Thank you today for Little Tich, about the "music hall comedian Little Tich", "as well known for his music hall acts as he was for his physical disabilities. He used these "peculiarities" as an enhancement to his act which included his acrobatic and comedic "Big-Boot Dance" for which he wore boots with twenty-eight inch soles. He also created many comic characters including The Spanish Señora, The Gendarme and The Tax Collector, and was a popular performer in the annual Christmas pantomimes which were held at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane from 1888. I have worked on this for the last couple of months, and with peer review now archived, I think it is now ready for FA consideration. - And ignoring the words of the song, it seems some people just can't let it go! Ah well, when you try and censor others to make it look like you've had the last word, authoritah is a zero sum game. There's too much game playing and crap from too many people in this place, and too little focus on writing articles and improving what needs to be improved. The cringe factor in the conversation you link to is too much to even get past the first few lines without me wanting to throw myself through a food blender in utter cringe. - Oh, just the usual, but more so. The pointy and vomit-inducing posting of awards to the disruptive or the bullies, the people who think that editing other people's comments is acceptable, the endless poking by a small number of individuals on a small number of articles, and the part time stalking and low level harassment by second rate non-entities. - SchroCat, we persevere because at least we, the content creator, will be leaving something for the future generations to appreciate and learn from, hopefully. The same, sadly, cannot be said for the raving sycophants and trolls who fester the drama boards on a daily basis; those who backslap stupid barnstars on each other for doing nothing constructive, anywhere, ever, who deep down know they do nothing constructive, but need to appear caring and appreciative so they can use the diff in future debates about their own conduct; people who award others "cups of coffee" and "slices of cake" for wading into a subject that has nothing to do with them and who then make "difficult decisions" by blocking those who have been poked in the debate rather than the poker themselves; pompous arbitration committees who couldn't arbitrate their way out of a wet paper bag; bad administrators - of whom there are plenty - going about and doing as they please without any risk of recall or criticism...the list is endless. But somewhere, among all this turgid, self-loving, nauseating, hypocritical nonsense, there is a point to all this; a website whose motive was, in the beginning, to create educational, interesting and informative articles that our children, and their children, can all learn from. - I'm slowly and gradually getting back into the swing of writing for this place having had the wind comprehensively knocked out of my sails by ... well, I don't think I need to remind you. It doesn't help that the library's still shut and my access to the Gale Group Times archives appears to have been switched off as a by-product of that, so half the sources I want to get hold of, I can't, unless I shell out for them on Amazon / eBay / etc. I do actually give out barnstars for people who I think are somewhat unsung heroes, such as Zmbro for going through a bunch of Bowie album articles and improving them to GA, or for Bridgetfox doing lots of work on London streets and architecture (and continues to do so despite the usual templated bumph that gets dropped on a casual editor's talk page), so I wouldn't totally write off the concept, it's just I don't think too many people seek out promising content creators and give them a bit of encouragement. - Ritchie333, for me, Barnstars lost their meaning a hell of a long time ago, especially when people were awarding them for blocking people; there's a page, somewhere, that I created to put all mine on, which I did, as I didn't want to simply delete them all when my opinion of them changed as there were a lot of well-meaning people who gave them to me. Each to their own. You are a very rare breed in as much that you are an excellent writer, prolific content creator, fair admin, and an exerciser of common sense. - I agree with that. And at least you are able to tell the difference between "advice" and threats that flow over into harassment. It's a shame not all admins know the difference between the two, and why the worst of them insist on the "You WILL respect my authoritah!" approach, deleting posts to make it look like they are getting the last word in a discussion; these are the ones that are dangerously disruptive. Still I'm sure I must be distorting things, by removing posts to make it look like my word is law. oh no, that's right... - The trouble is, anyone who is already a good content creator and would make a decent admin doesn't want to go through a week of people saying "Q47 - If you could write a new Wikipedia policy, what would it be?" or "Oppose - has never reported any editors for vandalism" (which brings me to mention my general view that anyone with 5 FAs could go to AIV and close every report there 100% correctly despite having zero experience, and do a better job of it than the Twinklers). Indeed, there are several editors I respect hugely, who I would have complete and utter trust in the admin toolset (random example), but I don't think are likely to run the gauntlet. - Seeing your comments elsewhere Cass, you forget that such things are permissible and supported for IB supporters. If you express feelings that are less than supportive - say, for example, that you are not interested, Admins are happy to breach TPO guidelines and delete talk page posts that they have absolutely no right in removing. Looking at TPO, there is no justification for such a deletion (again, something you or I would be blocked for), although the AUTHORITAH brigade will claim they have the power. - SchroCat (talk) 15:18, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
