Basis for deleting MC Mystic? BabuBhatt 18:56, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of multiplayer maps for Halo 2[edit]

The report you sent me[edit]

Inherently a game guide, providing little meaningful material but that which appears to have been copied directly from the manual and various websites. Patent gamecruft. Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 08:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Note: This deletion is very similar to List of maps in Battlefield 2142 and List of maps in Company of Heroes, which I believe set a precedent for this to be removed. Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 08:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Delete, this is unencyclopaedic gamecruft. I'm also concerned that using that many screenshots in the article is probably not fair use. Thryduulf 10:12, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Delete We're not a mapping resource for gameplayers. KillerChihuahua?!? 10:43, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Delete. I still despise the word cruft. But nominator has provided ample reasoning and precedent for deletion. - Mgm|(talk) 11:07, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Delete per nom. Debate[edit]

Okay, I do know that the page was very much incomplete, but it's a work in progress. Plus, it was on the requested page list for HaloWikiProject. It wasn't copied from any manual or website as was stated in the report, nor is it "cruft." As I said in the talk page, I was planning on improving it. Plus, there weren't any screenshots in the entire page. Why were screenshots even mentioned in the report? Please consider this, I'm wanting to improve this site however I can, but I need the opportunity.

Atomic Squash[edit]

I'm relatively new to this. Why can the existing KAMB article mention Midnight Massacre LARP at Origins and I cannot mention the KAMB LARP at Archon 30? I did not see how the Origins paragraph rises to the level of reliable sources you expect me to meet.

There is more justification for the KAMB entry and Atomic Squash article on this page: User_talk:Pascal.Tesson

why did you delete the page?[edit]

I conducted an interview with Ryan Burns, it was not an expierment, and I tried to post the results of that interview as an article on Wikipedia. If you could just get back to me and let me know why you deleted it, that would be great. Thanks

Why, please WHY DID YOU DELETE THE PAGE[edit]

Why would u delete the page on Bryce Adams. He is a profound film maker and you have just thrown the article out like THAT. You have no respect for film making, and obviously no life. please email me at bryceadATgmailDOTcom and let me know why you deleted it. I really look up to him.

Why did you delete the page on Bill Topich? You said it belonged in the test pages. I disagree. How much fame do you need to be posted here?

why on earth did you delete this page?[edit]

Thanks again. I'm sorry I got angry at you. Thank you for preserving Wikipedia from spammers. Sorry about the high lord heilio-whatever-it-was-thing. that was really over the top.

Why would you delete?[edit]

Why would you delete the page about BridgeMonkeys??? And we were making it so nice... What's the matter???

You deleted the views of a small poor nation[edit]

We the nation of Chewmerica are in outrage over your deleting of our glorious leaders views on the Nth Korean nuclear test. we want answers, for proof of such nation visit http://www.myspace.com/chewmerica, you can see our leader and his cabinet discuss this terrifying issue. We hope that our leaders view on this issue can be voiced on wikipedia soon, our nation can not afford web space anywhere else.

Sorry[edit]

Thank you for removing the Infinience article and I have removed a subsequent article I was in the act of writing about an app of the company. I read the WP:CORP article, and will follow it accordingly. Thank you! -- Ubergenius 15:09, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roni Lynn Deutch[edit]

I was told I could recreate the article if it was substantially different, and I guess what is substantially different is in the eye of the beholder. But if you look at the old article and this one, you will see they are completely different. I don't mean to create trouble by readding it but the deleting admin said that I could. I was able to find a reliable source that talks about her television commercials, and I feel strongly that the article is much better and fits the standards to be included. If you want to still delete it, then yes I will seek a deletion review. And I will get blocked for readding an article that I was told I could? That hardly seems fair.--mathewguiver 14:42, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see the page is now deleted and protected. Why was this article not given a chance in afd?--mathewguiver 14:47, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User: Louis Shum 2[edit]

NawlinWiki, I respect your efforts, but the user behind that particular user name is not 'Louis Shum'. I have had previous adminstrators work on deleting libelous segments of that page, which is pretty much the whole thing.

Previously the same impersonator used 'Louis Shum' as a user name; you may see that currently the user name is locked for good.

I have a pretty good idea about who the person in question is, but no proof. Even then there is very little I can do.

