Congratulations

A consensus has been reached by your peers that you should be an admin. I have made it so. Please review Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and keep up the great work. Sincerely, Kingturtle (talk) 21:31, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your software upgrade. Tim Vickers (talk) 21:34, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Congratulations on becoming a new admin! To learn a little about how to work your new tools, check out the New admin school. To display on your user page how long you have been an admin, just post the userbox string: {{User:EVula/Userboxes/admin since|year=2007|month=11|day=28}} Also, please consider adding your username to Classification of admins. Best! -- Jreferee t/c 22:05, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

To start off with

You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ananeuzumab. DGG (talk) 03:37, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks like I can safely close that one, and delete all of the articles. Perfect practice... I just have to go over the closing procedure again. Thanks for the heads up.--DO11.10 (talk) 04:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks like you've done a good job--hope you don't mind that I helped out. I figured the load was pretty heavy (and I was just arriving to close it myself when you did). — Scientizzle 05:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you both. I considered leaving a note to the closing admin recommending asking for batch-deletion help over at WP:AN, but thought it would be overkill :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 12:21, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Your first deletion

Good luck with your first deletion! Personally, I'd consider registering a bot to clean up that mess. But here's a cookie for your hard work! Someguy1221 (talk) 04:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Allergy

Congrats on your adminship, DO11.10! I note that you are an immunologist in the making. Could I ask for your help in deep cleaning allergy? And perhaps I could ask for your opinion on primary immunodeficiency, which I more-or-less rewrote a little while ago. JFW | T@lk 22:11, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! Wow nice job on primary immunodeficiency, it is such a huge topic. It looks much better than when I last happened across it. I have made a couple of minor changes, but I have a couple of suggestions/questions for now.
  • Could you clarify what is meant by "isolated SCID".
  • Phagocytes and complement are generally though of an innate immune systems, do phagocyte disorders and complement deficiencies fall under the broader heading of innate deficiencies?
  • Why the discrepancy in prevalence? 1:500 in the intro, 1:1200, 1:600? I am sure this has to do with population sample but maybe you could elaborate on here.
Allergy. I don't think I have ever seen that many cn, attribution tags in one article before. I bet I can dig some of these up tonight.--DO11.10 (talk) 00:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
H'mmmm, I see what you mean....especially the whole epidemiology section! I'll try and stop by regularly to help improve it. PS....noticed you became an admin since we last chatted - congrats! Guess you are going to be busier than ever now ;o) Later, ~ Ciar ~ (Talk to me!) 06:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Whoa! I wish I'd asked you sooner! Brilliant work (and Ciar too).

With regards to primary immunodeficiency:

  • I will look into the "isolated SCID" thing.
  • The 2005 consensus does not lump complement & phagocyte disorders under innate deficiencies, probably for grouping but also because complement & phagocytes interact closely with the humoral system.
  • The discrepant figures are based on different publications. I'll see if we can iron this out a bit. But epidemiological data is woefully inaccurate here anyway.

Cheers! JFW | T@lk 10:18, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Nope...just go ahead! I'm just slowly working my way down the article, but I'll leave that nasty looking Epidemiology section all for you to tackle ;o)!! ~ Ciar ~ (Talk to me!) 01:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Copy, right?

Well, the license is certainly inappropriate. I would personally contact the uploader (he's edited recently) and ask about the source, as the image may qualify for {{PD-old}} or one of its subtags. I'm not an "image admin", as they say, so that's just my take. Deletion may not be necessary here. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:14, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't think so; CSD I3 is there for "non-commercial use" images not meeting NFCC, but I don't think there is black-letter policy or guideline on inaccurately tagged images. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 18:44, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Copy/paste

Hey there. First of all - thanks for your help on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. We'll clear that backlog yet. One question: In this edit, you found that the synopsis section of the article was not a copy/paste. I looked at it myself since it wasn't stricken from the WP:CP page. That whole section was added in bulk when the page was created and it's not been edited much since. I think it might be reasonable to assume it is copy/pasted from a copyrighted source. What was your thinking to the contrary? Just curious... Spike Wilbury talk 15:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good, I was just wondering. Re: your second question, do you mean you looked at every entry in Wikipedia:Copyright_problems/2007_October_26/Articles? If so, you can just remove the entire day from the list on WP:CP. I don't understand why you couldn't strike them out though.. maybe I'm not getting what you're saying. --Spike Wilbury talk 19:12, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Ahhh, I see what you're talking about. That is weird. Well if the whole day is done you can just remove it from the page. Just edit the main WP:CP page and delete the transclusion for that day. --Spike Wilbury talk 19:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Van Meegeren

Hi - any reason why you changed "art restorer" to "portraitist"? He was both, so why not just add the latter? RobHutten (talk) 23:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

This and that

Greetings. I came across your unusual username when I saw that you've been helping out with the WP:CP backlog, as have I. Thanks for mopping! Your userpage looks remarkably good -- I'm jealous. (I know, it ultimately comes from Phaedriel, along with almost everything else of beauty around these parts, but you implemented it quite well. Good show.)

