Nice work on the baseball pages. Hope you choose to stick around. -- Matty j 02:09, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks to both comments above (Note: I've moved those comments, this reply, and another comment from the talk page from before my account was active); I will probably create an account at some point, but I've got a lot on my plate at the moment (I also contribute to IMDb and The Political Graveyard, among other time-consuming avocations) and don't know how much I'll be doing here.

I was kind of surprised the NL page had so much less than the AL page; obviously a lot more could be done, but it's a start; and of course the lack of a member list for the Baseball Hall of Fame was a striking omission. But I'm not sure what else I'll be working on.

please consider...[edit]

Hi, thanks for all your efforts on the baseball articles. Please consider creating a user name. it will make communication easier, and you will become more a part of the community. Sincerely, Kingturtle 20:08, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

OK, I've got the account now; I don't know if it's possible to move the contribution history from here (and 128.125.139.52) over to there. MisfitToys

transfering edits to this user name[edit]

Go to Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit...follow the instructions and then make a request to have all your edits made with that IP address transfered into your new user name. If you have any questions, ask. Kingturtle 03:55, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the pointer; this shouldn't be too much trouble, I hope. MisfitToys
This is now done. Regards Kate Turner | Talk 11:12, 2004 Sep 4 (UTC)
Many thanks. I was starting to think I might have to take a stab at the new system. MisfitToys 11:17, Sep 4, 2004 (UTC)

Nice work[edit]

You're doing some really nice work on the actor pages. Good job. RickK 03:54, 16 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks; anyone who could create the page List of rulers of Númenor is OK with me. MisfitToys

Ditto with the Elvis headings revision - all steps in the right direction; I leave it in good hands. :Robin Patterson 00:26, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

A toy[edit]

Thanks![edit]

I just want you to know that I appreciate the fact that you caught the error in the birthdate of the Rich Gossage entry. I got a little chuckle out of it after I realized that it had the wrong date! According to the original date I put in, Rich was unique in that he began pitching in the womb! :)

Thanks![edit]

Great revision on List of movies based on the Bible--it was one of the neglected stepchildren of Lists of movie source material. I appreciate it very much. jengod 20:09, Apr 21, 2004 (UTC)

George Kell (RBI)[edit]

You are right. Thanks. Was a "fingers-mistake".

You know what? I knew Wikipedia a month or so ago. Right now, I think that is incredible to find a long list of Hall of Famers without an article. Well, I try to compensate it with my "stubs".

Thanks again for your valuable support.

MusiCitizen 17:29, Apr 23, 2004 (UTC)

I saw your note on MusiCitizen's page -- just wanted to say I'm impressed with your pleasant and encouraging attitude! You really have a marvelous approach here which impresses me a great deal, and I hope I get to work with you on an article somewhere-or-other very soon. Keep up the fine work and the positive outlook, Jwrosenzweig 17:35, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Again, thanks for your continuous estimation and guide in order to improvement my collaborations.

Regarding airline crash list[edit]

There is already a list of crashes organized by where they crashed. See:List of accidents and incidents on commercial airliners grouped by location

WhisperToMe 00:49, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)

True, but you have to keep going back and forth between lists if you're not precisely sure what you're looking for. The list by locations doesn't show years, and the chronological list doesn't note locations. MisfitToys

Virginia Wolf[edit]

I sorted out a couple of links pointing to 'Wolf' when they meant 'Woolf' a couple of days ago.

Wolf, (one 'o') is a musician who has released a couple of albums, I believe other pages have a list of her songs. So, she needs her own page with a stub, I guess. But I'm new to this, so perhaps you can oversee it. --bodnotbod 12:19, May 2, 2004 (UTC)

I know absolutely nothing about Wolf (one 'o'), so I don't think I'm the right person; I'm also not sure how others better-qualified might prefer any dismabig be linked from the Woolf page. MisfitToys 04:08, May 4, 2004 (UTC)
Ha! Shows how much we know; turns out it's a "they", not a "she". British rock band. I've added the stub. (If someone else wants to revise the page title to Virginia Wolf (band), revise all the directing links, and put the existing page title back as a redirect to Woolf, they're welcome to do so.) MisfitToys 09:05, May 4, 2004 (UTC)
Let's hope not too many bands start generating clever names along these lines ;o) Thanks for your work on this. --bodnotbod 09:11, May 4, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the catch![edit]

I see you updated my "Extra innings" article with info about that classic 25-inning AL game. Nice move! I'm one of those folks who thinks MLB is one 30-team entity; but you clarified the entry by saying it was the longest MLB game played to a decision. I like it. CharlieZeb 02:44, 4 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

