Usernames

An HD-DVD decryption key has been released onto the internet. Attempts are being made to spread it as widely as possible- we are trying to keep it off Wikipedia as much as possible. User accounts are now being created using the encrycption key as a name (as was the case with the accounts you reported to RFCN). Obviously reporting those names spreads the information further arround Wikipedia (especially if in the edit summary as well)... WjBscribe 06:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

OMG, I did not know. I am so sorry. I am using Twinkle to report usernames. But, I won't be on username patrol anymore, due to IRC. Real96 06:32, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry. You weren't to know- the spread of the key is now getting beyond our ability to control anyway. We've salted 30+ pages that use a permutation of the key as their title. Probably blocked about as many usernames as well. And the key is being added to articles as random as Lenin! WjBscribe 06:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Of course! :)

Please do, dear! :) Not only that, you can change it at will whenever you want. You know, just yesterday I was about to warn that fellow who was pestering you, but I saw Bishonen had already came to your defense, and Bish is one hell of a guardian angel ;) Nice to meet you, and please, edit like the wind! Your revert in MSNBC has been reverted, as what you identified as vandalism is not. Your vandalism notice on the talk page of the anonymous user of whom you have accused vandalism is also unwarranted. Next time, take care to double-check that what you are reverting is indeed vandalism. --Roehl Sybing 16:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

The edit seemed like vandalism because 1.) The editor was blanking content and 2.) No edit summary was given. Although the vandalism did not exist, I will, however, warn the user to provide an edit summary. Thank you for your help. Real96 19:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

2 Questions

Hi There,

when I searched the name Starboat , which is our family company, manufacturing speedboats, a page telling about Star Class Keelboats was opened. I want to create an article, telling the history of our company. What can I do?

Deniz Gunaydin 21:02, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

You can't create this article due to WP:COI, sorry. Real96 21:07, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

And the other thing is a mesagge that you have posted on my talk page (Copyright for Gazi_Imza.jpg)

I have contacted with the Executives of our Alumni Organization and requested a "Permission granted" e-mail to use the all media files related to our ex-school and/or Alumni Organization. Will this work?

Since I and user:Ugur Olgun are alumnis at work and I am a legal member of the Alumni Organization we hope to continue to edit this article. Thanks for your help.

NPHC

Resolved

Please don't test edit with NPHC sororities and fraternities. The links are invalid. I have to rollback 9 links that you have test edited. Real96 05:31, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I undid your reverting of my changes. The links were to valid articles. The organizations in question are not classified as strictly service fraternities, such as Alpha Phi Omega, Gamma Sigma Sigma and Omega Phi Alpha are. While NPHC greek-lettered organizations do service, they're still social fraternties like the IFC and NPC greek-lettered organizations are. See Service fraternities and sororities for a clearer definition. The change was not vandalism, and charges of vandalism (which I see you have a history of making) are not valid. Justinm1978 14:39, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
If you make a reversion that drastic, then I suggest you make a note on the article's talk page before reverting. I do not feel in getting an edit war with you over something that trivial. However, I do feel, that the Alpha Phi Alpha article in which you inserted information will get reverted back because the article is currently a FA and was listed as a service fraternity. In addition, please be Civil with your commments. Thank you! Real96 14:49, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
That's fine you feel that way, but it's not a drastic change, and I'm fairly certain it will stand once the definition of "Service Fraternity" is clarified. I suggest some civility with your comments and edits as well, I found your accusation of vandalism to be most insulting. Please review the vandalism policy before making such accusations and issuing warnings. Justinm1978 15:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

