Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Robert Byrne ( UK ) meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robert Byrne ( UK ). Don't forget to add four tildes (˜˜˜˜) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. JamesMLane t c 15:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Byrne ( UK )[edit]

Your article Robert Byrne ( UK ) was speedy deleted under our speedy criterion A7. To appear in our encyclopedia, the minimum we ask is that articles assert the notability of their subject; if they don't then our criteria advise that we should delete the article.

All is not lost, however! If you believe that the subject of your article has notability, and you are able to both assert it and prove it in the article, then please consider creating it here: User:David Martin/Robert Byrne (impressionist). Then, when you've finished, contact Wikipedia:New contributors' help page and experienced editors will happily review it, clean it up (our layout standards are both high and hard to follow!) and, if it fits with Wikipedia criteria, move it back to the article namespace.

In the meantime, if I can help, please contact me and I'll do my best. Thanks! ➨ ЯΞDVΞRS 21:18, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:D8233Wiki.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:D8233Wiki.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it, but use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 08:43, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, the image have not been deleted yet, so if you hurry you can just edit the image page to "fix" the license. May also want to go into more detail on why you are in a posission to say the image is free licensed since the image seems to be copyrighted by Ritchie Davidson (friend of yours?). --Sherool (talk) 09:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, looks better, one more "nitpick" though, because it's an important point. When you say "used with permission", what kind of permission exactly? Did he spesificaly say that the image was released under the GFDL license (knowing that it allow others to modity, distribute and potentialy use it for commercial purposes), or just "you may use the image" or something to that effect. If it was the later there may still be a problem. Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission on how go avour verifying that we have gotten the "right" kind of permission. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 14:02, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David. Thanks for your recent edits to List of UK railfan jargon. Could I ask you to do a couple of things for me? First, take a look at the discussion on the article's talk page. There is an ongoing discussion about how to deal with the unreferenced material on the page. It would be useful context. Second, if you could use edit summaries to explain why you are deleting those particular entries, it would be helpful to the other editors working on the article. I'm not disagreeing with your deletions, but we had agreed to move deleted items to the talk page in all but the most obvious cases: where a term is clearly made up or not railfan-specific. Some of the entries you deleted probably fall into that category, while others might not. Anyway, keep up the good work, and welcome to Wikipedia. All the best, Gwernol 14:27, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
