Hi!,

I just realised that you review the articles for GA status, regarding music topics, and am wondering what you think of the article concerned. I hope to bring it up to GA status and go from there :-).

If there are any problems, could you if possible please list them?.

Cheers!

Thank you for your help in controlling vandalism at this page. Some people don't understand the concept of NPOV!

Addition to the Jervis Bay site removed?

Hi,

I added the Jervis Bay Tourism Association site link to the Jervis Bay page. You have mistakingly had it removed as vandalism. This is a not-for-profit organisation which works to promote awareness about Jervis Bay. Please next time review the site content before deleting the link, as you will see it is a community site, available as a tourist information service.

I will re-apply the tourism link now, as it is a not-for-profit community service link, dedicated to providing information to tourists as a free community service.

Please do not be so hasty to delete the link again :)

If you would like further information, please email comittee member David Reynolds at dave@machelp.com.au.

Thank you.

re: Admin coaching

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. Looking over your contributions, it seems you have a good deal of edits to the article namespace, which looks great. I would say, however, that you might want to spend more time on Project (Wikipedia:) namespace pages, contributing to policy decisions, and fer pete sake, upload more of those great images! People want to see that you're willing to "wikignome", and can handle the mundane tasks as well as the fun ones. But seriously, you're doing fine now. Keep it up, and I may just have to nom you myself ;). -Mysekurity 23:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Person attacks

What you did was a personal attack. Unsupported, and completely ignorant of my work on non-accredited articles. I suggest you leave your opinion, and back it up with fact. Trying to attack the nominator is not a way to get an article kept. Arbustoo 04:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I honestly did not mean to question your character, but at the time, I felt that you were unjustly nominating bible schools for deletion (you have nominated quite a few, you must admit). You are right, though; that was not the appropriate venue to raise such questions. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 05:01, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
You must "admit" that you have not supported your "keep vote" with a source, and instead choose to attack the nominator's motivation. I nominate many unaccredited schools. If you see unnotable, non-accredited schools that lack sources let me know. I can care less about their religion and claims. Clearly, you do care. Arbustoo 05:04, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I have provided a source, and I've also provided reasoning, which is far more important. I don't know why you're bringing this all up on my talk page, though. As for religion being an issue, I am an atheist with beliefs akin to Richard Dawkins; religion does not play a factor at all in my opposition to the article's deletion. I know that I should not have attacked you, but I would appreciate it if you would not fight fire with fire.
I don't care about your beliefs. They shouldn't factor in. That is not a source with any valuable information. Every single criteria says "Not Available." You cannot have an article without sources. Its pretty simple. Arbustoo 05:25, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
If you don't care about my beliefs, then don't say "clearly, you do care." -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 05:30, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
The words "I" and "you" have separate meanings and were used in different contexts. That is, the point you concentrated on was not a factor for me. Arbustoo 05:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Let me spell it out for you. You wrote, "I can care less about their religion and claims. Clearly, you do care." You rather explicitly stated that I cared about their religion, implying that I have a bias towards favoring Christian institutions. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 20:43, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
No quite. The point was you are concentrating on something that I can careless about: religion when nominating an unaccredited school. Get sources and show notability. Its that simple, and I'll withdraw the nomination. If you come up with sources that prove notability we can move past your single undescriptive source. Until then wanting to ignore rules and failing to offer proof isn't going to get the article kept. Arbustoo 01:55, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

"highly selective" schools

I don't think you were right to revert User:Anthropologique's removal of the phrase "highly selective" from the lead sentences of several college articles, nor to caution him/her about it. "Highly selective" is far from a neutral description (what college among the top several hundred would not call itself "highly selective" in its promotional materials?), and the lead sentence isn't the place to document specific names a college has been called by specific ranking agencies or books. (See Wikipedia:Avoid academic boosterism.) Though User:Anthropologique has certainly done some inappropriate POV-pushing in the past, I think these edits were to the good. It is far better for people like this user to use their energy removing the inappropriately promotional advertising language that pollutes so many of our university and college articles than adding more of it to keep their favorite school up to the same excesses as its peer institutions. -- Rbellin|Talk 17:30, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

No, I don't think you implied that the edits were in bad faith. It's just that I agree with deleting this phrase, at least from a lead sentence where it can't be documented and sourced in proper detail. I know it doesn't seem like a close call for these particular institutions, but loose and unsourced promotional language has a way of spreading (by the hand of competitive editors) until it's everywhere in these articles. I'm probably more sensitized to this problem than most Wikipedians, but it does seem to me like removing this kind of claim from articles' lead sections is a good first step toward more neutral, better sourced articles, even if the account making those edits is a suspect one. -- Rbellin|Talk 18:36, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

