New Wave songs[edit]

Because the "Artist songs" categories were already filed in Category:New Wave songs. There's no need for a song to be in Category:New Wave songs and Category:Duran Duran songs, for example, if Category:Duran Duran songs is itself sitting in Category:New Wave songs. Question[edit]

Question
Hiya,

I saw that you removed the lyrics I put in Build Me Up, Buttercup. I don't care a whole lot either way, but I was confused by your note that they were "non-encyclopedic".

If you meant that in a general sense as in "this looks unprofessional," I guess everyone's got a right to their opinion.

If you meant that in a cultural way, as in "other Wikipedia song entries do not have lyrics, so this one shouldn't either," then I must look at what never was and ask "why not?"

If you meant that literally, as in "this information does not belong in an encyclopedia entry about the song" then I don't understand your definition of encyclopedic. "Comprehensive in terms of information" is the one I'm going by, comprehensive meaning "complete." The lyrics are information that is not just important but intrinsic to the song. And yes, to anticipate an argument, so is the sheet music, sure. And an .mp3 file? Why the heck not! Of course, you couldn't get the rights to post those things... but that doesn't change the definition of "comprehensive".

Genuinely curious,

Grammargal Grammargal (talk) 01:46, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aha! Got it.[edit]

Hi Hiddenstranger,

Thanks for your answer -- the content policy was what I was looking for. One of the reasons I posted the lyrics is that there is a surprisingly sophisticated internal rhyme scheme instead of the standard ABAB pop structure. Which, I suppose, might make a good addition to the page -- so I'll do it that way. Thanks again! Synthpop New Wave groups - You were right[edit]

Hello,
As you probably know, the discussion regarding Category:Synth-pop new wave musical groups has been closed. I can say that my opinions about this category have changed and I support its existence on Wikipedia. Nevertheless, I still think that the category may be renamed with a more appropriate sounding name or the modern electropop bands may be seperated with an independent category. I just wanted to know your opinions on that as you've created the regarding category. I'd will be grateful if you would share your them. Thank you. Clark Datchler page[edit]

Hi,

I saw you removed my edits on Clark Datchler's page. I added links to Discogs in the singles sections and added two more singles to the lists. Did I do anything wrong? Was it the discogs links that are not ok for Wiki? In case I apologize. The two singles added are actually official. Thanks in advance --Cat italia (talk) 13:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and happy new year. Thank you for creating the article about Runnin' Away (Sly and the Family Stone song).

I saw your hatnote changes at Runnin' Away and Running Away, and I wonder whether all the songs should have parenthetical identifiers in their titles and one of the "regular" titles, perhaps "Running Away", should be a disambiguation page. Blak Prophetz Article[edit]

Hi Hiddenstrange, I would like to recommend reverting the page you just edited back to the original page name/url Blak_Prophetz as the artist is namely Blak Prophetz and has sometimes referred to himself as Sure Shot but his name has always been Blak Prophetz previously and even now. This can be clearly seen via all of his releases. I think it is wrong for the page name to be called his personal name as that is not what his achievements was made from or by as the primary name should be the stage name and not the personal name for example Marvin Gaye was born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr and his page is not called the latter whereas Blak Prophetz page has been called Mark Duffus. I'm sure you can get where I'm coming from but please consider the latter for the musicians’ fans and musical known name in the music industry. Please revert the page URL and page name to Blak Prophetz for the respect of the musician’s achievements and brand. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blak_Prophetz Thanks for your understandings. Avon Villa (talk) 11:43, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Avon Villa: I moved it back to "Sure Shot (rapper)" as the article is about himself as an individual; Blak Prophetz is the name of the group in which he's a member of. Though Duffus continues to use the name to this day, it was originally used as the group's name and searching for "Blak Prophetz" here on Wiki will redirect to the article anyhow, plus all Blak Prophetz releases credit him as Sure Shot e.g. "Produced and mixed by Sure Shot (Mark Duffus)" so "Sure Shot" is a known alias of his. If there was a separate article on the group, then of course that would use the name "Blak Prophetz". Hiddenstranger (talk) 22:22, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hiddenstranger: Thank you for responding sir, just one further request which I believe is necessary. I can see that the URL is called Sure Shot (rapper). Sure Shot is a multi skilled musician, primarily a producer, rapper and drummer. I believe it would make better sense to have the inclusive term in the bracket to include that of (Producer/Rapper) Avon Villa (talk) 09:40, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hiddenstranger, thanks for your inputs. I'm quiet busy to prepare the expanding stuff within the german article, which I will bring in here, when it's done there. 1+2 and Hydrology Reclassification?[edit]

