Mandaic typefaces[edit]

Hi Artabanus V, would you be able to check and correct Mandaic (Unicode block)? I combined lists of fonts from different sources. Some of them are probably the same fonts that just got renamed. Nebulousquasar (talk) 18:25, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nebulousquasar, some names are indeed double and got renamed. I believe this is how it should look like:
  • Ardwan Mono (2010) is one of the first Mandaic typefaces. Designed for code editors and developers.
  • Mandaicana (2011).
  • Ardwan Brush (Bahram) (2015) is a cursive font based on the Manuscripts of Ganzibra Bahram.
  • Ardwan Script (2018), formerly called Ardwan Lidzbarski, is based on the Mandaic handwriting of Mark Lidzbarski. It was used in a critical edition of the Mandaean Book of John by Häberl & McGrath.
  • Ardwan Punch (2019) (Euting) is based on technical aspects of the Julius Euting's 19th-century punch letters.
  • Ardwan Deco (2020) is based on handwritten elements in the Julius Euting's 19th-century punch letters.
  • Ardwan Round (Drower) (2021) is based on the Mandaic handwriting of E. S. Drower.
  • Ardwan Reed (RRC) (2022), based on the most ancient Mandaic manuscripts in the RRC (the Rabi Rafid collection of Mandaic Manuscripts) and the most modern studies related to the Mandaic typography by Ardwan Alsabti.
  • Ardwan Sans Pro (2023) is designed to be a primary system font.
----
Notes:
  • englaiscana seems to be not mandaic.
  • Malka and Mono are the same, it was the first font Ardwan created.
  • Manuscript and Brush are the same and is from 2015.

By the way, Ganzibra Bahram from the Ardwan Brush font, is not the same Yahia Bahram. That is why I suggest deleting the link to Yahia Bahram. Artabanus V (talk) 22:18, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I have just implemented your suggestions. Nebulousquasar (talk) 00:22, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Nebulousquasar,
I hope this message finds you well. I've carefully reviewed the recent updates to the Mandaic Unicode block, in line with our previous discussions. I'm seeking clarification regarding the inclusion of Majid Fandi Al-Mubaraki's name in the Fonts section of the Mandaic Unicode block.
It has come to my attention that his font is not specifically based on the Mandaic Unicode block but rather on another block. If there is a specific rationale for including his name, I recommend ensuring it is appropriately placed, possibly in a section that accurately reflects the foundation of his font, rather than within the Mandaic Unicode block.
Additionally, it's worth considering changing the picture of the Mandaic Unicode block to a font that genuinely utilizes the Mandaic Unicode.
Wishing you all the best for the year 2024! Artabanus V (talk) 20:12, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