MLB is 30 teams, but the two leagues just needed to be distinguished. And back then, the leagues had separate administrations, which I think I preferred. MisfitToys 04:09, May 4, 2004 (UTC)

Hank Thompson[edit]

>>This article refers to the baseball player Hank Thompson.
>>For the country/western musician, please see Hank Thompson (music)
Thanks for moving this up to the top of the page.
K7jeb 08:54, 4 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I revised the title on the baseball player's page and made the old one a disambig. One of those results of a couple pages coming up at the same time, I guess. MisfitToys 09:23, May 4, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, some kind of weird synchronicity. K7jeb

List of Governors of California[edit]

It appears I was a little hasty with my reversion. Sorry. I'll defer to you on this one. Chrisn4255 04:49, 21 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to drop by Culbert Olson and see what you can do to this stub. Chris N. 05:43, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

LotR[edit]

Your comment is quite right. The links to that website are inappropriate and should be pointed out (and deleted), and the user chided for the action. RickK 03:29, 22 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

George Washington[edit]

Yes, GW was the First President of the United States. See President of the Continental Congress. RickK 03:42, 28 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what your point is, as I don't dispute that. I was adding a section to his page below the section titled "Was he the first...?", but I didn't change (or question) that section itself. I also made a separate change with the comment that it was inaccurate to say he was born in the U.S., but I don't think that's what you were getting at. MisfitToys 04:48, May 28, 2004 (UTC)
Ah. I thought the edit summary was your question.  :) Never mind. Now that you've changed George Washington to not having been born in the US, you should do the same thing all the way up through Andrew Jackson.  :) RickK 04:51, 28 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Bunt[edit]

You added "into fair territory" and commented in the edit summary about it, which would be fine except that a batter must always be seeking to put the ball into fair territory as elsewhere wouldn't be in play or of benefit to the team, yes? The intention is of course to drop it near them. I feel there ought to a be a name for a bunt that reaches the outfield (and I don't mean hit or error!) --VampWillow 09:12, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)

All good points, though they're misdirected here. The person who added that part (Revolver) did so before I revised the article. MisfitToys 19:32, Jun 5, 2004 (UTC)

Regarding dashes[edit]

Hey, just wanted to make sure you've seen Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes). In Rollie Fingers I wasn't trying to be an ass when changing your space-hyphen-spaces to em-dashes; rather, the space-hyphen-space is depricated and supposed to be changed. In general, though, one is not supposed to change em-dashes to space-en-dash-space (both are accepted). Anyways, since it is your preffered dash style and you've done more work on the article, we'll stick with space-en-dash-spaces, which I've changed a couple more too. Just wanted to point out the policy to you in case you hadn't seen it before. And nice work fixing up the Rollie Fingers stuff (; siroχo 07:09, Jul 23, 2004 (UTC)

Noted; I just thought it better if it matched the other occurrence in the article. As mentioned in the Manual of Style: An em dash can have spaces on either side or not, depending on the writer's preference or in-house style rules; and some writers prefer to use the en dash (spaced) for this parenthetical use. I guess I'm one of those last-named writers. MisfitToys 04:36, Jul 24, 2004 (UTC)

Tom Browning[edit]

Hi, I'm just wondering why in Tom Browning you changed southpaw to left-handed. I'm just curious. Thanks Mattingly23 22:52, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Well, southpaw is just a slang term, and not really appropriate for the header of an enyclopedic article; besides, southpaw simply redirects to the article for left-handed. Readers might not know what southpaw means, but certainly know the meaning of left-handed - and the article on left-handedness isn't really germane to baseball in particular. MisfitToys 22:56, Aug 6, 2004 (UTC)
Ok, I just thought it should be used because it is a term widely used in baseball. I guess it's fine the way you made it. Mattingly23 23:00, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

thanks for working on the baseball players pages[edit]

you made a lot of good changes and added useful information. thanks. Mattingly23 12:28, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)

My pleasure; I can usually add something to the bios for most players - but there's a lot of them to work on. MisfitToys 23:19, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

re:Pages self-linking[edit]

I've noticed that for most of the baseball articles you've started, they are listed under 'What links here' for their own pages; articles shouldn't link to themselves, and I can't seem to spot why these listings are turning up. (For a few of your early articles, you were mistakenly using double brackets rather than triple quotes to boldface the name at the beginning of the article, but you haven't done that for some time.) Do you have any idea why the articles appear to be self-linking? MisfitToys 23:34, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

I have no idea, I was wondering that myself. I thought maybe it did that for all pages. Is there anyone to ask to see what the problem is? - Mattingly23 23:35, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Note: I got a bug in my head and removed the stub notice on Jimmy Archer. For some reason it appealed to my antique programmer's brain that that might do the trick and it did! No more self-link. Go figure. -- Cecropia | Talk 08:31, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Bill Rogers[edit]

