Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Boohoolane. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Justiyaya 05:39, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - unsure of what you are talking about and why you keep removing my contributions. This seems very targeted and anti SWANA-MENA of you. Are people not allowed to make contributions for these titles and artists? I would be able to go through my list much faster if I did not run into these weird issues - I don’t see these issues happening for other films and performers (for which I am referencing many to make sure I am within guidelines).
While I respect your message please understand the escalations + targeting does not feel warranted at all. Boohoolane (talk) 14:40, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And per COI there is no payment or relationship with anyone I am editing. In a world where people can become journalists for Taylor Swift we can also help make edits and contributions to minority artists and titles.
By the way - is your adoptme still open? I would like to apply Boohoolane (talk) 15:07, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you are referring to Special:Diff/1184138566, I've looked through your past edits and it appears to be entirely made up of edits relating to Jerry Habibi. You appear to be focused solely on one single topic and have also declared a conflict of interest in the past, hence the COI warning and reverts. You are expected to propose the changes on the talk page of the article instead of editing it directly if you have a conflict of interest. Looking solely at the edit, I don't think it would stand even it if is made by someone else. Letterboxd does not appear to be really reliable.
If you want to grow as an editor, it might be better to choose another task here or write about a different subject, I don't think this draft would go anywhere.
To echo 331dot, in a lot of messages you've referred to yourself as "we", who is "we"? Justiyaya 04:02, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So this is Letterboxd Journal - it is their editorial team (it's a start-up company, I would like to populate their editorial section at some point because it is a developing company). Yes - I would like to one by one and build pages for underrepresented performers as well as new start-up companies in film like Letterboxd - as my start-up point rather. That's my attraction to The Persian Version page, if I can help populate info why not, y'know? Going back to answering your question though - I pulled that entire quote from the editorial source (not an independent Letterboxd user review - that would be unreliable as a source to cite.
I will definitely look into tasks when I have some downtime this weekend. I am getting smacked by work and exams. As far as "We" that is simply me! It is a bad habit of mine (sorry I am on the spectrum and sometimes speak in weird verbiage when I get a little excited). :) Boohoolane (talk) 08:13, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes this as well: Given that I am learning about pages and edits too I am moving at a snail pace but prefer to tackle things one at a time eg making a page, making edits to only one page or relative pages. It is a great learning experience this way - I feel very much enrichened by the knowledge of do's and don'ts in page creation. I think what can be frustrating for me though is making edits to pages and for example wanting to add reception for this one and having it edited in/out (which then admittedly does make me a little discouraged to add more reception about everyone) - though, to put it one way, I may not be "entirely" correct - but I guess that is part of the learning experience. For this particular edit though I do stand by in thinking it is reliable as it is a direct quote and beneficial to talking about particular cast performances. :D Boohoolane (talk) 08:18, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do think it's still best not to, given your past involvement with the subject. It also gives way to much focus on one particular sentence in the review. I really think its a good idea to move on to a different subject, all edits being about one particular person really gives an impression of conflict of interest editing even if that is not your intent. There's a ton of tasks here, and I think trying some more would be beneficial regardless :D
About adoption, it's usually for those who have a decent amount of experience editing, if you are serious about it, check with me again after a good amount of edits (mayhaps 100 or so more), before then, feel free to ask me any questions you have about Wikipedia. Sorry about the late reply, please ping me next time so I get notified of your message. Justiyaya 00:32, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! :D
okay i will avoid that sentence moving forth and take your advice. :3
i have a busy schedule until next year and I hope to get a few pages published + edits made by then and will certainly ping you directly!!!
thank you :) and sorry for being flustered earlier <3 Boohoolane (talk) 20:38, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
