Welcome![edit]

Hello, FairportHighwater, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Dave Hill (comedian) did not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may have been removed. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations verified in reliable, reputable print or online sources or in other reliable media. Always provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to The Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Again, welcome!  Magnolia677 (talk) 23:13, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am Dave Hill. You keep deleting all my career info. I use this page for work and I would like my career info to stay. Can you please help me cite properly rather than deleting my page? You appear to be an expert so I'd be grateful for your help. FairportHighwater (talk) 23:25, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please take a moment to read WP:COI. It will instruct you how to suggest changes via the article talk page. Thank you for your understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:34, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, FairportHighwater, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Dave Hill (comedian), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! :Jay8g [VTE] 23:35, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, FairportHighwater. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Dave Hill (comedian), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Also see WP:NOT the encyclopedia is NEVER to be used to promote, self-promote, advertise or advocate for anything. It is not your personal webhost, and you should not be editing an article about you directly. You need to follow our policies and guidelines for COI editors. Netherzone (talk) 01:50, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. But I didn't make any additions to my page, I merely restored the past work of others since you and others saw fit to delete their work and render the information on my page outdated and innacurate in the process. You also completely deleted all information on my music career, which is a large part of what I'm known for. I really don't understand this. You've rendered my Wikipedia page largely useless as there is now little relevant information on my career with only mentions of minor and obscure details of my career rather than any of the work I'm actually known for. FairportHighwater (talk) 20:52, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello FairportHighwater, Thank you for your reply, but you are incorrect. As a person with a COI, it is strongly discouraged per WP guidelines that you do not edit the article. Restoring content that was removed by another editor is directly editing the article.
Please do not accuse me of "deleting your work" rendering information outdated and innacurate in the process. I did no such thing. Nor did I completely deleted all information on (your) music career. I did not not do that. Nor did I render (your) Wikipedia page largely useless. All of that can easily be seen in the article history. The only edits to the article I have made thus far are to add the maintenance notes at the top of the page.
Please read WP:OWN. You do not own this article, it is not "your" article at all, and any editor and/or admin here has the right to edit the article. Here is what WP policy says about ownership of articles: No one, no matter what, has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular article (or any part of it). Even a subject of an article, be that a person or organization, does not own the article, nor has any right to dictate what the article may or may not say.
Since this article is about you, you need to:
• avoid editing about yourself or your activities
• propose changes on the article talk page by using the {{edit COI}} template) and another editor will decide whether or not to accept the edit
• disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI); you need to disclose this on your user page (which you have not yet created - just click on the link above where it says User page)
'• avoid linking to organizations or businesses with which you have a financial connection/income
Here is the guideline on autobiography WP:AUTOBIO. Also please read: WP:NOTABOUTYOU and Wikipedia:ABOUTME. WP is not a personal website nor webhost nor social media site, nor platform to advertise or self-promote. It is an encyclopedia. Also edit warring is taken seriously here, which you were doing on January 11. It is against our policies and is considered disruptive. More info here: WP:EDITWAR.
I realize I am giving you a lot of links to read up on; the purpose of this gesture is instructive, and is not meant to overwhelm you with acronyms. It's to familiarize you with our policies and guidelines for both content and conduct on the encyclopedia. Netherzone (talk) 21:38, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you for clarifying. Have a great day. FairportHighwater (talk) 22:08, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, FairportHighwater, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Additionally, editing while logged out to avoid your COI is not permitted. Netherzone (talk) 16:28, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are mistaken. If anyone is doing anything with my page, it is probably the people who made my page in the first place. I am an internationally known artist, so this should not be surprising. I give up on Wikipedia and will never visit it again. Please leave me alone. 173.63.109.200 (talk) 16:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing certain pages (Dave Hill (comedian)) for undeclared COI editing.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Drmies (talk) 18:41, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't attempted to edit anything in a week, nor shall I ever again. Nor shall I ever donate to Wikipedia again, which I have done regularly in the past. You have rendered my page incomplete, outdated, inaccurate, and ultimately useless for anyone trying to find information about me on this site. Congrats?
