Eskimism[edit]

To see why this page was deleted (and I didn't delete it, merely nominated it), please go to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. Wikipedia is not for things made up in school one day, so you need to assert the notability of the thing about which you're writing. If you can't, then the admins will agree that it's non-notable and they'll delete the entry. If you seriously want to write about Eskimism, I suggest you go to Uncyclopedia, they'll be a lot more accomodating. Phileas 17:30, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello! i am the spokesperson of the religion known as Eskimism. Can I ask why did you delete the article? It was, and still is, a trial for the religion to see if it will be recognised as one of the known "ism" groups of Tasmania. Can I perhaps see if I, on behalf of the team of Eskimism, ask if we could please have 'Eskimism' unprotected and undeleted if able to? thank you
Yours Sincerely, Gogorox93

Hi. The article was deleted under our speedy deletion policy, as it did not assert the importance or significance of the subject (see the criteria for speedy deletion). You state that the article is "a trial for the religion to see if it will be recognised as one of the known "ism" groups of Tasmania". Wikipedia does not work in this way; creating articles merely to try to get something recognized is not allowed, as it defeats the purpose of the project.

Get Eskimism recognized as a significant religion first, then someone can write an article about it. For now, the page will remain protected to prevent constant re-creation of the page with the same content. Thank you – Gurch 18:42, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Yes, you do have a point. I hope you don't poke anyone with it! Get it? It's a joke. =) But upon reading the content in the original article of Eskimism, I see that it was merely as "attention-seeking" as some of the bands that have an article in Wikipedia, aswell as becoming "recognised" as this has certain similarities with these band articles I am stating of. Also, what is the chance of somebody actually typing in the letters E-S-K-I-M-I-S-M and just so finding the article by chance? Very slim indeed. So, this is not an act of begging, the Eskimism Team are lodging a formal statement as follows:
May you, or any other administrator that has the correct privileges, please undisable, unprotect or undelete the article "Eskimism" on behalf of Wikipedia Inc.?
Your doing so would be greatly appreciated and well thanked upon. Thankyou.
Yours Sincerely, Gogorox93

Hi again. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to restore the Eskimism article as it currently exists. Although I could try, it would simply be deleted again by another administrator, as it does not satify our criteria for inclusion, as mentioned in my previous message.

I accept your point regarding non-notable bands. We have a lot of articles on bands, and more are constantly being created; we delete hundreds of them per day because they do not meet our criteria, usually for notability reasons. If you see an article on a band that you don't think should be in the encyclopedia, remember Wikipedia is a wiki, and you can tag it for deletion yourself. I recommend you follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion. An article so tagged will be deleted by an administrator after five days if there are no objections; if there are, a discussion about whether to keep the article will be started to which anyone may contribute.

I'm afraid you're going to have to accept at this point that Wikipedia is never going to have such an article... "Luke and Georgia are highly intelligent and when anyone sees them they bow down before them." and "Make Eskimism Number ONE !!!!" says it all. Wikipedia is not for things made up in school one day. Please do not try to re-create the article, as it will be deleted again; persistent re-creation may even result in your account being blocked from editing. As an alternative, why not create a page on one of the many free general-purpose wiki sites available, such as Wikia? Wikia allows you to create a wiki for any purpose; you can create (virtually) anything you want there, without needing to conform to the guidelines necessarily imposed by an encyclopedia. There are many other alternatives, as an internet search will tell you – Gurch 15:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eskimism recreated - request for further deletion[edit]

Hi. I note that above article was previously deleted. I have retagged the re-creation of the article to be deleted again. Thanks. Pedro |  Chat  08:58, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Gunnslogo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gunnslogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Hi Georgia!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you!
