I uploaded an image of Ari Meyers within the the accordance established by Wikipedia (source and licence) and someone put it up for deletion because "it is unencyclopedic". The image is of good taste and just because it is a wallpaper image I don't think it should be deleted. Please view and if you can, express your opinion. Hereford Troper

Hi, I see that you have done some fine work on some early music manuscripts. I have an interest in illuminated manuscrits and while looking around for info on Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, I came across the Hereford Troper (aka as the Cotton Troper) (British Library, Cotton Caligula A XIV). Here is the British Library catalog page (in Latin). here, here, here, and here are some images. (Click on the image on each page to get a larger copy. Are you familiar with this manuscript? How significant is it for music history? Is the musical notation 11th century addition, or is it a later addition? At some point I will be writing an article on this manuscript, based on its illumination, but I fear that I will be hopeless to discus from musicologist's point of view. Thanks for the note about the Hereford/Cotton Troper. That's marvelous! I didn't know about that manuscript until now, but I'd be happy to add to any article you start. There's a bit about it in the New Grove, and I can probably write some about the specific type of music notation it employs. It's dated from right around the time of the conquest (third quarter 11th century), and was probably copied at Winchester or Worcester.

Related question(s) -- do you know where we can get usable images, or if the images at the British Library can be used by Wikipedia? I need some for the Old Hall MS as well as for the (as yet unwritten) Winchester Troper. Best wishes, Antandrus (talk) 17:43, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

On your related question first. The BL. like, all large instituitions. will tell you that their images are copyrighted. However under US law, mechanical reproductions of two dimensional works of art in the Public Domain are also in the public domain (see Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.). I have used images off the British Library site on Wikipedia. I am always carefull to crop the image so that there is no three dimensional aspect and scrub and or crop off the annoying red British Library logo that is often in the lower right corner. A nice image of the Old Hall manuscript is here. It even lacks the annoying logo!

As to the Cotton Troper, I will move its article to the top of my list and let you know when I get something up, probably not till later in the week though Dsmdgold 18:13, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

3RR violation at John Kerry

Gamaliel violated the 3RR rule at John Kerry today. Here are the diffs:

Unilateral Redirect

Our "friend" Voice of All has unilaterally put a redirect on List of sexual slurs to make it redirect to Sexual slang. This was done without any discussion or consensus. Regarding Vandalism, Range IP blocking

Hi Antandrus, I was recently range IP blocked by Curps, you can read my post to the WikiEN-I mailing list with the link below. Anyway, to summarize what I wrote in that post: I recognize that the N.C. Vandal is a severe problem, as is any persistent attempt to destroy or mangle Wikipedia content.

I just moved to N.C. and signed up with NetZero, hoping to contribute to some articles and perhaps start some of my own, but I quickly found out that I had been range IP blocked in an attempt to stop the N.C. Vandal. That's all well and good and I respect the methods used to stop/hinder this person, but I was logged in at the time and my account has never been blocked or banned or accused of vandalism.

So why am I telling you this? Couple reasons. First, you're easy to get a hold of and approachable. Second, I thought I saw something in the past when you range IP banned the N.C. Vandal and in the "Reason" section you said that if anyone innocent wanted to contribute when they were logged in, to tell you. I don't know how that would have worked because anyone innocent would not be able to post anywhere to contact you, not even in user talk pages.

In any case, I see this problem coming up in the future. At the moment the N.C. Vandal is range IP blocked and I am not, but I can't count on always being this lucky. So, I was wondering if there was some way perhaps within the banning software, perhaps on a personal email level outside of automated software, for you to unblock me if I am logged in and range IP blocked.

Hey, I'm a pretty new editor here, and I've noticed that you've done a lot of good edits on early music stuff. I'm wondering if you could do me a big favor and check out an article I just wrote Venus and Adonis (opera) and give me any comments you might have on how to improve it, and also to double check me with new grove to make sure I haven't accidentally gone from sourcing to plagiarising. It's difficult, since basically the only reliable sources I have available right now are recordings, new grove, and Grout (which I find problematic). Thanks for any help. Grove Online vs. Grove 2nd ed.

What are your feelings on a consistent format for Grove 2nd ed.? I think it might make sense to always reference the online version or the print version. Since the online edition is more up-to-date ([7][8]), although comparatively only a few articles have changed, maybe we should use that one. Ah, I hadn't seen that page! Since they clearly indicate how to cite sources, I agree that we should simply cite each individually, although it seems a little overkill in places. I have updated Template:NewGrove2001 and made Template:GroveOnline - see if you like them, and maybe we can start converting Grove references across Wikipedia to the templates. -Sesquialtera II 20:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Could I borrow your eye?

