Umm, Hi! CTJF83 06:45, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Treaty House v. Claim House

When I was in Davenport a couple of weeks ago I went looking for the Claim House, as I do not remember ever having seen it. When I pulled up to the address I saw the house pictured to the left, which you named the "Treaty House". I did some research and came upon this article in the Quad-City Times that says the Treaty House was torn down in the 1960s. I believe your picture is of the Claim House and not the Treaty House. Farragutful (talk) 19:38, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh dang! Thanks for the clarification. I hope I didn't mix up any other images. I requested a rename on Commons.CTJF83 20:23, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
No problem. I realized I gave the wrong name to one of my photos last year and I had to do the same thing. Farragutful (talk) 20:44, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Glad I'm not the only one :) CTJF83 22:06, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Iowa FAC?

I see you don't have regular internets currently, but I was wondering if you would be interested in trying to collaborate with me to try to get Iowa to FA status. –Fredddie 21:35, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Sure, I have User:Ctjf83/Iowa, I'll have to wait for it to be undeleted to see what is on it. I'm more motivated with partners to work on it. CTJF83 22:52, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I asked an admin friend of mine to do the honors. It appears to be either a failed GAN or an archived PR. –Fredddie 05:27, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
I think it was more of a general "let's improve the article." If you really want to do a FA-drive, please throw a mention over at WT:IOWA for those who have the page watchlisted. --Philosopher Let us reason together. via alternate account 10:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
ya, that page was just an idea mill CTJF83 06:43, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Philosopher you want to help out too? CTJF83 04:41, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Normally I would, but I'm going to be too busy to really help out until the end of February. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 07:38, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Ok, that's cool. CTJF83 10:36, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

OK, I looked at Oklahoma, which is a FA, and I made an outline of what could be covered. I did not cross-reference it with Iowa to see what is covered. –Fredddie 00:37, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Ok, looks good! CTJF83 11:39, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Caught me!

You caught me playing around with the pix in the other Scott County list. I've got to go for 30 minutes but will return to align and revert if needed. Smallbones (talk) 02:45, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Ok, cool, sounds good :) CTJF83 02:47, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

200px|right Unfortunately, our picture is incorrect. I believe that building was built in the 1950s as an addition to the main store. The J.H.C. Petersen's Sons Wholesale Building is the structure behind with the large lettering "Petersen, Harned, Von Maur Department Store". If you look on the left side of the photo of the Schick's Express and Transfer Co. building, which is correct, you can see part of it again. It faced River Drive while the building in this photo faces Main Street. There were a couple of smaller buildings, also on the National Register, between this building and River Drive (Clifton-Metropolitan Hotel and the Schauder Hotel). Good job finding these old photos though.Farragutful (talk) 23:13, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh, ok, ya I thought it was all 1 building in the picture. How can you tell which way the building faces in the pic?! Thanks for the correction. CTJF83 11:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
It's not so much the pic as I remember the building. Remember I'm old enough to have shopped in the store. (It closed when I was in college.) As I recall this part of the complex was called Petersen's Loft. I don't know that it was connected to the wholesale building, but I do recall there was a "skybridge" type passage (no windows) that went over the alley between the main store and these other buildings across the alley. Farragutful (talk) 21:43, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
LOL, ahh, ok, that makes sense then. :) I'll see if I can find more pics at the library. Should I request that pic be deleted, or do we have other use for it? CTJF83 05:01, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

What the...?

What is going on on Talk:Fisting? It looks like you're letting it get to you, which I understand given the bizarre "anything anal is a simile of vaginal activity" essay from MarcusBritish and the obvious trolling. I'm going to ask for temporary semi-protection and a CU on the socks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 03:01, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Seeking consensus on when to edit File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg following new legislation/court-rulings

Hello, I have noticed you made edits on File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg and/or File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg/Archive 5, so I am contacting you to take part in a newly-formed discussion at File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg as for whether we should update the map directly when a new legislation or court-order hits the books or if we should wait until said action takes effect. Historically, we have been updating the map when the new legislation is signed (or veto overrode or won at the ballot box, etc.), and thus it can be inferred that the consensus is to update as soon as one of those occurs. A discussion has emerged in regards to whether we should begin updating from the effective date instead of from the date of signing/etc. If you have an opinion over this matter please post it at File_talk:Samesex_marriage_in_USA.svg#When_to_update_map.3F_Effective_date_or_signing.2Fruling_date

Thegreyanomaly (talk) 22:41, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

What happened to "Over it and don't care."?