RE Taylor Garron

Hi, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Reviewing the evidence, you're right that SaguarosRule seems to be a single-purpose account (I'm sorry I didn't check that before closing the AfD). However, s/he did provide a clear rationale for the !vote, which was also endorsed by Holdenhurst, an established user, hence why I judged that there was no consensus for deletion. Unfortunately, closing contentious AfDs when there's been a very low level of participation (4 users in this case) is always difficult. I would recommend you to take the article to WP:DRV; I will not !vote on the DRV, as I have no opinion on the article myself. Walton Need some help? 16:02, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

I think the DRV would probably come out with a Delete result. But you're right that renomination might be better. If you mention the SaguarosRule situation in the renomination statement, you can probably renominate straight away. Walton (alternate account) 09:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

RE Highly Selective

I take it out whenever I see it. It's just psuedo-NPOV for our school is better than others. It has no place in an encyclopedia article and certainly the vast majority of faculties and college administrators frown upon perceptions of their institutions as being exclusive, selective, etc. If a school is good at something or has a particularly notable program, then it might warrant mention in the opening, but certainly being exclusive is not a definiting characteristiic of any university. I will delete other "selective" mentions in the opening as I see them. Madcoverboy 03:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:23, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

FYI

Just so you know, GeorgiaTex is a published opponent of the FairTax. I won't state his identity as he has chosen to remain anonymous on Wikipedia. I'm not sure if such is a conflict of interest like on the other side someone from AFFT editing the article. I'm not going to object but I just thought you should know. Morphh (talk) 23:48, 03 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes - I was speaking of the published part in relation to WP:COI. It is fine to be a supporter or opponent and both editors are needed for the article. I don't think it will be an issue but I thought it should be brought up so you could be aware and watch for such a conflict if any arises. While I disagree with some of his positions on the FairTax, he's a very nice and intelligent guy. Morphh (talk) 13:25, 04 June 2007 (UTC)

If you propose any opera categories for deletion, could you possibly tell the Opera Project? We don't monitor Cfd and won't normally notice if there is a proposal. Thanks. -- Kleinzach 06:54, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note but I see you are also removing categories. Could you put them back? We are about to start a bot run and we would really like to keep everything exactly as it is until it's finished. Thanks. -- Kleinzach 09:34, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Warning

You gave me a warning yesterday that seems to be a little harsh, first off it was an accidental computer cliche that caused my blackberry to completely delete that section of the article but I feel as though a "last warning" is way too harsh for a blanking whether intentional or not, just looking at my history you can see that i have made many edits to michael mullens article that were benificial, I'm not mad but I just wanted you to know for future reference that the warning you used should only really be used after repeated vandalism by a user which was not the case in my situation.--Joebengo 04:32, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

I requested to be adopted so that I could be an admin someday. NHRHS2010 Talk 22:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Adoption Offer

I'd be pleased to accept your offer of adoption. Thanks for taking the time.

I've only been editing seriously for a while but I've run into a few interesting situations already, real headscratchers for a new guy. But first here's what I've doing (or trying to do)

  • I joined the Manitoba Wikiproject and have been tagging and taking a crack at assessments.
  • I started work on an article on Chad Allan who was the founder of the bands that went on to become The Guess Who, left music to go back to school and then went on to join Brave Belt which became Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I see you're a serious muscian so that's a good fit.
    • Thanks for you comments and encouragement. General notes about formatting were especially helpful (bolding subject, linking dates (I was puzzled why editors linked dates the way they did. Now I get it.)) I did some format work and added some more text. JohnJardine 13:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Little bit chagrined about your remark about linking a topic more then once in an article. I have to admit to being an offender. To my credit I was starting to wonder about it. I guess I have some reversion work to do. JohnJardine 13:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I, more or less inadvertantly, volunteered to review a GA nominee Death of Lana Stempien. I may be a bit over my head on that (see below.)
    • Your comment noted and has helped. I'll proceed as you suggested soon as I have the time and work up the nerve (Note to Self: Be Bold). JohnJardine 13:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I've put quite a few pages on my watchlist (93 at last count). Initially I picked up pages by doing the random article thing and making a few edits and leaving them on my watchlist. Then I started tagging vandalism and picking up user pages. Keeping an eye on all these pages sharpens my skills and is helping me to understand wikiculture

Here's some of the head scratchers:

  • I requested a delete of Native/Non-Native Racism in Canada which as I see it is at least in violation of WP:OR amd maybe NPOV. What do you think?
    • Thanks for your support. I agree that the article could be interesting if it could be adequately referenced but would be extremely difficult to do and extremely controversial irregardless (NPOV nightmare). JohnJardine 13:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
  • The article I'm reviewing Death of Lana Stempien can probably be worked into a GA but I'm troubled by whether or not it should be included in WP at all. I talk about this at length on the talk page.
  • I'm a little uncertain about whether I'm doing the above noted assessment right.

