Yes, seems a pity. I have a suspicion that she'll turn up in unlabelled photos with Harlow Shapley from the 1920s. Could you please reword the page? As currently worded, it implies that this is additionally a page to request archival searches for subjects that may not immediately show up in the SIA search (given you did just have a whole photo-ID workshop, I was hopeful that this was a way to request the services of SIA archivists...). Hi Iridia! A large portion of the content that is in our collection is on our website, so, generally, if we don't find something about Bok on the website, she's most likely not in the collection. I will ask our archivist though tomorrow, promised! And I'll also ask her about Shapley. If they do find anything it'll take a few weeks for things to be scanned, but we'll do our best! I really do appreciate all of your great contributions - I also like to take photographs of flowers as well, and identifying them is the hardest, sometimes. It looks like we might not have any cross-over right now with my project at the Smithsonian Institution Archives, but, if I come across anything, I will surely keep you posted. We actually have thousands of scientific illustrations of plants that need identifying, but, alas, they are not scanned at this point (and probably won't be for quite sometime!). Hi Sri! Oh, I think it's great that you want to mention his wife, for sure! I took a look at the links - the problem is that they are only for his books. For the article to make it through AfC (I think, I don't to reviews there, so, I might be a bad person to ask :) ) it'll need to have reliable secondary sources, and the sources don't have to be in English. Sources that I'm referring to are from newspapers, magazines, books - but they CANNOT be related to Paturi Sitaramanjaneyulu, they can't have been written by him or published by anyone related to him. Just searching in English I'm having bad luck, but, perhaps in his name language you might have some luck. I hope this helps! SarahStierch (talk) 16:16, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Sarah, Just to give you an idea of my strugle. Paturi Sitaramanjaneyulu a researcher . But he did not strive for fame he had a lot of quest for knowledge. Did not try to get into the crowd. But each of one of his works were historic linguistics works. I am in US and do not have access to any local magazines where I could find articles on Paturi. I tried to provide as much information as I could from online. I will keep trying to get more references. I understand your struggle! I frequently write about researchers as well, and sometimes I just have to step back and say "Looks like I'll have to hold this article in my sandbox until I find more resources," and I move along for the time being. If you have time to peruse, a good place to determine if your subject is "notable" enough to be in Wikipedia is here: Academics notability - this was developed to help people determine if academic subjects are notable enough to be in Wikipedia. Teahouse invitation template

Hi. I'm not sure what is the template you used for a Teahouse invitation at User talk:Chocolate.social but, as you can see, it puzzled the user because it doesn't actually contain a link to the Teahouse. Maybe this has been fixed, because the two templates I can see now, {{Teahouse invitation}} and {{Teahouse invitation TW}}, do have links, but I thought I would mention it in case there is another that still doesn't. Thanks John. It was an operator error - I was utilizing a cut and paste template for a few specific "cases" (not worth explaining why) and I noticed a few didn't have links (go figure what the heck I did!) and I went back and fixed them - but failed to fix that one, and hopefully that is the only one. Thank you for lending a hand with the new editor and letting me know so I can go clean up any messes I made. Hi KS. Are you talking about letting admins know about the students so this doesn't happen again? I'm not sure who you'd have to inform about the students usernames. It'd probably be a good idea to maybe talk with folks at the Wikipedia:Global Education Program (I'm not sure if they are strictly for colleges, but, it'd be worth reaching out to them). Let me know if you want me to introduce you via email to people. If you are referring to me having access to the students usernames, that'd be great, so I can greet them with the Teahouse welcome template. Unfortunately at this time we're not able to add the Teahouse link to any of the welcome templates. We can create our own, but, we're avoiding utilizing heavy text blocks with excessive links. Florence Meier Chase article review

Hi Sarah! I know it has been a while since we last touch base on this article (User:TheBlueWizard/Florence Meier Chase), but I would like to push it out to the main space soon. So I cleaned it up, wikified it even more, added inline citations, etc. I hope it is good enough, so can you take a look at it? Since I got autoconfirmed a long time ago, I technically could move it to the main space all by myself, but I think it would be a good idea to put it into AfC submission (as if I'm a newbie editor), though I am a bit vague on how to do that. Alright! I looked at the diffs and it looks good! Regarding the format of publication namings, I was following an example of a certain Wikipedia article which I now forgot where! (should've bookmarked it...oh well!) If it turned out to be the correct one, I can recover the original format, no big deal, thanks to the history. Thanks for the needed corrections! I basically write in the same citation style I've been writing my entire higher education experience, so I guess it's engrained on me to change it. No problem if you'd like to change it! Welcoming blocked editors