If one was to type in "Louis Shum" in Google, that particular page full of colorful fiction is the top search result - you can imagine how stressful this would be if someone done this to your own real name. (as in the one in your passports and and bank statements)

I have followed through Wiki guidelines on dealing with the dispute already; I ignored, I requested to delete it politely, I tried for mediation but its non-binding.

Wikipedia is not censored - but for articles there would be standards on the biography of living persons. Why not userpages?

Nawlin, my comments on pederasty were not vandalism but factually accurate statements. I think your warning is unfounded. I would like some way to resolve these differences amongst us or go to a conflict resolution.

Help needed w/ duplicate pages[edit]

Hi Nawlin, could use your expert opinion on how to handle a situation. I've been helping a newbie (who's not that great at English) cleaning up a series of articles. One of them, 9th Street Art Exhibition was nominated for AfD (here [1]) in what appears to be a bad-faith nomination. The editor seems to have become frustrated with the process, has changed his/her vote a couple of times, now is going by a different name ("Protector") and, what I'm asking you about here, has now created a duplicate article with a slightly different name, Ninth Street Show. It looks like the AfD will end up with a "keep", so should this new one be speedied now, or wait for the AfD to close? Or, would it be more appropriate to simply redirect the new one to the old one? Thanks for your guidance. Akradecki 15:35, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment This whole thing is becoming very troubling. Yes I am a new contributor but I am far from being stupid or naive or “confused.” I was educated in the US and I have earned my Ph.D. in 1979. One of my books earned the title: "Outstanding Academic Title" by CHOICE, Academic Library Magazine, 2003. I still do not know who is ITY who did the "bad-faith nomination" but what I do know that Akradeckiand Modernist are the same.

Akradeckiat his user page writes: "When I need a break from writing, I can be found patrolling special: newpages and voting in AfD...I've put a lot of time into writing and editing articles to make this encyclopedia better, and I don't like see all the real junk that shows up to clutter the place." This statement can be a really big problem for wikipedia!Modernistat his user page writes: "Thank you to Wikipedia editors for helping me. 74.66.233.248 is me too." Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Modernist" This is again Akradecki's user site since he is using my own words in this page which was an earlier response of mine to his criticism. So consequently Akradeckiand Modernist are the same. I still wonder who is ITY!? Should the initiator of the deletion process have no responsibility? Is it free for all? Can one create a fictitious Modernist and using a stolen identity i.e. quoting me? These activities can lead to real problems. I do believe that what I am doing is a solid service and I even pay for it. Thank you for redirecting the article Ninth Street Show. Protector

I'm not sure how you're connecting me to User:Modernist. This is my only account. Akradecki 17:26, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I fixed the duplicate article and closed the AFD -- I'm staying out of any debate between the above users, and asking them to do any further debating somewhere other than my talk page. NawlinWiki 17:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm trying to not lose my cool, but Hercovic/protector/ doesn't appreciate those of us who have been helping her. I am editing since June and I've helped her along with Akradecki, but not any more. I'm getting annoyed by her ridiculous and foolish behavior. Her accusations are like her editing -- not accurate. Incidentally I wrote the "thank you to editors" comment in August, because I appreciated being helped. She doesn't write her similar comment to Akradecki till mid-September. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeff Cavins[edit]

Hi there! My original reason for requesting speedy deletion of the Jeff Cavins article was as a copyvio of the website http://www.jeffcavins.com/About/. At the bottom of that page, there is the following copyright notice: All content herein copyright 2003 Jeff Cavins unless otherwise noted :: jeffcavins.com. Does this still require an AFD, or can it be speedied for copyvio? I appreciate your help! --NMChico24 20:48, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

proposed James Dicks deletion[edit]

May I ask that you inform user 66.193.232.253 on the proper way to propose a deletion and the issues and policies involved in the article James Dicks? I think I've properly explained it to him on the talk page, but I'd like to be fair. The main issue to me is that he has wanted to use the article as puffery and self-advertisement, and wanted to delete anything - however well documented-- that is critical. Thanks for any help possible.Smallbones 11:38, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question??? How can I add this section for the Famous SEO's Bruce Clay? What did I do that was wrong or spam?

