A tag has been placed on Hanlon Financial Systems Lab requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Ridernyc (talk) 16:17, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Financial Systems Center, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

Status and Advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I deleted both of the above articles. It is not productive to try to avoid deletion by resubmitting an article under a different title.

There are three problems with this article.

First, it was a copyright violation. Most of it was copied from the lab page, which is under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike. But Wikipedia uses a CC-Att -SA license, and material restricted to non commercial use is not acceptable here. Our principle is that Wikipedia content must be available for all to use, even for commercial purposes. You could of course relicense the content but I do not advise it. First, some of it is copied from Bloomberg & Reuters, who may have given you permission to use it for your own internal purposes, but certainly have given no permission to us, and you cannot license what you do not own.

Second, even if you own the copyright and were willing to give us permission according to WP:DCM, the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable. As indeed this is not, in multiple respects.

A Wikipedia article needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release: don't praise the subject Don't talk about the overall importance of the facilities in the laboratory. Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to your students and faculty. That sort of content is considered promotional.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know.

Third, there is in any case no evidence to indicate it is encyclopedic notability. A Wikipedia article needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. It would be extremely usual for a laboratory within a university used primarily for teaching to have such notability. Even those laboratories within a university used for research rarely have encyclopedic notability unless they are major free-standing institutions, certainly not merely a room in a building. Unless there is something truly exceptional to say, I do not see how an article suitable for an encyclopedia could be written.

If you resubmit this material, you are likely to be blocked. There are many important topics in business that need articles. I urge to to work on them. DGG ( talk ) 23:57, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

advice=[edit]

I have deleted the article on the Lab. It is now the 4th time that an article for this teaching laboratory in a department of a university has been deleted under one or another name. Every regular editor here who has looked at it has concluded the article is hopelessly promotional. It might conceivably be possible to write an article that is less promotional, but the subject is not conceivably notable, and on the basis of my experience here, I must advise you that we have to my knowledge never approved an article on a lab of this sort, and are not likely to approve any possible article on this one. In order to prevent you from spending further effort in useless promotion, and to prevent us spending further effort in deleting it, I have blocked re-creation of the article.

I must also give you a warning, that you appear to be an entirely promotional editor, presumably with a conflict of interest with respect to this laboratory, and any similar further editing on you part is likely to result in a block. I place the formal warning below. DGG ( talk ) 05:08, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. DGG ( talk ) 05:09, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Citation needed test requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

August 2012[edit]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for spamming or advertising. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.
