If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Soumyabrata Gupta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. — InsertCleverPhraseHere (or here) 05:45, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gaurav Sharma[edit]

Hi there! I answered your question at Wikipedia talk:Administrators and promised to follow up here.

Wikipedia currently has several articles on people named Gaurav Sharma. The first one that was written was about an engineer, and because it was first it was written at Gaurav Sharma. When somebody else wrote a new article about a different Gaurav Sharma, they moved the page about the engineer to Gaurav Sharma (engineer). Moving a page leaves a redirect, so when you tried to look for an article at that title, the server saw the redirect and automatically loaded the article on the engineer. I think that's why you thought there was no page at the target: there was, but you were automatically bounced off of it.

I replaced the redirect with a disambiguation page this morning. Now if you go to Gaurav Sharma, you'll see a list of all the people named Gaurav Sharma that we have articles about, so that a reader can choose which one they are looking for information about. That's usually how we handle situations where more than one topic has the same name, for example George Bush, West River, King Richard.

Sometimes, one of the topics is a primary topic, in which case we usually put that article at the non-disambiguated title (for example Apple), and make the disambiguation page at a title with (disambiguation) in the name (like Apple (disambiguation)). That's done when the "primary topic" is much more likely to be the article that readers are looking for than all of the other topics. I said that might be the case here, but after finding more articles on more people with the same name, now I don't think that's true.

If you want to propose that your article on the author Gaurav Sharma should be the primary topic instead, I can help you request it. It will be open to a community discussion where people can comment on whether they support your idea or not, so you would need to provide evidence to convince other editors that the author is more well known than all of the other people with the same name.

Thanks for your question and for your contribution! If you have more questions you can ask at an appropriate noticeboard, or if you're not sure you can use the {{help me}} or {{admin help}} templates to ask a question here - click on the links for instructions.
