Biology Letters

Hi GeeJo,

I was wondering if you could help me with the page Biology Letters? I'm trying to create more links to it (there are plenty out there already), but for some reason, the links need to be written as 'Biology letters' - with a small 'l'. I guess this is because it's in the title of the page with a small l, and it shouldn't be!

Is there a way of changing the page to capitilized 'L'? Otherwise the text looks very odd in the articles linking to this.

mold/mildew

Me and a friend are having a discussion about the differences between mold and mildew, and we're wondering, what is the main difference is between the two and where are mold and mildew most likely to thrive?

Since you're an IP address, I'll respond here as well as on your talk page. In common parlance, mold and mildew are synonyms, referring to a type of fungus that has a habit of growing on organic matter. Horticulturally, mold are fungi, while mildew, or water mould, are protists which happen to resemble fungi. Hi. I noticed a high rate of edits coming from the IP user 141.84.69.20. Seemed almost Bot-like. One of the edits it made was to replace the {{notenglish}} tag you placed on the above article to a {{db-nonsense}} tag. This seems wrong to me, so I thought I would let you know. Blimey - I was coming to congratulate you on updating DYK for the first time, but to do so only a couple of hours after getting the admin bit is exemplary service!

A couple of comments, if I may: it is customary to use the older nominations first - did you overlook the two from 28 October? They are about to run out of time. And I would have been tempted to use the colourful and rather delicious-looking Image:HP-pears.jpg rather than the black-and-white hospital image.

DYK standards

I'm surprised by your decision to promote Michał Dymitr Krajewski. As was demonstrated in the lengthy discussion on T:TDYK and the article about science fiction, there was no science fiction in the 18th century. Neither Gulliver's Travels not Micromégas nor Mikołaja Doświadczyńskiego przypadki qualify as such (although the latter article claimed until yesterday that this 1776 book "is sometimes considered one of the first examples of science fiction in the world"[1]). As the first holder of the DYK medal and the DYK regular for over a year, I may testify that the reliability of nominations has hit the all-time low. --Ghirla ^-трёп- 09:21, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

While I don't mind the hook being rephrased, I'd like to point out that we have an acedemic citation supporting the claim that this book was the 'first Polish sci-fi novel'. This was pointed out in the discussion, and the ref is in the article. Ghirla has no proof the the contrary, thus his claim that the fact is doubious is nothing but his personal opinion versus academic citation. Ireland issues

you edit a current event in Ireland that has momentum that you have little awareness of, the article doesn't contravene any copyright, Why?

Notre-Dame de Boulogne

Hi and thanks for the comments. I've been trying to track down the dates you suggest, but it's tricky to be 100% sure. The basilica's own literature says merely "At the time of the French Revolution worship in Notre-Dame was forbidden...", though the later statement of "commemorative plates of various Bishops in Boulogne between 1570 and 1790" suggests 1790. 1790 was certainly when the commune was declared in Boulogne, as well as the Civil Constitution of the Clergy. So it would look like 1790, but then in another source I find Jean-Rene Asseline the "last bishop of Boulogne" between 1790 and his death in 1802, clearly elected by the government... Automatic highlighting of words if a page already exists with that name

Actually i have used the base software of wikipedia and have set up my own wiki. I am setting up a wiki wherein all words with pages already present need to be highlighted.

Now i understand that this feature is not present in wikipedia.

Please tell me if you know any other alternative which serves my purpose

Vitamin O studies

Hi Geejo,

Wikipedia seems to have a double-standard. I gave citation to the actual double-blind study and article about the study on Vitamin O while you [Wikepedia] allow real quacks to slander a product based on nothing but thin air, eg.:

Studies run on vitamin O showed it to be composed largely of salt water as well as a small quantity of germanium, which would provide no benefits not attributable to the placebo effect.

What studies? Vitamin O, a registered trademark of R-Garden, doesn't have any germanium in it. See ingredients: http://www.rgarden.com/products/vitamino.html

The link in Wikipedia's accepted Vitamin O entry for Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act is wrong. The whole intent of the act is for people to have more choice in what supplements they want to take as they have proven to be beneficial for people's health. See DSHEA: http://www.fda.gov/opacom/laws/dshea.html

This expensive and as you can see professional study done by a reputable researcher, Dr. John Heinerman, is obviously historic. The FTC ruling was attacking the advertising of this product and does not show that this product is ineffective while this so-called authoritive entry on Vitamin O in Wikipedia is just trying to slander a product based on no facts at all.

Vitamin O has continued to be sold with rave reviews from many customers over many years. R-Garden, who owns the trademark to Vitamin O, is after all a small company with a proud reputation for quality products for over 15 years - it's not a fly by night operation.

You are allowing only one side to the story based on false, misleading and outdated news.

Camping Cosmos

hello!

why is it impossible to link from "Camping Cosmos" at the wiki of the director of the movie "Jan Bucquoy"? The same for the actors: "Noël Godin", "Lolo Ferrari", "Jan Decleir". If I put for search "Camping Cosmos" with capital letter for Cosmos, it is accepted and I find the the article about "Camping Cosmos" but this does not go, when I want to find the article, from the articles of the actors and the director!

Could you make a redirect or something that works so that there is a link from the articles of the actors to "Camping Cosmos" .

Another way could be simply changing from "Camping Cosmos" to "Camping cosmos" but I prefer Cosmos with capital letter.

Or could I change the title of my article and put the capital C for Cosmos? How should I do this?

Replaceable fair use

Unfree images (such as crown copyright) which are "replaceable" are not usable under our Fair Use guidelines. See WP:FU critera #1 and counter example #8 ("An image of a living person that merely shows what they look like ... would almost certainly not be acceptable as fair use"). This is irrelevant of whether a replacement currently exists or not. The reasoning behind this is that by using high quality unfree images, we discourage users from trying to source free ones. I wasn't referring to FUC#8, but the counter example for living people. Whether or not an image is being used decorative is usually down to context, so it should just be removed from the page, and if that was the only place it was being used, tagged as an orphan ({{subst:orfud}}). ed g2s • talk 16:33, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Editing Tittell Brune

I appreciate your interest in my article. After spending an entire day researching this very neglected lady, and hoping to bring in my Oz friends who I think also feel somewhat left out in the theatre department since we Yanks and Brits (I'm both) seem to dominate the entries, I hope you will not come in and decimate it. I have experienced Wikipedia users who seem to think that anything different from pure Encyclopedic defininitions, will strip articles down to factual statements, and load up with arcane Wikomanic formulae, usually abbreviated for fellow arcanites. I think the PTB (powers that be with oversight) are trying to make the site superior in its treatment of the arts. And I think they want articles to do with theatre and theatre bios to have some flesh on them, so they are at least "readable". At the moment, they are mostly a recitation of awards and credits and no context (boring). Which is another way of my saying, please don't touch it further, although I appreciate your turning a lower case to an upper case in the title.
