About User 68.82.82.248[edit]

Hi! Where and how can you report someone? User 68.82.82.248 got numerous vandalism warnings but he keeps on vandalising pages. He keeps on deleting Madonna's AKA on her article. All the other editors have no problem with it, I have an official source and it's pertinent information. He also deleted other things on Madonna's page. He deleted the word trendsetter and someone -Fritte- had to put it again. Just log on his User:Talk page to see all the warnings he's still getting. He got some [once again] today! Just a guess about Werdnabot[edit]

Perhaps the first time you experienced the problem you had, it was because you had set the age to "0" which might have a special significance. The next time, it might be because Werdnabot did not run to completion on that day and thus did not reach your page. Just a guess. JRSpriggs 06:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not possible, 0 just means it archives everything on the page as far as I'm aware, and it definitely got to my page, otherwise it wouldn't have touched my archive. – Chacor 09:14, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool??[edit]

No getting away from Liverpool fans wherever I go it seems! Our 2-0 loss to you recently didn't seem quite so bad when I worked out our starting lineup cost £2.85m and yours £43.1m! Hopefully I'll see us get a win tomorrow against Wigan. P.K. 15:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

We better win then!! Well actually we have to or we will end up too far behind to avoid relegation at this rate.

Yes I know, just forget sometimes. P.K. 16:00, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Couple of questions. 1) Why in the TC discussion pages is my name no longer forming a hyperlink? 2) How do I force new lines in my user page, the new line tag in the javascript box doesn't do anything when I preview it?

PS - Would have beaten Wigan had the match not been abandonned.... P.K. 20:20, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I'll just try it over here then. The help page loos like I've been typing 5 instead of 4 which I don't think I was doing. ~ - ~~ - P.K. - P.K. 12:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC) - 12:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC). Edit - Still doing it wrong, I'll have to add it in manually then.

That is odd RSMC Miami convert 115kts incorrectly. I'll have to add it to my list of strange practices there. Including one minute averages, advisories not at 0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 like all other RSMCs/TCWCs and three hours after analysis time compared to a maximum of one hour elsewhere, eastern USA timezones used in public advisories for storms in the Azores, Cape Verde Islands, and continental Europe. The list goes on and on..... P.K. (Some time near Monday lunchtime... in 2007) 12:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support[edit]

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Regarding MOTD[edit]

Thanks for your note - I had already seen the ANI post (and got the "You have new messages" orange bar of death as I clicked "submit" for my comment), however I'm greatful for your note in case I hadn't have seen it. I slightly amended your comment, using strikethru, to indicate what my "status" is. My Request for Adminship[edit]

Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your comment on my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. I'd like to take this opportunity to reply to your neutral !vote and attempt to reply now as if you had opposed over the incident in question. Yes, I made an error of judgement then, but I have learned from that; and I will continue to learn as I gain more experience. Having admin status here should speed my learning process :)--Nilfanion (talk) 23:03, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Hey, thanks for participating in my recent RFA. You were amongst a number of editors who considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and as a consequence the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). I am extremely grateful that you took the time to advise me on to improve as a Wikipedian and I'd like to assure you that I'll do my level best to develop my skills here to a point where you may feel you could trust me with the mop.

I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! RFA on JMilburn[edit]

I am rather new and I have only been here a month so if I am wrong please tell me. :) But I believe, you can have anything you want in your user name space. Your edit on the WP:RFA page seems very ridiculous because you can have anything you want in user subspace unless I misread the policies here on Wikipedia. Also, this edit is confusing too. The nominator of JMilburn's RFA is not a banned user, he's just a regular user like me and you. Thank you and please reply on my talkpalge. Carpet9 01:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I did not see that rule when I read over the rules. Thank you for pointing it out to me. But what about saying he is a banned user? Carpet9 01:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am still partially confused. Thank you for showing me that rule again! Cheers! Carpet9 01:35, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Chacor, users don't choose to accept nominations based on the merits of their nominator (at least, they usually don't). Heck, I've offered to nominate many users, but some have declined, citing reasons like "I want more experience first". As for Jmillburn, he accepted the nomination because he wanted to become an administrator. If you really think the nominator is a bit faulty, then you should just consider it a self-nom. Like I said, accepting/declining the nomination usually doesn't have any relevance to the nominator's capabilities. The user wants to become an administrator on Wikipedia, and he jumped at the offer left by another user. Anyway, I understand that you said you reviewed over the edits, but next time, leave a better reason for opposing an RfA. Also, I'd appreciate it if you would resolve/stop the little feud with Majorly. His points were entirely reasonable given the nature of your response and subsequent comments. And please take such discussions to a talk page, next time. It wasn't really relevant to the RfA. Thanks, Chacor. Nishkid64 02:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your conduct on WP:RFA[edit]

