Also your contact information scanner sucks.

If anyone can bypass it as easy as I did why is it even there in the first place?

Lookie here this is my email domain--> minerzep and then you just add the at symbol for at, and I'm at gmail. The dot com gmail. There ya go. Loophole found. You probably won't be able to patch that up, will you? For email adresses it's pretty simple--just ban every reference to gmail, yahoo, firemail or whatever without a request to a mod. It'll add complexity to the process but that's how a patch works. To patch phone numbers you would have to use an algorithm that will reference each string of seven numbers (No matter the separation) to the universal phone book whatever that is. You'd have to make that process more efficient because I don't know how it works. And there you have it the hole I found has been patched. Mostly. You just have to apply it. Not necessarily vandalism

You reverted the blanking of Palermo window on the world, claiming it was either a test or vandalism. Not necessarily. When a new user creates a page and that page is nominated for deletion, as was the case here, the new user will often blank the page. This is commonly seen as a good faith attempt to delete that page, recognizing that they have done something wrong. In this case, it is common to simply place the {{db-author}} on the page to allow it to be speedily deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:35, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

@WikiDan61: Yes, I see your point, but I approached the problem differently by reinstating the PROD. Two ways of reaching the same objective - which in this case entails the deletion of said page, and subsequent notification for the user not to do it again. As you know, the low level warning is mild enough for a new editor, and he has been welcomed as well. I didn't see any need for further involvement at this stage. Draft: Andri Steinþór Björnsson

Dear FoCuSandLeArN,

Thank you for your review of the draft submission on Andri Steinþór Björnsson. The page has now been edited to include multiple additional references. Dr. Björnsson is a notable figure in psychology, both within Iceland and internationally. Having written books and hosted a series of radio shows on science, it seems clear that he should be considered notable. Having reviewed Wikipedia pages on other Icelandic scholars I find that Dr. Björnsson's achievements are certainly not less notable than those of his peers.

Please let me know which particular aspects of the page need clarification in your opinion, it has already been edited to further emphasize Dr. Björnsson's notability and multiple references added.

Best,

Mam Tor

I think that "Mam Tor" = "mother hill" is essentially English (though it may be Old English) - "Mam" is still used a (Northern?) diminutive for "mother" and "tor" is a standard geographical term for a hill or rocky outcrop, so I'm not sure there's much to clarify. This page claims that it's "from the celtic language spoken in these parts during the Iron Age" but that sounds speculative; since the words are still more-or-less current in modern English I'm not sure such a claim is necessary. Dave.Dunford (talk) 16:43, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

The fact that "mam tor" is said to mean mother hill is obviously implying that it's another language or an obscure use of English. If it is used in the modern style of English as you say, that sentence needs to be amended to something like mam tor (English "mam" - mother, "tor" - hill). We needn't clarify English - as a corollary, we should clarify obscure expressions. This is an encyclopaedia, not an English country brochure. Kerry Committee Report

Hi FoCuSandLeArN

I should have included my reasons for the Kerry Committee edit -- I had been going over them with someone else until we mutually agreed on each but failed to include them in a comment for others. First, I don't know the Wikipedia convention, but in most citation formatting styles, omitted sentences (as opposed to mere words/phrases) mandate 4-period ellipses in quotations, not 3; and the cited material does omit several sentences. Second, having consulted the original source, the quotation is rather misleading as it stands without an "amongst other connections"-oriented clause because the cited material includes a list of several points, whereas the quoted sentence suggests that the TOTALITY of "links" covered by the Report are various sorts of "payments," rather than that the payments are just merely one such link of many; the fact that the Report speaks of "Payments," in plurality, reinforces this. Even with the ellipsis, the quotation could easily be misconstrued in this way, e.g. by assuming the omitted material is merely incidental prose rather than substantive content (i.e. more links).

I will revert the edit and mention all this as a public comment. Let me know what you think of it then. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by NAS Ohio (talkcontribs) 21:29, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Edit of First Fleet page

Thank you for your message.

My edit was not a mistake. I have implemented the concern of a number of editors and others regarding the implication that the introduction of smallpox to the Sydney region was a deliberate policy of the British Admiralty in sending the First Fleet to New South Wales. Despite the truth that smallpox was introduced, there is no evidence of a deliberate action.

What is more likely is that certain elements of Australian society have decided to introduce strident activism in their claims and this whole topic has slipped under the radar. There is NO academic evidence that it was a deliberate policy and this was discussed at some length on Wikipedia's talk page in 2013.

Due to the obvious discrepancy in the information, it is prudent to delete the entire entry related to deliberate smallpox introduction and suggest that it be moved to a separate page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Outback1964 (talkcontribs) 11:30, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Your edits were promotional and unreferenced. For information to be added to an article, it needs to be both relevant (of encyclopaedic value) and notable, per coverage in independent and reliable sources. It also, very importantly, needs to be written in a neutral tone and language. If none of this can be attained, it's best if you didn't edit the article, most of all because you have a conflict of interest. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 13:24, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