I was referencing the other SEO's on the Search Engine Optimization Page and followed the wiki style from Jill Whalen.

Why would that wiki post pass and Bruce Clay's did not...

Whacker Response[edit]

Though I know it is my responsibility to show factual information, it does not give you the right to say its not factual just because you are ignorant on the subject of volunteer emergency services. If you don't know anything about this subject and refuse to contact anyone to see if its factual, then why would you tag the page for speedy deletion. That is like me tagging your John Anderson page because I have no idea who he is. I don't know anything about sports so i should just ASSUME what you say is false? No, I'm not going to do that. Why? Because unlike some people, not saying you, I do not refute information that I am not aware of. But hey, thats me. Don't you think I have a point. If I were you I would be like, "yeah, he has a point. I think I will also take the initiative to find out if this is correct because I jumped to conclusions without all the information". At least thats what i would do. ----thejax

Not an attack redirect[edit]

Didn't mean to offend anybody. We discussed this here: [3]. The University of New Jersey at Durham redirects to Duke, so I don't see why UNC nicknames wouldn't qualify. -Bluedog423Talk 03:56, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sounds good to me. I personally agree with you on this topic and think none of them should exist at all as I explained in the AfD discussion. I just created them because at the end it seemed like that's what people wanted. Also, when closing the discussion it was noted: "Please note that whilst I've recreated the article as a redirect to UNC-Duke rivalry, that is not part of this afd closure, the redirect destination can be changed via discussion on the article's talk page." I guess User:Remember didn't bother to have a discussion and took it upon himself to redirect it already. I'm still unclear though. If University of New Jersey at Durham redirects to UNC-Duke rivalry why shouldn't Carowhina and others also redirect to UNC-Duke rivalry? -Bluedog423Talk 04:09, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks for your reply, I read the article(s) you posted and still cannot see why it was deleted other than for being re-created, it has been edited from the version that was deleted the first time too. It did not contain any advetising material, such as "Go here it's great" I actually editied out the advertisement that was copied from the origional site. In addition to this it is not a commercial entity per se, I.E. - It's free...

Hi, I was editing this when you deleted it, although I did not create it. I believe it could have been a good article, if it had been sourced and wikified. I know one editor marked it as nonsense, but I don't think that was a correct tag. Mapetite526 15:45, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see you're on NP patrol and I wonder could you give me a hand. The Trashment day article is completely nn - it's a party invitation literally made up in school. I've tagged and retagged it as A7, warned the creator with {{drmspeedy}} but the tag is repeatedly removed by an anon. Any chance of taking a look and, if I'm right about its non-notability, deleting (there's a huge backlog of speedies and you're liable to miss this one anyway as the tag's not there half the time...). If you don't think A7's appropriate let me know and I'll AfD the thing. Regards, Tonywalton  | Talk 16:51, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Turd Fairy[edit]

It deeply offends me that you doubt the authenticity of Norway's proud tradition of celebrating the Feast of the Turd Fairy. Clearly you are so closed minded that any thing that seems slightly out of the ordinary must be fabricated. Maybe if you would take some time out of your rampant Wikipedia editing sessions and went outside and met some actual Norwegians you would see that the Turd Fairy is as big a part of Norway's culture as the Tooth Fairy is to American culture. With all due respect it deeply saddens me that people like you can so hatefully dismiss something as fiction because you have never taken the time time learn about others cultures and traditions.

Bad Faith?!?[edit]

That was in no way a bad faith listing. Arbustoo was flagging comments as being from special purpose accounts when in fact some of them were from accounts whose histories showed that they were not, and others were simply dial-up assignments. He was warning against this indiscriminant flagging, then deleted the warning. He was then warned against deleting warnings, so up+land simply acted as his proxy. Thanks for the userbox page help. Thanks for the compliment! if you deleted my entry on Dollaratta i would ask that you reinstate the page on Heuristic art and consider that this was a sincere attempt to examine the implications of new forms of media in a sociological context. if you are neither a spoilsport nor the nsa, i hope you consider reading the books: Systems of Survival by Jane Jacobs, Order out of Chaos by Illya Prigogine and Isabelle Stengers, General System Theory by Ludwig von Bertalanffy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by America jones (talkcontribs)

Hi. I saw you put a semiprotect notice on the article ... has the page actually been semiprotected by an administrator? Or did you just put the notice on it (which doesn't have any actual effect). Stumps 15:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Professional Day Deleted[edit]

Why was this article deleted?

