Stubstuff

Poland-geo-stub & Spain-geo-stub

Both have reached 5 pages and with 16 voivoidships and 19 autonomous communites and cites respectiviely for those countries first-order subdivision, it looks like we have two more countries to monitor for potential splits. Caerwine 00:31, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Actually the autonomous communities of Spain by and large correspond to the traditional regions. It's the older system of provinces that the autonomous communities were superimposed on that didn't have the correspondence. The provinces are all roughly the same size while the autonoumous communities vary widely in size. Caerwine 03:39, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Inverness-shire Geography Stubs

There is a problem with Category:Inverness-shire_geography_stubs. The wording at Scotland Geo Stubs says places are categorised by lieutenancy area, however Inverness-shire is not a LA. Inverness is, but it does not cover Skye. Inverness-shire is a traditional county, but would also include Harris and Uist etc. Grinner 09:44, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Medical journal stub

Hello, I left a message on the proposed stub page. I support a new medical mag stub. I am doing some clean-up on medical and biology articles. And will be making stubs, of course. Dividing by topic is good enough for me. Double-checking peer review status is too time consuming for a stub. Instead of journal or mag, how about periodical? The name doesn't matter to me, just the new stub.--FloNight 20:02, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

ag-stub

As I've already pointed out in the discussion, the use of "ag" to mean "agriculture" seems to be primarily if not exclusively a North American thing, but I can assure you it is fairly common here in South Carolina, probably more so than "agri". If there were something else that a lower case "ag" could reasonably be expected to be confused with, I could see the point, but so far all that have been presented are hypotheticals of dubious occurance. *bio-stub vs. *-bio-stub

If you take a look at the main list, you will see that my statement of "but with the exception of sports bios, we uniformly use a doubly hyphenated "-bio-" in stubs of this type" is true, at least except for some redirects, but I consider that secondary. I did double check that statement before making my claim, just in case there was an exception I was unaware of. Caerwine 02:27, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Fair enough, but now that we have the example of Finland-musician-stub being sanctified by having survived an SfD, I expect that we'll be seeing quite a few of more country-musician-stub's being proposed. Indeed, I'll probably be proposing US-musican-stub and UK-musician-stub, not to ease the burden on musician s-stub which looks like it is ameniable to be reduced down to smaller groupings, but as ways to help subdivide the very large US-bio-stub ad UK-bio-stub groupings. Thank you very much for thinking I am worthy to be an Admin. However, at this time I do not feel I am quite up to the task. As you've probably noted, I had an RfA fail to reach consensus only just over a month ago. I think it would be doing an injustice to Wikipedia for me to try again so soon. Perhaps in another few weeks. I know WP can always use more good Admins, and I feel I could be one, but maybe not at this point in time. Perhaps sometime in December I will try again. I would like to express my thanks to all the people who took part in my (failed) RfA voting. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! I was also surprised by the amount of people who stated clearly that they do care, be it by voting in for or against my candidacy. That's what Wiki community is about and I'm really pleased to see that it works.

Kakapo

I'm going to spruce up the Kakapo article so that it finally makes an appearance on the main page. I know you've made alot of NZ maps, could you make a simple one showing the location of Chalky and Codfish Islands? It may be better as two maps given they are at opposite ends of the country. I don't know where I got the idea that one of the islands was near Auckland, the DOC page says they are now only on two offshore islands: Te Kakahu o Tamatea (Chalky Island) in south-west Fiordland and Whenua Hou (Codfish Island) near Stewart Island. I'm planning to reorgaise most of the latter part of the article, there is a lot of repetition which (I think) reduces the clarity of the text.--nixie 00:55, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

In the Kakapo article someone has diligently added the Maori name like this Hauturu/Little Barrier Island, to all the instances where they are mentioned- I was wondering if thei is how its done in the cases where there are two names.--nixie 10:39, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Rod Donald

I see Alan Liefting has updated the Rod Donald article to note his death from a cerebral haemorrhage. He hasn't given any sources, and I can't find any mention in the online media. Do you have any source which might confirm this.-gadfium 00:19, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I am not sure if I am doing this right (am very new to Wikipedia ) but the news is true. The page has since been updated to note cause of death as being a heart attack. You will also find it is shown on the Stuff and New Zealand Herald webpages. 202.89.153.240 02:19, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Your signature

You need to get things nested correctly. The server administrators turned off the capability of the server tidying up after incorrectly nested stuff in order to improve performance, so that's what the problem is. Move the "<font color=green><small>''" from before the pair of left braces to after the next pipe in your signatureand I think it'll be all fixed up. Caerwine 22:54, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Actually that wasn't the problem at all, but thanks for the suggestions - that mismatching came about because I tried about 20 different things to get it working properly yesterday. What you saw was one of the "experiments". Apparently you now have to use raw signature if you use html, and font color must now always be placed in quote marks. Don't ask me why. I think my sig works now, though sadly I can no longer make the date a different colour. I'm going to have to go round repairing yesterday's signatures... IIRC, XML requires quotes for attribute values, so probably the tidying package added them and then the parser needed to see them to recognize that it was a valid attribute. That makes sense since it simplifies the parser's job and it previously could count on the tidier to add them where needed. Caerwine 00:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

gday mate, good to hear from ya! I have a watcher over my user page, and he is almost an admin person himself (i'd say by christmas).. good stuff! This is a little joke to promote the single, isn't it? Plenty of strange things happen when art meets constabulary; do you, with your intimate knowledge of all things musical in Dunedin, happen to know if there's any truth to the story? Category:Auckland_urban_districts

Hi James

I posting a quick note regarding the above category, as I believe you are an NZ admin?

I am interested in expanding the articles in the above category and to that point I have started updating links for articles such as point North Island reference in location template to North Island.

I noted that some suburbs are doubled up such as:

Point Chevalier Remuera Takapuna Te Papapa, etc.

I was wondering what the correct procedure/protocal is for looking to amalgamate these would be? I am still a newbie with Wikipedia and thought I should seek answers before I did any more. Thanks for any help you can provide. --Tom Webb 19:08, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
