Henckels[edit]

Please watch your edits to the Henckels page, they push the page towards an {{ad}} tag. Things like awards should be cited on an independant website, and the 'bragging' aspects of the article should be toned down, eliminated or cited. WLU 01:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the information contained in this edit - wikipedia is not a place to advertise, and placing links to stores or sites that sell the knives is too close to advertising for my taste. Thanks. WLU 14:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}Dear WLU,

You should check out some other kitchen cutlery pages then. They provide the same information that you removed from our page. To be fair, all pages should be subject to the same rules.

Also, as far as "bragging" with awards, I would not call it bragging at all. The company received awards, its a fact. Check out the website at www.jahenckels.com. You can check out the iF design website and the reddot award website for confirmation. The awards listing in no way said anything besides the facts. Each knife series was listed with the award it received. If that's bragging, then I'm confused.

For the places to find Henckels products, several other brands list where to purchase their products.

Hello, the helpme tag does not notify only one editor. It signals any editor watching CAT:HELPME that you are in need of assistance for a question. To send WLU the above message, put it on the editor's user talk page. You can find this page by clicking on the editor's signed name, then clicking the "discussion" tab at the top. Hope this helps! Thanks for taking the time to reply to me regards this matter. To let you know, I'm replying on the Henckles page, so the conversation will be available to any other edtiors. It should be up shortly. Also, please look into WP:TALK for guidelines on formatting your replies on talk pages, and WP:SIGN, which basically says sign your posts with four tildes (i.e. ~~~~) and puts up an automatic time stamp. Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:F4032.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:04-F4032.jpg. The copy called Image:04-F4032.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 18:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

Your recent edits to the Henckels page are a lot better - the only thing I have to say is the wikilink should be retained in the page (specifically to ergonomic - I've re-added it). Much less POV and more in keeping with the tone of wikipedia. Thanks for compromising on this. --WLU 00:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

In case you are interested, I've uploaded a couple pics of my knives over at the Wikimedia Commons (here's my contributions, I don't know a better way to link to the commons, sorry). There's also a pretty detailed picture of my Twin Cuisine peeling knife that I can't really put up without removing other pictures on the page. In case you are interested, they're there for use. There's a reply for you on my talk page. WLU 15:11, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STOP EDITING THE HENCKELS PAGE IMMEDIATELY. I'll have a longer reply in a second. WLU 15:24, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article J.A. Henckels, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. WLU 15:25, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contributions[edit]

Ok, if you keep editing Henckels, you can be blocked, pretty much permanently and without further recourse.

Note that this does not mean that you can't contribute towards the page - you are allowed to edit the talk page, and other pages on wikipedia. That's fine, and won't get you blocked. On the J.A. Henckels talk page, you can suggest changes to the page, which other editors like myself (or anyone else) can do. However, if you make the change to the mainspace page, you can be blocked. Wikipedia does this to avoid conflict of interest from parties like employers editing their employees wikipage. As you said, "Wikipedia is a great place to post this kind of information". That's the problem, it's too great and companies end up spamming all over the place. I'm not saying you are doing so, your edits to Henckels are pretty good, and I'd be willing to add information you provide to the page, provided it is a relaible source, plus you're not belligerent about it.

In other words, you can't put up information about ice-hardening techniques. But I can. And if you provide me with sources, I will review them, and attempt to integrate the information into the page in a way that is neutral and acceptable. The Henckels webpage is an acceptable source for information, as is print material that is not online (though naturally websources are better since I can actually read them).

If you've got questions or comments about the COI stuff, I can forward you to a couple of admins, which I will be doing anyways. Editing with a COI is taken very seriously, and can result in blocks. I think if you do so despite warnings, you could have even your talk page contributions deleted. And if a suspiciously similar editor shows up in the near future, IP addresses can be checked by admins to see if people are trying to get around blocks.

Yeah, all of this is kinda scary (as scary as wikipedia can be anyway), but you are in luck in that I'm sympathetic to the company - I've got some Henckels, and rather like them. So I'm willing to post stuff for you. WLU 15:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the spamming concerns, as my own company also has issues with that. My information came from the Henckels webpage and the brochures that came with the product. I found this information on the website http://usa.jahenckels.com/index.php?simple_view=15 . That's all I was going to add. I do think it's kind of crazy and paranoid to remove my posting abilities. I never knowingly posted anything in violation, and have tried to follow the rules. In addition to the Henckels page, I've contributed to many wiki pages in cooperation with other users, never had this issue. Personally I have no interest in Henckels, it was more of a minor request from my boss and a chance to work on some type of editorial content. As a side note, the knives are pretty good though, we got a Four Star set here.

Sorry, I don't have time to deal with this right now - my apologies for coming down with so much text on your talk page, we (or I at least) take COI pretty seriously here. Thanks for your understanding and reply, and finally, if you want to add info regarding the ice-hardening (which I am myself curious about), just find some reliable sources and add it to the page. If you have problems with the formatting or how to add references, feel free to leave the text and links on my page or the Henckels talk page, and I'll pretty them up for you. Also, please note the conversation found here regards yourself. Thanks, WLU 17:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 16:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You got a sinebot message because you only used three tildes (~~~), which leaves just your username and no timestamp.
The page could be used to support the fact that it is ice-hardened, but would require other sources to state that the ice hardening is of benefit. That's a relialbe source for the process being used, but not for the process being useful. WLU (talk) 21:06, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
