File source and copyright licensing problem with File:01 Cover.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:01 Cover.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 05:08, 20 January 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:08, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues[edit]

Seems we've got a bit of a problem. When I checked through your edits on the album you asked me about, I discovered that significant portions were copied from other sources. We can't allow that, as it's a violation of copyright. You may not have been aware of that, but well, now you are.

I need to know if you did the same thing anywhere else. Not so I can get after you for it or anything, but if we have copyright violations elsewhere, they'll need to be cleaned up by removing the material and deleting the affected edits. (I've already done so on the album page.) Seraphimblade Talk to me 17:48, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Seraphimblade - No I don't think I have done that anywhere else. Andrew W.K. and his related topics/pages is really the only thing I have bothered to contribute to wikipedia. Anything else has only been minor edits here and there. This was my first page I created in its entirety.

Thanks for clarifying that. Please remember that you'll need to write in your own words, or if you use a direct quote, make sure it's enclosed in either quotation marks or blockquote tags and attributed to its source. They should be short and used sparingly; most of the time we want to paraphrase what a source is saying rather than quote it. (Most source material isn't itself written in an appropriate tone for an encyclopedia article anyway, which was another problem the article had.) Also beware close paraphrasing—changing a few words here or there isn't enough, it needs to be entirely written in your own words. Seraphimblade Talk to me 18:12, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't make links which only point back to the same article via a redirect. These are not helpful to the reader. Thanks. PamD 22:53, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
