Personal Attacks[edit]

Hello, I was just wondering if you might be willing to remove you personal insults to Michealsanders made on the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion page. I orginally removed them, but decided that I do not have the authority, and should ask the commenter instead. I will also be asking Michealsanders to remove his. This would help renew a more pleasant discussion of Harry Potter. If you would like to continue your personal attacks and arguments with Michealsanders, please do so on his or your user pages. Thank you very much, --User:Lulurascal

Sorry, I confused you with someone else. So, disregard my comment.--User:Lulurascal

Jay, Quick Request[edit]

Head to Bowling alley photo. It doesn't have a specific image tag. I know you say your friend took it. However, you need to get your friend's permission to post it. Just have him sign something saying it's released into the public domain. It shouldn't be a problem, and that way, Wikipedia can't have any issues later. Then, after he does, just put {{PD}} on the image page.

I, the undersigned, legally release all photographs of a bowling alley taken by me taken (Insert date here) into the public domain.

Seeking you support[edit]

I am seeking your support and participation for starting the "Indian Collaboration of the Week". Please enlist your support on the page Wikipedia_talk:Indian_wikipedians'_notice_board if you would like to support. Thanks Arunram 08:38, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Bowling Alley Photo update[edit]

Jay, if you just get him to give it to you under the public domain, it doesn't matter if it's declared public domain on the web. Wikipedia just needs to be sure they won't be sued. Superm401 17:17, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Re: Talk:Shar Rukh Khan[edit]

Jay, my understanding is that one should only restore articles according to Undeletion policy, not for any other reason. Note that undeleting when creating a redirect is at best a harmless nuisance wasting few SQL tables (like in this case), but at worst it can cause all sorts of legal problems if there are copyvios or any libel lurking in the deleted revisions. We have some deleted pages with hundreds of revisions of unbelievably bad nonsense created by vandals; it would be very annoying to find out someone had opened such a troll graveyard on a whim! As for voting for (or even listing of) speedy deletions, that is a rare exception not normally done for obvious cases, like this one. We delete several hundreds of "jklsdfjskdfj" pages every day. Just from what decade your knowledge of Wikipedia deletion is? ;-) Cordially, jni 16:36, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Your work on Filmfare awards[edit]

Thanks for the work you've been doing tabulating the awards. It makes them a lot easier to read. I started the pages and then dropped the ball, so it's nice to see them being improved. Zora 20:37, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Abraham Lincoln[edit]

I never added anything about a clock to the Lincoln biography, as I saw in your edit summary. I am quite offended.

Hey[edit]

Thanks for stopping by. Another list person - we must be related. What's with the above glove almost thrown down? Never mind. I don't want to know. It gave me a good chortle as is. I restrained myself and did not change the "I"'s to "We"'s. Cheers. --Mothperson 20:54, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jay,

This message about the image you uploaded, Image:Maha shoretemple.jpg. Its a great image but if you see on the info page, as its copyrighted, it can be deleted, also image with such license can not be kept on commons. I would hate to see this image go, is there any way to release this under GFDL or some creative commons license? Thanks --Spundun 07:50, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You posted on my talk page:
Hello Spundun, thanks for bringing the copyright issue to my notice. I talked to the copyright owner and he is more than willing to release the image under GFDL. Pls let me know the procedure to follow. Jay 10:30, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thats great news. You need to tag the image as GFLD. Also it would be great if the author has a website that you can put a link to. (usually people put a link to the website and a link to the image on that website). If he is a wikipedia user then you can just post his username. A lot of wikipedia users take photographs themself then they upload and provide info like what kind of camera they used etc. Also what is this location? Where is it in India?
Hope this helps. --Spundun 18:40, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I just checked the image again but you havent yet tagged it and provided the source info for it. Please do it soon. Thank you. --Spundun 04:31, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
You posted on my talk page:
Hey thanks for the reminder. I went to the Wikipedia:Template_messages/Image_namespace page but not sure which tag to give, there are many tags under the GNU section itself. Can you suggest a tag, since you have been following the image tagging process. Jay 07:27, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Umm I would suggest adding {{cc-by-sa-2.0}} tag. This license is simple to understand and it makes sure that the original creator(your friend in this case) gets credit for his work. Also it requires that the derivative work created from this image also be released under this license, so it can not be restricted in copyrights. Alternatively if the author wants to truely give away the picture to public, he can release it under public domain by using the tag {{PD}}. This means that others can use this pictures without any restrictions. They are not required to give credit to the original creator (nice people would still do that anyway :) ) and also lets the derivative work be copyrightable. A lot of people on wikimedia projects release their images under PD. I think on wikimedia projects PD and GFDL are the most popular licenses for images. But cc-by-sa is simpler than GFDL, and more applicable to photographs also.
Also, please dont forget to put a link to the copyright holders webpage if he has any.
Hope this helps. --Spundun 07:44, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Btw, Is this image available in higher resolution? Say 5 mega pixel? I would like to nominate it as a Featured picture, I love it. --Spundun 07:51, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Public Domain // Bollywood Pictures[edit]

