Hello Chris Troutman. I am Tom Bateman, an independent art history (& general) research assistant to Michael Tollemache and, although not employed by him, I therefore should be classed as a connected party. Nonetheless, I believe the BLP text submitted is indeed neutral and verifiable with No Original Research included. If I am incorrect, which I fully recognize as likely, I will address those issues but only after dealing with your comment as to the notability of the subject.

The reason for submitting the draft is because in WP SEARCH for Michael Tollemache one is directed to Edward Tollemache his nephew where there is an invitation to create the page "Michael Tollemache" and because Michael Tollemache is mentioned in two WP Bios - Edward Tollemache and Frederick Fermor-Hesketh, 2nd Baron Hesketh.

I submit he is notable on the following grounds: 1. he purchased the most expensive book in the world and is named in WP The Birds of America see under 'Recent Sales', which sale is also mentioned in Frederick Fermor-Hesketh, 2nd Baron Hesketh; 2. he has been written and talked about in the media including the BBC [1] as cited in the draft submission and has arranged for important old master paintings to be acquired by many public collections both in the UK and elsewhere in the world - see [2] or [3] 3. he has contributed over several decades to the political debates involving the European Fine Art Trade and the British Art Market at government level, and acts as an occasional British government advisor on the export of works of art and acceptance in lieu of capital taxes - all as cited in the draft submission; 4. he is invited to talk to Societies on subjects relating to art history worldwide. For example, he spoke only last week to the Anglo-Indonesian Society in London on the 19th century Javanese artist Raden Saleh, having co-organized the 'Raden Saleh Colloquium' in London in 2008 and 2009 see [4] notice of which will shortly appear on the website [5]. Personal comment (NOT a ground for notebility, but relevant nonetheless), the chairman of the Anglo-Indonesian Society informed us that,when he accessed WP SEARCH Michael Tollemache for information for his introduction last week, WP redirected him to Edward Tollemache where Michael Tollemache is cited (correctly) as having stood as proxy for the Prince of Wales; that in itself is not an issue, but it gave said Chairman a rather odd slant to his art-historian guest speaker! @MichaelTollemache9329: Sorry for the delay. When I saw your wall of text to me I decided to move on to other things and reply when I felt composed. Your exposition has left me in a terse mood so here's my terse reply.
First, the point you make at the end is really your motivation. Your boss went to a speaking engagement and the host lazily looked at Wikipedia and found an entry about someone else. This is not our concern and you are not the only person suffering this sort of problem.
Second, I am not the only person to decline your submission, so convincing any one editor is not the best manner to solve the problem.
Third, my decline was based on Wikipedia notability guidelines. Your boss is notable for one event, which doesn't pass muster. Furthermore, even having truthful accounts from other websites about speaking engagements does not make him notable, either. Those facts are verifiable but not notable. Perhaps if your boss was mentioned in journalistic sources like The Daily Telegraph or The Guardian we might assume more notability.
Finally, you have a conflict of interest. Your editing of an article like this is discouraged and has to be supervised, if not prohibited.
I am always flattered that people think enough of Wikipedia to feel that they, their client, or their idol needs/deserves an article. A lot of editors have been working on improving the reliability of this wiki so that it has the weight people like you attach to it. That reliability comes from maintaining standards and Michael Tollemache does not meet those standards. Chris Troutman (talk) 03:20, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

@Omniamedia: No, I can't help. There are lots of YouTubers out there but very few meet notability criteria. As you may have noticed, I had a hand in removing SoFloAntonio (Antonio Lievano) from Wikipedia for this very reason. While I understand that your company, Omnia Media, wants to help advertise "talent" (if you can call them that), this is not allowed. Wiki-PR and WikiExperts have already been banned from using Wikipedia to advertise. Unless you give this up, your company will be banned from Wikipedia, too. Battle of the Somme

I looked at the edit history for Battle of the Somme over that Macmillan reference, and I think your edit to move the material out of the lead and into the main body of the article was a good first step (it may still be undue weight there). I was kind of expecting to find a section on the talk page discussing this, but it seems the only discussion so far has been in edit summaries, at WT:MILHIST, and on user talk pages (this one and the one for the editor you warned). Kind of ironic, seeing as the advice given to that editor (who did clearly need warning) was to, um, start a talk page section about the edit. I think the last time I came across something like that, I did leave a warning, but I also created a talk page section and directed the editor to it for discussion. On a wider note, this article is one that should (IMO) be one that MILHIST editors and others attempt to return to featured status over the next two years, difficult though that might be. @Carcharoth: Yes, you're probably right about the talk page issue. Sometimes I've started talk pages if I had to repeatedly revert. Often I just hit up the user to notify them and then allow them to bring the issue to the talk page if they really think they have merit. In this case, I was responding to the MILHIST call for help, so I simply wanted to stop the edit warring.
Yes, the current WWI backlog drive should ideally catch this article, too. I already have a work list of vital articles that lack sources so this article isn't on that list. I will look at it, though, and see what can't be done to improve it.