I have to admit to being most concerned at your conduct on several RfAs today, and in particular, your petty squabbles with Majorly, your an experienced Wikipedian and really should know better. What on earth are people going to think when they see an admin and a former admin squabbling on the very page that determines who is an admin in future. I'd prefer if you were to let the argument drop, but if you do persist, please take it to the talk pages concerned and stop putting the candidate at a disadvantage please. --Kind Regards - Heligoland 02:16, 19 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My conduct on RfA[edit]

Chacor – I apologise for my behaviour on RfA last night. It was totally inappropriate, and I hope you can forgive my mistake. Thanks a lot. --Majorly 13:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you feel that way, but just to let you know, I first talked with Majorly about it (on MSN). He was the one who told me about the situation, and I already talked with him about it, so I felt I should have left a message for both parties involved. You think Ryulong will be a bad admin?[edit]

I guess so, since you're trying to prevent him getting his bit. Could you maybe reply to me on my talk page and reelucidate/summarise what issues you would like to see addressed? Thanks! --Kim Bruning 08:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it likely that we both agree that something went wrong regarding process here. So since process isn't doing too great right now, Bold revert discuss suggests it's probably a better idea to first ask for your personal opinion, and we can maybe patch together a new consensus starting from there.
So hence my request to please reelucidate/summarise what issues you would like to see addressed. Does that make sense? Any time you have would be appreciated! :-) --Kim Bruning 08:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the only way in which Raul mishandled the closing is that he didn't use numeric standards, but rather applied slightly older concepts of consensus. But that said, that still leaves us in limbo wrt Ryulong, I figure.
So while the RFA talk and mailing list and whatnot can discuss Raul654s actions, I'd like to come to some kind of agreement wrt Ryulong, if possible. --Kim Bruning 09:03, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, like I've said elsewhere, this is a (still rare!) WP:100 event, and at the same time we're talking about a user with >10K edits (Which always gets a person more opposition, simply because they've made more mistakes. It's ironclad statistics :-/ ). Sooo, I was scratching my head over this one as it was already.
If your problem is with the actions taken by Raul654, does your opinion take the above into account? --Kim Bruning 09:16, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if he wants to try to sell people on that reasoning and form consensus based on it, that might be a good thing. Bureaucrats have been getting just a tad timid, lately. On the other hand, he could have done it better of course, but well, on the gripping hand, what's done is done. <scratches head>
In future, how should situations like with the Ryulong RFA be handled, in your opinion? --Kim Bruning 09:25, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, and tell me more about how Ryulong tends to make mistakes, perhaps something can be done about that. :-) --Kim Bruning 09:26, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Knowing Raul, I'm pretty sure he weighed the repercussions most carefully. You've already stated that he shouldn't have done what he had done. I'm sad that you have no opinion on what the correct procedure might be, since it might mean that we will have similar situations in future, even given perfect bureaucrats. Would you be willing to think about it? --Kim Bruning 09:32, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And what things should Ryulong fix? We might probably be able to actually act on such suggestions in the next 24-48 hours, (and else sometime early next week, depending on whether we need to wait for the storm to lie down a bit first.) --Kim Bruning 09:34, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So you would do what... um, mandate bureaucrat discussion before each promotion? Also, what concrete action might I take wrt helping Ryulong solve some of his flaws? (I have an irc client, and know where to find him ) --Kim Bruning 09:48, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, please do keep an eye out, and drop me and Ryulong a line when you see something! Thanks for helping out! :-) --Kim Bruning 10:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(I'll also try talk with Raul654, as soon as I can catch him) --Kim Bruning 10:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and Somitho just apologised to you. He hadn't thought about how his statements might hurt you, and has done so now. Will you accept his apology? :-) Have a nice day! --Kim Bruning 10:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the Cyclone Monica reverts.[edit]

While I understand you're just reverting them due to policy, I have a question. Why is only half the information taken from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and the other half taken from the Australian Weather Bureau (who actually manage the storm)? In my opinion that is very inconsistent. It should either all be from JTWC (meaning the mb is dropped to 879), or all from the bureau (meaning the winds are raised because having that much of a difference is ridiculous when compared to Hurricane Camille and Typhoon Tip, who both apparently had LOWER gusts than Cyclone Monica). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 9287392639862s (talkcontribs) 10:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I'll respond here, since I'm waiting for an autoblock to be lifted. Normally, for non-NHC/CPHC storms, we include 1-minute wind info from the JTWC, and 10-minute wind info (as well as pressure) from the RSMC. However, Australia is different in the way that they rank their storm strength on gusts, hence it's gusts that's listed, not 1-minute or 10-minute winds. If you have a look at any recent typhoon article (from when the JMA took over naming responsibility), you'll see that there's both 1-min and 10-min info listed. It's not a case of half the info from each side, it just has to do with how the BOM handle their storms. – Chacor 10:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for the reply. The bureau has recently introduced Technical Summaries for their Cyclones now. I caught a glimpse of one with Tropical Cyclone Isobel (they didn't have these last season). It lists a whole variety of information, including 1 minute sustained winds, and 10 minute sustained winds; in the future do you think these may be used? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 9287392639862s (talkcontribs) 12:51, 29 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Requests for adminship[edit]