Anyway, enough about me. How do you recommend I proceed? Regards JohnJardine 23:59, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Your Offer of Adoption

I am honored to accept your offer of adoption. I am looking to become a better editor and do more for the project at the same time. I am finding myself a little overwhelmed with the vastness of Wikipedia, and need some direction and help finding my editing niche.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated

Hello there, I am a fellow member of Wikiproject jazz. I was wondering, if you had a moment to spare, if you would be willing to give your opinion on a matter at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 June 15 concerning a category I created. The category is [[Category:Jazz musicians of New Orleans]], and it has been proposed that the article be merged with Musicians of New Orleans and American jazz musicians. This is precisely why I created the category, because it seemed to me the birthplace of jazz music and continous modern symbol of jazz certainly deserves a category unto itself. Regardless of your opinion, I would greatly appreciate your input there so as to have a discussion over the matter. Thanks. (Mind meal 03:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC))

Thank you for weighing in. I realize it may be frowned upon, though I was not trying to influence the sort of opinion users would add to the discussion. The purpose was merely to facilitate a broad discussion among wikiproject jazz members. I contacted nobody outside of the project for their opinion, and the idea for the category began on the project's discussion page. In my opinion, this is a good way for members to become active in issues directly related to their fields. I am not aware of how active every user is on the project page. I simply assumed that anyone who put their name on the list was interested in topics related to the genre. At any rate, thank you for adding to the discussion. (Mind meal 05:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC))

Adoption offer

Hey, thx for the offer. As previously noted by another user, you appear to have lots of adoptees and I don't want to overburden you, but am interested in whatever help I can get. I think I understand what I'm doing, but know that I'll get into something soon that I don't know how to handle. I do what I can as I am able, time permitting.

I just joined the wikiproject Albums since I saw work to be done on Fleetwood Mac and was about to copy some stuff from the Fleetwood Mac page to the Rumours page and didn't want to make a mess of things. I want to become a gooder editor sum day

I need to clean up my User page and userboxes, but that's not high on my priority list right now.

I want to say that I don't need adoption, but am willing to listen to whatever suggestions you may have. Pls advise. Thx. SteinAlive 15:53, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

It's been 9 days since I last asked Goldenglove for adoption and have not had a reply. I don't mean to be hasty, but was hoping perhaps we could proceed with the signing of the adoption papers. Whaddya think? SteinAlive | | 08:48, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not that familiar with his music, but I was talking about prelude no.3, it's one of the songs that zack kim played and I wanna find the notes to it so I can learn it. It's actually J.S.Bach -(WTC1) Prelude No.3 in C#major. I have been looking for the sheet music(piano) so i can learn it on the piano and guitar. (President stickface 02:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC))

Researching Wikipedia Online Survey

We are conducting research into the role of social norms in online communication. This research is funded by the European Union and is being undertaken by a coalition of European Universities (see http://emil.istc.cnr.it/?q=node/8). The research is designed to help us understand how social norms interact with the technology that supports online collaboration. We have selected 35 Wikipedia articles flagged as controversial for study. We are analysing the interactions on the discussion pages and are also seeking additional input from contributors to those discussions.

As a participant in the recent discussion about a controversial topic - Conervatism in the USA, I would be very grateful if you could follow the link to a simple questionnaire. This should take only 2 minutes to complete.

Hi Cielomobile, Please don't withdraw from WP:WPO. I think it's useful to have a diversity of opinions Some of us can be "robust" in our argumentation but if everyone who ever disagreed with the majority left, we'll never get diversity. I'm someone who has disagreed with you on some issues (e.g. on Threepenny Opera being listed as an opera). I'm not entirely happy with how you (but not just you) went about things in the recent dispute re infoboxes but I'd rather have a representative project that includes you than one without anyone (apart from Andy Mabbett) who has ever argued with Kleinzach. (And I generally agree with him.) --Peter cohen 15:06, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Songwriters

Hello Alex, I am categorizing the musicians from my country Cyprus and since you are a member of wikiproject Music, I would like to ask you something. New categories for jazz musicians

Hello fellow member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Jazz! I am delivering this message to all members of the project to inform them of a major addition to the evolution of this project. Please see Category:Jazz musicians by genre to familiarize yourselves with the new categories for jazz musicians. Most of the genre categories contain sub-genres in their drop-down menus, so be sure to open them up! I am sending this to everyone to speed up the population of these categories. The sub-genres have been carefully researched to ensure they belong under their corresponding "mother genre"! And please, when in doubt do not categorize something via an assumption. Well, that about covers it! Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.(Mind meal 05:42, 25 June 2007 (UTC))

New question from SteinAlive - TW marking deletions as minor

1: Thx for the adopt. 2. Question. See this edit hist, made using TW 'rollback AGF'. My pref are set to Minor by def. I see that I removed some content but this edit is marked a minor. My understanding is that basically ANY removal, unless (possibly?) obvious vandalsim, identified as vandalism is NOT a minor edit. How do I fix this? Do I have to change my prefs? Since I usually wikifying with wikilinks, I have elected to def my edits to minor. This must be listed somewhere, but there is just so much to learn. Must go eat. Hope to be back on soon. I look fwd to a reply. Thx, again SteinAlive | | 23:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
