Image talk:Afrasiab-chess.gif[edit]

Nice image, but I don't think it qualifies as fair use. I'm pretty sure we'll need to delete it unless you are th creator of the work and can license it as PD or CC-by-sa. Leave me a messge on my talk, please. Thanks :) Dlohcierekim 14:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

5D[edit]

Could you tell me more about this 5D game (which you mentioned in the Suit_(cards) article)? I went to their website and their English page sorely lacking information about it. Any kind of newsletter I could sign up for or introductory pricing I could get in on? --Logomachist (talk) 02:18, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mondlango[edit]

The article Mondlango has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Invented language, no references

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. <>Multi-Xfer<> (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Mondlango, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mondlango. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. <>Multi-Xfer<> (talk) 02:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'm not necessarily opposed to an article about this language, but it is critical to establish notability. Please read WP:N and WP:RS, and try to find some reliable, third-party referenced we can add to the article to establish notability. If this is done, the article will likely be kept and improved, rather than deleted. <>Multi-Xfer<> (talk) 22:06, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The best thing you can do is look for newspaper articles, journal articles, magazine articles, or anything like that which discuss Mondlango. If you can find anything like this, I will even help you improve the article. <>Multi-Xfer<> (talk) 04:35, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cazaux. As an answer to what you wrote on my talkpage - it is not that people are hunting for articles to delete for the sake of it; there is a group of users that monitor newly-created pages to evaluate if they meet the requisites to be included in Wikipedia. Then a discussion starts. Now, in the case of your article about Mondlango, what is missing are the sources that prove that Mondlango is indeed a relevant subject. Being interesting unfortunately is not enough to guarantee an article, you need to provide sources showing that it is relevant. To do so, you might want to find publications, newspaper articles, news updates or similar things. Of course the inventor's own website will not be enough to assert notability, although it can be useful as a source. McMarcoP (talk) 08:53, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Timur-1.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Timur-1.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 22:42, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Shako (chess variant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://history.chess.free.fr/shako_variant.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Davidson[edit]

Are you familiar with Henry Alexander Davidson's A Short History of Chess? The claim that capturing the king was allowed in "Sanskrit chess" (whatever that is) originates from this book, but maybe this should be disregarded as a source. My impression is that as a chess historian he was strictly an amateur, but I haven't seen the original book. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 10:04, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide a reference that H.J.R. Murray misread Carrera[edit]

I observe that, on Capablanca Chess, you note that H.J.R. Murray got the opening setup for Carrera’s Chess wrong. I do not personally disagree with you, but since we have a reference (namely, Murray’s book) which says the Carrera opening setup was RCNBQKBNAR but no reference saying that Carrera actually proposed RANBQKBNCR, we will have to use the RCNBQKBNAR setup until we find a reliable source telling us otherwise.

Thank you for your contributions. Samboy (talk) 23:42, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Never find, I found a couple of references directly contradicting Murray, so we can safely say Murray got it wrong. Samboy (talk) 00:07, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