(reduce indent) 1. I really don't care at this point as if the sororities/fraternities are "social/service". All can be categorized as social, but the organizations do service...again trivial. 2. This comment: and charges of vandalism (which I see you have a history of making) was uncivil. 3. I believed that your edits constituted vandalism, because with each edit, you did not place an edit summary. Many times NPHC articles get vandalized by prospective candidates or people who really don't give the respect for the organization. 4. Please keep the conversation on this page, per my talk rules. Thanks! Real96 17:35, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate that you have a policy on this, but in the case of a conversation like this, my talk policy is to replicate information on both talk pages until the conversation is over, then the conversation is either deleted or moved to an appropriate article. Please respect my policy on this matter. If you wish to continue this conversation, it will need to be moved to a mutually acceptable location. I propose the talk page for the NPHC. If you find that acceptable, please continue the conversation there. Justinm1978 22:21, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
No, it is not trivial. Whether or not the NPHC groups are social fraternities and sororities or service fraternities or sororities determines *Legally* whether they can be single gendered. If Alpha Phi Alpha, for example were to declare itself as a service fraternity, it would have to admit women as full and equal members of the fraternity. See the information about Title IX at Service fraternities and sororities.Naraht 18:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Agreed, this isn't exactly a trivial matter. The legal definition is the one that needs to be applied. Not all fraternities/sororities can be categorized as social. The IFC and NPC greek-lettered organizations do service too, but they are by definition a social organization just like the NPHC GLO's. Justinm1978 22:21, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thank you for clearing that up, Justin. Real96 23:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Never mind forgot to save my password

It turns out that I never changed my password, thank you for your help though.--Kkrouni 01:57, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I noticed this article on the list of PRODded article and have seen that you have twice restored the PROD template with the rather robotic edit summaries "Reverted 12 edits by MiguelConde.info identified as vandalism to last revision by MER-C. using TW" and "Reverted 3 edits by MiguelConde.info identified as vandalism to last revision by Real96. using TW".

You should probably know that it is not forbidden to remove WP:PROD templates, and it is not vandalism to do so; on the contrary, PROD is for uncontested deletions and a removal of the tag means that the deletion is, in fact, contested. In addition, the PROD tag actually encourages its removal if the article is improved in the process and sources are added; in this case, the author was working on the article continuously throughout the original tagging and your two reverts. In reverting the edits by the article's author you also removed any improvements they had made in the previous edits, but I think those were restored by the author.

There may be a conflict of interest issue with this article, considering the user name of the main author, User:MiguelConde.info, but as the links show that Condé is represented in places like the Museum of Modern Art in New York, he is probably notable enough for an entry in Wikipedia. I don't find the article too problematic.

Anyway, edits like these are likely to be very discouraging to new editors. If you find the COI issue to be bad enough, bringing the deletion to AFD would be much better than to try to force the deletion of the article through incorrect use of PROD. Pharamond 16:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I do believe that taking off prod templates (which are maintenance templates by the way) constitutes vandalism. In this case, this may be a autobiography violation, because 1. It's mainly original research and constitutes bias. Thanks! Real96 17:44, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
It does not matter what you personally "believe". Removing PROD templates is not anywhere defined as vandalism and is explicitly permitted as part of the process. It should be obvious that a template that gets an article deleted after five days is not just another "maintenance template". I have now removed the PROD template from Miguel Condé. You can take the article to WP:AFD if you wish, but it is probably not a good idea to do so with an article that needs improvement rather than deletion. Pharamond 18:03, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
See this about maintenance templates. Also, I will ask MER-C to AfD it since he prodded it. Thanks a lot. Real96 23:30, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
There is nothing on that page to support your view that removing PROD tags constitutes vandalism. If you wish to make a case for that, you should probably go to the Village Pump policy page and convince others, but this position seems to miss the whole point of PROD as a lightweight deletion mechanism for uncontroversial and uncontested cases. Pharamond 21:21, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

(reduce indent) PROD tags are maintenance templates. However, the article is listed as an WP:AFD candidate. We will see how it goes from there. Thanks. Real96 21:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Effort to Purge Faculty of Florida State University from Wikipedia

Hi Real 96 - You might take interest in the effort to purge some of FSU's current faculty from Wikipedia. Currently, 1/3 of the faculty slated for deletion are FSU faculty -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Academics_and_educators.

Most or all of these were nominated for deletion by a single individual, and most of them are very easy casdes for inclusion in Wikipedia. The person nominating these faculty clearly did not do their homework and is out to discredit FSU.