After taking another look at what is considered the minimal length of an album, I'm wondering if the first two releases by Recoil should be reclassified as albums rather than EPs since they run over 30 minutes. Shaneymike (talk) 02:14, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It seems the reason they were classed as EPs here is because they contain two and three tracks respectively. But due to the total length of each, and the definition of album, I say yes they can be reclassified as albums. Even on Discogs they are under the Albums section, although for 1 + 2, it's classified as a mini-album. Hiddenstranger (talk) 02:45, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When you have a moment, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a look at the article for Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies to see if that warrants being reclassified as an album rather than an EP since it clocks in (just barely) over the 30-minute mark. Although I'm not the first user to bring this up in it's talk page, I did start a new discussion this morning. As tempting as it is to take the bull by the horns, I know it's better to establish a consensus before making changes of this sort. Thank you for your time and kind consideration. Shaneymike (talk) 15:43, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes this would qualify as an album rather than an EP. Please make the change, thanks. Hiddenstranger (talk) 11:00, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me. I started a discussion about doing that here. Shaneymike (talk) 10:00, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Debut EPs and albums[edit]

I noticed that you reversed my edit for the category debut EPs on Waysted (album), claiming that it was the band's first EP. I have been editing album articles for 12 years now and it is the first time that a band have multiple debuts. I understood since now that "debut" meant the first time a band released something on the market, a debut single or a debut album or a debut EP. Following your reasoning, there should be a category for debut demos, debut live albums, debut compilation albums, debut greatest hits, debut remix, and so on. How many times should a band debut? And is it in any way important for Wikipedia to categorize so many debuts? I can't follow the infinite debates behind the scenes about such topics and I'm ready to stand corrected, but I think that a band should have one debut for the single format and one for the long-playing format, being albums or EPs (although it was often debated if the EPs should be considered singles or mini-albums). I would like to be illuminated on the subject, thanks. Lewismaster (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, yes that is what the debut categories are for, to categorize bands and artist's first studio albums, EPs and singles. Debut live albums and remix albums were created before but were deleted after discussions (although Category:Debut mixtape albums hasn't yet been considered for deletion), so we can't have these types of specific debut album categories, which is no problem as long as we have the three main format types - albums, EPs and singles. An extended play is still not a full album or a proper single that's why such a term exists. Hiddenstranger (talk) 00:59, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Steps "Love U More" song (not single).[edit]

Hey mate, I was trying to create an infobox/section for Steps' "Love U More" song, though I forgot to create it as a "song" infobox rather than a "single" one. I wrote in the edit summary that it was still a work in progress, but you removed it... after only 4 minutes. Couldn't you have just converted it into a song infobox for me instead? Or at the very least, left the Steps section there so I could've kept adding to it? *sigh* AnimatedZebra (talk) 12:52, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there shouldn't be a separate section for the Steps version even as a song, as it's not notable at all, see WP:NSONGS and WP:COVERSONG. Thanks. Hiddenstranger (talk) 13:30, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure who to ask and I'd probably botch it! Much appreciated! Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:30, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, as we have a COI issue here, you did just right with your edits and reverts. I updated the article. Please give the user Bearcar the link to WP:COI to understand that COI editing is not allowed on Wikipedia. Please also see How to handle conflicts of interest if this user persists in COI editing. Hope that helps. Hiddenstranger (talk) 23:55, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for updating Bronz. uw-coi added. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 03:29, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just Like Heaven[edit]

