Managing a conflict of interest[edit]
Hello, Gotthard175. - @Bonadea: The goal of this edit is not to promote the company TESTEX or its services commercially, but to provide in depth information about the history of the company which has existed for 175 years. In 2021 a book was written by a historian, covering the 175 year history of the company in detail, including photos. The idea is to provide the public with a compact version of this history on the company’s Wikipedia page. I would appreciate if you could explain to me how this is “unconstructive” or “disruptive”. I have strictly adhered to all WP:CCPOLs and please note that there is also no Wikipedia policy that explicitly requires me to make any suggestions on the talk page. - I think you may have missed out on Bonadea's "edit summary" from a few weeks ago when he tried to explain things to you, and his edit summary stated "not getting embroiled in this". Now I will disclaim here that I virtually never insert myself into discussions of proposals for new articles or COI situations, and I may not be particularly concerned about avoiding offending newbies or others. That said, my reaction is that *you* are the sort of editor that these procedures are directed at. If there's a suggestion to discuss a change on the talk page, this means Y-O-U!
- One point to make, you explained that you just wanted to give a digest version of some company history. But did you ask yourself: Does the Wikipedia audience want to read that? Sure, it's possible that somewhere out there is somebody who does ... and yet, that can't be the criteria... if that were the case, we may as well just toss out the "topic notability" criteria. I suggest that, rather than summarizing that history, you just include a link to the history in the "further reading" section.
- Anyway, not to put too fine a point on this, the reason to be concerned about COI editors (or, at least, one reason to be concerned about COI editors) is a lack of perspective.... to wit (paraphrasing your text above about "the goal of this edit"): "there might be somebody who would really like a summary of this sort, so I should include it". Sigh.
- I may be speaking in a tone that others try to avoid ... Hopefully I have not gone beyond the bounds of permissible harshness, though I can't say I'm overly concerned if I have. Fabrickator (talk) 09:54, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
