Hi! Where and how can you report someone? User 68.82.82.248 got numerous vandalism warnings but he keeps on vandalising pages. He keeps on deleting Madonna's AKA on her article. All the other editors have no problem with it, I have an official source and it's pertinent information. He also deleted other things on Madonna's page. He deleted the word trendsetter and someone -Fritte- had to put it again. Just log on his User:Talk page to see all the warnings he's still getting. He got some [once again] today! Just a guess about Werdnabot

Perhaps the first time you experienced the problem you had, it was because you had set the age to "0" which might have a special significance. That is odd RSMC Miami convert 115kts incorrectly. I'll have to add it to my list of strange practices there. Including one minute averages, advisories not at 0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 like all other RSMCs/TCWCs and three hours after analysis time compared to a maximum of one hour elsewhere, eastern USA timezones used in public advisories for storms in the Azores, Cape Verde Islands, and continental Europe. RFA on JMilburn

I am rather new and I have only been here a month so if I am wrong please tell me. :) But I believe, you can have anything you want in your user name space. Your edit on the WP:RFA page seems very ridiculous because you can have anything you want in user subspace unless I misread the policies here on Wikipedia. Also, this edit is confusing too. Chacor, users don't choose to accept nominations based on the merits of their nominator (at least, they usually don't). Heck, I've offered to nominate many users, but some have declined, citing reasons like "I want more experience first". As for Jmillburn, he accepted the nomination because he wanted to become an administrator. If you really think the nominator is a bit faulty, then you should just consider it a self-nom. Like I said, accepting/declining the nomination usually doesn't have any relevance to the nominator's capabilities. The user wants to become an administrator on Wikipedia, and he jumped at the offer left by another user. Anyway, I understand that you said you reviewed over the edits, but next time, leave a better reason for opposing an RfA. Also, I'd appreciate it if you would resolve/stop the little feud with Majorly. His points were entirely reasonable given the nature of your response and subsequent comments. I have to admit to being most concerned at your conduct on several RfAs today, and in particular, your petty squabbles with Majorly, your an experienced Wikipedian and really should know better. Well, the only way in which Raul mishandled the closing is that he didn't use numeric standards, but rather applied slightly older concepts of consensus. But that said, that still leaves us in limbo wrt Ryulong, I figure.

Question about the Cyclone Monica reverts.

While I understand you're just reverting them due to policy, I have a question. Why is only half the information taken from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and the other half taken from the Australian Weather Bureau (who actually manage the storm)? In my opinion that is very inconsistent. It should either all be from JTWC (meaning the mb is dropped to 879), or all from the bureau (meaning the winds are raised because having that much of a difference is ridiculous when compared to Hurricane Camille and Typhoon Tip, who both apparently had LOWER gusts than Cyclone Monica). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 9287392639862s (talk • contribs) 10:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC).

I'll respond here, since I'm waiting for an autoblock to be lifted. Normally, for non-NHC/CPHC storms, we include 1-minute wind info from the JTWC, and 10-minute wind info (as well as pressure) from the RSMC. However, Australia is different in the way that they rank their storm strength on gusts, hence it's gusts that's listed, not 1-minute or 10-minute winds. If you have a look at any recent typhoon article (from when the JMA took over naming responsibility), you'll see that there's both 1-min and 10-min info listed. It's not a case of half the info from each side, it just has to do with how the BOM handle their storms. – Chacor 10:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the reply. The bureau has recently introduced Technical Summaries for their Cyclones now. I caught a glimpse of one with Tropical Cyclone Isobel (they didn't have these last season). Requests for adminship

Why would you add a nomination to RfA that the self nominator had not chosen to add yet? It's their choice when they feel the nomination is ready. I grant this one would not have been successful in any case, and it's hard to tell if it's serious, but the point remains in general. It would have been better to ask the user about it, and encourage them to close it without listing on RfA, as there's no reason to have people comment on something like that. - Taxman ^Talk 13:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Current Events

When editing Portal:CE, shouldn't the new date be visible anyway? If it's blank it's clearer that nothing has been added yet today - news being added to these days doesn't show up until this page is edited, and when adding news it should be in the topmost box rather than having to navigate through to find that box in the first place. Having the empty date there makes the addition of that news simpler (and more likely to go into the correct day's news instead of at the top of the previous day's events simply because that's at the top), makes events added to the day's calendar instant rather than requiring the first submitter to know to make the two edits, prevents strange extra dates being added, and is clearer to readers that the events from the day before are indeed those of the day before. It doesn't seem okay to me. Twice I found myself accidentally posting a reply to a closed discussion (because MediaWiki attempts to compensate for edit conflicts instead of displaying a warning). In both cases, I was responding to questions/comments directed toward me (and I certainly wasn't going to allow it to appear as though I ignored them). It's possible that someone is being prevented from replying to me, and that isn't fair either.

