Hi Grutness. I have today made a new sub-category for Toitu Transport Hall. Is this "new wing" in fact the transport hall? regards, Eddaido (talk) 07:29, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

No - the original museum building is the central building in the cmplex - in the 1990s it took over the old bus depot to the south of it, which became the Transport Hall - it's now a more general technology hall, with transport, computing, television, and radio, plus the restored Art Deco waiting room of the old bus depot. A new wing was built to the north of the original building in the 2000s, which is the "new wing". It c ontains a large reception area with shop and cafe, and exhibits relating to pre-European settlement. Grutness...wha? 08:52, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Good idea. If it makes things any simpler to understand, :this satellite view might explain it more simply: The red-roofed part of the building (31) is the original building. The triangular part below it (35) is the transport hall (the old bus depot). The grey triangle at the top is the new wing. Grutness...wha? 09:07, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Probably pretty much what I said above - it's the entrance wing, built in 2011, and contains the museum's reception, shop, and cafe. Apparently it's officially called the Josephine Foyer, named after the Fairlie locomotive which sits at its northern end, though I've only ever heard it called the new wing or entrance wing. See, I don't know what you are talking about. Please may I have a short accurate phrase. My only interest was to upload some photos of exhibits taken a few weeks ago because I did not want them wasted and often if people have an idea of what they might see they will go take a look when they might not otherwise. Dab redirects

Hi! I noticed you moved the dab page Shiner to Shiner (disambiguation), leaving a redirect. When there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, as in this case, the redirect is supposed to be the one with "(disambiguation)" in the title, so that it can be used as a deliberate link to the dab page when needed. (Normal links to a dab page are mistakes, and need to be fixed.) The resulting situation is called a WP:MALPLACED dab page. I'm fixing this one, so no need to worry about it. Guideline and policy news

• A discussion to workshop proposals to amend the administrator inactivity policy at Wikipedia talk:Administrators has been in process since late December 2016.
• Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2016 closed with no consensus for implementing Pending changes level 2 with new criteria for use.
• Following an RfC, an activity requirement is now in place for bots and bot operators.

Technical news

• When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
• Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
• The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.

Arbitration

• The Arbitration Committee released a response to the Wikimedia Foundation's statement on paid editing and outing.

Obituaries

• JohnCD (John Cameron Deas) passed away on 30 December 2016. John began editing Wikipedia seriously during 2007 and became an administrator in November 2009.

New Barnstar.

Hello Grutness, I decided to write to you, as I saw during my work on design of Worcestershire Barnstar, that you made a contribution to the article Flag of Worcestershire. I used this symbol for creation of the Barnstar for the WP:WORCS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Worcestershire When I learned, that such project exists, I became very interested, as I’m planning to drive to the Archaeological sites in Worcestershire, make good photos around and then to start the article about Archaeological findings of Worcestershire. I think, that WP:WORCS is a good Project, and it deserves to have the own Barnstar, which also, probably, will help to make this Project more active. The actual process of prodding using Twinkle takes 10 sec. What amazes me is that it was you who created an unreferenced BLP. That's a big no-no. I admit I should have looked at the article's history, as giving you a gentle "prod" (of the non-deleting variety) would have done the trick. Schwede66 05:24, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Touché. Unfortunately, the references I was using for the article originally were ones I had written at the time (I work as an art reviewer for the Otago Daily Times). As such, I couldn't use them. Hm. It seems to me that in cases like this, the very fact that they have not revealed that information is an important point in indicating that a COI exists. Would it be acceptable to simply say that the user name suggests a conflict of interest? If so, what happens if someone asks why it seems to indicate that? Grutness...wha? 02:36, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

You can just say that it seems they have a COI, though I find in a lot of cases (this one being no exception) that it's not necessary to dig into the fact that someone may have an undeclared COI in order to proceed with article deletion. @ShakespeareFan00: I don't mind if it is deleted, since it is so out of date, but I have updated the info anyway. As to referring to image use policy, etc... this file was uploaded eleven years ago. Image use policy was slightly different back then; at that time if a PD-self or gfdl-self template was added, it was automatically taken as an indication that the image was original and created by the uploader.
