I Suppose. I haven't the slightest idea how to cite a census, though. Speaking of the census, there's weird stuff in there. As of the 1901 census, the D'Oyly Carte household had an 18 year old footman named Arthur Sullivan. While I've still got this subscription, if you can think of other things to look up, let me know.--Anivron 20:37, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure how to cite it, but I notice that in entries about US cities, people say something like "According to the United States Census Bureau" or "According to the 2000 census,". Hope that helps. Maybe the Wikipedia census entry will help? --Ssilvers 22:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

It's a different kind of usage of the census data, though. I personallyf feel in this case it'd be particularly awkward to say, "According to the 1851 United Kingdom Census, François Cellier was the son of.." --Anivron 23:00, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Here is how a "census" article cited the 1901 census: British census for 1901. Can you just add it under "External links"? --Ssilvers 00:01, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid not... it's a paid database of census images (Ancestry.com). If you need to do research of your own for anything, I'll be happy to email you individual pages.--Anivron 01:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Actor Pictures

Am uploading 'em slowly - Isabel Jay, Francois Cellier, and Rosina Brandram are up. Several additional pictures lack articles, so can't do much there. Wasn't sure where to place Henry Lytton's picture, though. Vanished user 15:25, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Added Robert Evett, Henry Lytton, and Louie Pounds. Have three more, as you know, who don't yet have articles - if you think they're likely to, I could upload them and put them in the talk pages, though note Richard Barker talks about the wrong Richard Barker. Well, I had to do some faking to fix some scanner problems, but I bet I can get a cleaner one than both versions if I scan again. Let me know what you think of the more recent scans I did on my image spree a few hours ago, versus the Gilbert, Sullivan, and D'Oyly Carte images which were on a different scanner. --Anivron 05:52, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't know anything about photos, so I really can't judge on any basis other than whether I think it is easier to distinguish features. All the photos look good to me, but some look crisper, which I think is better. Sorry I can't be of more help than that! --Ssilvers 06:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

George Grossmith, Jr.

I put up a page for the son (1874 to 1935). Would you give it a once over to add wikification and correct any typos and other errors you see? I'm somehow missing the stuff that is obliquely referred to in some of the materials about his influence on "cabaret" and "revue". If you can add anything on that, it would be great. Bad news/good news

Well, the bad news is really bad: Marc Shepherd is leaving Wikipedia. He is definitely the most active and extremely knowledgeable person on the project. I hope the rest of us can nevertheless make good progress without him. If you know anyone energetic who can help us, please invite them! It's very disappointing to hear that Marc is leaving (although I must admit I was probably more disappointed when he discontinued updates on his discography site).

As for the curtain-raisers, I'll do what I can. They (especially Cups and Saucers and Captain Billy) were my big side interests in the realm of Victorian musical theatre until I discovered Edward German, although I don't know as much about them since they didn't have as wide of an appeal to the general public. --Anivron 03:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I added more new articles on the curtain raisers today, but did not get to Captain Billy. If you have time, go ahead and put up a starter article on Capt. Billy like the ones I have already done. The Grand Duke

My pleasure - it's always been one of my favorite G&S-related images. Probably my favorite of the operettas, too, honestly - there's so much wonderful music in it that gets constantly ignored.

Incidentally, the same site has a lot of good actor/performance images for most of the Savoy Operas, and given their age they should be public domain material; I got the Utopia Limited illustrations from there not too long ago, actually. --AlbertHerring 07:12, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Texas in the South

Hi, I was just wondering what your opinion on Texas being part of the South is. There has been some debate about this; 86% of Texans consider themselves Southerners, and Texas was part of the Confederacy, but many non-Texans group Texas with the Southwest. I'll try. I'm trying to finish reading A Musical Peacemaker right now so I can go to a much higher level of detail on German, such as his personality and contemporary appreciations and criticisms of his work. If anything shows up on Courtneidge and Thompson, which it inevitably will knowing the author's style so far, I'll be sure and get right to it then. (Interestingly, I suddenly recall that I had them originally red-linked when I started the Tom Jones article.