IRC help

Thanks for offer of help on IRC - terminology completely baffling to me (not helped by freenode instructions written as if translated through several languages into final english) - just which channel are admins supposed to log into, and how does one register when it seems by invitation only. Finally what on earth is a cloak ? David Ruben Talk 01:03, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

First, here's a good help guide for beginners of IRC. Second, here's the link to the administrators channel, per WP:IRC, along with a description:
#wikipedia-en-admins is a private channel used mainly by admins and some other users. Despite the name, the channel is - like every other IRC channel - completely unofficial. See Wikipedia:IRC channels/wikipedia-en-admins for detailed info.
Third, a cloak is a username on the internet which covers your location. For example, if I were editing from home, instead of Real96@34.56.294.5 showing, my cloak would be Real96@wikipedia/real96. Hope this helps! Real96 01:58, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Generally the colors of a person's signature match their userpage format, in addition this user page style is really personal to me, because it reflects my personality (i.e. light blue, etc.). So, I really would appreciate if a user copies my page layouts to talk to me first as well as credits me, then tweaks the changes to their colors, etc.. Okay, thanks...adding to virtual "to do list." Real96 10:57, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I the old system of checkuser clerking was depreciated because it was very "cabalish" and had "closed doors". The idea behind the current clerk system is that if there are too many clerks, the bored ones will get up and leave. Clerking should be completely and totally open. If somebody wants to help, nothing should stop them. Sean William 02:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

My removal from the clerk list

Asking in a polite way, why did you take my name off the clerk list. I read the edit history that said "Been here for less than a month". Does this affect my ability to help organise the CU pages? I didn't read anywhere "Must be over one month old account to be clerk"....GrooveDog 02:38, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Groovedog. Currently, we have too many active clerks for any clerking position to be available. Also, we had one case where a banned user edited as a CU clerk. A CU clerk is a position to be taken very seriously because the information has privacy ramifications. In addition, since you have been here less than a month, I personally feel that you don't know core policies. However, thanks for your interest! Real96 02:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Since 'the revolution', and even as a general rule before it, being a clerk has absolutely no privacy ramifications, and any clerk who feels that people should be excluded because they aren't trustworthy to recieved this 'private information' is misguided. The clerks do not have access to any privileged or private information. I agree with Sean above. Daniel 08:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Stats on single pages?

Thanks for your note on my talk page pointing out wikipedia:Statistics. I browsed around there and it's quite interesting, but I could not see if there is any way to view stats on a specific single page. Maybe that would require some kind of scripting, if it is even possible at all?

I've come over to your talk page as I wasn't sure how to reply on my own talk page in such a way that it would show up as a message for you. Sorry to hear you're not well - best wishes for a speedy recovery.Birdbrainscan 04:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

No it isn't possible to find the stats on a single page other than the link I provided you. You can see when the page was last update, but that's about it. Real96 05:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
It may be possible, if a script or program similar to an edit counter were written. It could analyze the history in ways similar to how edit counters analyze the contribs page. The least it would be able to do is count the edits to a page (like an edit counter) and give the page's current byte count (which MediaWiki does already, which proves this is possible). I'm not even sure that we don't have such a tool already. See Wikipedia:Tools, and be sure to notify me if you find any there! The Transhumanist    02:14, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

The removal of a prod tag is an official method of contesting a prod nomination, and is covered in WP:PROD. The Transhumanist    02:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Adminship Assessment

Hi, TT! I was just wondering if you could give me an adminship assessment. I saw your comments on Cometstyles's page and I thought that your analysis was thorough, and was wondering if you could do the same for me. Real96 01:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I'd be happy to...

Real96,

I assume this is your first username, and that you haven't run for adminship under another username. Is that correct? Well, looking over your contribs, I'm impressed that you are virtually upon your 10,000th edit. That's quite impressive, especially since you've only been here 5 months! If we had a bottle image Wikipediholic award, I'd give you one.

Starting with your talk page, I see that you act on your own independent assessment of a situation (which means you are quick on your feet), yet you learn from your mistakes rapidly and admit when you are wrong without hesitation most of the time. This is a very good combination of traits, worthy of an admin.

Browsing through your talk page archives, I spotted a couple posts concerning WP:PROD, one of which was an argument, which could have been resolved by your reading the policy before answering. I checked the dates, and the policy supported the other person's claims at that time. You need to practice due diligence wherever possible. Though based on your overall approach and willingness to learn, I'm sure you won't make that mistake again. I see that you generally and appropriately refer to policies throughout, pointing people to where they can check your actions. Very good. I'm impressed that lot's of people come to you for help, and even more impressed that you bend over backwards to help them. All in all, I'd say you are right on top of things. From your email, it is hard to tell you from an admin, and I spotted one instance in which you were mistaken for one. You act like an admin already!

I see you are using my editing nav header on your user pages. Out of curiosity, have you been getting much use out of it?

