Epcot Timeline

I'm afraid I have to disagree. It contains way too much detail, and the vast majority of it should be in the articles for the respective pavilions. That's the reason I made sure every single listing was wiki-linked. The average reader doesn't care when Version A of IllumiNations ended and when Version B began; if they did, they could read the IllumiNations article, which is where said information belongs. I agree that it did get small, but frankly there hasn't been that many changes to the park as a whole. A grand total of seven pavilions have been added, two have been eliminated and a third has been "decommissioned," so to speak. Yes, individual attractions within the pavilions have changed off and on since opening day 25 years ago; again, that belongs inside the pavilion articles.

If we take this tach, where does it end? What if someone comes up with dates when specific CommuniCore/InnoVentions exhibits opened or closed, or when pavilion sponsorship changed? In a typical amusement park article, a timeline would probably include when individual attractions would be added or removed. Epcot, however, isn't a typical amusement park. It's more akin to a museum, with rotating and evolving exhibits. Similarly, the article for the Museum of Modern Art, for example, doesn't list every single work in the museum, or when themed exhibits rotate in or out. It does list noteworthy parts of its collection.

I'm all for compromise, and I would enjoy hearing your thoughts and opinions on this. There should be a criteria that keeps the timeline from getting quite so short, but one that keeps it from drowning in its own information. This needs to be an encyclopedic article, not a fanboy page, in my opinion.

I know we both have the same thing in mind, making the article as good as it can be, so I appreciate that you didn't suggest my edits were not in good faith. I hope to hear from you, and thanks. --McDoobAU93 22:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I saw your changes and think we're on our way to a good compromise. It does read a lot better now, but still has some culling that could be made, I think. Looking at what's left, here's what I think should come out:

• Spaceship Earth's narration changes (belong in the parent article)
• The saga of the Mickey wand. It should be listed as being added in 1999, but every date about its demolition really isn't needed. That said, the 1999 listing for the Mickey wand should say that it was completely removed in August 2007. The old infobox picture showing the wand would be a great addition to this subheading.
• Horizons being open in September 1999. Disney maintains its closing date is January '99. I'm not saying it wasn't open on that day (I don't know either way), but a "media day" event generally isn't considered noteworthy, IMO.
• Mission:Space's opening date is August 15, 2003, give or take. Look at my revision where I culled the timeline the first time, as the revert took it back to October 2003. August is the date that Disney is using for it (I can get a source, if you need it).
• O Canada listing is basically a narrator change
• Sponsorship changes

The 25th Anniversary listing is, in retrospect, appropriate and just needs some grammar and punctuation corrections. Again, thanks for your work. I'm planning on visiting Epcot tonight to at least see the special IllumiNations run. --McDoobAU93 17:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

• make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
• Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