Blocks[edit]

I generally block idiots like this guy whose only edit was a personal attack of the level that he did. He mentioned his victims by name and the guy had no other edits whatsoever. Someone like that isn't likely to create a featured article anytime soon.  :) I don't blow someone out of the water like that often, but this guy was just useless as an editor. Pure vandalism. - Lucky 6.9 01:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Professional day[edit]

"Professional day" is a term commonly used by recruiter/head-hunters in the united states when describing the work atmosphere to job candidates. If you go to job recruitment sites such as dice.com, monster.com, or hotjobs.com and time the term "Professional day" you will always come up with search result including the term. It is often a source of confusion for people who are new to consulting and therefore I posted it here because the term is so poorly explained elsewhere. Please reinstate the article and allow others to contribute. Don't be so trigger happy with the delete button please.

Bae Seul Ki[edit]

can stay as far as I'm concerned; it's just something I ran across on RC patrol. I take it that my idea of "notable" is not well calibrated for Wikipedia; Bae seems to have a ways to go yet before she reaches "one-hit wonder" status, let alone pulls even with Gary Brolsma.  :-) Cheers, Michael K. The article you deleted was not intended as advertising. In light of the propsed PEEL wiki, I was creating a page here on the mother of all wiki sites that would in time be expanded to briefly cover the facts regarding www.peelified.com (as opposed to the ruthless self-aggandising that is planned for the PEEL wiki).

I shall not be re-creating the article again, but I hope you realise that you have removed potentially meritorious content, and may be putting off members from creating articles.

The reason the user was reported at AIAV was because his username was similar to vandals that Pgk (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) has blocked, notably Sunfazer (talk · contribs) and Sunholm (talk · contribs) - however, this user is not a sockpuppet of any of these users - I can confirm this, because I know the user SunStar Net (talk · contribs) personally.

IP Blocking Question[edit]

Okay, I got an email from a registered user who would like to edit on Wikipedia from their school. The problem is that the school (Liverpool High School) is blocked at the moment. I am not so sure how to address the question due to my inexperience in dealing with such blocks, but I am wondering if it is possible for a non-blocked registered user to edit from a blocked IP address?

Thanks. Nishkid64 20:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it took me a while to find it because the user didn't tell me what the IP was. I unblocked 170.158.132.51 and then re-blocked them with anon-IP only. Hopefully it works. Nishkid64 20:55, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion[edit]

I'll have to quote again, from the very page you indicated me:
Like I said, your deletion didn't even give me the time to write anything; I created the structure, went on to create the album article, and when I come back, the article is no more. It's hard to contribute like this. As for the notability guidelines, the most I can indicate to assert for the band's notability is this interview on RockTotal. They really enjoyed some popularity, and did a series of concerts on Portuguese [Fnac] stores. Is there any way that the content I had submitted is recovered, or I'll have to start from zero? —Rotring 21:23, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I got into a lengthy discussion about a newcomer yesterday who was a bit bitter about his first creation being deleted. TomConder (talk · contribs) had his Atomic Squash speedy deleted. I put up the db tag and you closed the deal. So I explained to him on his talk page the basics of WP:V and WP:RS but I asked him to contact you if he still felt that his article was ok. Apparently, he did leave a message on your talk page (albeit one that lacks context [6]) and you haven't responded. This of course is quite ok as you're certainly pretty busy but if possible I'd like you to have a word with him just so that we don't unnecessarily lose a newbie on a misunderstanding. NawlinWiki, Thanks for the tolerance - I appreciate it must be annoying! I've found out what I needed to know and it has stopped!

Just to explain, I tried in my testarea and it came up with an odd message - something to do with namespace, but how would I know that if I played in the sandpit that it would work on the main pages!

The main benefit is that I now know templates can substitute different text (it sounds obvious now that I say it!).