Do you actually see this song on the AllMusic list? Because when I check the link, the only Cure song I see on the list is "Why Can't I Be You?" (which I'd also consider wrong, but that's a different argument). If you see it, I'm wondering if the AllMusic list is somehow different for different readers. CAVincent (talk) 16:13, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and I don't see "Why Can't I Be You?". Why is that? Seems to appear differently in different locations. Hiddenstranger (talk) 20:15, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page Redirect Repair[edit]

This is just an enquiry to see if a current page that has been redirected by you in the past could be placed back to its original URL. There's a current redirect on the from a page which was originally called Blak_Prophetz now redirecting to Sure Shot. I've just researched and found that the artist had several nick-names but his personal stage name had always been 'Blak Prophetz'. There was never a group per-say as that term was only suggested in various interviews with his friends and the assumptions by teh interviewer to be a collective or group but the actual song releases was from a single individual alone. I have seen several statements where he has made it clear that the term Sure Shot was referencing him but used like an adjective to describe him and his works in conjunction with product, sort like a slang term used in Hip Hop and not necessarily his stage name. I believe that the redirect would bring harm to his brand as his brand is Blak Prophetz and for wiki to not redirect the URL to the loosely used term Sure Shot that has often been affiliated with him. Please see his explanation of his name below on the links as it appears that the term on Wiki is causing him confusion.

I think it would be helpful for him and his brand to be in sync as Wiki is currently out of sync as Wiki has chosen one name over the other and selected and entire new URL to possibly confuse his brand. "Mark Duffus, also known as Sure Shot and Blak Prophetz, is a British rapper and producer from the West Midlands in England where he formed the group Blak Prophetz in the early 1980s." - I think it would read better as "Mark Duffus, also known as Blak Prophetz and sometimes refenced as Sure Shot, is a British rapper and producer from the West Midlands in England where he formed the group Blak Prophetz in the early 1980s." - and the URL reverted back to Blak_Prophetz.

My point is that keeping the uniform URL as 'Blak Prophetz' makes sense and not to override his entire career with a name that is a nickname or phrase.

You thoughts appreciated, thanks Avon Villa (talk) 12:29, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

His bio on these links already cause the confusion by first saying "Blak Prophetz is NOT a band...He is ONE Global Hip Hop/Jazz Record Producer and creator of all music and songs that came out under that name." Then it goes on to say "He is of Jamaican descent and formed the band called Blak Prophetz in the early 1980s." So this already contradicts what was said in the opening sentence. If the bio on his official site and social media accounts claim "Blak Prophetz" is used as his solo alias, why does it also state that the name was a band (or group)? Or is Blak Prophetz his solo name and the name of his group? Hiddenstranger (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, Blak Prophetz is his solo name and movement that contained no members as such. he has collaborated with other musicians and termed the movemnet under his name which does look like a band yet is not. It was created by him and for him alone, collaborations does not call for his name to become a band. The personin question has no social accounts called 'Sure Shot' only of Blak Prophetz. All song releases are also by the latter and no other personnel - https://open.spotify.com/artist/7jl1GADl7ZItzySJohJB3I . The only error in his name is in Wikipedia from what I can see. In Hip Hop the term Sure Shot means right, brilliance, spot on and so forth. This term has been used loossley by him on several occassions to associate him withthe term and has somewhat become the confusion but I must clarify based on teh evidence I've seen his interviews where he has explicity stated that his name is Blak Prophetz with an addition sated that he's the Sure Shot meaning the best etc. All his productions by Blak Prophetz and all else by Blk Prophetz. Hope this helps to understand that the redirect is pointing to a term and not the official name of the artist. Blak Prophetz is his solo name and the not the name of his group because the group has never and does not exist as a group, he is Blak Prophetz, thanks Avon Villa (talk) 15:28, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
