Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead.

Using detailed edit summaries is the best way to ensure that your good faith edits are not reverted by recent changes patrollers or other wikieditors. Thanks and happy editing!

excellent work[edit]

hey, glad to have you helping out. I'm not a great wikipedian anymore. I kind of stopped editing about two years ago, but I feel happy to jump back in now and again. Your work on Bi-State is pretty great. Did you happen to know that they also operate the tram inside the arch? You should add nextstopSTL to whatever RSS feed readery you use if you're interested in that sort of thing.

DaronDierkes (talk) 08:49, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I always meant to return to the neighborhood pages. Millbrooky has done a pretty good job updating them, but there's so much that could be done with those. I got sidetracked by the various school district pages, and fell out all together. I'll try to at least keep up with my profile and watchlist. I put a lot of effort into getting the wikiproject onto every St. Louis page, rating them, and so forth, getting as many up to B class as possible, and then moving on. It looks like there are a lot of untagged pages that should be marked with our wikigroup banner. DaronDierkes (talk) 00:48, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Care to work on St. Louis Gateway Mall with my for a day or two? There's much to say. I hope to work on NorthSide, St. Louis as well. There's even more to say about that. DaronDierkes (talk) 01:26, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You said you were interested in streets and infrastructure. Market and Chestnut, yo. DaronDierkes (talk) 01:27, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
make me very happy... heh. DaronDierkes (talk) 02:34, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
do you have any pictures of the gateway mall that we could post? I don't. :o( I wrote to the director of the conservancy and the city to river group. I think I can come up with some from the master plan with permission. We'll see. It'd be nice to get the hallway rendering up there. DaronDierkes (talk) 03:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Uploading_images to upload pictures and use the special uploader. I keep a link on my page. If you go down to the images section of my page, you'll see my section title is a link. I can help with your pages, but I'll be slow and irregular. Weekday afternoons only. As you're collaborative, I'll investigate your work the next free period I have... in three days. :o) DaronDierkes (talk) 09:15, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Loop Streetcar[edit]

ok, I'd like to help expand your pages. Check out this video [1]. Should we have a 'St. Louis Streetcars' page? There's a lot to be added. I read a story a little while back about some buried streetcar tracks found in the central west end on maryland. Maybe we could put together a historical map. Did St. Louis ever have grip cars? Still working on the Gateway Mall, but I'm going to look over your pages today. DaronDierkes (talk) 00:53, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Right, Bi-State needs help too, but every edit affects a dozen other articles. The whole family of articles has to be worked on together. It looks like the two templates recommended for deletion below are indeed redundant. Shall I defend them or second the motion to delete?DaronDierkes (talk) 03:48, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, obviously it was my. Check the history. Stop marking up my page with new sections! Write like I do. DaronDierkes (talk) 04:31, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It looks like there's quite a lot that can be done for the transit pages. I'm going to run off to lunch, but when I get back, I hope to jump into making pages for the streets. I got Chestnut and Market up. There's much more to do. You've done excellent work on the template. Much more to come I guess. When we get streets up, we can work on bus routes. I hear there's a fancy new downtown circulator. Right, off to eat. DaronDierkes (talk) 04:41, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lunch was great. I'm afraid I didn't get to the streets afterall. I ended up launching into a history of the gateway mall, which I just removed to my sandbox... its too big and the words were semi-borrowed anyway. typing typing typing DaronDierkes (talk) 02:49, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Outstanding. I guess it isn't over 100 years old... but you should probably be able to put it under fair use if nothing else. DaronDierkes (talk) 22:41, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, nothing needed. It's already in the commons. Streets today? DaronDierkes (talk) 23:25, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No there, User:Millbrooky and User:Grey Wanderer. They've done great work. I just put up 18th street. DaronDierkes (talk) 23:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Check out Market Street (St. Louis). Like the map? I did a screenshot at [www.openstreetmap.org Open Street Map] and outlined it in red with MS paint. As far as I know, those maps are open source and free to use. If we do this for all the streets in the city, it'll be an excellent foundation for growth. What do you think? Did you say you had an infobox template for streets? DaronDierkes (talk) 00:19, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Would you put streets under transportation or geography? I just put market and chestnut under geography, but noticed st. charles rock road is under transportation. Roads are more places than transportation, aren't they? DaronDierkes (talk) 00:27, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One project at a time. Right now: streets, transit, and downtown landmarks. After that, neighborhoods, parks, and museums. Utilities are harder. MSD and Ameren deserve some heavy research. Laclede Gas has an amazing history that would take a lot to get into. I'll work on the streets and downtown. You can handle Metro, and we'll meet up on bus routes maybe? I mean, you're free to tackle whatever you want, but I'm doing downtown streets and developments for now. DaronDierkes (talk) 00:37, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man, I just did an overhaul on the Gateway Mall page. It is most certainly improving. I got maps! I hope to break each of the sections of the mall out into its own separate article eventually. For now, expanding them and making the red links blue will suffice. I made Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District yesterday and noticed the Missouri Botanical Garden page could use some help. The butterfly house and earthways center are pretty skimpy looking. I also noticed your parks template. Jeez... that's a lot of red links to fill in. I feel like we can do this. Day by day. Minor setback with a mall rendering being deleted for bad fair-use rationale, but I wrote to Mayor Slay and the mall conservancy director already to get a free version. Maybe I can put it back later. If you're eager for an editing project, the numbered streets could certainly use some descriptive prose. DaronDierkes (talk) 06:08, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have more pictures soon. Why don't we make all the park pages and then redirect them to the neighborhood pages that contain them? DaronDierkes (talk) 01:28, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They would have their own pages, those pages would just redirect to the neighborhood pages at first until the subsections there develop enough for them to launch into stand along articles. the neighborhood pages would be like incubators for the park pages. 115.94.73.122 (talk) 02:50, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on MetroBus (BSDA) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Laurinavicius (talk) 00:29, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Jordan S. Wilson (talk) 01:41, 5 January 2010 (UTC)) Hang on. I need to fill out the gaps.[reply]
As you've greatly improved the article, I retracted my speedy deletion request. Good work on it! Laurinavicius (talk) 23:24, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