Looking over your contribs, I see that you are deeply immersed in Wikipedia administrative chores. I like that you participate in more than one area (checkuser and anti-vandalism). You are a proficient and prolific vandalism hunter, including proper user warnings. But I'm already convinced by your talk page archives...

My assessment is that the community would benefit by granting you Admin status, if only to remove the extra step of you reporting things on admin boards so that admins can do them. Better to just let you take care of it. Keep up the good work, and if you'd like me to nominate you, I'd be happy to do so.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist    02:56, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your assessment, TT. I will keep that option open. I am wearing my glasses (reading) while I type this message. I probably won't run for adminship quite yet, because of the whole {{helpme}} ordeal on ANI, mixed in with IRC drama. Because of this, I will consider running in the near future (such as June). I am not a sockpuppet of anyone. I am just an energetic editor in this encyclopedia. Thanks for the assessment, and if you know of any tips in answering questions in RFA, please let me know. Real96 12:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I can, but it's not those kind of questions you need tips on. You need to acquire an appreciation for what just happened to you, walk away from it (when it's over) with a lesson learned, and show everyone what you have learned from this experience.
See WP:COOL and http://www.wikihow.com/Handle-an-Irate-Customer-on-the-Phone. There is plenty more on how to communicate with difficult people and their difficult questions all over the web, and most of it can be applied effectively when communication difficulties surface. The main thing is not to get frustrated. Just relax. Keep in mind that diplomacy is your goal. You win if you remain the Nice Guy. I've had a couple steamblowing episodes or meltdowns of my own on Wikipedia, and it's taken a long time to live those down. Though it may seem silly, the method I use these days to stay calm is to visualize the cucumber man. He never gets riled. And his answers are always perfect. So I simply imagine what he would say, in his super deep voice, and base my answers on that. Though it can be tempting to just let it rip and tear a stubborn SOB a new pie hole, it doesn't serve anyone, it doesn't serve the project, and though there might be some immediate gratification, it isn't worth all the flack you will take from the community, nor all the lectures you'll receive (like this one).
Since you've asked for coaching advice above, I guess that makes me your defacto coach. Want to make it official? You know my terms (having read them in my offer to Cometstyles). Let me know if you agree to those terms, and I'll gladly be your coach (along with the whole team, of course).
In the meantime, here's an assignment intended to explore what just happened to you and provide yourself and Wikipedia with a benefit from it. There's very little in this encyclopedia on this type of thing (heated arguments, defusing arguments, the specific methods of dealing with assholes, irate customers, catfights, etc.). The closest topics I could find were conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and stress management. Your assignment, should you take it on, is to identify and create more specific articles in this general subject area. I hope you are game, and I look forward to reading whatever you come up with. Good luck, and have some fun with it. The Transhumanist    17:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

User:Real96/sandbox/sandbox5

I removed the categories from User:Real96/sandbox/sandbox5. There was an OTRS complaint about that the page was showing up in a category. I hope you don't find my actions offensive or a problem. You can see the categories easily when you wish to restore the article to article space by looking at my edit. Thanks for your understanding. MECUtalk 12:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Forgot that. Just transferred the article from mainspace. Thank you so much! Real96 12:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

attorney generals

Hi Real96: I saw you are part of the WikiProject law and also speak some Spanish. We are having some issues naming a couple of articles; Attorney General of Colombia and Prosecuting Attorney General of Colombia. Could you please check their functions and determine which one is the correct translation for "Procuraduria General de la Nacion" and "Fiscalia General de la Nacion" in English. When translated both are called the same "Attorney General" or "Prosecutor General", so we are trying to disambiguate these. thanks!--I am greener than you! (Lima - Charlie - Over) 17:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I am kind of busy (i.e. "the Zone" busy) in improving Alpha Kappa Alpha. I am kind of a novice when it comes to law. However, I have done some research and found that in some cases, that the President appoints a PG for investigations of official conduct seen here, but this is rare due to Watergate. In some countries, such as Russia, an AG = PG. So, basically it comes down to the jurisdiction of the country. My suggestion would be to ask another person who is familiar with law in the project. However, I have done some editing to Attorney General of Colombia. Real96 18:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yummy yummy!

10000+ edits, sure. Deliciousness, absolutely!