So, Next queston, how do I create a template to automatically put text in my own article?

deleting categories: merge by month?[edit]

Hello N'awlins, On what basis did you delete the various categories of articles to be merged by month? They included content, and were perfectly functional new categories that were being used to help cleanup a backlog of articles to be merged. As far as I know (since I was working with them yesterday) there was absolutely no CFD review or notice on the appropriate discussion pages of "merge by month" and "articles to be merged." They are also completely harmless. By deleting these pages, you are undoing cleanup work, and producing more work for very experienced editors who probably have better things to do. Please do not delete pages, categories, or anything else out of process and without checking with the people who are working on them. Assume good faith. Thank you. phoebe 02:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

no worries. If they all had 0 members, it's because someone magically came along and dealt with their contents in the last 24 hours, so that's pretty cool... whoever tagged housekeeping wasn't paying much attention, I suppose. It is confusing because the "by month" part of the merge tag was only added in September, so there's a large backlog of articles that folks are retagging. So while the categories look old, they were all in fact created in the last few weeks. Such is cleanup! phoebe 02:52, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hazzard[edit]

Hi! It's been less than 24 hours, and already I can't find the contribution I made about Hazzard. Has it already been deleted? I live in GMT+1, so I've been asleep since I wrote the article.

I found the following criterion for notability in music ensembles: "Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such." Perhaps I forgot, but I thought I mentioned in the article that Herman Frank used to be in Accept, a band which is certainly notable.

yours, Odd M. Nilsen

Edit: I took the liberty of creating the article once more, and more thoroughly. I've included justification for the article on its discussion page. Forgive me if I'm making superfluous remarks or talking to the wrong person here.

Your advice[edit]

Your advice please on the Patrick Smyth page. Firstly, he created it himself after claming it was here for two years before. So I userfied it. He has since re-created it under different names "patrick smyth" and such like, and it is leaving a trail of redirects. I'm finding it hard to keep up. I thought it was going to be straight forward, but it's beyond me at the moment. Cheers. Bubba hotep 15:41, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Messiah (metal band)[edit]

Hey. You speedy deleted Messiah (metal band) on Oct 23 per CSD A7. Google cache shows that the article did assert notability by mentioning Christofer Johnsson as a former member, and also Noise Records as a record label. This meets one criterion, possibly two criteria, of WP:MUSIC. I believe the article was originally just an infobox and I was the one who wrote the very short lead for it. Would you consider undeleting it and giving it a proper Afd? I'm sure it will survive it. Drop me a line, please. Prolog 15:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It might have been a short article but an infobox with that much information does provide context, so I don't think it could've been speedied even per A1. And as of my experience, speedy deleting articles like these is discouraged, especially since it can bite a newbie. But thanks for bringing the content back up. I'll see what I can come up with it when I have time. Cheers, Prolog 16:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. Just letting you know I've re-created the article at Messiah (Swiss band), in case you want to Afd. The original title didn't follow the naming conventions. I guess it was created by the user who uploaded the logo? Prolog 12:49, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whats up?[edit]

It clearly states in order for a band to be notable that they must be a representative of an underground scene. The Social Fucks are becoming wildly popular in the sout florida punk scene and have become an icon of the re-creation of punk in south florida. Im not sure if im actuallly typing to Nawlins but I am jsut proving that there should at least be a SMALL page about them. I dont know what else to say man. I am not int he social fucks this is actually some one who runs the clubs down here in south florida. And i believe fully these KIDS shoudl be credited. So please let me write this small page.

So My last request[edit]

Im going to load up that page one more time man. I run all the shows down here in Flroida and I havn't seen a band quite like these kids since the summer of 87 when I watched Black Flag take the stage by storm. These kids are ridiculous and need to be heard. So please.

yo[edit]

How do I give verifiable resources?

um...[edit]

There are youtube videos and I believe there was a small article somewhere about them closing down club X-it becuase of the social fucks, and if not that i also think there is over a million stupid little talks about them online

k.....im new[edit]

thx for that, im kinda new around here....i was especialy surprised by the speediness and efficiency that u showed...keep up the good work....maybe later i can write it in a way by which i can show u that he is indeed important for the locals there....thx.....ahmed.

so cant i like put that info on wikipedia in some other way???
oh alrite, but what if i can recreate the article but prove that he is indeed important.
what do u mean by verifiable? (apart from its literal meaning) how am i suppoed to prove it to u guys......okay lemme give u an example. he took part in a mass gathering which was covered by a national tv channel. how am i supposed to verify that....?