Hi Sarah, apologies if someone else has already brought this to your attention, but would you mind not welcoming blocked editors? Aside from any question as to whether we want to encourage blocked editors, there is a real risk that a welcome and come to the Teahouse template could be seen as sarcastic when dropped on the talkpage of someone who is currently blocked. "Where seldom is heard an encouraging word..." keep on welcoming everyone, including blocked editors. has anyone complained of 'sarcasm'? rather we have the complaints of the vindictive, who can't stomach diplomacy rather than target acquisition, and target suppression. perhaps an FAQ is required. If you do want to welcome blocked editors why not add words to the effect of "when your block expires" or "when you've resolved those issues and been unblocked". how much investigation do you want teahouse to do in its thousands of welcomes? do you want to caveat the welcome to everyone, so that the blocked are still on notice? what is the percentage of blocked editors welcomed - less than .1%? it's astonishing to me how being nice to editors can be criticised. a dialogue needs to be established, beyond the mindless warnings, if you want editors to improve. To be fair, the editor wasn't formally blocked until shortly after the invitation had been placed in their talk page. But a quick glance at the top of their talk page before placing the invitation would have indicated that this editor waa neither "new" nor "promising" but a sock puppet of an editor blocked for repeated copyright violations and violating WP's policy on biographies of living person. This was absolutely an accident. At this point, I have invited over 2,000 editors to the Teahouse, and I think I've been pinged about now inviting two blocked users. So I must say, I'm not doin' too bad :) But, it's always great to get a reminder about this - as it reminds me not to invite users when I'm half asleep or not in the right mindset. One easy way of making sure you aren't inviting a blocked user is to add importScript("User:PleaseStand/userinfo.js"); to your user JavaScript (vector.js, monobook.js, common.js etc.): this will pop up a line of information about the user when you are looking at their user or user talk page. For instance, for you it says "An autopatrolled user, 5 years 11 months old, with 40,116 edits. Last edited 1 minute ago." (It also puts a male or female symbol next to their username which is also quite handy.) For blocked users, it'll say "A blocked autoconfirmed user..." etc. —Tom Morris (talk) 16:20, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Yep, you just add the importScript line the bottom of User:SarahStierch/vector.js, on a new line.
Don't worry about the non-Firefox thing. I use Firefox and it works just fine.

Yep, I've just granted you rollback. The new article feedback tool gives certain privileges to experienced users, and uses rollback to decide that. I figure that it might be useful as part of Teahouse. Thanks Sarah, and well done for welcoming so many editors. I certainly wasn't objecting to the welcoming of editors who've got off to a bad start, its just that personalising such welcomes makes it clear they aren't sarcasm. Usually when I welcome someone I've already interacted with them, if only by categorising or otherwise tweaking an article they've just written, and I rarely see a need to personalise such welcomes. I do wonder whether editors perceive templated welcomes from people they've otherwise not-interacted with as less of a personal welcome, though I have to admit it years before I realised that the person who welcomed me was probably doing so in a semiautomated way.
One group you might consider looking at for your teahouse project are blocked newbies who've made goodfaith edits. A bot writer should be able to produce a report of editors who have less than 100 edits, are currently blocked and who have a non-reverted edit in mainspace (the last maybe difficult, but it should be possible at least to code for there being a mainspace article where they are the most recent contributor). Howabout a template that said something along the lines of "sorry to see you've got off to a difficult start here, when you've got yourself unblocked please come and visit us at the Teahouse, perhaps we can help you make better sense of this place." Hi Sarah! I submitted the article and it got approved and placed in the main space by User:Zach Vega! But I realized I made a big mistake in doing so...see my response in my user talk page describing my mistake. According to Zach Vega's talk page, he is watching my user talk, but I don't see any sign of his taking any action. How do I best get this fixed? Should I wait, or what? Seamus photo