I don't believe that it's appropriate or helpful to close an active, good-faith discussion regarding unresolved matters. Telling everyone to take their marbles and go home doesn't solve anything. All My Children/Typhoon Seasons

A few people have been busy with the tracks, apparently going back to at least 1972 for virtually all western pacific typhoons/tropical storms. Depressions seem to be hit or miss. I just became aware of this a couple days ago because they didn't advertise their efforts and I didn't know where to look. I've been working from 1981 to present...up to 1985 now...trying to get the seaons up to B class. It's a shame the annual articles have been left in their initial disrepair, in many cases. I guess someone wanted to have a placeholder for all the seasons, rather than spend the time to put at least blurb for every storm in all those seasons. Thegreatdr 15:09, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Umm, they were in the Wikipedia articles, so I see no problem with them being on my page. I'm not braking a law. If the owners of the pics want to come sue me, let them. It's not a big deal. You didn't answer my question, which images are you talking about? Why are you handcuffing me when there are plenty of others out there who use the same userboxes? Why does Wikipedia treat it like a cardinal sin? You have broken the sacred code, you must be banned. Wikipedia's image as a free encyclopedia is not going to be tarnished by a few images on someone's userpage that fall under a different part of US law. Not that you care what I think. It's not like it matters. I am but a powerless slave in this this horrible grist mill. To think thousands would flock to a place whose policy says, "You have no rights, shup up and work while I sit on my butt and laugh at you." I really only stay because I have befriended some people in the hurricane pages and like to help them out. Now you probably don't agree with a single word of that and nor do you have to. I'm not forcing you to agree with me. I'm not saying agree or leave. I'm saying how I feel and all I ask is that you listen, and answer the questions I posed at the beginning. Editor review

Hi there, I'm not applying in June to become an administrator just because I think it would show I was a good user or I was a sergeant like person, I'm doing it because I would like to help the wikipedia community in things such as closing AFD's, TFD's, UCFD's, CFD's and MFD's as-well as helping out with help request on cases and vandalism fighting such as keeing a regular chack on WP:AIV, I hope you understand my point. The reason I left my personal standard of edit count per mont on that user's RFA was because I believed it to be the approximate amount (however if all of his edits that month were creating factual and up-to standard articles then I would definitely change my vote to support), if there was a reason why it was low then I can undrstand that and admit I was wrong. Thanks and I hope we can remain civil over this. Madagascar

The problem is "Madagascan" is totally WP:NEO and blatantly against policy. Yes, Malagasy is ambiguous as both an ethnicity and a nationality adjective, but no more so than "German".--Pharos 01:45, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

As I read the conversation, I don't think it was really definitively discussed in the first place (I can't find a record of anyone else actually agreeing that it should be at "Madagascan"). Anyway, such an obviously non-real name for a country had to be changed quickly, and in this case I opted to be WP:BOLD. If you still contest it, that's something else, of course, but I think the case is clear.--Pharos 02:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Nothing is lost! Let me quote the instructions in the POTY 2006 page:

To vote, you must be an established Wiki editor with at least 100 edits registered either on your Commons or on your home wiki account (eg on one of the Wikipedia sites). If you have a Commons username, please vote under that name. If not, you can vote under your IP address. If you don't have 100 edits on your Commons account, but do on your home wiki, please add a diff pointing to a statement on your home wiki talk page which confirms your identity. For example: diff which appears as diff, or diff which appears as diff. All votes must identify the voter either by a logged-in Commons username, or by posting a diff to your local talk page as shown above. Votes that do not comply will be excluded.

You attacked me first, buddy. All i did was justly criticize your terrible grammar and awful selection of news stories. A plane crash in moscow that nobody died in is not internationally relevant. I gauruntee somebody else takes it down. I have been on WP for over almost 2 years. Why the hell are you putting a "welcome" page on my talk. How about you talk to me like a real person instead of crying to one of your little admin friends? Stay the hell off my talk page. Stick to editing your little admin pages. Hi,

Althought the wording i used may have been a bit impolite, i stand by my opinions and edits. The plane crash story is not internationally relevant, and IMHO, does not belong on current events. Planes crash all the time. People even die. Nobody died here. Just because the BBC covers the story does not mean it belongs on the current events page. And by the way i never directed you away from the current events page. i just suggested you learn how to properly write a current events blurb (including proper grammar). i also think it was rather childish of you to run to your admin buddies instead of at the very least attempting to sort the problem out amongst ourselves. I mean you no personal hostility- i just think your selection of relevant news stories and writing style is questionable. If you want to see how current events "should" be written, explore my contribs. I know i do not own the current events page (another cheap shot AND personal attack by you) but i do take pride in making sure all entries are relevant, factual, and gramatically correct. I hope we can put this unpleasantness behind us and work towards continuing to build wikipedia's excellence, which we both obviously care about.