so im gonna have to go to their website (hope that they have one) and then hope again that they maintain an archive of all their reports. comeon man this is PAKISTAN. not da usa. GEO news ppl wouldve recorded the thing. displayed it for 30 seconds and moved on. but were getting ahead of ourselves. when i write about that then i hope we can have a chat on it......but thx for givin me the general idea of things.

hey another thing.......how can the original editor of 'jhang' VERIFY that amanullah khan sial or anyother guy is a politician or a poet or a writer or something.......have u asked for that or dont u need to do that if its just a name in an article and not a whole page on it?

yeah but then u would have to delete everything on it......and that would definately suck and i would not want that to be honest.

jhang[edit]

aww man that suks.......u deleted all that info......and most of it was true (by the way im not the original author of that page just a resident). u deleted all that so u may as well delete 'A Famous Punjabi piece of poetry in Praise of Motherland Jhang' or the co-ordinates since he hasnt verified it!!!

i dont think u quite understand me........jhang is in PAKISTAN....and jhang is a backward city....where most things can hardly be verifiable.....i think this is just being unfair on us.

New and want to know[edit]

HI I am very new to wikipedia so I want help/specific explanation. Why would you call it nonsense to report the common use of a term in the past? I grant it isn't a term heard at all now, but I poled a group of older people in my office (think over 60) and every one of them knew the term and smiled. Then they proceeded to tell their own stories of using it, and honestly I didn't want to hear about make out point from the old geasers at my office, but still they were raised all over the US. I thought it might be because all my sources were personal. My friends have given me sources for the term and I want to re-enter. They say it originated in an old movie, and I should have the name of it by this time tomorrow. The term has also been used in an "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode and by one of the comics on that redneck comic tour with Jeff Foxworthy. Another friend is going to give me the tape of that so I can also list who said it. It's becoming quite evident CCD turn (Come Closer Dear turn) was a widely used thing back in the fifties and into the sixties, and it probably died out as I said with the advent of seatbelt laws and the decline of popularity of front bench seats. I guess it does seem a silly thing, but no sillier than any of the other explanations of terms based on movies and tv shows listed on here. I can't see that it is any more nonsense than to say there is actually a term "Mickey Mousing". I mean I am sure we all use that term every day!

I went ahead and speedied this article you prodded - it's been posted five times in the past 24 hours, by three different SPAs. Feel free to overturn this if you think the prod should run its course. -- Merope 20:28, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LTHForum[edit]

Hmm... there is no Article 7...

How notable is LTHForum? I understand that there's no great need for a biography of every chat site on earth. Trekkie-Macrame.com doesn't really need its history preserved on Wikipedia. But, I was looking things up and found the entry on eGullet, which is a prominent food chat site and has a pretty good entry on it. Then I tried to look up Chowhound, probably the best known food site, and it doesn't have anything. So I was thinking of writing Chowhound's entry, but that would be a larger project, so I decided to knock off a smaller one first. Smaller, but nevertheless, if food chat sites are of any consequence at all as a group, then LTHForum-- which is quite influential in Chicago, which is arguably the most important city in American food at the moment; and frequently referenced in local and even occasionally in national media (if old media is the new media's standard for importance), and thus the sort of thing someone might look up on Wikipedia once in a while when they run across it somewhere-- ought to have a few paragraphs as eGullet does, and as Chowhound doesn't, but should.

So I dunno, you tell me if it belongs. Hopefully you'll tell me somewhere less ephemeral than Article 7 proved to be...

You redirected this page to something else (probably while I was sorting out the AfD stuff) - should I delist it? The original author has since made a hash of the AfD page as well. Bubba hotep 12:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think the crap (beg your pardon) on this talk page matters anybody? It does not deal with the article, it's just fan rubbish. We not delete it? Confused, SarazynTALKDE 15:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My name is Tim Emerson and I am doing a thesis on Phil Fischer who is a recording artist with a multi platinum album and I noticed you wanted to delete it because it was not notable. I dont understand.

He is well known in the Yukon and Canada from exploits that I have researched not to mention he has sold about 2.9 million cd's in the last three years.

I never posted here before and dont understand.