User:Pa-merynaten has contributed an odd mix of contributions. Some are outright vandalism of text, others are unusable image uploads that I've already removed from articles, others are perfectly legit edits. Perhaps more than one person is using the account. On September 30, 2005, The Clayton State Independent TM came into being as the lone alternative news and information voice for students, alumni, faculty, and the communities served by Clayton State University located in Morrow, Georgia.

During the nearly forty year history of the university, only one student newspaper has existed. Due to recent court rulings, and due to influence of others, our university directed student paper, has had almost no change in its format and presentation of news of importance to students and their parents.

The Independent sm made its first news post on September 30, 2005, with the announcement of a yearly, local, cultural event. The Independent sm first provided a link to its web site on Wikipedia, on November 11, 2005.

Recently, The Independent sm has been under attack by persons who do not wish to have made available to the public, news, facts, information, and events that would not be otherwise known to the university student body, parents, and communities affected by Clayton State. The Independent's sm commentary is frank, biting, and vital, at our campus, where historically, there has only been one side of the news presented.

One objector to The Independent sm, appears to be a member of the university community, which is to be expected in any pluralistic community; the other, a person(s) not affiliated with the university community, rather, a seller of used computers, whose selling techniques and grossly inflated prices, were revealed in several Internet postings made by The Independent sm. That person, is known to law enforcement agencies, has been served with several cease and desist orders, and their Internet Service Provider notified.

The Independent sm desired to contact Wikipedia earlier today regarding continuous removal of our link on the Wikipedia site, however, breaking news and educational obligations, prevented my earlier contact Wikipedia. Tonight, I completed a scholarship packet for myself, for Medical School, due tomorrow afternoon in Chicago. It bears the recommendations of MD’s and PhD’s all whom know me intimately. Writing this letter prevented me from taking my scholarship application to the airport for overnight delivery. Accordingly, I will take the packet personally to Chicago, in the Morning.

Accordingly, The Independent sm asks Wikipedia to consider the following:

When The Independent sm first posted its link of Wikipedia, there were several untrue claims about the university on the Wikipedia / CSU page, among them our university has "five lakes," instead, it has a lake and four small ponds, and campus population statistics were grossly incorrect for diversity and population.

The Clayton State Office of Image boasts CSU as being the third university in the nation to mandate laptop ownership for all students. In a recent article, The Independent sm revealed the facts behind mandated laptop ownership, under the guise of "access to" or "shared use of a laptop."

The Independent sm illuminated deceptive practices used by Clayton State University, Dell, and Gateway Computers, to sell students and their unsuspecting parents laptops costing $1000 to $1500, when a computer costing only $50, would work just as well.

In recent articles, racial discrimination by Blacks against Asians, Caucasians, Latinos, Asian-Indians, Middle Easterners and Native Americans, have been presented to the university body. The Independent sm was able to present these articles, due to my election to the University Student Government Association, as the Senior University Senator.

During my tenure, I learned a Gay student was severely beaten by three men– Under the direction of a SGA Officer - And this week, because of The Independent’s sm efforts, the university has witnessed the resignation of the SGA President, a thirty year old man, following The Independent sm running an article on his assaulting a female on campus - As stated by three university police officers.

At Clayton State, there is a history of deception utilized by university administration to promote the hidden curriculums of the University.

Clayton State University is located in Clayton County, Georgia, where the average combined SAT score is 860. The Independent sm firmly believes that to raise SAT scores, requires The Independent’s sm, independent voice, to increase awareness of the low scores and serve as the impetus for improving the quality of primary, secondary, and higher education, making all known information available, to persons seeking complete information about the Clayton State campus.

I have matriculated at CSU three times and am a fourth-generation Atlantan. I have also served as Director of Student Life and Campus Security for a private university concern, and as a Campus Facilities Management Assistant, at a private university.

Hi, thanks for the welcome back. I'm not sure that graduate work really is fun, although it's certainly something I choose to do. Sometimes I think it's a little bit like what Mark Twain (I think) said about a classic — that it's a book everyone wants to have read but nobody wants to read. He denied all claims, but his picture looks just like him says a lot of our research, thus we looked ourselves. We added important information that you did not have here and you removed it? What? An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