STL[edit]

I'd be glad to work with parks, museums, buildings, etc. I'm doing a bit with places listed on the NRHP right now. If you have any suggestions, leave them on my talk page, and I'd be glad to help.  fetchcomms 00:44, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by parks template? I have, so far, only created one park article, and expanded one other.  fetchcomms 15:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your WikiProject proposal[edit]

Just wanted to notify you that your WikiProject proposal page needs some work before people will come support it. When you created that page, you were supposed to take out the text "ProjectDescription" and put in your own words describing the purpose of the project and what it's about. I've taken the liberty to make some other changes (which you were also supposed to have done), so you just focus on writing that description.

Oh – same goes for your other proposal.
-Garrett W. { } 10:13, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, fellow wikipedian!! I guess I should have been on top of those proposals. Hopefully I'll get to edit with you in the future. I am currently using my PSP to type out my edits for now. Do you want to be part of the proposals? Please respond and Happy Editings!!! Jordan S. Wilson (talk) 14:31, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you'll notice at the top of my talk page, I prefer people to reply to me in the same place as the original message, so that the discussion stays in the same place. It makes it easier to read and follow. However, if you want to leave a {{talkback}} on my page saying that you have replied, that is fine.
Now, about your proposals: I'm not really interested in trains like you are, so I think I'll have to pass. Good luck though!

Re: WikiProjects U. S. Railroads and U. S. Mass Transit[edit]

It is possible to create US-centric wikiprojects on rail transport and rapid transit. When it's been brought up in the past (and the last mention that I remember was a couple years ago), the consensus was that the US-based editors that were participating were interested in enough other systems around the world that they didn't need the subcategorization, and that the standardization and collaboration from the worldwide wikiproject was helpful enough for the US-based content. I don't have a strong opinion on this right now, but I tried to set up the project banner and categorization to allow for easy additions of regional subprojects in the future. Although many of the editors who are active in the worldwide project were around the last time this was discussed, starting a new topic about it on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains may prove helpful. Slambo (Speak) 13:46, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template problems[edit]

Non template content in the templates you have created require "noinclude" tags, otherwise every article where you insert that template is categorized the same as the template. I have cleaned up Template:St. Louis MetroLink and Template:Bi-State Public Transit Agencies, the rest I leave to you, since I don't know how many you have created. I have removed some redundant categories that are parents of subcategories. For example MetroLink is a subcategory of Bi-State Development Agency. Generally, categories across BSDA articles are very confused and inconsistent. Secondarywaltz (talk) 01:05, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "state" parameter does not refer to the United States of America, but refers to the collapsed condition of the template. Read the Template:Navbox instructions for further information. Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:09, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There hasn't been much activity at WikiProject Missouri or any of its child projects lately, and I saw your name on the list of active participants. If you are willing to jump in again, please consider helping to revive the project:

If you know anyone who might be interested in Missouri (its history, culture, sports, people, places, architecture, etc.), please pass this message along to them! If you are still interested in the project but aren't currently active, please add yourself to the list of inactive participants at the bottom of this list. Thanks!

