July 2018[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Wang Talu shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 13:48, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As I told you previously and as others have said - you must discuss this on the talk page. Not my talk page, the talk page of the article in question and then only when consensus has been reached should it be changed. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 15:18, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Doedoeneoneo. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Darren Wang, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. PamD 07:34, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Doedoeneoneo. (@Chrissymad: for info.) I see that all or nearly all of your edits are about Darren Wang / Wang Talu. Do you have a connection to him? For example, do you work for him or his PR company, is he a friend or relation, are you him yourself, or do you have any other connection other than being a fan? Please answer this question. Thanks. PamD 07:40, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(@Chrissymad: for info.) While I start off by "Assuming Good Faith", your continued failure to answer this question will lead me to believe that you have a close connection to Darren Wang, and possibly that you are a paid editor. I will therefore soon take this matter to WP:ANI for further consideration, unless you give a satisfactory answer here. PamD 13:59, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
48 hours seems long enough to wait for a reply (given that you have been editing since I asked this question), so I will now take this to WP:ANI. PamD
But while I was typing my post for ANI, I see that @Courcelles: has taken action. PamD 14:12, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Signing talk page comments[edit]

Please sign all talk page comments using four tildes ~~~~ or the "signature" button, so that we get the date and time as well as your name. I have "dated" two of your comments at Talk:Darren Wang. Thanks. PamD 07:47, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"We"?[edit]

When you say We are very curious about your status. in this edit, who are the "we"? Are you editing on behalf of an organisation? Please explain, here and now. Thank you. PamD 14:05, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

I've blocked your account for now for several reasons. First, you do not communicate with other editors on this page, which is a requirement to respond and explain your actions when they are questioned in good faith. Second, I am not at all sure this account represents one, and exactly one person. Maybe you talk in the plural often, but this feels like more of a role account with multiple people behind the keyboard, which is not allowed by Wikipedia policy. Third, you seem to have a serious WP:COI problem, and are making biased edits in the area you have a COI, again, this is not allowed, all edits on Wikipedia are required to by neutral. If you can convince me, or any other admin, that these three issues are not actually issues, and that you will comply with policy going forward, you can be unblocked. Some clarification for this banned user account[edit]

@Courcelles, PamD, and Chrissymad:

Hello there. I am here in the hope that I can clear out doubts and issues. Please allow me introduce my self. I am from Wikimedia Taiwan. I contribute mostly in Chinese Wikipedia and MetaWiki. I hope my explanation may help clear things out.Last month, User:Doedoeneoneo come to the local WikiWomen monthly meet up at Taipei and express she is a newbie and was blocked by the English Wikipedia community for eternal banned. I have reviewed your unanswered requests on the talk page, and asked the key issues that you have raised with her in the emails in Chinese. It seems that she is more comfortable with me using her (and also mine) native language to familiarize the concept of the English Wikipedia policy and guidelines. Here are some original replies while she wrote to me and my translation in English:

  • Regarding COI - She is a fan of this actor, not an employer or marketer.
    • Her reply: After I watched Our_Times in 2015, I became a similar-to-grandma-years-old fan of the actor. I am not a staff, nor his family member. Wang Talu has a fan club, the president of that club is currently maintaining Talu's instagram, weibo, and Chinese Wikipedia. But as for English Wikipedia or IMDb, the club president thinks she cannot handle that new site alone. But she is willing to be trained.(我是2015年看完<我的少女時代>,成為粉絲的, 一個大媽粉絲!
  • Regarding the wording WE - She uses "we" to show solidarity among fans.
    • Her reply: In all of the talk pages I use "We" to represents all the fans so all of the participants as fans so they can feel being included in the discussion. (在討論頁裡,我常用We,是想代表所有的粉絲們。粉絲們可以在的討論頁裡,看到發生的點點滴滴。)
  • Regarding the notability of using Wang Talu, instead of Darren Wang - She give me several evidence (see below) in the English world Darren Wang is less notable or used then Wang Talu. She also shares with me her effort of engaging with Imdb for the naming matter.
    • In the beginning of August, Doedoeneoneo went online to check IMdb. She asked IMdb directly. After two weeks, his English name is corrected. During this period, they asked the Doedoeneoneo if she can provide information for their reference. Here we go. (8月初,我來到 IMDb,因為不知道如何改名字,於是請教他們。2 星期後,他的英文名字更正了 。在這期間,他們要我提供資料,給他們參考。)
    • In 2015, the movie Our Times premiered. The actor's English name was Darren Wang. So some of the English speaking audience call him so. Since 2016, His English name has been changed into Wang Talu. All the credits after 2016 show Wang Talu. A series of trials and movies as evidence are below: (2015年,電影<我的少女時代>上映,他的英文名字出現在螢幕上是 Darren Wang。所以有些外國觀眾,稱呼他為 Darren Wang。在2016年後,他將英文名字改為 Wang Talu 了,所以2016年以後的作品,他的英文名字出現在螢幕上是 Wang Talu 了。下面是他2016年以後的作品,我在 YouTube 有收集到的一些預告片和正片:)
      1. The official instagram of Talu Wang (王大陸的官方 IG)
      2. In 2016, the movie "Suddenly Seventeen" premiered (2016年,電影 <28歲未成年 Suddenly Seventeen>"上映)
      3. In 2017, the movie "Legend of Naga Pearl" premiered(2017年,電影 <鮫珠傳 Legend of the Naga Pearl> 上映)
      4. In 2018, the movie "A Better Tomorrow 2018" premiered(2018年,電影 <英雄本色 2018 A Better Tomorrow 2018> 上映)
        • Trailer(預告片) => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up9RnWDvYTw
        • His English name Wang Talu is at 1:25, however, the English text is tiny(他的英文名字 Wang Talu 有出現在片中 1:25 的地方 (英文字有些小))
      5. In 2018, the tv series "The Wolf" is going to be premiered (2018年,電視劇 <狼殿下 The Wolf> 即將上映)