On your list of athletes on Wheaties boxes, you list Bill Rodgers. (I found it because I set up a William Rogers (disambiguation) page and in fixing links found you page links to a British politician named Bill Rodgers). I presume your refering to the golfer Bill Rogers, but didn't change it in case there's another athlete Bill Rogers. I've been fixing links to the golfer to Bill Rogers (golfer). If this is not the golfer, please let me know. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 19:18, Aug 24, 2004 (UTC)

That's not my list; I just cleaned up some of the links which weren't properly routed and noted some of the sports involved. Not being familiar with Rodgers/Rogers, I didn't do anything with that name. You'll likely want to check with the creator of the page, Poroubalous. MisfitToys 10:45, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for watching my back (and fixing my sloppiness) on the Chicago's American article. Too much coffee, not enough sleep, who can say? But, good work. As I see from this page, that appears to be your style. Ortolan88 15:47, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I had just happened to notice that someone followed up on my note that more cleanup was needed there. Thanks for the compliment, too. MisfitToys 15:56, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)

List of Republicans[edit]

Since it is almost impossible to know whether someone is registered a republican or a democrat I was going by what celebrities were on the record as voting Republican. This can get confusing too, that's why I wanted to make it clear that these people may have voted Republican in the past.

Maybe the list can be seperated into dead Republican supporters and living ones. I was interested in this list because it is fairly well known that Hollywood celebrities are more likely to support Democrat candidates.

Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, voted for President Bush in 2000, he said this in 2002 at this link: Larry King Interview 2002, so I'm not sure why he was removed from the list, even if he is no longer supporting Bush, he has voted for a major Republican political figure. FBarnes 02:33, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I didn't actually remove Johnson from the list, and you might note I had already added him earlier - I just moved the notation of his real name to the listing under The Rock (where his article is), since Dwayne Johnson redirects there; incidentally, I believe he addressed the 2000 convention as well. As for the other issue, I agree that dividing the list into two pages is more appropriate, and was planning on doing that today.

Sorry, I failed to notice. FBarnes 13:45, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

As for what standard could be used for inclusion, I see that the listing for Sydney Pollack only notes that he made a donation to McCain; I'm inclined to think that's too weak a standard, given the number of people (and organizations) who regularly donate to multiple candidates - in different parties - in the same race. I'll rewrite the intro for somewhat more clarity on this point; you're welcome to amend/improve if you like. MisfitToys 22:22, Sep 6, 2004 (UTC)

Great work! FBarnes 13:45, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Why did you revert my changes to List of Republican celebrities? These were spelling corrections (McRaney, Pollack), fixed redirects (The Rock), added names (Petty), etc. (I dropped Rob Long from the list because, frankly, if you have to explain who he is then he's not really a celebrity.) MisfitToys 22:28, Sep 6, 2004 (UTC) Sorry, my bad. Pitchka 01:17, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)

Hey MisfitToys! I just checked out the dead republican list you did a really nice job! Pitchka 22:39, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)

Why the vandalism?[edit]

Hi, MisfitToys. I notice you've been going around to articles and have been adding a |* to the end of the Category tag (e.g. . Since you appear to be a respected user, I can't imagine that you'd engage in vandalism. So far, I've been reverting these changes. If you have a valid reason for adding such tags (which are usually used for alphabetizing), please explain. Thanks! :-) Frecklefoot | Talk 22:50, Oct 6, 2004 (UTC)

As luck would have it, I posted the explanation on your page just as you were posting here. If you disagree with the logic involved, let me know. MisfitToys 22:54, Oct 6, 2004 (UTC)

"Commonly known as"[edit]

I used to think so, too, but I've changed my mind. We should be thorough and clear, after all. Everyking 00:59, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[Note: This was a response to my inquiry on Everyking's talk page regarding deletion of the above phrase from an article, which follows: Is it really necessary to include that phrase in the text? I believe that the title of an article is presumed to be the most common name by which someone is referred.]

Mike Greenwell[edit]

Hello MisfitToys! Please take a look at Mike Greenwell entry. I'm sorry to say that this text was taken entirely from the Greenwell article at Baseball Library [1]. Maybe a Plagiarism? My regards. MusiCitizen 12:24, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)

Yup, you can't do that. I've posted the copyvio; feel free to write something new on the temp page, starting with the raw factual info. MisfitToys 00:04, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for the message. Apparentely, 24.62.83.241 is an anonymous user. Any way. I started a stub on Mike Greenwell to compensate this player, but some stuff is needed. Please add some content to it if you can. Thanks again. MusiCitizen 03:02, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. It's important to know, even if you choose to do anything so I don't keep asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk) 14:18, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)