Hi Chris. Thanks for leaving me a message. I'm new to this, as you know, and I apologize if any of my comments were off-putting. That wasn't the intent at all. Just from somebody new to this side of the site, I was surprised at the reason for deletion. I understand that Wikipedia has guidelines on notability, and I have reviewed them. In addition to the guidelines, I wanted to add my own personal feelings towards the deletion discussion, not to downplay the importance of the guidelines, but to add to the discussion. I absolutely do not have any interest in 'owning' the page. I chose her as a subject because I know about people and organizations from the non-profit field, and wanted my contributions to link to something I know about. Again, I'm extremely sorry if it came across as off-putting. I don't take this personally, but I had an opinion on the reasoning behind the nomination. I want to make a substantive contribution to Wikipedia, and if this woman as a subject isn't, I'm confused as to what is. Maybe I'll stick with cleaning up articles for a while after this instead of writing them!

War in Afghanistan

@Dentiovula: Sure. The NATO presence in Afghanistan is in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, part of the War on Terror. The death of bin Laden is also part of that military effort, same as the drone strikes in Pakistan, and the numerous other raids. How could it be described as different from the war in Afghanistan? I am. You want my answer to each of your questions? "Should be add an link to his dead to this article as well?" What article? Probably not. And how about the war in Iraq should there be a link? No. The consensus seems to be to split the war in Afghanistan from the war in Iraq. My position is that the events in Pakistan are related to what's happening in Afghanistan. I don't know what the larger consensus thinks about this. Is the Iraq war actually part of the "war on terror"? Yes. I clearly recall President Bush explaining that point in the past. Education Program technical update, February 2014

We've started working on "editor campaigns", a system that we expect will eventually be able to replace our current Education Program extension (and be useful for many other purposes as well). The early work with that project will focus on a system for signup up new editors for editing campaigns (such as courses, but also edit-a-thons, Wiki Loves Monuments, etc.). Because of that, progress will be slow on the current course page system. However, we have several improvements that should be available within the next few weeks.

Anyone can edit the main text of course pages

As part of the effort to make course pages behave more like regular wiki pages, we've enabled editing of course pages by anyone. Users who currently have the right to edit courses will have access to all the fields (so that they can change the start/end dates, and change the enrollment token). Users who currently cannot edit courses will be able to edit only the "page text" portion. This change should take effect on 2014-02-27.

Simplified course editing interface

We've considerably simplified the interface for editing course pages, removing the options to rename courses. Changing the title of a course would also move the course page, creating confusion and leading to a number of bugs. Several other parts of the course editing interface were not very useful, so we've removed them to make it easier on newcomers. This change should take effect on 2014-02-27.

Additional Notifications

Two students participating in the Facebook Open Academy mentorship program are currently working on additional Notifications for course pages. For the first of these, users will be notified whenever someone else adds them to a course.

WikiCup 2014 February newsletter

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
  2. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
  3. United States WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).