From my observation, I think her edits on English Wikipedia is in good faith. The major issue of the failed communication is because of the English reading and writing ability is still basic, so she failed to respond to the conceptual community guidelines and policies. I would ask you to review the above clarification, and consider to unblock her user account. Thank you for your time to review this. --Liang (WMTW) (talk) 16:24, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Shangkuanlc and Courcelles: Thank you for your detailed explanation. It explains some points but leaves me feeling that this editor does not have the competence and confidence in the English language to be able to edit happily in English Wikipedia, where it is important to be able and willing to communicate clearly with other editors. But I am not an administrator, so could not unblock her even if I felt it to be appropriate to do so. PamD 05:47, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

information Administrator noteWe generally don’t do third party unblock requests. If the user is not able to coherently express for themselves why they should be unblocked then there is really no reason to even consider unblocking them. I’m willing to believe that they are one person, and that they are a fan as opposed to a paid PR person or whatever, but the inability or unwillingness to communicate is still enough to justify a block. You have to be willing and able to communicate to work in a collaborative project, that’s not really open to negotiation. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:31, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation[edit]

@Shangkuanlc: I am highly appreciated that you spending so much time on this. Thank you so much Shangkuan. -Doedoeneoneo (talk) 12:34, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

@Beeblebrox: Dear Beelebrox, thank you very much for your reply. I could understand. Please let me know if you have any question for me. I will reply them one by one at here. Thank you very much again! -Doedoeneoneo (talk) 12:34, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think what is needed here is for you to address the reasons for your block and explain why it is no longer necessary. WP:GAB has details on how to go about this. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:03, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Beeblebrox: sorry for the late reply. Thank you very much for the information. I have read WP:GAB already. I will make an unblock request. Thank you very much again. - Doedoeneoneo (talk) 13:42, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock Request[edit]

→ Unblock request moved down to preserve chronology. AGK ■ 17:19, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unblock request on hold. I am willing to entertain your unblock request. If I accept the request, should you again violate our consensus and discussion policy then you will be blocked indefinitely.

Ping @Courcelles: can you green-light an unblock on this basis? I am satisfied that, on balance, we are fine to give another shot. The use of we looks cleared up and paid editing indicators seem absent on a closer look. AGK ■ 18:47, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead. I'll add that the requirement to engage in talk page discussion when challenged is serious, and hope you realize this is critical to staying unblocked. Courcelles (talk) 18:49, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Dear admin, the following are the blocked reasons on 29 August 2018 and my request for unblock: (1) You do not communicate with other editors on this page, which is a requirement to respond and explain your actions when they are questioned in good faith. : I will communication with other editors well in the future. (2) I am not at all sure this account represents one, and exactly one person. Maybe you talk in the plural often, but this feels like more of a role account with multiple people behind the keyboard, which is not allowed by Wikipedia policy. : I am the only editor for this account. I registered Wikipedia for the actor Wang Talu. I am his fan. After editing each page, I usually share it with fans whom I am familiar with. Sometimes they will give me feedback. Then I will modify the page to make it better. "We" means fans. (3) You seem to have a serious WP:COI problem, and are making biased edits in the area you have a COI, again, this is not allowed, all edits on Wikipedia are required to by neutral. : I am a fan for the actor Wang Talu. I registered Wikipedia for him in 2017. So far, all my contributions at Wikipedia are mainly for him. In the future, when I have more free time, I would like to contribute more on English Wikipedia pages for Chinese movies. I will follow the guidelines. Thank's admin for your time and help!

Accept reason:

Per discussion above.

If you again fail to discuss and engage with other editors, you may be re-blocked indefinitely.

Appreciation[edit]

@Courcelles and AGK:

Dear admins, thank you so much for the unblock! Got it. I will open my mind to discuss all the issues with others in talk page. During the blocked period, I learned a lot from all of you. I will follow all the policies at Wikipedia. I will follow all the guidelines when editing Wikipedia pages. Thank you very much admins. -Doedoeneoneo (talk) 10:56, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
