Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Augustexeter. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Briallen Hopper, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. You have added unsourced personal information to this article. Adding personal details that have not been published in a reliable source violates Wikipedia policy on biographies of living people, but also suggests you may have a conflict of interest on this topic. If that is the case, you should not edit the article further, but propose changes on the associated talk page. Thank you. Innisfree987 (talk) 12:34, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am definitely new to this and am still learning as I go. I'm always trying to improve. However, I assure you I have no personal connection to Dr. Hopper other than having read her work / read her publications. I am not an academic or professional, I'm just a fledgling reader.
(Re: DOB / Birthplace: Tacoma Washington; all of that information was publicly visible via her public social media accounts, and hometown Tacoma was written about extensively in her Memoir, but I was not sure how to cite this. I saw on other Author's bios that their DOB details had no citation and incorrectly assumed this must be public info.)
Apologies for the inconvenience. Augustexeter (talk) 16:59, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Welcome, I understand a lot of this is not intuitive.
The other biographies of living people with unsourced details also need to have those removed. At this point I would not recommend citing information to social media posts or other primary sources. It can sometimes be acceptable for very limited use but Wikipedia bios are meant to be based predominantly on independent secondary sources, meaning things written about the subject (in newspapers, journals, etc.), not by her or by organizations connected to her (like her publisher or her current or former university). You have added a very large amount of citations which are among the latter. This starts to conflict with the Wikipedia policy of no original research, and also risks giving other editors the impression there isn’t much secondary coverage, which might make them think the entry should be deleted. Any citations you can change to independent secondary sources would help a lot.
Thank you for your interest in improving this entry. Happy editing, Innisfree987 (talk) 20:05, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
