Your threats against Piotrus[edit]
I see you insist on building a phony case against one of the few editors who had the guts to stand up to Ghirlandajo's harassment? I would suggest you look into Ghirnadajo's edit history (including his most recent announcement) for loads of actual "blatant" personal attacks, directed at the whole community. More newspeak and turning the tables around hoping to turn attention away from the actual problem on our hands, i.e. Ghirlandajo's incivility towards other users? Pathetic. All you forgot to add was a threat of defrocking, your dearest editor's ultimate dream of admins who stands up to his abuse. -Modest username

- I'm working on it. It's probably going to take me a few days to get through the entire article because of family demands. It took me an hour to work through the intro this morning. Comme tu l'as déjà constaté, ton article sur la bataille de Smolensk traduit en français est en bonne voie pour devenir un article de qualité sur la Wikipédia francophone aussi. :)
Une fois encore, je sollicite ton aide afin de pouvoir répondre aux critiques et suggestions émises dans le cadre de la proposition d'AdQ :
- Une personne a voté "Attendre" en réservant son vote "Pour" dans l'attente de la traduction des cartes représentant le Front. Or, Deansfa, qui a traduit l'une des cartes (celle qui nécessite une modification de "villes en conflit" en "villes forteresses"), m'a indiqué qu'il ne parvenait pas à modifier les autres. Donc : d'une part, aurais-tu une idée quant à l'outil à utiliser éventuellement pour les modifier ? Et d'autre part, quelle est la provenance de ces cartes ? Est-ce que ce sont des cartes du gouvernement américain ? Dans ce cas, est-il souhaitable, voire judicieux, de les traduire, et ne serait-il pas mieux d'ajouter dans la légende de l'image la mention "Carte du gouvernement américain" (ou autre) ? Qu'en penses-tu ?
- Un autre utilisateur, dans la section "Discussions", émet la critique suivante : "Lorsque l'on cite des bouquins (par ex Histoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale), il faut au moins donner le nom des auteurs, non ? (ou du moins donner le nom de celui qui dirige l'ouvrage, si c'est un ouvrage collectif ...)." Afin de lui répondre, peux-tu me dire si les ouvrages concernés sont des ouvrages de type encyclopédique ou autre, et si tu connais le nom de l'auteur qui a dirigé les travaux ?

I've never read those memoirs, so I'll take your word for it and regard them as reliable, although as students of history we are taught to shy away from memoirs as much as we can. rapid footnote system[edit]
I read you are a bit into programming and know about the problems of writing history articles. Actually I do have an idea that might help to improve quality, but I want to refine some points with the help of someone more knowledgeable on technical details. Therefore I ask you.
Currently, making a footnote in a wikipedia article is a painstacking procedure. on the other hand footnotes seem the best way to determine quality of articles.
My idea is to create a (seperate) formula for filling in footnotes at the current cursor position in the edited text when given the command. The automatic formula does list all position possible (or considered possible, etc.) to fill in for a footnote. Furthermore it needs an archiving function and it should have the possibility to recall easily from a selection of former footnotes for minor changes like page numbers. Considering the multiple possibilities to integrate such a tool (popup, page integrated, bot, etc.), your experience with bots could be helpful. Thank you Wandalstouring 21:51, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

No, you're definitely not the only one. These rants are actually part of the reason I've gone forward with this WikiProject Council idea; I hope that, once it gets off the ground, the combined weight of the WikiProjects—which include most of Wikipedia's content editors—can actually be used to formulate policy. Whether that will actually work, I don't know; but, when the other proposals being put forward are basically the institution of policy by bureacratic fiat, I suppose I need to try and do something. Russian task force[edit]
Since the discussion on having some form of Russian or Soviet military history task force seems to be moving forward, I thought I'd bring up a potentially sensitive point. The area is graced with a particular individual who, while highly active in article work, is rather unsociable and appears to have a long-standing dislike of the project and its activities. I'm wondering if you have any good ideas for either converting him to an ally or at least limiting the damage—both procedural and social—he could do to this new task force if it is created? Re: Autotagging[edit]
It's a good idea, but I think a slightly more general approach might be better. In other words, rather than creating a page to deal only with the question of automatic tagging, create a general page dealing with automation requests, which will list all of our ongoing and proposed bot- and AWB-driven work (of which tagging would be a major part, obviously, but which could also include things like infobox conversions and so forth). This would be a bit more suitable for a long-term setup; even once the major tagging is done, I'm sure people will keep coming up with new uses for any bots available to us. What do you think? Grafikbot tagging question[edit]

doubts by a possible provider of images[edit]
I find wikipedia to be a valuable resource and an exciting project. I would be honored if any of my photos or text can help to promote research and further understanding of armour and history. I only have two main concerns about the distribution of the content of my website. A few years back there was a company that was using product photos from other artists and, by way of insinuation, representing them as pictures of their own work. As the company was outside the US there was little recourse for the armourers whose work was misused. Of course companies that lack the integrity to honestly represent their own product will also disregard the guidelines of a copyright agreement anyway.
My second concern is that some search engines penalize sites with duplicate content. I have no problem with content that I have authored for the website being republished for educational purposes other than the duplicate content penalty. I have not been able to glean what amount of variation negates the duplicate content penalty so I would prefer that if someone were to wish to republish any of my essays in total that they link to the content on my site instead. I am pleased if one should wish to use excerpts or to modify the content and attribute as appropriate. I would assume that any thing used on wikipedia would be substantially different so that it may cause any type of penalty.
I thank you for your message. You have inspired me to put more thought into the subject. I have done a cursory search of the agreements at creative commons and have found several licenses that are close to what I feel is fair for the content of my website. If you know of one that would cover my concerns about duplicate content, or if you feel that I shouldn't be concerned about it, please let me know
- You are a bit more aware of technical problems. Do you know of some way to make him feel safer about providing images? Yes, I already wrote him a letter and showed him results of search engines etc., but I doubt it convinces a hardcore sceptic, while he is sitting on an extremely valuable archive. Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.