By the way, I got my degree in computer science -- which of course isn't really a science at all -- but I'm still able to refer to myself as a "scientist" with the slightest modicum of defensibility, so I so at every opportunity. But since you're a true scientist, I think you should preface every single thing you say with "As a scientist. . ." (e.g. "As a scientist, I support" on RFAs.) It lends an air of validity to even your most random musings. I trust you'll give this idea the serious contemplation it deserves. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:55, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

As a scientist, I had (of course) already considered this approach. I often find myself composing elaborately worded deletion summaries (e.g. "As a scientist, it is highly improbable that you could fool me with such an obvious cut and paste job. Directly from the product manual? Really, let's try to be more creative next time").
On further reflection though some might consider this biting, and alas I chose a simple: "Copy vio from..." All the while hoping, against hope, that someone might someday understand that what I was really saying—in the words of the great scientist/crime fighters of our century—was: "Back-off man, I'm a scientist!".--DO11.10 (talk) 18:33, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, Phaedriel definitely made Wikipedia a more beautiful place. I only wish I had gotten a chance to thank her, but unfortunately she seems to have left the project. :(--DO11.10 (talk) 18:33, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Sooth, you say. So I officially swiped your page design. No honor among thieves, eh? :-) – Quadell (talk) (random) 22:12, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I made it easy! Check out my latest masterpiece, {{Q-box}}. – Quadell (talk) (random) 20:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Scalpels versus chainsaws.

First, congratulations on your recent adminship. Given that you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed confronted by various admin backlogs, I don't mean to give you too much grief over this edit, but in the future, you might consider using a scalpel instead of a chainsaw, seeing as how the "entire Game Notes section" was not, in fact a copyvio, but rather the individual text summaries in each subsection were. The box scores (being non-copyrightable facts) and sub-section structure were not copyvios and can remain. That is certainly part of the reason Disavian went to the trouble to tag each summary. Thanks, AUTiger » talk 07:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

You're right, sorry about that. I do usually try to keep the chainsawing to a minimum, got a bit carried away here. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'll keep it in mind.  :)--DO11.10 (talk) 18:01, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

This merger is being discussed at Talk:Rubella. I think your opinion would be valuable, as it has some similarities with the issues you had on polio (what to put where). I can't make up my mind. Colin°Talk 14:56, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Please feel free to archive it whenever you like.

Hi, I see you've tagged this article for excessive non-free images. I raised the same concern at WP:Copyright problems/2007 December 26/Images but apparently there's a backlog there. I also proposed (on the article's Talk page) cutting back to a maximum of 3 non-free images, one for each of the three different casts/plots during the series' 20-year run. Would you agree? JGHowes talk - 20:52, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

That seems reasonable to me. I'll leave it to you to decide which images should be used. Feel free to remove the tag when you are done, and dropping a note on the talk page would probably be nice. Thanks for bringing this to my/our attention. --DO11.10 (talk) 00:06, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Done, also weeded out excessive Fair Use images on other Lassie-related sub-articles, which were loaded with Fair Use images by User:TimmyTruck far in excess of NFCC 3(a). JGHowes talk - 04:31, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

re: Copyright problem

Another editor has listed Image:Worship-leader.jpg as having a copyright problem. There has been a discussion here. For simplicity I've pasted the discussion from that page below:

Image:Worship-leader.jpg- Although this is the author's own work it does appear to include copyrighted material. Namely the lyrics to a song which has restrictions on reproduction. For example for a church to use those lyrics on a projector system as shown they must have a valid CCLI licence. Although done in good faith, I am unsure as to whether the appearance of the lyrics within this photograph constitute copyright infringement or not. I put a note on the image's talk page some time ago.Crimperman (talk) 13:40, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Okay, this is a free work that incorporates non-free lyrics. However, the use is minimal, and certainly counts as fair use under U.S. law. I think it's best to tag the image with both {{GFDL} (for the photo itself) and {{fair use in}} (for the lyrics), and then not use it in user space. – Quadell (talk) (random) 00:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Would it be possible for you to add the fair-use template to the image page? You will also need to remove it from your user page. Please let me know if you have any questions. Cheers--DO11.10 (talk) 03:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi!