Hello, Jay. I just checked the disclaimer over at Bollywood4u.com and last time I checked there was no "assumed". Question is: What do we do now? I don't know any Image Experts here at Wiki -- if you give me a name or tell me where I can find them or how to contact them, I'll take care about the whole issue. BTW, thanks for telling me; I don't want anyone to get into trouble for those pix. --Plumcouch 18:04, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jay. I took care of the Bollywood4u.com issue. All pictures of the actors and actresses have a known source and a known copyright holder and are now labeled as "promotional photos". I'm still doing some research for names of some of the copyright holders, but besides that everything should be alright. Also, there is a new photo in John Abraham's article -- the old pictures with unknown origin can be deleted. If there are still problems, contact me. Best regards, --Plumcouch 18:20, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Steve.gif[edit]

I didn't make the pic of Image:Steve.gif, I just reverted it to an eariler version by User:Whiskey909. I don't know why User:Jackfrostzzz changed it to a cartoon. (Maybe because the poorly titled Steve.gif was going to point somewhere else, but didn't.) Anyway, a Google search yielded this page where the pic looked like it was cropped from the image here on Steve Oedekerk's website. -Hyad 17:41, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have also re-listed it on AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bindows (2nd nomination), in line with the VfU debate and Wikipedia:Undeletion policy. You will need to make your edits and call by the AfD as soon as possible. -Splashtalk 02:05, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I presume this was an accident, but please do not remove the AfD tag from the article until the debate is closed. Thank you. -Splashtalk 13:23, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I figured as much. I was calling by the articles I undeleted from VfU yesterday (my time) and found that one of them had had its AfD tag removed by an IP that has been generally irksome, so I reinstated it and warned the IP. Then, I found a registered user had done the same to my other undeletion! So I left a message for you too, but a much nicer one than the IP got... -Splashtalk 14:05, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request,Nomination for removal Khalistan article[edit]

Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on wikipedia have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:30, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Raj Kumar[edit]

Mr Jay. The matter you have put regarding violence in Bangalore after Dr. Raj's death seems like an attempt to degrade the great man or his fans. Why would the world be interested in knowing how many busses were burnt by his fans? Or what the financial loss was. If you want the world to know more about violence in every Indian city,I dont think there would be a space available on the iternet to do so, considering the amount of violence that takes place in India on a daily basis. Isnt there violence in Delhi as we discuss this issue (the bomb blasts at the Jama Masjid?. Try to be a more well informed and intelligent user of Wikipedia. I am aware that no opportunity is spared to degrade Bangalore by outsiders as well as by Bangaloreans of Non Kannada background. I wont be surprised if you are one of them. Try to open a different page to wash your dirty linen. You dont seem to aware of difference between an encyclopedia and a news paper. Dinesh Kannambadi

Category:Major Cities in India[edit]

Hello Jay!
Thanks for the note. I had created the category initially as part of Template:Major Cities in India, which was put for deletion on my own request as it became redundant with Template:Metropolitan cities of India, since there was no proper scale to measure a "major" city, though Status of Indian cities does give some ideas. Anyhow, I support your view and have voted for the deletion of the category. Thanks again! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK

Mahawiki[edit]

Hi dear Admin,

This is to bring to your notice the wiki-feud I've been having with User:Mahawiki for almost one month now. It started with the Belgaum page which went to mediation, warnings were handed out to both parties, and when Mahawiki's incivil ways continued, Admin:Bluyugen handed him a warning and then a block. Find that here.

I do not want to turn the clock back and go through all those content disputes again. Infact, I dont want to present to you the details of any content dispute we've had. All I want to present to you is the brazen incivility and personal attacks being committed by User:Mahawiki either in the course of his content disputes or even simply just out of spite.

All the diffs(exhibiting his incivility and personal attacks) I provide below are from AFTER, I REPEAT, "AFTER". ADMIN BLUGYUEN INTERVENED, WARNED ALL OF US, AND HANDED MAHAWIKI A BLOCK.

