the presidencies of both Wickman and Orville Swan "Swede" Caesar.
He also managed the Greyhound transit services at the World’s Fairs in Chicago in 1933-34, in Cleveland in 1936-37, and in New York City in 1939-40.
Further, during World War II he served as a commissioned officer (a commander) in the US Naval Reserve,
and he organized and operated transport services for the federal Office of Defense Transportation (ODT).
Bogan led an illustrious career with Greyhound during 1914-56.
You can read more about Bogan starting here (in one of my articles at my own website –
and more about Wickman starting here (in that same article).
No, I'll not make any additions to the page about Wickman at the Wikipedia – because I no longer make edits at Wikipedia.
If you feel interested in the reason for which I no longer actively take part at the Wikipedia, you can read about it here (on the homepage of my website).
Sadly, the Wikipedia article about Wickman contains many inaccurate and misleading staements.
However, there's abundant correct information in my article here (at my website) – in case you or anyone else wishes to improve the article about Wickman.
Cheers!
Doc – Doc Rushing – DocRushing (talk) 22:55, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's great, but there were two problems with that edit (1) it was not reliablly sourced and (2) the edit was made by a block evading user. Also with noting is that your Wordpress site would definitely not qualify as a reliable source under our policies. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:00, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply.
Abundant reliable data (including genealogical data) – about Bogan and about the relationships among Wickman, his daughter, Bogan, his wives, and their children – are available online.
If any other user feels interested enough in the subject matter, that person can find that material and research it, just as I did – and then add to the article about Wickman – at least about the marriage between Betty and Bogan.
It's unfortunate that the blocked user did not take the trouble to properly present his addition and explain the rest of the story about the relationships.
Cheers!

Reliable resource - Resume[edit]

Hi Ohnoitsjamie,

thank you for checking my contribution to the article 'Résumé'. However, you deleted the entire section stating that the resource is not reliable. I would like to challenge your statement as the resource mentioned is used as a reference by several universities:

https://modlangs.gatech.edu/germanstudentresources (Georgia Institute of Technology) https://www.uni-ulm.de/universitaet/karriere/career-service/fuer-studierende/informationen-zur-bewerbung/ (Universitaet Ulm) http://mebib-intern.informatik.hs-augsburg.de/www/jobs.html (Hochschule Augsburg)

I believe the section inculding the reference can be published in the way I proposed. In my view this surely adds value.