A discussion has arisen about the validity of the copyright of a photo of Seamus, the dog of Mitt Romney. I believe that you issued the permission ticket for this photo based on e-mails that I sent you from Scott Crider, who had the photo on his website (Dogs Against Romney). A question has come up about whether we have to verify that Scott Crider had the right to give Wikipedia permission to use the photo. I cannot find anything in Wikipedia's image use policy discussing this level of verification, but I thought that you might have some comments about this issue. Thanks. Seamus photo discussion
Hi Debbie. Sounds like a question that might be a little in and over my head to ask. Right now I'm taking a long-term break (the OTRS team is aware) due to my work-load in other areas (including two jobs and school!). If all else fails: it's really good to get permission for any photo even if you don't think you have too. As I've found myself doing so, just to cover my butt. And perhaps I was in the wrong for accepting it, but, I did handle about 300+ photo submissions and permissions that week, trying to clear out backlog. While I wish I could provide a set answer, a good place to ask for input would be at the Teahouse, which is a new friendly help space for editors of all experience levels. I'm also not sure it's acceptable to greet users on another language Wikipedia and ask them to participate in a help space on a different language Wikipedia than they one they are active in...especially since each language has its own help spaces and the Teahouse is specifically being tested on English Wikipedia. While Simple English, is, English, they also have their own close knit community and also need editors. They might get concerned that me inviting your students to English Wikipedia to visit a help space might confuse them and also potentially lure new editors away from Simple English. Hi Sarah--thanks for inviting me to the Teahouse. I was doing OK with introducing myself until I got to the avatar part, where I thought I'd use an actual photo of myself. Seemed I couldn't upload anything unless I set up a Wikimedia Commons account, so I did that, but it's not like I want to put my picture up for all to see. I did put in a file name after Image: and I clicked on "Save Page," but since my self-introduction hasn't appeared I assume I must have done something wrong. What can you suggest?

BTW, my interests are pretty similar to yours. I'm a retired museum professional interested in American art, specifically historic California art and Anne Bremer, the woman artist I've submitted an article about twice. I used to transcribe oral histories for the Archives of American Art. I might be interested in getting involved in GLAM in some way, or other art-related wiki projects. I live in the SF Bay Area.

According to the AfC documentation I read about accepting articles, it seemed okay to accept articles (especially for a notable, dead historical figure, so to say) that can easily be fixed or have content added to it and citations, etc. Perhaps I'm in error? Of course, it does have the appropriate article tag on it, and there are many more articles on Wikipedia that need just as much help that did not go through this process. Because the AfC acceptance guide states that you should tag things appropriately. Since the figure is no longer living, and most of the content seems uncontroversial. Besides, it just needed more inline citations and has a few things still needing some citations. Hi there. Everything we have about him is located here. If you see anything, we might able to provide content from it, but, I can't promise (as it costs a good penny to digitize content and not all of SIA's content is being digitized at this time). I don't know anything in the collection that has a list, per se, without having to go through all of the content in all of his collections to gather it. I will be honest: I don't think a list like that is encyclopedic, perhaps a short paragraph about just a few people he influenced would be valuable, or specific cited facts would be useful about partnerships and relationships he had, but, to me, a list like that is well..just a list that doesn't really show how he influenced any of those people. Hi Sarah,

File:Fés (MA).JPG shows that you nominated it for deletion via MFD. However, the MFD page was then deleted at your request. So right now, the file is still up for deletion (because of the nomination) but there's nowhere to discuss it, and no rationale for the deletion.

I think the thing to do is for you to revert your nomination (I would do it, but I'm not sure what the story is). After that, if you want the file to be deleted, your best bet is to re-submit it via WP:FFD (depending on the rationale). Review of proposed Golfscript page: more details?

Hello, I saw the notification you left on my talk page that you had reviewed and rejected a proposed article on the Golfscript programming language. I was a little disappointed that the reviewer comments were simply "This submission is not suitable for Wikipedia. Please read 'What Wikipedia is not' for more information". This seems rather vague and generic, and directing me to a very long list of things that "Wikipedia is not" has not made your specific objections to the article more obvious. Could you please give some more detail on why you think the article is not suitable for Wikipedia? Thank you, Sara. I feared annoying more experienced Teahouse hosts while trying to help. I asked a simple question; you answered simply rather than sending me to a confusing, intimidating page. They're becoming less confusing and intimidating, by the way. I went to your page out of curiosity which led to GLAM that led to SIA that led to their ToDo list. Wait, Herbert Friedmann? Where'd I see that before? Oh, when I researched Brown-headed Cowbirds after an Orchard Oriole nest that I was observing and photographing was parasitized, I referred to his best known book (the updated 1985 edition, his last published work). So I went to Friedmann's page and found a tiny stub. While learning more about him to expand the article, I searched for awards that he received and found another stub on William Brewster. I couldn't leave that stub a stub. A few minutes of research netted enough material for a book-length biography, all in the public domain because of its age. What!? No article on the Nuttall Ornithological Club, the oldest group in this hemisphere devoted to ornithology, the predecessor to the American Ornithologists' Union, the... And the Nuttall Club is still active almost 140 years later and there's no article? It's your fault. I'm infected with the dreaded Wikipe virus, doomed to spend the remainder of my life poking at a keyboard, adding brackets around simple words and phrases, expanding and creating articles in an ever widening circle, and... Hi Razia. I can't find any reasonable reliable sources. For example, this would be an article about Khanna in Men's Vogue or an interview he has done with a major fashion magazine in India. Unfortunately, we don't have articles like that then he "fails" our notability guidelines at this time. You can read a bit more about that here: WP:Notability. We might just have to wait until he is more famous before he gets an article. You can always ask for more help at the Teahouse. Article about Pervasive PSQL