Userpage/Wikipedia

Hi, I removed the image of Microsoft Windows on the userpage, because it is a violation of our WP:IMAGE policy, which states that fair use images must be used in mainspace. Second, I would appreciate if you credit me in copying my userpage design on your page, since I was the one who originally made the design and since you are planning to distribute the design to others pages without crediting the original source. Cheers. Real96 09:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, fixed the page. The <noinclude> tags were not fixed for some reason. :-(. Happy editing! Real96 09:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for what you did, but i prefer if you stay out of User:Cyberoidx and its subpages. CyberoidX 12:30, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I am requesting you to stop visitng my page, and NOT edit it ANYMORE. Please. I wanted the Copyright logo on the my page whatever reason it might be, and i think it is fair enough if i include your credits in the no include tag. You have posted content in wikipedia under GFDL and I am FREE to copy it, and edit it, and Release it under the same license. If you edit my page and add credits to yourself at places i do not like, I WILL REMOVE ALL CREDITS TO YOU, and might also report you as a VANDAL You might be happier if you stopped watching my page, and forget that it existed. CyberoidX 12:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Its funny you would remove credits from the page and add it to the talk page so that everybody gets to see it. CyberoidX 12:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
I will be putting noinclude tags wherever you have credited yourself, so it can be seen in the template page, but i will not be putting credits back on any page if you have removed them. CyberoidX 12:33, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

(reduce indent) First, Cyberoidx, stay civil. Second, I won't edit your page anymore, since you don't want me to do so, under certain circumstances, such as, if you are vandalizing a page (that's default, BTW). I removed the fair use image, because it's a violation of WP:USERPAGE. Fair use images cannot be listed in userspace due to copyright. Third, if you are not crediting me on your page, then I will list a separate section on my page, which says, "Copiers of Template" and list your name. Fourth, since you are new here, and I am an established editor, my edits on your page do not constitute vandalism. Please see, this policy to know what vandalism is. Thank you! Real96 12:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

What you removed from my page was this image ==> . The windows image had ALREADY been replaced by User:WODUP Thanks for crediting yourself again. So apparently "establsihed editors" have Immunity from vandalism? Let me remind you of the recent removal of admin privilages. Anyways, like i mentioned the last time we talked about my page, i'm really not interested in arguments, but the fact that you've been editing my page without telling / informaing me PISSES ME OFF. And i'd like to ask you to remove all my pages from your watch list. meta:Don't be a dick CyberoidX 13:06, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Again, be WP:CIVIL with your tone. Second, what I meant by what construes vandalism is by listing policy. You have been here a short while and don't know all of the policies which encompass wikipedia. Second, I am not an administrator, just an experienced user. The removal of administrator privileges is very rare, and that requires an arbcom case. Fourth, I watch this page to see if you have responded or have any questions, because I like to keep all instances in one place.
Below is what you placed on my user talk, I am leaving it here for convos to be placed in once place. Thus making it easier to follow. Real96 13:23, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

User:Cyberoidx

Since you have been good enough to give me a mention on your userpage, i thank you (for all those cool page views you will be giving me) , and in exchange will be making linking a subpage on my main userpage called Inspirations and mention your name there. Hope you like it. Thank you. CyberoidX 13:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I thought this stuff had mysteriously dissapeared, wow, its come back somehow. anyways, as before, the complete talk is avaiable at User:cyberoidx/cbvsreal and we might as well argue over there... and you might want to check the MFD, because i beleive that the page does not go against the policies you have mentioned. CyberoidX 18:48, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
I really don't have the time to argue with you, Cyberoidx. I am trying to improve an article, which I am researching very diligently right now. The userpage isn't an issue for me anymore. It's just the way you are continuing to make an issue of the incident by making personal attacks and being uncivil. My suggestion is to take a break, and come back when you feel refreshed. :-) Real96 19:59, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
How about pointing out instances of personal attack an 'uncivility'? And Congrats on your Admin Referal. CyberoidX 03:56, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Its funny how you point to WP:DE so happily, here is what it says, because i doubt you have read it.

Definition of disruptive editing and editors

This guideline concerns gross, obvious and repeated violations of fundamental policies, not subtle questions about which reasonable people may disagree. A disruptive editor is an editor who:

  • Is tendentious: continues editing an article or group of articles in pursuit of a certain point for an extended time despite opposition from one or more other editors.
  • Cannot satisfy Wikipedia:Verifiability; fails to cite sources, cites unencyclopedic sources, misrepresents reliable sources, or manufactures original research.
  • Rejects community input: resists moderation and/or requests for comment, continuing to edit in pursuit of a certain point despite an opposing consensus from impartial editors and/or administrators.

