Orphaned non-free image (Image:QI-Series 1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:QI-Series 1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Gary_Howe.jpg

I have tagged Image:Gary_Howe.jpg as {{replaceable fair use}}. If you wish to dispute this assertion, please add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}} to the image description page and a comment explaining your reasoning to the the image talk page. Rettetast 21:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Wikiality.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wikiality.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 12:10, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed a few days ago you tagged the article My Musical with the Comedy Wikiproject banner, and gave the article a B rating. I've been working on this article recently, and I want to improve it as much as possible, so I was wondering if you could think of any specific things I should be doing in order to improve it. Thanks so much! --Gpollock 00:23, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin Greig - Beatrice2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Quentin X 16:58, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Citation placement

Hey, thanks for your message and question. WP:CITE recommends placing the citations to the right f punctuation where possible. Hence [5], for example, should be placed on the right hand side of the full stop. Hope that helps? Let me know if I can help you with anything else. All the best, The Rambling Man 15:44, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Done, GA now, well done. The Rambling Man 16:14, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Congratulations on getting Zig Zag up to GA. :-) GreenReaper 16:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
You know what they say - "There's no problems, only solutions." Figuring out how to get to the right place is just part of the wiki way. At least it showed people cared about the topic. :-) GreenReaper 17:14, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Furry fandom GA on hold

I've set out what needs to be done at the bottom of the talk page. Overall a decent article but I still have some concerns about referencing and neutrality.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 11:07, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

You've improved the article but I still feel more citations are necessary for me to be able to pass this as GA. I'm not too concerned with the neutrality now with the insertion of the anti-furry section, but there are still unreferenced statements. Who says that furries use Second Life? Who says that the furry fandom cites cultural traditions and Aesop's Fables as starting points? Basically, I'd like every statement (that isn't a broad, non-weasel worded summary such as in the intro) to be referenced before I can pass it.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
In addition, be aware that while WikiFur is a useful resource, it is not considered a reliable source, and so should not appear in the references section of articles. Most (if not all) furry websites are not reliable sources, although it is fair to rely on, say, the Anthrocon website for non-controversial information specifically about Anthrocon. Instead, substantive statements should be supported by references from sources such as newspaper articles, if available. If not, then the information should not appear in the article. GreenReaper 15:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I was going to mention reliable sources issues. Since WikiFur is a wiki, surely it isn't a reliable source as the content can change? As for everything else, some of them seem alright as if they come from within the fandom describing their own activities, they should be reliable enough if they are trusted sites within the community, but as an outsider I don't know enough about the subject.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 17:14, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Also, I strongly recommend you merge or integrate the "see also" section into the article for GA status.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 23:31, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
On top of that, please unredlink the non-notable related links from the page. It looks better.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 23:40, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Outnumberd

I do apologise for redirecting the List of episodes page you newly created, but I do not believe it is necessary for only 6 episodes. It produces a very small article, already labelled a "stub", with no prospect of enlarging it. Seperate article should only be created if the main article is too large, and in this case that is not true. Outnumbered is a perfect length and splitting the article is not needed. If more series air then recreate but at the moment one article is better than an unnecessary two.--UpDown 08:06, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Requested articles: WikiFur

Just so you know, there used to be a Wikipedia article on WikiFur. It got AfD'ed. --Mwalimu59 15:47, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Do you know why the article on WikiFur was deleted? ISD 15:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
The discussion is still available at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WikiFur (2nd nomination). I think the article should have been kept, but that's Wikipedia for you. Evidently a WikiFur article had been created and deleted once before even that (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WikiFur (1st nomination)) but in that case it was more understandable as WikiFur was too new at the time to have achieved much notability. --Mwalimu59 16:08, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
In two words, "reliable sources", though I don't think anyone actually disputed the facts stated within the article. The first deletion was endorsed by myself because the article was crap and the timing was inappropriate. The second was not (it also had a deletion review). It appears that ED interfered covertly (their website states that "it wasn't Miltopia who first started garnering votes."), although I am not sure exactly how much influence they had on the final result. The article still exists on the Russian Wikipedia, and I kept a copy at WikiFur, although it has not been kept up to date. Since that date WikiFur has been given as a useful site by two third-party published news articles, and its own news was in one case syndicated on Wikinews. It has also been around for over two years and have 8,000 articles. WikiFur is considered by many editors to have "a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors" for external links purposes, but that may or may not be sufficient for an actual article. Notability of Collar Factory