Hi[edit]

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

ARM TV[edit]

I would like to know why you deleted my listing of my company ARM TV.

I read that someone posted that it has no notability and I don't know what that means exactly. Could you please explain and is it possible for you to undo it. I spent some time on wording it and I don't think it is cool that you just deleted for no cause. It wasn't spam and my company is one of the few legitimate companies that exist in the sport of armwrestling. Did you even visit the site before you deleted it.

Thanks so much sir

You did an oopsie! :) I had just restored him after DRV overturn. Always read the deletion log before you speedy. Best wishes, Xoloz 15:21, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Actually, you could do me a big favor, and get a gold star for the day :), if you closed out the bottom three old DRVs. I've participated in all of them, and thus, really can't close them. I'd like to get them done before the end of the month, so that they show up in the October DRV log. IP Vandal[edit]

Hi. I notice ([7]) you've chosen not to take action against this IP vandal. There are now 12 fairly recent warning messages on that talk page and I didn't even bother using another test4 for the vandalism to the Norwich City F.C. article, but posted straight to AIV. You've then issued a test4 for the further vandalism to the Colchester article. I'm trying to better understand admin decision making and wondered if you could let me know what would have prompted you to take stronger action. --Dweller 19:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. Gotcha. So, ironically, if I'd posted a test4 for Norwich City vandalism before you'd then seen the Colchester vandalism, you might have blocked? (Thanks for explaining btw...) --Dweller 19:15, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. How about this ([8]) diff? --Dweller 16:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Longer block for User 64.141.49.2?[edit]

I've noticed you temporary block of this user's page User_talk:64.141.49.2, and the person has vandalized at least 2 pages since. Maybe a longer block or ban is in order? ---Jackel 21:07, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IP unblock request[edit]

Hey, the IP that is blocked associated with a particular username is a public IP and apparently the guy you wanted to block is agreeing to give up his username and not post further tonight anyway:

"Well, I agree with that. I'll abandon this account, but the other Mycroft.Holmes really does need to stop deleting multiple users' contributions (not just mine!) to the Parma, Ohio article. It seems that every time someone other than Mycroft.Holmes adds something to that article, Mycroft.Holmes deletes it, even if the change was made as a compromise, even if the change includes references, etc. Mycroft.Holmes sees a new edit and just reverts it, apparently without even reading to see what the change is. So, again, I'm willing to abandon this account/user name, but I would urge y'all to not allow the other Mycroft to continue the resolved edit disputes on the Parma page. Because I am abandoning this account and because I use public computers, please unblock the IP that was associated with this user account so that other users may continue to edit. I personally am done for the day and night! But it would be unfair for anyone who uses this computer after me, whether they be anonymous or have their own user account, to be blocked because of the edit dispute between the two Mycrofts. Again, the IP need not be blocked and you may delete this account or whatever, because I'll either create a new one later or whatever, but I don't see any need to make new edits tonight, and I'd hate to have others unjustifiably blocked. Best and Happy Halloween, --Mycroft.Holmz 00:06, 31 October 2006 (UTC) for the last time . . ."

Anyway, because the other participant in their edit debate (Mycroft.Holmes) is also blocked, there's no need to continue blocking the IP, because I don't see new edits being made to the contested site. Continuing the block will only prevent other users from editing who have nothing to do with the Mycroft username/Parma page quarrel. Thanks and Happy Halloween! --172.128.213.37 00:59, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Parsssselltongue/Archive[edit]

Hi, I noted that you deleted the archive of Parsssselltongue's talkpage [10]. I don't think this is appropriate (in fact, it was moved from another page - [User talk:Parsssseltongue/MayJul06] - that PT had requested to be deleted, but which was declined on the basis that talk pages shouldn't be speedied) under G7, as the page in question has edits from a lot of different people on it who may wish that the communication is retained. I also notice that Wikipedia:User page suggests user talk pages are usually deleted only if there are legal issues involved. Cheers, Ziggurat 01:28, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for that. I'm not too worried about whether it's linked to or not (probably can't force someone to :) , just as long as the communications are available somewhere. Ziggurat 01:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Me again; looks like the speedy tag was reapplied a third time (I assume by PT) and deleted by another admin [11]. Ziggurat 01:02, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Regarding this. Try leaving vandals who do not have a long abusive past, at least one warning before posting the {{test4}} template. Regards, — Nearly Headless Nick {L} 15:31, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you in theory, but this user had two prior blocks and a whole bunch of test4s on his/her talk page. It did, in fact, look to me like a "long abusive past." The edit I was warning against was this. And the test4 did, in fact, stop any further vandalism from that user yesterday (it began again today, resulting in a different admin giving a third block). Thanks, NawlinWiki 15:37, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mmmkay, but I always believe in giving them a chance. In my opinion it is subtle vandalism that really threatens Wikipedia. — Nearly Headless Nick {L} 15:40, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to edit those brackets, too. That must have been the source of the conflict.

