Lawburrows

Consider yourself wikified. :) Basically, that means linking everything in sight :) and wiki format stuff. For example, to make separate paragraphs, insert a line between each (tab does no good), and to create bullet points, use the asterisk at the beginning of a line. Also, when you want to link directly to something, but want it to look somewhat different, you can use piped links. Two examples from the article: [[Evidence (law)|Evidence]] yields Evidence and [[James I of Scotland|James I]] yields James I. Also, I hope you don't mind, but I thought it was such a great article that I submitted it to DYK. Feel free to rewrite the text or (if it makes you uncomfortable) remove my nomination here. Oh, also, when you're logged in, you can sign your posts by putting four tildes: ~~~~. That automatically inserts your username and a datestamp. P.S. I'm an American, so if I copy edited anything American-style and it's driving you crazy b/c you go by Commonwealth or British or Scottish style or what have you, please feel free to change it back. The wiki standard is to spell/punctuate things on local articles in their local style. Ergo, articles about British TV are about programmes and articles about U.S. TV are about programs, etc. Thanks!

On the Stern review

Hello Fentonrobb,

Some while ago (ca. 3 months), I posted on the talk page of the Stern review. Not wanting to do so, I nevertheless had apparently made an offensive and "threatening" impression on you. At the time, I was on the other hand so taken aback by your reply, that I did not feel like answering. I have today added a good number of "positive" quotes to the page, and rereading the talk, thought it might be sensible to clarify our disagreement of then. Realizing I am quite late in doing so, I would nevertheless wish to say I am sorry that you took my posting as so uncivil, as to move you to saying you would no longer edit the page until I had taken back my "threat" of "destroying" the page. It is true that I did not feel happy with the work that had been done by the previous editors, and was assuming malice in the formation of the article, so as to it being biased towards a global warming critical view. In retrospect, I must admit that this was unjust, and I should not have been so negative in my post. I hope you can accept my apology.

I also wanted to draw to your attention that, as I had mentioned above, I have done some changes today in the way I proposed back then, namely adding a large number of positive responses. If you still view this as destructive, I would be thankful if you could tell me why you see this so. Many kind regards, Sean Heron 17:50, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi. You may have been the first person to refer to "Hume's early essay Of Superstition and Religion". I can't find it anywhere and I wonder if it's some publication that I missed. At the moment I think it is a ghost publication that doesn't exist. (see Hume talk pages) Myrvin (talk) 18:46, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

David Stove

"Fenton Robb" is an unusual name. I think the class of people who are called "Fenton Robb and who have an interest in David Hume" will be a class with only one member. Given this I can deduce (with out needing to invoke the principle of the identity of indiscernibles) that this is the same person with whom I enjoyed a haggis dinner at the UK systems society conference in Paisley 1993. At that time I told you about a paper where the author contended that there is no problem of induction and Hume never said there was. I promised to send you the reference but forgot to do so. Here it is:

Question about the old edit

Hi, Fentonrobb. I know you are not active in Wikipedia anymore and this edit happened 11 years ago, but do you remember by any change which is the source of that edit? My guess was that it could be from this book but it is published after your edit. As this information and more you added, has ended in the Coal gasification article which needs better sourcing, your help is needed. Thank you for any assistance.