A tag has been placed on Collar Factory requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. WebHamster 11:54, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Green Wing Special

Hi, and thanks for the message. As I wrote on the talk page, I'll be posting a review in full over the next few days (busy weekend, so it may not be until Monday). I didn't say there were problems; there may be, but I haven't actually done the review yet! I realise you've been waiting a while - GAN is backlogged again - and I can only apologise for that. The review is on the way though... ;) All the best, EyeSereneTALK 16:04, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

I have now reviewed the article and placed it on hold. There are a few issues, some of them fairly major, that remain to be addressed (detailed comments on the talk page) - to be honest it might be asking a bit much to get this done in seven days, but since you've been kept waiting it only seems fair to give you the benefit of the full process ;) Regards, EyeSereneTALK 11:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

It will produce the following userbox

To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. I noticed that you keep adding them to the Simpsons episode GACs, but since the Comedy WikiProject is a "parent" to the Simpsons WikiProject, wouldn't that mean that everything with a Simpsons tag is technically already under the comedy one? -- Scorpion0422 20:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: 2girls1cup on Village pump (policy)

Hi ISD,

I wanted to stop by and leave you a comment regarding your question on the village pump. Through sheer (mis)fortune, I've been involved in at least two of the speedy deletions of this article. Both of the versions I saw made no claims to notability and cited no sources. I requested salting in the talk page of the last deleted edition simply because we were dealing with the same page over and over again, and the deleting admin agreed with me. In other words, the protection against page recreation was not because of the controversial nature of the content, as Wikipedia is not censored--it was purely an administrative maneuver designed to save us all from having to deal with it once every week or so. --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 13:39, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, as the protected page tells you when you try and edit it, the issue would have to be raised at DRV first before an article could be created. Given this, I would suggest to any prospective author that they first create a draft article in their sandbox clearly establishing notability per WP:WEB (and maybe even run it by the admin who salted the page to get a second opinion) before bringing the issue up at DRV. --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 15:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of A Doemain of Our Own

A tag has been placed on A Doemain of Our Own requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use Image:Richard_Preddy.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Richard_Preddy.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 23:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of The Colbert Report episodes (2008), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: List of The Colbert Report episodes (2007). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 09:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Oliver - Green Wing - Series 1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Oliver - Green Wing - Series 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Felix the Cat

Couldn't it be said that this belongs within the scope of the genre of comedy? Cirt (talk) 09:21, 3 January 2008 (UTC).

  • Oh, okay. Well, I left off Animaniacs but added back Felix. I really like that you've been tagging stuff lately with {{Comedy}}, I think the scope could be broadened a bit, especially some leeway given for articles that have WP:FA status. Cirt (talk) 09:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC).
    • Thanks for letting me know. What do you think about re-adding Scooby Doo? I always seem to remember hearing a laugh track in the background, so it seems to be meant to be a comedy... Cirt (talk) 09:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC).
      • Okay, really either way, it would have been nice to have another WP:FA for the portal, but at any rate there are plenty of WP:FAs in the portal already :). By the way, I have a good deal more stuff I want to do on the portal next and some neat additional sections, but after a while I plan on taking it to WP:PPREV and later hopefully give it a go at WP:FPORTC. Just thought you'd like to know, as you're active at WP:COMEDY. I could keep you posted if you want. Cirt (talk) 09:32, 3 January 2008 (UTC).
  • Oh, there's no worries about not having enough WP:FA content. The portal already has enough probably to make it through WP:FPORTC - I just have a couple more sections I want to add, stuff like that. But yeah, any added WP:FAs that make it through WP:FAC and are already part of WP:COMEDY, can only be an added bonus at this point. Cirt (talk) 09:36, 3 January 2008 (UTC).

Simpsons pages

I hate to remove other project banners, but I'm not entirely sure what the Simpsons list of awards and cast members have to do with the overall scope of comedy, they seem like very Simpsons specific lists to me. -- Scorpion0422 21:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Now Show.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Now Show.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Breno talk 11:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