Please find below dozens of instances of blatant incivility and personal attacks by User:Mahawiki either on me or on User:Dineshkannambadi and all Kannadigas in general. His remarks are in extremely bad taste and counterproductive resulting in undermining of the good faith efforts of the other editors to carry on editing their articles.

While I dont want to go into each and every diff and explain it, just to give you a sample of his incivility, he has made edits where, even if only in jest or sarcasm, he makes atrocious claims like, I am on a kill Mahawiki mission, that User:Dineshkannambadi is the Kannada (Bin) Laden(sic). In another edit, even if only for jest(which I certainly dont find amusing nor appreciate esp., when it comes from him), he has threatened to sue me. He has called us cultural TERRORISTS, losers, notorious, shameless etc., etc. He uses the word vandalism like one would use 'Hi' and 'Hello'.

Find all the above and much much much more in the diffs I've provided below. Whats worse is his antics are going unchecked because Admin:Blugyen who knows about our feud is on a wikibreak and Admin:Sundar whose intervention I've sought more than once, is busy with other things(I presume, in real life) - which ofcourse, I dont hold against either of them.

But wikipedia will be a poorer place if brazen incivility like this goes unchecked for weeks simply because many admins dont know about it or the ones who know are by force of circumstances, too busy to deal with it.

I request immediate and harsh action on Mahawiki.

Once again, let me remind everyone that in the links below, none of them pertain to any content disputes. I belive in dealing with the content disputes on the relevant talk pages and dont usually bring it out on user talk pages.

Infact, I have even not listed below, the atrocious claim he made a couple of days ago that I had deleted and later undeleted an article. Also not listed below is his blatant removal of {{fact}} tags I had added in a couple of articles without even clarifying or providing a citation for the claim which I had tagged. Also not listed below may be umpteen other instances of incivility and npa violations on his part that I might have missed.

All the diffs below deal purely and only with his brazen incivil comments and personal attacks not just on me, but on User:Dineshkannambadi and also highly respected historians like Mr. Suryanath Kamath et al(who have been cited in some articles by Dinesh) whom he has trashed and dismissed in the most uncivil manner possible.

Apart from this he also makes disparaging remarks on Karnataka and Karnataka politicians who he keeps claiming are oppressing and torturing Marathi speaking people in Belgaum. This is not a content dispute, this is plain nonsense and insanely belligerent language.

His incivility apart, he has made it a habit and a routine to go around all over wikipedia branding me and Dinesh as 'Kannadi' vandals bent on Kannadizing all articles we touch. Ask him if we have included any uncited material or if we has ever cited any references for his numerous claims or whether he has taken it up on the article talk page instead of on a random user talk page. His answer will be negative. And yet, that doesnt stop him from going around shouting that we have been vandalising articles!!

Anway, I dont want to veer this towards the 'content disputes' which is a whole different matter altogether. Content disputes can always be discussed and agreements reached. Let me present to you just his brazen incivility and personal attacks.

Here we go -

Rajesh Khanna[edit]

I fixed the page. It had been worked over by a fan who speaks English as a second language. EVERYTHING he added was personal opinion, and was easy to excise.

This is becoming more and more of a problem, as more Indians come online. There are all too many editors who speak Hinglish rather than English and who identify very strongly with a particular actor or actress. Zora 18:51, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't SEE any new material of merit in what I deleted. I saw claims that he is a suave wonderful actor, a victim of unjust discrimination, a squeaky-clean MP (never indicted!), and long lists of films that the editor liked. Lists of famous films are personal opinion, and just repeat the filmography. We can rescue "notable films" from personal opinion by investigating box office revenues and then listing something like "five top-grossing films of Rajesh Khanna." But the editors who just want to list their favorite films don't seem to bother with research. AAARGH! RANT! STOMP!
Perhaps I should log off and recover my equanimity, after logging on to find a swathe of spam and fangush. Zora 19:11, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If your wikipedia is a page represents fact and figure about any person or product, then in the page about Rajesh Khanna, a considerable amount of injustice has been done to him in comparison to Amitabh's page. If you can give the Election Result of Allahabad for Amit, then why do not you mention the Election REsult of New Delhi constituency for Rajesh Khanna, whose credit is much much bigger than Amit. As Amit won from Allahabad during Congress Wave and Rajesh Khanna from New Delhi during non-Congress rule in the country (Rajiv Gandhi expired after voting on Rajesh Khanna was over). Besides this fact there are so many factors which reflects your biasedness and injustice about Rajesh Khanna as you tries to cutrail always the creditable facts of Rajesh Khanna. Stop this I warn you.

Replaceable fair use Image:Thomas Muster.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Thomas Muster.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 01:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