Why would you add a nomination to RfA that the self nominator had not chosen to add yet? It's their choice when they feel the nomination is ready. I grant this one would not have been successful in any case, and it's hard to tell if it's serious, but the point remains in general. It would have been better to ask the user about it, and encourage them to close it without listing on RfA, as there's no reason to have people comment on something like that. - Taxman Talk 13:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Portal:Current Events[edit]

When editing Portal:CE, shouldn't the new date be visible anyway? If it's blank it's clearer that nothing has been added yet today - news being added to these days doesn't show up until this page is edited, and when adding news it should be in the topmost box rather than having to navigate through to find that box in the first place. Having the empty date there makes the addition of that news simpler (and more likely to go into the correct day's news instead of at the top of the previous day's events simply because that's at the top), makes events added to the day's calendar instant rather than requiring the first submitter to know to make the two edits, prevents strange extra dates being added, and is clearer to readers that the events from the day before are indeed those of the day before. Simpler is better, no? --Firien § 15:35, 1 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

David, I think it's best to let the matter rest. If you have problems with Phil's actions, use RFC or RFM, but the matter regarding the question at the RFA is closed, okay? Edit summary by Chacor 01:34, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't seem okay to me. Twice I found myself accidentally posting a reply to a closed discussion (because MediaWiki attempts to compensate for edit conflicts instead of displaying a warning). In both cases, I was responding to questions/comments directed toward me (and I certainly wasn't going to allow it to appear as though I ignored them). It's possible that someone is being prevented from replying to me, and that isn't fair either.
I don't believe that it's appropriate or helpful to close an active, good-faith discussion regarding unresolved matters. Telling everyone to take their marbles and go home doesn't solve anything. It's just a means of burying our heads in the sand. (Sorry about the combination of metaphors.) —David Levy 02:09/02:10, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A few people have been busy with the tracks, apparently going back to at least 1972 for virtually all western pacific typhoons/tropical storms. Depressions seem to be hit or miss. I just became aware of this a couple days ago because they didn't advertise their efforts and I didn't know where to look. I've been working from 1981 to present...up to 1985 now...trying to get the seaons up to B class. It's a shame the annual articles have been left in their initial disrepair, in many cases. I guess someone wanted to have a placeholder for all the seasons, rather than spend the time to put at least blurb for every storm in all those seasons. NBC[edit]

I don't know if I should stop watching NBC -- if I were to stop viewing, then their nightly viewership would sink to 0! :P If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 09:22, 6 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My RfA[edit]

I have chosen to withdraw my RfA. It seems quite a few opposes did come from what people are calling a personal attack against yourself. I'd appreciate it if you would review the talk page for the article, to clear up any misconceptions, if you still think my statement was directed to you as a personal attack. My pics[edit]

Umm, they were in the Wikipedia articles, so I see no problem with them being on my page. I'm not braking a law. If the owners of the pics want to come sue me, let them. It's not a big deal. I can't stand this crap with fair use. It's legal. No one can sue you. Stop worrying about it. -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 06:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What?! I did nothing wrong. What pics are wrong? I don't see any. What pics are you talking about? This is ridiculous. Why are you targeting me now at 1:42 in the morning. Leave it be. The is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. If they're in the articles, why can't I have them on my userpage? How about you explain that to me instead of counting to three. -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 06:44, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't answer my question, which images are you talking about? Why are you handcuffing me when there are plenty of others out there who use the same userboxes? Why does Wikipedia treat it like a cardinal sin? You have broken the sacred code, you must be banned. Wikipedia's image as a free encyclopedia is not going to be tarnished by a few images on someone's userpage that fall under a different part of US law. Not that you care what I think. It's not like it matters. I am but a powerless slave in this this horrible grist mill. To think thousands would flock to a place whose policy says, "You have no rights, shup up and work while I sit on my butt and laugh at you." I really only stay because I have befriended some people in the hurricane pages and like to help them out. Now you probably don't agree with a single word of that and nor do you have to. I'm not forcing you to agree with me. I'm not saying agree or leave. I'm saying how I feel and all I ask is that you listen, and answer the questions I posed at the beginning. I also ask that you let me alone for now. It is 2 o'clock in the morning and I am tired and irritable as you can see. -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 07:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editor review[edit]