Hello Sarah,

I am baffled by your rejection of this article. You said it required references that were not from the company that created the database software that was the subject of the article. I raise the following points:

  • If you look through the list of references, you will see a number of third party sources included (online computer publications, online business publications).
  • Only techical information was derived from company sources. Where would one get detailed technical information about the contents of a software application except from the company that created the software? Third-party sources don't provide technical details; they discuss technology in a general way but don't provide the kind of specifics (utilities, interfaces, etc.) that I included in the article.
  • Before I wrote this article, I reviewed several other Wikipedia articles about similar software (MySQL, MS SQL Server). The vast majority of the footnotes for those articles were internal (Oracle, MySQL website, Microsoft, etc.).
  • All information about customers and uses came from third-party sources.
  • I included a section entitled "See Also" that listed about 15 additional sources. All were third-party sources, including two books published by outside publishers.

Hi there. We actually need better citations than the IMDB content. Unfortunately, IMDB is not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia because it's user generated content. I don't quite understand what you mean with your comments on the article rejection, does the subject not warrant an article, as based on the academics notability criteria I think 3 of the bullet points are met when only one is required for notability worthy of an article. Or do I just need more references in the article to prove the claims that have been made, what sort of references should I use?

Yes, we do need additional citations that aren't related to his place of business, so, newspaper and magazine articles, journal articles about him or that extensively cite his work, awards, etc. If someone is as "notable" as they say they should have that type of coverage. The person in question is not referenced in any news articles because the field he works in, gastointestinal medicine, is not a widely media covered subject. He is editor of the leading UK paediatrics journal and the head of the main academics society in the field of paediatric gastroenterology, his book series also falls within another criteria set out by the Guidelines for academics that you linked in your edit. He meets criteria 4, 6 and 8 of those notability guidelines. For the citations point you made how do you reference extensively cited works? Newspapers and magazines do not write about topics such as this.

I understand your point but it is difficult to reference someone who works in a field which is not heavily covered in the media.

I am still a bit vague on things of an inherently local importance, as the 100+ administrative tribunals across Canada would invariably be. Wikipedia is strewn with stub entries on things like local high schools and Japanese highways and so forth, with hardly any external citations. Should I be reporting these for deletion? Would you recommend a page on "Administrative Tribunals in Alberta" which would have a larger encatchment than one of them individually?

As for sources, can I be citing from print materials (older newspapers) or online legal cases? I haven't seen these often. Would prominent cases reported in local newspapers be sufficient?

Do you have any comment on COI re my submission? Wiki doesn't address government employees writing about their governments. I work for one specific tribunal and I have nothing to do with the work some 21000 other so-called co-employees do for the Alberta Government. What would the policy indicate my 'organization' to be - the government as a whole, or the tribunal specifically?

i cannot resubmit my article

I wrote an article about "Compositional Domain Model" i got a message from you that there was a problem with the citation. i corrected the citation, but now, whenever i resubmit i get a rejection message saying the citations are not following wiki's standards. i don't understand it. can you please help me? How to get "This article may require cleanup" notice removed after cleanup done?

Hi Sarah. Thank you for the kind welcome and the invitation to the Teahouse. I asked this question at the Teahouse, but figured it might help (and would do no harm) to ask you also. I created my first article on Mariwan Halabjaee. After I created the article, it was flagged with the notice "This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. (Consider using more specific cleanup instructions.) Please help improve this article if you can. The talk page may contain suggestions. (April 2012)" The notice did not contain any specific instructions or suggestions. No instructions or suggestions were placed on the talk page. (Indeed, no talk page has been created.) Nonetheless, after the page received the "cleanup" notice, I: (1) added section headings and a table of contents; (2) bundled the citations to make the text more readable and eliminate clutter per Wikipedia:Citing sources#Bundling citations; (3) added the official website; (4) added citations in support; (5) added the most recent news from February 2012; and (6) generally tried to cleanup the article. My question is, how does one get the "cleanup" notice / tag removed? Is that something I can do? Do I ask someone to do it? Is more cleanup necessary? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