On behalf of the project,  fetchcomms 00:10, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying! If you anyone who might be interested in the project, do invite them to join in. Keep up the good work!  fetchcomms 19:43, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, good job!:) Thanks for keeping up with the project (someone else even thought it was inactive and tagged it, though the tag was later removed :P)  fetchcomms 15:46, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, we may have to turn some of the child projects into task forces or something, because I doubt there are enough people consistently involved with them or might just be too small for a whole project. However, the larger ones, like St. Louis or Kansas City could always use more coverage, like your work on local transportation. I personally am working to get List of tallest buildings in St. Louis as a FL, so I hope that, if enough people from the Missouri project are willing to join in with task forces to a certain area or revive activity/publicize the smaller child projects, that they can be saved. Thanks again for your work!  fetchcomms 21:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I saw some of the articles you have started, and it seems like, if there were some additional sources, they would be perfect for a DYK, which would bring some publicity because they are featured on the main page. I've done a few of those involving some St. Louis attractions (like Laumeier Sculpture Park), and that might help bring more word!  fetchcomms 21:33, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

←Of course! Feel free to be bold (but not reckless!) in anything that might be of interest to the project. Don't worry about the DYK too much, sometimes they take a bit to write and find sources. Anyhow, thanks for helping increase Wikipedia's coverage of anything Missouri- or St. Louis- related!  fetchcomms 22:00, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstars[edit]

My many thanks for the Excellent User Page Award and the Special Barnstar you left on my userpage.

They are very much appreciated.

In response to the Excellent User Page Award, I am actually looking at formatting it a bit better (making it shorter but wider rather then having a long list down the side) I just haven't had a lot of time recently.

I have nominated Carr Street (St. Louis), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carr Street (St. Louis). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Shadowjams (talk) 23:06, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Street articles[edit]

I realize you've created a large number of these street articles for various St. Louis streets. While I appreciate the effort, and the quality of some of these, I'm not convinced that all (or most) of them meet the notability criteria.

For a long time, there was criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (Transportation), which has been replaced by a new proposal at Wikipedia:Notability (streets, roads, and highways). In both cases though, the general notability criteria apply, which means it needs reliable sources that indicate its notability rather than just its existence. Most of the stubs you've created simply don't do this.

Please don't take my nominations for deletion personal. I appreciate the work. But there are advantages to having wikipedia focus on encyclopedia content, and not double as a road atlas. Shadowjams (talk) 23:19, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've grouped them together here. Your comments are welcome. Shadowjams (talk) 23:39, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Station names[edit]

Where did you find the station names for all of the proposed MetroLink corridors? --Millbrooky (talk) 17:32, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MetroFan, the enthusiasm you show trying to improve all the public transit articles for St. Louis is fantastic. I do have, however, severe reservations regarding the notability and verifiability of much of the content you have included. For example, the St. Charles Corridor has only ever existed as an idea. The county twice voted against sales tax in 1996 that would have funded a transportation authority that in turn would have seriously explored the idea of extending MetroLink. No agency has yet to study a St. Charles MetroLink alignment other than to say they -may- consider it. No map of a potential MetroLink alignment, to my knowledge, has ever existed and is why I believe the route map template you've included on the St. Charles Corridor and other pages must go. Please post future replies here. WP:V --Millbrooky (talk) 14:07, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chain of Rocks bridge[edit]

Hi Metrofan. I happened across you by accident, seeing that you had corrected the Category of an article I started, Grand Boulevard (St. Louis). Anyway, just wondering if anyone in your group would be interested in looking into the discrepancy issue described at Talk:New Chain of Rocks Bridge and at Chain of Rocks Bridge. Obviously this is a fairly minor question but I think we ought to have the correct info, if it is obtainable. If you're not interested in this question, no worries. Herostratus (talk) 13:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Userfy other MetroLink map templates[edit]

In light of the recent decision to WP:USERFY the MadisonCo template you created, I would like to propose we userfy the following templates, as well: MetroNorth, MetroSouth, MetroWest, NorthWest, DanielBoone, and St.Charles. I believe this should be done to maintain accuracy on the various MetroLink articles. --Millbrooky (talk) 15:39, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I finished moving the templates to your user space. You can find the templates here: MetroNorth, MetroSouth, MetroWest, NorthWest, DanielBoone, St.Charles. Hopefully, Metro will give us a reason to restore the templates sometime in the near future. --Millbrooky (talk) 19:01, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