The above article is on nomination for FA. It's kind of in trouble because of issues related to language, conciseness, etc., which have been discussed here. JFW suggested that I could approach you as he was quite impressed with your contributions to the article on allergy. It'd be really nice if you could go through the article, and make or suggest the desired changes.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for taking mushrooms off the vitamin D article

We timid editors prefer to maintain a low profile, and appreciate your willingness to take the axe for us if the person picks a fight with the editor who deleted his work. Thanks, it really bothered me having mushrooms on that list of Vitamin D sources. How many people read the version before I clarified what the study actually showed. How many will say "oh but I read it on wikipedia" that mushrooms are excellent source of vitamin D. Sentriclecub (talk) 16:14, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Poliomyelitis project

Hi DO11.10, you're getting this message because you have expressed interest in developing poliomyelitis and related topics into a Wikipedia Featured Topic.

The project has gained enough support and so the project page has been set up here. Comments regarding the project should be left there, article comments themselves should still be left on the individual talk pages of the articles included in the project.

Thanks for your interest in the project! —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs) 19:10, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

... and here we are :) Hopefully they can be of some use. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 21:51, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Found it, with caveats—main one being that those states were certified free of T. infestans transmission alone, and while that's nothing to sneeze at, other vectors are far more common in the Northeast Region, which accounts for 65% of Chagas transmission in Brazil. Long story short, there's still quite a way to go. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 22:54, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Western State College Gunnison, CO.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Western State College Gunnison, CO.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

History of poliomyelitis / Vitamin C

I'd like to ask for reason of deletion of the historical aspects of Vitamin C vs Sabin. I found this part of history highly interesting, because that was the moment of shift from one scientifically considered treatment (vitamin C) to another (vaccine). Even more interesting knowing, that Sabin, in fact, failed himselve. With not much hyperbole we can say, that this moment has been of absolutely critical importance and changed the face of medicine like nothing else. From my POW, and from historical records, the vitamin C could've been much safer and worthier way of treatment, although commercially far less interesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.197.110.119 (talk) 14:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Denver East High School.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Denver East High School.jpg. Sorry, only just checked back for a response. I think, going in order at the page, we need to get Post-polio syndrome, Poliomyelitis eradication and History of poliomyelitis and up to at least GA before we can consider even start nominating the topic. I'm tempted to start on the former first as it's pretty well developed. Also, do you suppose we need an entire article on the history, or should we condense the information into the poliomyelitis article? I've cross-posted everything but the first sentence and this sentence at the topic page so it might be best if you reply there to keep our thoughts together. Dr DO11.10, I wonder if you would be able to help me out with this list. It was started and brought to FL by Durova and subsequently expanded by me several years ago. It has just been nominated for FL removal largely because several of the links have gone stale, some aren't of the best quality and the lead could be improved. I am working my way through the refs, starting at the bottom, auditing them. I'm checking the links still work and that the source is reliable (e.g. IMDB is not but some self-published sites might be if they are written by the person themselves). If not, I'm replacing the ref or removing the entry. I've audited what I've done on the talk page (though I'm not asking you to be so anal if you don't want to). I would appreciate some help as it is a long list. If you could start at the top? It shouldn't take long to do each entry as most of them are fine. I'm very busy IRL so any help would be useful. Even if you can't face tackling the list, the lead could do with being updated and expanded a bit. Cheers, Colin°Talk 20:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks very much. We've got a fortnight so don't worry about a day! Oh, and congrats on the PhD! Colin°Talk 22:43, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again, for your help. Only managed an hour tonight. Lots of stale links. Sigh. Colin°Talk 22:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that is pretty much what I am finding too. Haven't need to remove anyone in a while, so I guess that is a good sign. Thanks for the congrats. --DO11.10 (talk) 22:48, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm going on holiday tomorrow morning till the 12th. I might manage a wee bit tonight if I finish packing. Don't feel under any obligations. The Rambling Man knows I'm away so I think he'll keep it open indefinitely while it is being worked on/holiday. Colin°Talk 17:03, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I was out too... Made some good progress tonight though (have done all the way through Music). I hope you had a nice holiday! Cheers--DO11.10 (talk) 01:43, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help with this. I owe you one. I just need to do a little work on the lead and this should be saved. Colin°Talk 19:43, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
No problem. :) These lists are kind of fun, get to learn about people I have never heard of. Let me know if you need anymore help. --DO11.10 (talk) 22:52, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Just a quick note to thank you for your extensive efforts in assuring that this list retained its featured status. It underwent a substantial overhaul, and your efforts are much appreciated throughout the process. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:42, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

ketogenic diet

D0101,

I've put ketogenic diet up for peer review in order to push it towards FAC. I'd love it if you could take a look. Cheers, Colin°Talk 17:05, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