As you stated in this discussion you no longer cared about what happened on the Fisting article. this false vandalism reversion suggests otherwise. Could you please clarify your stance on this article? Thanks! Barts1a / What did I actually do right? / What did I do wrong this time? 23:32, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I really don't care who is "right", but bringing it up again and again is just going to pour gasoline on the fire. So, I figured I'd save everyone the dramaz and let the bots bury it before he could see it here. No more, no less. –Fredddie 03:56, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

No, it's just a 1 time joke. CTJF83 03:18, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Quagmire

I included Quagmire under the category "fictional pedophiles" because he has shown sexual attraction to (female) minors such as Meg. I guess that's too much of a stretch though, since he is mindful enough of statutory rape laws to not have sexual intercourse with women under the age of 18. I don't have a problem with it being reverted. --JohnnyLurg (talk) 02:18, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Ok, in one episode, can't remember which, he does ask Meg if she is 18 yet or how old she is and she says 17, and he moves on to talk to Chris. CTJF83 09:56, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

For the record, on the "Gaytheist" thing . . .

Remember when gave you that Userbox? The Gaytheist one? You asked me if I had made the word up. Well, I thought I had, but just now I came across an article, Pink Triangle Trust, which uses the term. So I guess someone beat me to it.

So it was your 28th birthday yesterday? What a change we've gone through since my 28th--Ronald Reagan was president back then. HuskyHuskie (talk) 18:01, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Updated information: I see that the term "Gaytheist" was not added to that article until long after I had used it on your webpage. So who know, maybe I did coin it, and the Pink Triangles copied the idea from your userpage. Cool--you're now officially a trendsetter. HuskyHuskie (talk) 18:14, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
LOL, we'll go with them copying off you! Actually 29, forgot to update....so you were like 29 when I was born, lol. CTJF83 23:08, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Episode airdates

I'm in a bit of a dilemma in the List of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated episodes article with another editor about whether to include airdates from other English-speaking countries if the show airs there first. I remembered you had spoken with User:JamesAlan1986 in the past about the same matter, and had told him to use American airdates only, per MOS:TV#Broadcast; however, a third editor claims (and is right in claiming so) that neither MOS:TV, nor any other page dealing with such, specifies any particular country's airdate be listed. Would you, if/when you get a good enough Internet connection, help us to rectify this? Thanks a bunch. Black Yoshi (Yoshi! | Yoshi's Eggs) 09:44, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

That's a shame, both about the burn out and the house. Thanks for the info. Since there was some archaeology there, I was hoping to use it as an example of a site people can visit. Can people walk around the grounds, or is it fenced off with a big dog? Bill Whittaker (talk) 18:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Please quote a guideline or policy to back your action

I won't revert again because I've no intention to violate the WP:3RR policy. That doesn't mean I agree with your editorial choice. And your statement of avoiding a discussion set a bad example as a Wikipedian. I can see your preference of using "gay" over "homosexual" which in my view is unjustifiable. If there was any Wikipedia policy or guideline supporting your usage I would gladly follow, but I have never seen one. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 07:03, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

There is no policy just like a lot of things don't have a specific policy. If you still live in Hong Kong you may be unaware that in America gay is not a slang term but the preferred terminology. The word homosexual is offensive and has 1970 clinical connotations. I hardly consider my edit anything controversial and WP:BOLD suggests I don't need a discussion before edits I don't believe are controversial. You can feel free to discuss your feelings on the talk page and I'll weigh in. CTF83! 08:14, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Also see this CTF83! 08:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
A discussion is highly recommended before you revert other's rollback of your previous edit. Just because we're encouraged to be bold doesn't mean it's acceptable to take action before discussion. My major concern is, offensive or not, the usage is already widely applied across the (English) Wikimedia projects. If the change of usage is so dreadfully needed, it should be discussed thoroughly and publicly in WP:VP/P or Portal talk:LGBT by more experienced Wikipedians. And I admit proposing a new guideline for LBGT terms is also required after reading GLAAD Media Guide, but that doesn't mean that guide has absolute power over Wikipedia MOS. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 08:53, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
I have 6 years and almost 50,000 edits of experience. I started a conversation on WT:LGBT, but will probably switch to a less bias more diverse forum CTF83! 09:21, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
You should ask this at Wikiproject LGBT studies Sameboat, where you would find a lot of support for "gay" and "lesbian" over "homosexual", which as CTF83 says, is a clinical term and not preferred. We don't use "half-caste" or "negro" for them being unpolitically correct and even offensive to some, likewise "homosexual" is an old name from when it was considered an illness, it's not considered politically correct, and quite frankly i would avoid anyone preferring that term in situations that don't require it. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 09:24, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
