Rosamund Pike Birthday Problem

Hello, It seems I have unwittingly been swept up into a lengthy editing dispute over what the true birthday of Rosamund Pike is. I have viewed your contributions and noticed a lengthy history, on your part, of various contributions to that page. As we are both legitimate editors, desiring nothing less than to improve the quality of Wikipedia in what small ways we can and thus contribute to this component of the so-called Information Age, I wish to determine with certainty what the birthday of the said actress is, so that any future confusion can be avoided.

You seem to know a great deal about Rosamund Pike, and therefore I will take your word for it that her birthday is not January 27, despite the various sources which state that it is. I would point out that the link you put in your invisible comments, which is to an Instagram page where you say Ms. Pike herself states that January 27 is not her birthday, does not work, perhaps because Instagram deletes pages after a certain time (although I have no account on Instagram, and do not know if that is the case). In any case, your edit is not satisfactory in that it provides no basis for determining what her true birthday is. Another user made an edit to the effect that her birthday is January 28, though I found only one source stating this and you would consider it about as reliable as iMDB, from what I have seen of you. If Rosamund Pike has, in fact, never revealed what her actual birthday is, you should make this clear to the Wikipedia community to avoid mistakes from more people.

The lack of certainty regarding Rosamund Pike's birthday is a disturbing problem in a time when all things, especially important dates, are widely documented. I will be putting her page on my watchlist for the time being. I encourage you to respond, either here on your talk page or on mine, if you wish. If you do not respond after three months, I will start looking to others for authoritative information to resolve the matter.

Hi @AMBtheMarylander2102: I wholeheartedly agree with your statement in the next to last paragraph. It is really annoying that the correct birthday of an actress who has been in the business for over 20 years is still unknown!

27 January was the date given in the very first version of this Wikipedia article (2002) and elsewhere, but Rosamund Pike has repeatedly stated that it is wrong. In an interview with the Austrian newspaper Kurier in 2014 she said (my translation):

"I know there are all kinds of false statements about my person circulating on the internet. None of it is true. Neither my date of birth nor my middle name ['Elizabeth'] nor my parents' profession. Both are opera singers and my mother is not a concert violinist, as claimed. Nor do I speak the languages I am supposed to know."

On 27 January 2021, she wrote on Instagram (I can still see the post, by the way):

"It’s my internet birthday! (Somewhat different from my real birthday) This is me and my Dad some time in the Summer of my birth year, 1979, at the moment I discovered the fascination of eyebrows."

Several users asked her what her "real birthday" was, but the only thing they elicited from her was: "I am definitely an Aquarius." So she must have been born between 20 January and 18 February 1979 – nothing more precise has been substantiated so far, I believe. 28 January is a good candidate because it competed with 27 January for a long time (including at IMDb and here), but I haven't seen a good source for it either. – Niels Wrschowitz (talk) 23:47, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt reply. I would have responded yesterday, but it was getting late in my area. It seems, then, that the matter is unfortunately unsolved and shall remain so for now. I appreciate the information. I hope you don't mind that I got onto your talk page and demanded a response, but you must understand, this was the first instance in the short three months I have been actively editing that an edit I made was rebuked, and therefore I had to investigate.
