Hello again[edit]

Best to just move discussion here. I added an invite for the Teahouse above. That is really the best place to ask questions. They are volunteers, regular editors like you, but they've been here a while and have a good idea how things work around here. Super nice people. I've also added the welcome template above, which has some useful links. That should get you started. My time is sporadic, and I'm often tied up doing admin things, but will try to pop in from time to time when I can. Dennis Brown |  | WER 14:30, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, not sure how to present the case here as I felt I did on the previous talk page though. LeslieCola (talk) 16:43, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry so much about presenting cases yet. One of the pitfalls of editors is trying to change things before they understand the culture here. Yes, there is a culture here. When you log in, it is like being in a different country. Think of it like visiting England: You understand most of the words, you just aren't sure what some of it means. Learn the language, the culture a bit first. Edit things that AREN'T controversial for a couple of weeks, get a feel for the place and how we do things. That will make it easier to make the big changes. I can't explain it all, you have to get out and see for yourself. It isn't about convincing ME of anything, it is about convincing the editors of the articles you want changed. Once you speak the language a little better, understand the culture, I promise things will be 100x easier because you won't be an "outsider". And you sign the comment with four tilde marks. ~~~~ And you indent using : and/or * marks. That is part of what I mean, once you learn the basics, you get less frustrated with the process and you can make your case without getting into trouble. Well, where are things standing on the original quest? Trying to learn Wikispeak is fine, but for now the only goal is to get The Squids their page back, and meanwhile clean up the mess left on the Latour page with the sloppy merge. Why aren't those editors being penalized anyway for such poor decisions?LeslieCola (talk) 16:53, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the latest Squids page. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Squids&oldid=611365021

I hate to just walk away from this but I just don't get it. LeslieCola (talk) 17:01, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Again, the Teahouse. Go ask for assistance there. You can probably move a copy of the old article to your own user space, work on it there and get it up to snuff (if it is possible), and ask for it to be moved to mainspace, for instance. Now, due to copyright, this has to be done PROPERLY, but it can be done. That is why I pointed you to the Teahouse, to get ideas on how to solve the problem. There are answers that you don't even know about, its why you ask the pros over there. Generally, I try to get people started, deal with immediate problems, fix broken things, use the admin tools when I need to (block, protect, delete), but those guys specialize in helping people like you. Trust me. Dennis Brown |  | WER 17:45, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, just need to put this down for now. LeslieCola (talk) 17:55, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