Wikipedia needs to appoint a "grammar nazi" to go through the site and ruthlessly execute all "its/it's" conflicts, "their/there" conflicts, etc.

There seem to be some image issues on the skyscraper page, also. The turning torso building and the chicago skyline pic are not showing up. Perhaps a bracket issue?

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Funckarma[edit]

Could you explain your reasoning about why you thought that the arguments were valid and in favor of keep? One presented a google hits count which is not part of WP:MUSIC, the second one just claiming that their are notable without much reasining or verifiability, and the third saying that it "clearly meets WP:MUSIC" without reasoning. I believe that this should be relisted to gain more consensus, do you agree? T REXspeak 19:30, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your irresponsible AFD comments, which you ought to apologize for[edit]

Gosh, thanks for all those well-thought-out, carefully checked commets at theOphelia Benson AFD. In the future, to improve the level of your contributions to Wikipedia, might I suggest you improve your practices in two areas. First, you should actually read the article you are commenting on, and take note of its contents. Second, you should consider the claims made in the article against the relevant notability criteria, even, as necessary, checking the references and external links provided for the article..
Ophelia Benson is a well-known published author, not merely a blogger (although she is probably notable as a blogger, too). Her two books are listed by title in the article, even though none of you astute readers noticed that. (Apparently the identification of Benson as an "author" and the listing of the book titles in distinctive type was insufficient to tip off careful and well-informed Wikipedia editors like yourselves; perhaps one or two of you may have suggestions on how to improve such descriptions.) Her books meet the notability criteria, having been reviewed and discussed in major media. In fact, Benson is a native of the UK, and both her books have been reviewed/discussed in the TLS, which even Wikipedia acknowledges as "one of the world's preeminent critical publications." (The second review appears in the October 20, 2006 issue, and is not yet directly cited online.)
Benson's two books may be only available through such obscure retailers as Amazon.com [12] [13] and Barnes & Noble [14] [15], and the relevant pages give samples of reviews and indicate the caliber of Benson's audience.
Now I recognize that article deletion is a holy and privileged activity, and that deletion of articles about women whose claims to notability don't involve performances emphasizing, flaunting, or exposing their mammaries is a virtual sacrament which shouldn't be disrupted or contested, however ridiculous or inaccurate the basis, unless the circumstances are really really unusual. But while one of England's "leading cultural critics" is apparently not, by Wikipedia editor consensus, as notable as a moderately obese middle-aged woman who films herself having sex with dogs, and the TLS is apparently by the same consensus not a "major" publication with the stature and reputation of Color Climax Anal Sex or Big Fuckin' Tits, or even Juggs, I think she deserves to be included in Wikipedia.
I now realize that the excessive literacy and cultural awareness I displayed in recognizing the name of a well-known figure in the British academic-literary world is inconsitent with the qualities required of a good Wikipedian, and fully justifies the assumptions of bad faith you have all made. I now know that in-depth knowledge of any subjects outside of pornography, Pokemon, and professional sports can only damage the Wikipedian enterprise, and I will do my best in the future to follow your lead and to contribute only with regard to subjects about which I know nothing, or next to nothing.

Now (dropping the ironic stance) I deserve a public apology from each of the posters whose sloth, carelessness, malice, or incompetence led them to make unfounded, uncivil, derogatory comments about me (and about the entirely blamess Ms Benson). And I deserve a display of abject, public, unqualified self-execration from the ArbCom member who charged to the head of the attack. I expect, of course, nothing but renewed incivility, personal attacks, and evasion of responsibility. VivianDarkbloom 20:37, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