Hi there, I'm not applying in June to become an administrator just because I think it would show I was a good user or I was a sergeant like person, I'm doing it because I would like to help the wikipedia community in things such as closing AFD's, TFD's, UCFD's, CFD's and MFD's as-well as helping out with help request on cases and vandalism fighting such as keeing a regular chack on WP:AIV, I hope you understand my point. The reason I left my personal standard of edit count per mont on that user's RFA was because I believed it to be the approximate amount (however if all of his edits that month were creating factual and up-to standard articles then I would definitely change my vote to support), if there was a reason why it was low then I can undrstand that and admit I was wrong. Thanks and I hope we can remain civil over this. If you have any more comments please feel free to contact me on my talk page or leave any more comments on my editor review.TellyaddictEditor review! 20:27, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Madagascar[edit]

The problem is "Madagascan" is totally WP:NEO and blatantly against policy. Yes, Malagasy is ambiguous as both an ethnicity and a nationality adjective, but no more so than "German".--Pharos 01:45, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I read the conversation, I don't think it was really definitively discussed in the first place (I can't find a record of anyone else actually agreeing that it should be at "Madagascan"). Anyway, such an obviously non-real name for a country had to be changed quickly, and in this case I opted to be WP:BOLD. If you still contest it, that's something else, of course, but I think the case is clear.--Pharos 02:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Good news[edit]

Hey Chacor, not sure if you were aware of it or not but User:Metta Bubble has returned. Cheers. (Netscott) 01:40, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

POTY 2006[edit]

Your vote was not considered because you did not sign as a Commons user. If you don't have an account in Commos, please sign with your IP and insert a "diff", according to instructions. Alvesgaspar 10:07, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replied, rather confused, on commons. – Chacor 11:06, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is lost! Let me quote the instructions in the POTY 2006 page:

To vote, you must be an established Wiki editor with at least 100 edits registered either on your Commons or on your home wiki account (eg on one of the Wikipedia sites). If you have a Commons username, please vote under that name. If not, you can vote under your IP address. If you don't have 100 edits on your Commons account, but do on your home wiki, please add a diff pointing to a statement on your home wiki talk page which confirms your identity. For example: diff which appears as diff, or diff which appears as diff. All votes must identify the voter either by a logged-in Commons username, or by posting a diff to your local talk page as shown above. Votes that do not comply will be excluded.

This means that you have to sign the votinh entry with your Commons username and, if you don't have 100 edits in Commons, insert a "diff" to your home wiki, as explained. Please vote again, you have plenty of time :) - Alvesgaspar 14:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Go...[edit]

You attacked me first, buddy. All i did was justly criticize your terrible grammar and awful selection of news stories. A plane crash in moscow that nobody died in is not internationally relevant. I gauruntee somebody else takes it down. I have been on WP for over almost 2 years. Why the hell are you putting a "welcome" page on my talk. How about you talk to me like a real person instead of crying to one of your little admin friends? Stay the hell off my talk page. Stick to editing your little admin pages. Based on your previous entries, you have no buisiness editing current events (that is not a personal attack, just an honest criticism). UGHHHHHH WikiTony 03:49, 14 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hey[edit]

Hey Chacor, sorry, I was dealing with a block evasion and by the time I got there Nearly Headless Nick had already left him a message. I agree his use of edit summaries and his messages to you and Coredesat were out-of-line. He hasn't edited for a few hours, though, and hopefully when he get's back he'll have calmed down. If it keeps up, let me know. Cheers, Sarah 11:01, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the olive branch[edit]

Hi,

Althought the wording i used may have been a bit impolite, i stand by my opinions and edits. The plane crash story is not internationally relevant, and IMHO, does not belong on current events. Planes crash all the time. People even die. Nobody died here. Just because the BBC covers the story does not mean it belongs on the current events page. And by the way i never directed you away from the current events page. i just suggested you learn how to properly write a current events blurb (including proper grammar). i also think it was rather childish of you to run to your admin buddies instead of at the very least attempting to sort the problem out amongst ourselves. I mean you no personal hostility- i just think your selection of relevant news stories and writing style is questionable. If you want to see how current events "should" be written, explore my contribs. I know i do not own the current events page (another cheap shot AND personal attack by you) but i do take pride in making sure all entries are relevant, factual, and gramatically correct. I hope we can put this unpleasantness behind us and work towards continuing to build wikipedia's excellence, which we both obviously care about. If you have any further problems with me please approach me directly so we can handle it like mature adults (if you are one). Peace and love. WikiTony 17:26, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