After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

@Lerysian: I took a look at the Armenian-language article. You did well there, although I'm concerned that a lot of the images you uploaded are copyrighted; I'll leave that to the admins on hy.wikipedia. Part of the problem in the English-language article is that you're citing the Armenian-language article, which violates WP:CIRCULAR. Bring the sources like Aravot, Bravo, etc. to the article at AfC.
It's hard for me to tell if the subject passes WP:BAND. Please clarify if the subject meets those criteria. Had you considered getting help from WikiProject Armenia? Chris, I appreciate your prompt replies every time i have a question. I am sorry for being so limited when dealing with wikipedia. As i understood if we had the armenian page for Vakhtang Harutyunyan we could then use it as a reference for the English wikipedia. But now i see that it looks like this article will not pass unless we have publications in English. @Lerysian: Non-English sources are allowed. The guideline asks that you stick to English-language sources if available, and that you provide a translation otherwise. As I told you before, bring over the sources from Armenian (Aravot, Bravo, etc.) and use those instead of citing Armenian Wikipedia citing those sources. @Lerysian: I'm sorry, I must have been unclear. You're not going to bring those sources to the article, I meant you're going to cite those sources instead of citing Armenian Wikipedia.
Take a look at Murder of Agnès Marin. Most of that article comes from French-language Wikipedia. The primary author rewrote the article into English but is citing the French-language sources, not the French article. We have guidance on how to translate content across, which you've already done. Just cite Aravot and Bravo as you had on the Armenian-language article. Please note that the article about the murder also has notes that explain French terminology, which may or may not be needed.
Again, there's still the issue of notability. I encourage you to contact WikiProject Armenia for their help gathering information on Vakhtang Harutyunyan. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:53, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear Chris, the notability guidelines include TV shows and/or films. he had many interviews, talk shows which aired on National TV channels, as well as a film about him. I listed only 3 of them with the note explaining why they are on youtube and not on TV channel websites. I am also trying to publish him in Glendale. I will try to contact wikiproject Armenia even though i am not sure if i can get any help from them. Do you think the TV shows I listed in the article would be of any help? @Lerysian: I think you've misunderstood me. I mentioned Glendale in that it's the largest Armenian diaspora in the the Western World. I assume that an English-language source published from there might provide information other than what your Armenian-language sources already provide.

@Marilyn Nix: Ok. Re-submit the article and I'll accept it on the basis of third-party coverage. You'll note I made a couple formatting changes but there is a lot more to do:
  1. Your in-line citations should not be duplicated by a list of references. If you're citing a journal entry in-line (using ref tags) you don't then need to list all the same info in a bullet-ed list.
  2. You have a ridiculously long list of external links and most of them should be removed per WP:EXT. Where applicable, convert them into citations.
  3. Clean up your lede section per WP:LEDE.
  4. Per WP:LONGQUOTE you should try to cut down on the amount of block quotes you're using. Some are ok but you're verging on too much.

@Marilyn Nix: Marilyn, I had to revert one of your edits on my talk page to restore another conversation. I then moved your comment under this section heading. Please be careful on other's talk pages as refactoring others' comments is frowned upon.
I have an example for the issues with citations: you have Jacki Apple's piece on Nancy Buchanan in the citations, but then you duplicate that in the references section, too. Same can be said for The Lure of the Local: Senses of Place in a Multicentered Society. My recommendation would be to keep citations in the citation section assuming you can link a section of text in the article to a page number in a publication. If you have sources that are used generally throughout, you can keep those in the references. When I use Template:sfn, like on Film career of Audie Murphy, the citations only mention the author's name and a page number. The references spell out the rest. Albert Kesselring

Please can you delete the false information of Hawkeye7. If you do a check yourself at Wikipedia, you will see that my information makes the article more complete. The Albert Kesselring information in WW2 is reffering to all theaters and not only to 1943. Stalingrad for example takes place in 1942 and 1943, so we can make the comparision between an even bigger disaster like Operation Bagration is (see Wikipedia page). Point is that Hawkeye7 vision is to narrow and the person can't have a History teacher making the article better. For sources, I provide gladly the next sources in which you will see that Hawkeye7's view is incomplete, he also mentions the Ruhr Pocket that also comes second to Bagration in numbers of prisoners.

When you compare Stalingrad in an article about the colapse in Tunesia, you also ,should speak about the biggest defeat, it makes no sense to speak about the one that comes second. Or, you don't compare at all, an incomplete comparision makes no sense. It is the one or the other.

Capitalization

Howdy Chris, thank you for your edit. Dangnabit, I am a crotchety old English teacher. I am more or less spring-loaded in the nit-picking mode on grammar and stuff. It comes with the territory, I suppose. I can almost see setting "marine corps" and "coast guard" in caps. In common US usage they apply on to the USMC and the USCG. They are proper names, or shortened forms of a proper name. But then that leads us to the absurdity of setting "army" and "navy" in caps. I think you can agree that you can actually feel the slippery slope under your feet at that point. Tell you what, I will not revert your rollback of my edit, but I will continue to hack away at other instances of this. In truth, I try for moderation, I fix capitals in article I read only when they set my teeth (or dentures) on edge. I am not trying to crusade about this. Too much.
