November 2016[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "IMarbot", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it contains the suffix "-bot", which is generally reserved for authorized bot accounts. In addition, it IMarbot. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. CAPTAIN RAJU () 21:27, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a Bot[edit]

I have used the username iMarbot on many different social media websites and other sites with public profile pages for consistency as to keep my online presence collected. Such examples: https://twitter.com/iMarbot https://www.reddit.com/user/iMarbot http://steamcommunity.com/id/iMarbot . If I was pretending to be a bot then I would have capitalized the the B to make the word Bot stand out, it is not such. The username iMarbot also comes from "Mar" being the first 3 letters of my first name and "Bot" being the first 3 letters of my surname. I have no other username used anywhere for which I can use here and I would rather not have to come up with a new username for one website which won't be used anywhere else.

I understand what you're saying, and to be perfectly honest I agree with your position. Unfortunately, the policy is very clear, if you edit under this name you will end up being blocked. The only exception is cases where the bot suffix arises naturally, which isn't really the case here. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:31, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is why many websites have tags and such for Bots and don't use usernames which don't even have automatic form checking systems to avoid this... And hiding the policy behind a "Help me choose" is not smart either considering most people have a username they want to use and don't need help to come up with one, it should be listed as username guidelines or something on the signup page... I guess I won't edit anything then, that's Wikipedia's loss honestly. Never heard of a "IMar" Bot, no one is even going to get confused by that, not capitalized and its not like "ModerationBot" or something like that that its obviously a bot with a use case, "IMar" isn't even a word let alone something a bot is made to do. It is known around here that the username policy is not made sufficiently evident to new users. Unfortunately a proper fix has been slow in coming. There are dozens of bots running around Wikipedia with all sorts of unusual names that don't really describe what it is they do, so that argument is no help I'm afraid. Like I said, I don't personally agree with this policy, and I won't personally block you, but things being what they are somebody probably will if you keep using this name. I may try again to get this policy changed to be more reasonable. I attempted it once before but that was several years ago and opinions on the matter may have changed in the meantime. TfL roundels[edit]

Hi, a belated thank you for the link. I will get to work on them soon. Cloudbound (talk) 23:30, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