In addition, such editors may:

  • Campaign to drive away productive contributors: violate other policies and guidelines such as Wikipedia:Civility,Wikipedia:No personal attacks, Wikipedia:Ownership of articles, engage in sockpuppetry/meatpuppetry, etc. on a low level that might not exhaust the general community's patience, but that operates toward an end of exhausting the patience of productive rules-abiding editors on certain articles.

and here is something from WP:OWN
If you don't want your material to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it. (emphasis added)
since you point out that the userpage is not an issue anymore, how about you removing the page from MFD, and I will put it under Speedy, i give you the credits as i had given before, and you remove my name from your user page, because I consider that a personal attack. CyberoidX 04:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Loads of Love

Rough week i suppose, anyway, i have credits for you on my userpage, the talk header, and the main header, and cbvsreal is now under speedy G7. and if you ever go for RFA, tell me, i'll vote for you :) CyberoidX 05:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Look, I really don't care about the userpage anymore because it's under GFDL. But, it's etiquette to attribute works by other people, although not necessary. Second, while you were posting points, I was trying to crop Aretha Franklin's picture and trying to improve John H. Johnson's formatting article. Third, I took the references about copying out, because it really is a trivial issue which I really don't have time for at this point. I admit, it was my mistake for bringing this up with you because 1.) you are a new user 2.) I have other stuff to do on Wikipedia as well as real life. I hope you have a good experience on Wikipedia, such as editing articles and improving them for quality, structure, etc. I have removed the reference on the userpage, and am closing the WP:MFD. Messed Rocker's Day

I added this, to May 7th of your archives b/c of a red link. Hope you didn't mind. Real96 13:35, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your work on filling Messedrocker's day, dear Real! :) But, you see, there was a concern some time ago regarding the use of contemporary lyrics in userspace, that's why I removed the contents of his day, along with a few others that could be considered problematic. AnonEMouse selected a few PD texts and replaced most of them, and only Messedrocker remained in red; I've been planning to select a PD poem that could fit him, but haven't found one yet. Your support and enthusiasm with my campaign is most appreciated and delightful, dear Real - thank you so much! One of these days, you'll be surprised to see "something" at my userpage... ;) Love, Phaedriel - 15:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Have you tried Wikiquotes? That would be much better. I think they have passages, too. Real96 15:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Fonts for ads

What fonts do you use for the ads, because I am making one for the fraternities/sororities wikiproject. Thanks! Real96 15:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what font OSX is using, but if it helps, I'm using Gill Sans (the same font the Wikimedia Foundation uses for its logos and so on), so the majority of the ads use that. You don't have to stick to any particular font, though – some of the ones AzaToth has made get quite creative in that respect. Thanks – Gurch 16:01, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
The font used is called "Calibri", and it is a part of the Windows Vista operating system. It may be possible to download it from somewhere, but otherwise you may have to purchase the OS to gain access to the font (that is of course assuming that you don not already own it). This is a little bit off topic, but the programme used to create the graphic is Adobe Fireworks CS3. Cheers OSX (talkcontributions) 08:00, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks so much, you two. I am using GIMP to edit, since it's free and am kind of familiar with it. Real96 14:03, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I will comment there. Thanks. Real96 10:18, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Vary. I noticed that you rved some information on this topic. I was wondering if you can semi-protect this article, because the wheel-warring about disruptive facts is kind of getting out of hand b/n the 2 IP users. And, this is a BLP that we are dealing with here. That makes the situation much more important. Thanks. Real96 11:16, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure it's quite that serious yet; the text has only been added three times in the past five days. I'm not sure that even counts as an edit war (wheel wars, btw, involve admins reverting each other over blocks/deletions/whatever. Anons can't wheel war.) The anon who's adding the text seems to have a static IP, so if s/he starts getting seriously disruptive, a block might be appropriate, but semiprotection should really only be used if there are a lot of new/anonymous users (or a single individual using a dynamic IP) disrupting the article, and the editing rate needs to be a lot higher than it is here. It looks like a fair number of users have the article watchlisted, so I think we're safe for now, BLP-wise. -- Vary | Talk 14:33, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
